The past doesn’t always stay buried. Sometimes, it comes calling—and it’s not ready to let go.

Love can be complicated but throw in working together, an age gap and someone out to destroy your relationship it just gets even more complicated. I loved that there were mysteries on mysteries in this story and how everything came together at the end. It’s such a great read.

Working together ,you can be best of friends. Throw into the mix that you’re both on the same page as wanting to be together and it’s …well Just Complicated at best and a whole lot more. There’s so much more though to this book that I adore. Evie Sterling is such a delight ,her books are top notch and make you feel thrown for a loop but feeds our needs ,even the ones we don’t think we got! Cassie and Lincoln are best of friends now ,they’ve been through a lot ,devout is he to protect her to the bitter end if needs be . How awesomely caring is he? Lincoln Stucco omg . He’d be the guy for me. So picture this ,you get a phone call and it’s shaken your inner coil. Things surface about your dad, secrets he took to his grave . But you go to face a meeting ,as puzzle pieces fall, into place the danger amps up and so does the race. There’s one man who she keeps at arms length who insists on protecting her at all cost when all that fears the most comes to call . With wit , and honour and grit and if you let him be your protector and more. …. This book is pure unadulterated heart on a stick . They just keep on poking at it. While working together and staying alive ,just one complicated day at a time. Suspense is best served chilled or is it on heat , it’s a Pinecrest thing. Do they compete bumping heads or do they put their heads as well as their hearts together ? Divine storytelling ,this instalment it crackles with angst. Perfectly mysterious and characters divine . I had a splendid time reading this awesome book . Well it is Evie Sterling so it wasn’t so complicated a task or an ask to comply with my heart-rate that says oh my with a satisfactory sigh and conclusion to this case. But what of them you ask? Just another case? Ahem… Let’s just say it’s had its developments and we’ll take it from there. It’s Cassie and her Link so there you are, makes you think. Just read the book for yourself to find out the answer to the question, just a suggestion of course .Lots of great writing and situations and these two characters are so well written,I’m smitten with them so . Evie Sterling ,way to go! And what the heck at the end ?….Very well written ,beautifully executed story.

Thank you @eviesterling.sweetromance for an early copy of Just Complicated. I really enjoyed the mystery in this book. It’s was interesting how the threats were against two different sides- an investigation agency and a doctor. I thought I knew at first who the stalker was, but then I was surprised when everything was figured out. I didn’t read the first two books, which I wish I would have done my research and knew they were out there. I’m interested in picking those up to get more of the back story. The relationship between Cassie and Link had me all sorts of frustrated. I mean… get on that date already. And kiss her man! lol! I felt terrible about the secret that was hidden from Cassie, but Link stepped up and stayed at her side while she figured out what she needed/wanted to do. From the ending of this book, it seems like another one is in the works which is fantastic. Book overview

This is book 3 in the investigating love series by @
These need to be read in order for full understanding of what's going on.

I have read so many of Evie's stories and I've enjoyed them all a lot. So I am so grateful she allowed me to ARC another one of her books!

Cassie
Former blacklisted actress finally got the closure she needed after the last book for her acting career is now helping her father's former PI partner run her father's business. But when one chapter in her life closes, a new one was presented to her. She handles everything in strid never letting things tear her down. Even when she learns everything she thought she knew was a lie.

Lincoln
Was partners with her father and was taken in by him. He is older than Cassie and cares a lot for her but has been holding himself back for her stake. He is trying to be a new man. Writing a book that accurately explains his experiences instead of turning it into an exaggerated comedy. He's become a lot more mature since the last 2 books and supports Cassie with whatever she wants to do. He's really grown on me since book one.

Cassie's feelings about acting are how I feel about soccer. Some days it's not too bad and others make me miss it like crazy and regret my choice. She is such an intelligent women who won't let anyone break her.

Quinn and Tommy have a much more significant role in this book and it really made me happy seeing what Quinn was capable of.

I wasn't sure what the current problem would be in this story given the case they solved in the last book. But holy cow was I hooked when it started. At this rate they are all going to become FBI agents haha.

I'm so ready for the next book. I am absolutely hooked by their story and can't wait to see what happens next with the town and the people we met in this story.

It is still a slow burn of all slow burns even after it being book 3 haha we are at least to the making progress towards there being a relationship.

I'm so ready for the next book and can't wait to see what the next case they are going to have to take on.

If you have been following me or reading my reviews, you know I am a total fan of Evie and all her stories! I know she is going to deliver a story that includes complex characters, low angst, and tension that you can’t wait to come to a head. In this series case, we have been kept on the edge of our seats with our MCs relationship and will they or won’t they. Ok actually, we know they want to, but refuse to get out of their own ways.

Cassie is now fully invested in her father’s company, taking over his role within the business. She struggled for a bit coming back, after his passing, but knows she’s where she belongs now. Having a natural talent for investigation work, she has fully embraced her new life. Well, almost fully embraced. She still struggles with her feelings towards her partner, her father’s best friend. Not wanting to mix business and pleasure she definitely has drawn a line she won’t cross. But as her feelings become stronger and deeper, she isn’t sure how much longer she can fight them off.

Lincoln has been an amazing character throughout the whole series. Each book dives deeper into his past and pulls back the curtains to his inner demons. I have loved watching him open up to Cassie and learning to trust her just as he did her dad. Also suppressing the feelings he’s had for Cassie, brings out a protective side of him that he knows isn’t good for business. The more time they spend together, the more complicated his feelings become.

I have adored both of these characters since book one. Main and side alike! Reading about these two and hoping they finally give in, had me bouncing my foot while reading the book. I know Evie is one for happy endings and she will deliver, but as a series, you don’t know when.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

“I never knew that your first case with my dad was over a stolen car.”
“But it wasn’t just about the stolen car,” I interject.
Her eyes twinkle, and I know she’s got more coming. The question is, is it good or bad, and can my ego take it?

You know those books where you’re so afraid your eyes will accidentally move ahead and spoil the plot for you? This was one such story for me. WOW. I had almost fallen into a reading slump when I got this one, and for a person who loves reading mysteries and romances, this was the perfect book for me.

Three friends who work together and manage a private investigation firm, find themselves being targeted as their secrets come to light. In an attempt to figure out who could possibly be behind these acts, while also working on the cases their clients are troubled by, maybe, just maybe, things are not as simple as they expected them to be.

While the plot is centered mostly around the mystery, there is also a blooming romance on the side, adding a touch of softness and butterflies every now and then. I found it to be the perfect blend of small-town suspense and love, written at the perfect pace. There were also a few scenes which made me a little emotional, so all-in-all, this was a relaxing read, perfect to get me back to my books with energy! This is the third book in a series of interconnected standalones, and this was my first read by this author. Needless to say, I’m adding them to my TBR, as the perfect cozy little reads <3

I'd like to thank the author Evie Sterling, and Hayling Bookstorm Ltd. for the review copy. All opinions are my own.

I absolutely adored this novel! I went into it expecting a good romance, but what I got was so much more. The detective plotlines, the intricate family drama, and the deep emotional layers completely stole the show for me. It wasn't just about love—it was about the weight of secrets, the complexities of relationships, and the way past traumas shape who we become.

One of my favorite things was how the cases were set up. They weren’t just random mysteries thrown in for the sake of it; they were carefully woven into the story, making every revelation hit harder. Each conclusion felt satisfying, and I genuinely found myself invested in every twist and turn. I’d be in the middle of my day, doing the most mundane tasks, and suddenly wonder—what’s going to happen next? That’s when you know a book has truly gripped you.

The characters felt so real, and I think that’s what made this story unforgettable. Their emotions, choices, and struggles felt natural, like I was watching real people navigate their lives. Some moments made my heart ache, others made me smile like an idiot, and a few even made me pause to take everything in. That level of emotional impact? It’s rare, and it’s exactly why this book deserves all the love.

While I wouldn’t call it perfect, it came so close! There were tiny moments where I wanted more depth in certain areas, but honestly, that’s just me being greedy. Overall, this was an incredible read, and I’m so glad I picked it up. Solid 4/5 for me, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves romance with a thrilling, emotional edge.

Have you read this one? Let’s talk about it!

Just Complicated is the third book in the Investigating Love series. While you may be able to enjoy it okay as a standalone, this is definitely a series that is best enjoyed in order as the relationship between Link and Cassie has been slowly progressing since book one and while the primary mystery is solved in the end, there are definitely threads that carry through from book to book.

Link and Cassie are back in this book with all new cases to solve... and this time it seems like someone is after the team, looking to expose their secrets and tear them apart. This was such a fun mystery that kept me intrigued from start to finish. More than anything though, I loved seeing the progression of Link and Cassie's relationship since book one. This is definitely a super slow burn and we still haven't even gotten to their happily ever after... but I think having that longer history with them has made me appreciate their story and those moments of seeing the transition from friends to more all that much more. The author also once again set it up perfectly for the next book in the series, leaving me excited to see what's going to happen next. That said, if you are someone who doesn't like cliffhangers and wants to see the happily ever after right away, you might want to wait a little longer and enjoy this series once it's completed.

Just Complicated is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.

💕 This book? Just Complicated—but in the best way possible! From the very first page, I was pulled into a whirlwind of mystery, danger, and slow-burn romance that had me hooked. The tension? Immaculate. The secrets? Juicy. And Lincoln? Hellooo, new book boyfriend!

💕 Cassie’s journey kept me glued to the pages, and the way the past and present intertwined was so well done. Every twist had me curious, though I wouldn’t call this a high-stakes, nail-biting thriller—it’s more of a lightweight, easy-to-dive-into mystery with just the right amount of suspense. A fun, majedaar read that keeps you engaged without being too intense.

💕 And the chemistry between Cassie and Lincoln? Absolutely perfect. Their push and pull, the protective-yet-respectful dynamic, and those little moments that made my heart race? Obsessed!

💕 What made this book even better was Evie Sterling’s writing. Her storytelling is fast-paced yet immersive, giving just the right amount of detail to keep you engaged without slowing down the flow. She builds tension so well—whether it’s between the characters or within the mystery itself.

💕 This was my first book by Evie Sterling, but it definitely won’t be my last. If you love small-town intrigue, thrilling but not too heavy suspense, and a romance that makes you feel everything, Just Complicated is a must-read! ✨

Just Complicated by Evie Sterling is the third book in the Investigating Love Series. I'd say this one might be better read as the series to get all the background on the characters and a few things mentioned within the story but could still be read as an enjoyable story on its own just might wonder a little on the background that's brought up. The relationship aspect between Cassie and Lincoln doesn't really pick up until this book, so for the romance perspective, this could be a separate story. I enjoyed this read and liked the mystery and suspense throughout the book while navigating through Cassie and Lincoln's feelings for each other. I thought it was a really good blend of romance and suspense. I kept trying to figure out who was behind everything in their cases, so the story definitely kept me entertained. This one was easy to read as well as engaging throughout the story, with a fun plot. You get to follow the main characters Cassie and Link along on their cases as Personal Investors in a smalltown setting. This one had all the fun tropes, being a second chance, forbidden love, workplace romance, with mystery, suspense, and a protective MMC all taking place in a small town. I enjoy Evie Sterlings' writing style and the way she led me through her story and kept me intrigued throughout it with her personable characters and fun plotline.

Thank you @haylingbookstormltd and @eviesterling.sweetromance for the chance to review Just Complicated!

This is my second book by Evie Sterling, and just like Fake Dating and Matchmaking 101, it did not disappoint. The story was so easy to read and kept me engaged from start to finish. I loved the way the characters were written, and the chemistry they shared felt so natural. Even though I hadn’t read the first two books in the series, a quick preview gave me just the right context to dive right in.

One of the things I really enjoyed was how the book had its own unique mystery. It was fun solving the case alongside the main PI team. True to Evie’s style, the author chose such an intriguing profession for the main characters, which made the story feel fresh and exciting.

The romance between Lincoln and Cassie was handled beautifully, with just the right amount of tension and longing. I love when a book can balance both romance and mystery without letting one overshadow the other.

Overall, Just Complicated was a perfect blend of cozy mystery and romance. I can’t wait to see what happens next in the series!

Just Complicated is a romance thriller in the Investigating Love series. When another case walks through the doors of looking for help it brings trouble with it. Cassie and Link are going to be teaming up again on this case, hoping to get to the bottom of it before it’s too late. On top of the case, Cassie finds out her father had been keeping something from me and now she needs to figure out how to deal with it. Will Cassie be able to catch the stalker and come to terms with the secrets that have been revealed or will she need Link’s help to move past it all?

I haven’t read any of the other books in this series and apart from a little background info I didn’t know I had no problems enjoying this book. Cassie and Link were great lead characters and I enjoyed seeing both their personal and professional relationship with each other. The investigation was a nice angle to this book and I like how everything was woven together. The beginning was a little slow for me and the age gap wasn’t my favorite trope, but I still really enjoyed this book. I’ll have to go back and check out the rest of this series!

Thank you to the author @eviesterling.sweetromance and @haylingbookstormltd for the #gifted e-book.

Just Complicated is the third book in Evie Sterling’s Investigating Love series, and it continues to deliver the perfect blend of romance and suspense. This series has been such a fun and entertaining ride, and this installment is no exception!

Set in a charming small town, the story brings together all the elements that make for a compelling romantic suspense: workplace tension, second chances, and a protective partner willing to do whatever it takes. The chemistry between the main characters keeps building, and the secrets and lies woven throughout the plot add just the right amount of intrigue.

Sterling has a knack for writing engaging, easy-to-read stories that keep you hooked from start to finish. If you love romantic suspense with well-developed characters and a touch of mystery, Just Complicated is definitely worth picking up!

What a ride. Seeing Evie take on the mystery genre with this series has been interesting. It feels like as each book in the series goes on, she matches the tone I'd expect from a mystery with some romance elements more and more. I would still never complain if there was a heaping helping more of Evie's signature romantic sweetness in the final book though. What can I say, it's what I love her for.

I will admit, I had a bit of a hard time staying engaged with this one. Something about it just didn't let me get sucked in. Perhaps it was that the where the chapters started and ended felt really arbitrary. Being in a liminal reading space like that can be a challenge for me especially.

I loved the chance to learn more about Quinn and Tommy. They are deeply fascinating characters that absolutely deserved a bit more of the spotlight. I hope to see them fully blossom in the final book where we better get a happy ending for them all.

I received this book as part of Evie's Hayling Bookstorm street team. My review is honest and voluntary.

My girl Evie knows how to write!! Oh my gosh!! I honestly can’t rave about this book enough!

Just complicated is the third instalment in the “Investigating Love Series” !

Overall I think this book was really well written, and was immediately hooked. The start was a little slower in pace but honestly super enjoyable! I loved our main cast, and the tension between our FMC and MMC was top notch! CASSIE GO GET YOUR MAN!! 😱 I honestly felt like I knew these characters, and I was part of the team. THANK YOU for the dual POV.. They were super relatable. I was giddy in some parts, and laughing and yelling at the book as well. The workplace romance hits differently, in a good way. Specially when it’s a forbidden type of love! The lies and secrets kept me hooked the whole way through this book. And the CLIFF HANGER… girl I need book 4 NOW….

Thank you for sending this over to me! These reviews are all my own opinions and voluntary!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Just Complicated by Evie Sterling is the third book in the Investigated Love Series.

🌸Cassie and Link work together a mystery but things become more complicated when their team is target. Tension between the characters build with the complexity of the case.

🌼I really loved the characters in the book, even the side characters. They feel individual and unique on the page with clear voices.

💕While this book hints to previous issues between Cassie and Link, it did not prevent me from following the changes in their relationship. So, while reading the first two books would probably increase some the sparks between the characters, it is not necessary to enjoy or understand the development in this story.

💗I was invested in the characters and worked with the little details to try to solve the mystery. I expected a little bit more of a twist and some stronger closed-door romance. Talk about SLOW BURN.

🌸There were some moments where the pace was a little slow for me, but nothing detrimental to the story.

🌼I didn’t love this story as much of some of her others but that could be because I didn’t start building attachments with these characters two books ago (like some other readers).

💕I always recommend Evie Sterling. Some of my favorites by her are So Not my Boss Brush and So Not My Mr. Wright.

💗If you like contemporary sweet romance, then this author is a must read.

♡Lincoln & Cassie♡

Life has a way of bringing up the past in the most strangest of ways. When Cassie receives a message, she heads to a meeting and discovers some of her father's buried secrets. Now everything she's about to find out can change everything she's known about her family, including herself.

I'm obsessed with this series😍 When these two team up, it's always an amazing time! This story is my favorite of this series so far. The author created such a well developed story filled with so many emotions and mysteries. The things that Cassie found, I could've never imagined🥹

The writing, including the dialog, was insanely good. I can't express how much I recommend not only this book itself but the author in general! I'm never disappointed when I open up one of her books💞💞

Tropes:
💞Suspense/ Mystery
💞Slow burn

Just Complicated is a cozy mystery romance that’s both fun and easy to follow. Link and Cassie are private investigators who are trying to figure out who’s behind some scary threats at a medical conference. As they dig into the case, they realize there’s something bigger and more dangerous going on.

This is a very fun story with a mix of mystery and lighthearted moments. Link and Cassie’s banter is really enjoyable, and there is a budding spark of romance between them. Although this is not the first book in the series, you can definitely read it as a stand-alone, although you’ll probably want to go back and learn more about their past.

If you like a mix of mystery, romance, and fun teamwork, this book is a great pick. It’s an entertaining read with just the right amount of suspense and heart.

Thank you to Evie Sterling and HaylingBookStormLtd for giving me the chance to be an ARC reader for Just Complicated. I had read the previous book in this series, but it had been a while and I didn’t really remember the details. I was hoping for a little help in remembering, but this book jumps right into where the previous book left off. I had to constantly stop to think about what happened. If you hadn’t read the previous, you’d definitely be lost. That being said, this book is just okay. The cases they are working seem like they are going to be exciting, but they end up being so boring. The author doesn’t even tell you how it goes after telling one of their clients about what they found. I kept waiting for something bigger to happen or for a twist to show up, but it just fell flat. The ending had me on the excited, but that reveal was also lackluster.

This was my first book of the Investigating Love series and my first read by Evie Sterling. I loved this book! It was such a fun read. I was hooked from the first page! We got the drama, the romance, and some detective work which was very enjoyable to read. And don’t we all love a workplace romance. I loved Cassie and Lincoln as characters and loved to see not only their shared history, but how their relationship progressed.

I really loved the story and Cassie’s journey and thought it tied up nicely in the end. I’m looking forward to going back and reading the first two books in this series.

A thrilling rollercoaster of suspense, mystery, and romance. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down.

The plot pulls you in with so many twists and turns, leaving you wondering what will happen next.

Cassie and Lincoln’s connection is electric. I loved how they balance their friendship and undeniable chemistry. The tension between them kept me hooked.

The team dynamics was heartwarming. Lincoln’s overprotectiveness toward Quinn really stood out. I am not a fan of cliffhangers and can't wait to dive into the next book immediately, I need answers.

Just Complicated is the third part of Investigating Love Series. I read and enjoyed all the books in the series. This book works as a standalone, but I'd highly recommend reading books 1 and 2 first for the full experience.

I just love this series! Lincoln and Cassie are the best and throw in the side characters like Quinn and it's even better. Cassie and Lincoln are still doing PI work and have gotten a couple cases. One case might be a bit risky being a stalker case and not only that, but it seems like someone is out to get them all too.

Definitely some twists and turns and more of will Cassie and Lincoln get together. I really enjoy how this is a closed door romance and has mysteries that need to be solved. Also learning more about each character is the best part too.

Will Lincoln and Cassie be able to solve this case and no one get hurt? Will they reveal their feelings for each other? Read this to findcout. Oh and that cliffhanger got me excited for another book!

Firstly, thanks a lot to the HaylingStorm and the author, Ms. Evie Sterling for providing me the ARC of this book and letting me be a part of the Street Team!

It took me almost an entire month to finish this one, I think. And tbh, I still don't know how exactly I feel about this book. It was a nice enjoyable read, with a smooth pacing, and likeable characters overall. But I think it just lacked the "IT" factor for me? It was a nice read though!

If you like:
🩷Mystery + Romance
🩷Soft FMC
🩷Protective MMC
🩷Found family
🩷Slow burn
🩷Age gap
🩷No spice, pretty much clean romance (unless kissing makes a romance unclean, pretty nondescriptive though)

Then this is the book for you, and I'm sure you will enjoy it!

Just Complicated is the third book in the Investigating Love series. We get more of what we've grown to love in these stories: small town, slow burn romance and more mysteries.
I love the playful banter between Cassie and Link and how you root for them with every turn of the page. I think it's phenomenal how both the mystery and romance aspects of the story both keep you on the edge of your seat! In this book we get to learn a bit more deeper details into the backstories of our beloved characters and their lives.
If you want a series that's a quick read, but packs a punch...sweet and closed door, but still gives you all the feels...then you should give this one a definite read! I cannot wait to see how this slow burn ends!!

This is the third book in the Investigating Love series. Both Cassie and Lincoln work closely together as private investigators. From being partners at work, they are now friends but mutually, they want more.

I loved that in this book we get to delve deeper into both their pasts. While their close relationship is established in the earlier books, here it is further deepened as they share big secrets and support each other through tough moments.

Despite multiple plots at the same time, the plots are weaved together in a coherent manner and it keeps the pace exciting. I can’t wait for them to move beyond “just complicated” to their happy ever after.

Cassie, Linc and Quinn are pulled into another intense case as they look for a stalker, while dealing with someone trying to turn them against each other. But they've got each other's backs, and Cassie and Linc accept their attraction to each other and accept the complication of their feelings...

This was a fun mystery to read, and I enjoyed the growth of the whole team, and the growth of Cassie and Linc's relationship. I love how they're able to pass their cases on to the FBI now. lol... Some really fun scenes, and a great ready overall...

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Book 3 of Investigating Love Series, Just Complicated was my favorite so far. Cassie & Link’s slow burn love mixed with mystery keeps your attention. I enjoyed learning more about the characters & their sweet work family relationship. Both Link & Quinn being there for Cassie as she finds out secrets of her past. Link’s overprotective big brother relationship with Quinn. Throw in some mystery case & you could have a hit TV series.
