Nothing to say but: MONSTER NO.8 SERIES KILLS. AND COMPATIBLE HUMAN ARC IS GOING TO BE THE END OF ME.

I just have to mark it read today assuming that the latest chapters from biweekly updates that are not yet in tankobon format are all going to be contents of this volume, and maybe even with one or two more chapters to spare for the next one, I think! I just can't keep calm and not type these feelings today. IHARU AND ICHIKAWA'S FRIENDSHIP!! ICHIKAWA'S LOYALTY TO KAFKA, MAN!! HE'S SERIOUS! AND I'M CRYING I SWEAR. I JUST LOVE THIS!! I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!

PT Cativante e divertido. Personagens bem desenvolvidos, antagonistas marcantes e uma trama sólida. As batalhas são intensas e memoráveis. Um manga fantástico no geral.

EN Engaging and enjoyable. Well-developed characters, compelling antagonists, and a solid plot. The battles are intense and memorable. An overall fantastic manga.

Still fun, still action packed, but losing a little of the momentum from the previous volume. Familiar faces from earlier days reappear, and the twists and turns keep the plot engaging. Whilst it takes a backseat when it comes to action, the character moments do their absolute best to make up for the lack of fighting.

apparently i’d already read this one, just didn’t notice with how fast the chapters flew by. still so good. i keep telling myself to slow down, but the plot and action won’t let me. and finally, we’re starting to get some world-building.

This was a hugely emotional volume with many moments being critical (and surprising!) to move this story forward. As a result, I desperately agree with what Kafka said in the beginning: It is too much! From the jaw-dropping beginning to the heartbreak of the middle, and the shock but determination of the end, all of it left me on a whiplash-inducing roller coaster!

Just when I think I MIGHT know where this series is going, the creator brings back old faces (which YESSSSS!!) and drops these bombs of new information that I always have me reading these volumes wayyyyy too fast. This volume was definitely no exception! While there wasn't quite as much fighting compared to prior volumes, you really get a strong feel that the stakes are unbearably high with the entire NATION of Japan on the line. Obviously fighting kaiju is life-threatening to ANY person, but because of the events in the beginning, things have gotten extremely personal for everyone, making this also personal stakes at risk too.

I still have a love/hate for Captain Narumi. I really like him as a character, but man he irks me so strongly when he talks to Kafka. I really loathe how quick he is to USE him not as an individual, but as a kaiju. He even tells Kafka that should he turn FULLY kaiju with no longer being able to turn fully human, he'll be done with him and take him out. Just UGH!

This was another fantastic volume though! VERY eager to read the next volume and see what happens next!

Big fight, not as many fun moments/plot development until the end. Felt like a bridge book

SPOILERS REGARDING PREVIOUS BOOKS

The director is dead, by the hand of the Kaiju n. 9. It’s clear he’s not your everyday Kaiju, from the number he was set upon, and his absorbing properties. After almost being killed by Kafka and Naru, he tries to kill other people and gets to escape. The Defense Force knows his intentions now: to make this a Kaiju world.

Shinomiya suffers for not being strong enough to protect her father. Narumi promises to make her as powerful as him.

Kafka manages to find his foot after his fight with the director, but a bigger problem rises. What will be the line the Defense Force will not cross, by having a human Kaiju in their team?

Hoshina has a talk with the imprisoned Kaiju n. 10. He’s not just a Kaiju, but something potentially worst.

Reno is selected as the best candidate for the most powerful Kaiju weapon they have in the moment.

We start in a tense battle, and end in a tense note for almost everyone. I’m eating this up LOL

I love all the main characters. Such a great manga series that deserves all the hype. This volume was particularly emotional with the stakes raised. Kikoru Shinomiya's expressions and emotions were really focused upon in certain scenes. (I loved learning more about her back story). Gen Narumi, Kaftka Hibino, Soshiro Hoshina, and Leno Ichikawa had cool action-packed scenes that showed more about who they are. The writing, illustrations, lore, and world-building is done so well. Naoya Matsumoto's manga Kaiju No. 8 is something I recommend to readers looking for their next action-packed manga with detailed art, unique character designs, and a dash of comedy.

The volume picks up in the middle of the intense battle and builds up the tension and teasing readers of the formidable threat in the latest kaiju. Wrapping up the story arc with an emotional punch that lacked power, especially when little time was given to allow readers to properly connect with some of the characters in question, the volume then teases the following volume by introducing new characters, a new kaiju weapon, and the identified hero that will have to be tested.

First half is insane fucking fight of epic proportion. The second half is a decent build-up. Overall, some good stuff as always.

I don't even have the right words to say, but I am a bit emotional for this volume. I am grieving but I am also comforted and hopeful that the torch is being passed on to the people and the next generation who are ready to carry it, even if it's abrupt. Hang in there, Director General, your passing will not be in vain.

Wooooo, ok, it really goes down in this one. This is one of the more complete volumes of this series so far and now one of my favorites. I'll avoid spoilers and say the following - we see a shift in the power on both sides, characters we haven't seen in a while come back, the stakes jump up dramatically and the first real heartbreak of the series is here.

This was fun for a lot of reasons and I cannot wait to see where it goes next. There was less broad humor in this one, but still moments of levity because it didn't forget where it came from. I do think the series is growing and evolving though (pun intended) in the best way. We're getting more plot, character growth and more details about the kaiju and the backstory of the defense force. 10/10 installment in an already strong story.

"I'm sure daddy is still trapped inside of that thing. I will mourn him when the defense force neutralizes that creature once and for all."

description

This volume keeps the energy high from start to finish, balancing high-impact action with moments that hit you right in the gut. The fights are brutal and dynamic, but it’s the emotional weight behind them that makes them stick. There’s a real sense of urgency in every confrontation, and the tension lingers even in the quieter scenes. You can feel that the story is shifting toward bigger, more dangerous territory, and it’s impossible not to get swept along for the ride.

The character work really shines here. Some familiar faces are pushed to grow in ways that feel both natural and hard-earned, with challenges that go beyond just landing the next big hit. The bonds between the cast feel more lived-in, with sharp banter, small moments of vulnerability, and flashes of grit that make you root for them even harder. It’s a reminder that this series isn’t just about the spectacle—it’s about the people caught in the middle of it.

By the final chapters, the momentum is undeniable. The blend of fast-paced combat, evolving characters, and hints at bigger revelations make this one of the more gripping entries so far. It left me fired up, a little breathless, and more than ready to see what comes next.

I can't tell if things are progressing too quickly or if I'm simply reading too fast.. (it's me, hi. I'm the problem, it's me). It's probably also a combination of the short chapters, but I'm not really complaining. This is an awesome manga.

I can already tell we'll be in for a lot of pain and emotional damage in the future..

I hate to think about how Reno is just a kid and feels like he owes people therefore he’s willing to risk his life and even die young for that feeling.

I like this series so much. There have been a lot of ups and downs, and I love to read the journey of Kaiju No. 8. I hope they continue to give focus to the side characters as well.

In volume no. 7 we are introduced to the growing threat of Honju, and learn more about the Kaiju weapons - Kaijus can be turned into powerful weapons that humans can wear. At the end of the volume it is still unclear whether Ichihara(sp?) will be able to use the Kaiju No. 6’s weapon without it destroying him first. I’m rooting for this crazy kid. Honestly the whole storyline of a task force up against literal monsters is so inspiring, and the art is super cool as well. I can’t wait to keep reading and I’ll be so sad when the story ends.

The fallout of last volume's fight hits the cast hard, but they barely have time to cope as a new threat looms over the horizon. Members of the original group who have disappeared for the last few volumes get to poke their noses in during this lull.

It got a just a tad dull as any angst or grief characters were due to feel immediately and uniformly turned into determination to level up and fight harder. Some of these Shonen Jump series just devolve into not-stop fighting with super competent and determined fighters, and I worry things could be heading in that direction now. The original charm of this series was how much of a screw-up the protagonist was.

Things are really starting to get serious. Lots of information being revealed and yet I still don’t comprehend entirely what’s going on in this world. Which is a good thing, we keep learning just enough.

Love the characters overall, could do with a little less of the ‘I suck, I’m a failure crybaby’ type moments but I understand thats part of the course with shonen titles.

Starting to get a bit of a MHA vibe with everyone pushing beyond their limits.

After the death of the Director General, the Japan Defense Force focuses in on taking down Kaiju No. 9 and figuring out what the kaiju wants and stopping it.

I enjoyed this volume so much more!
I liked the character work and expansion on the world.
I still want Hibino to grow a little bit more but I know it takes a while for main characters.
