I kind of like to think of myself as a normal lady living a semi normal life. I’m not sure that’s all that accurate; I have a sweet husband and two dogs-my girls- that I think of as my children. I grew up in Sonoma County, California and I never pictured myself moving. Funny because now I live in North Idaho and I love it here, I love the summers; camping, bar-b-ques with friends, and the farmers markets. I find the winter magical and love the snow. I started writing as a hobby. I’ve been one of those people who has been obsessed with the world of the paranormal for as long as I can remember. I self published my first book in August of 2011 at my husbands’ urging.
Sophia’s story was truly meant for me at the beginning. Now I love that I chose to share these characters with everyone who’s chosen to read about them. I love these characters. They hold a special part of me and represent the strength and knowledge that comes with never giving up. of course I’m biased.
As for me personally, I’m not one who ever really shared much of my own story, however not long ago I finally shared my story with the fans who followed my Facebook page Magen McMinimy Author Page so I figure my story is out there for the world to read so I might as well share it here . . .
Like I said I grew up in California, I was born in Santa Rosa, Ca on April 19th 1983, I had a simple and pretty good childhood with a rather great family. I have wonderful parents and a pretty great sister( I didn’t always think so as I was growing up, but now I know the simple pleasures of having a sister as my best friend, she also gave me my nephew Asher who I adore). When I was nine I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, I was fortunate enough that it didn’t affect any of my major organs, but on the flip side of that it was in my eyes.
When I was around the age of twelve, I was given the diagnosis of secondary glaucoma. At thirteen I had my first in a fairly long line of surgeries to help control the pressures and remove the cataracts in my eyes.
When I turned twenty-one I took the first step of a major life change and moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. I left a lot of amazing friends and an amazing extended family. I met my now husband a few months after the move and was married to him in June of 2006. In 2008 I finished college and became a wedding planner. I love a good party and I live to decorate and make things beautiful and amazing for those around me.
In April of 2010 I woke up one morning with no vision in my right eye, I got an appointment with a specialist and found out I had blood vessels growing in the back of my eye that led to nowhere and were steadily bleeding. I underwent treatments and we got the bleeding under control and eventually stopped completely. But not before some major damage had been done. My doctor got me on the road to getting some help and I work each day with a small amount of remaining vision in my left eye.
So why do I tell you all of this? I tell you all because this is who I am, and those of you taking the time to read this have probably read at least one of my books and because of that you’ve helped to make this dream of writing and reaching out to others who love books, and vampires, and shifters and all things gorgeous and sexy . . . come true!
Life is a constant balance of what we want and what we need. It's also a lot like a Battle. A battle that we all have to fight in our own way. I chose to try and love and cherish every minute that I get to chase my crazy dreams and create a world and characters to get lost in.
This book was free on Amazon, I saw the amazing reviews, remembered a friend rave about it and I decided to read it. And that decision triggered a headache due to much eye-rolling. But, as I was taught that books are teachers and that we learn at least one precious lesson from each one, here's three things I've learned from this book:
1. omniscient is a person who (a) has dreams about future events that are confusing and not at all informative and (b) asks a lot of questions;
2. science sucks and we should just forget about it. Mystery ( to be read " ignorance") is so much better. Example:
" Why they ( i.e. the man's wings) don't rip your shirt?" "I don't know why they don't rip the shirt off my back every time. All I can say is that while they're part of me, they're the magical part of me." Izzy nodded. "Not all things have to be explained. We lose too much of the mystery in life if we try to understand and explain everything."
Daaah! I just grabbed my club and my animal skins and head for the cave! Gonna sacrifice my neighbour to the God of Thunder next! And talking of caves and primitive thinking here comes lesson no. 3.
3. if a guy drops you like a hot plate after fooling around with you for a week and tells you " you will never see me again but it was fun", what do you do when you see him again? You of course freeze at first, then you start crying and then OF COURSE run and throw yourself in his loving arms!
Great read, great lessons. I think I'm omniscient too. I have a lot of unanswered questions and sometimes my dreams become reality
Immortal Blood by Magen McMinimy is a fun read! It reminds me a bit of Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series, and I am a huge fan of her, so it's no surprise that I enjoyed this book.
Meet Izzy. She is a successful woman, providing for herself quite nicely. She owns her own home and a shiny, silver Audi (fun!). She goes on a date with Mystery Man, Zander, and it takes a turn for the worst.
Enter Bain. Bain is a Fae Warrior, and Immortal Brother, sworn to protect the human race from the Dark Fae wreaking havoc on the world.
He's arrogant, and she's... spicy!
I love this paranormal world that Magen has created! There are a lot of other supernatural creatures in this book, but she creates her own twist on an overly done genre, making it her own, and had me hooked in a few short pages. And this twist has nothing to do with sparkling vampires, making it even more likable.
I love Izzy's personality. She is feisty and outspoken. She is my kind of girl! I'm a little sad, actually, that she is a fictional character, because she and I could be great, life-long friends. She is quick witted and keeps arrogant Bain on his toes and second guessing himself. They are great compliments to each other.
Ultimately, I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars, only because there were some editing issues (but honestly, when are there not editing issues in any Indie book?). The story itself gets 10 stars... LOVED those love scenes ;-)
The twists and turns of this book, will keep you on your toes! This is one of the few books this year that is paranormal in nature, yet it isn’t about vampires or shape shifters!! It was for sure a nice change. During this book, you learn about the angels, and of course the leprechauns.
One thing that I did enjoy about this book completely was how Magen created this world that showed fairy tales to be true. There are the different types, the good and the bad, and the different “levels” of the light and darkness. While she did this, the book was not overloaded with facts that you wouldn’t deem important, it had everything you needed to know to understand completely.
She created characters that you couldn’t help but to want to know more about them. And she left enough open that you would want to read future books in the series to be able to figure out their secrets. The different powers that she had given each of the brothers, instead of just one power they all share, helps to create the individuality of them all.
And of course no book could be complete without the bad guy, and in this book, that character was written so well that even from the first minute you are introduced; you could tell they were up to no good!
This book is the first by Magen that I have read, but I can’t wait to read more into the series!
Oh jeez, what do I say about this book. It was one of those that I had to put down to make sure that I let everything soak in, but at the same time I didn't want to set it down for fear of forgetting what was happening. It's a different take on a paranormal book, one that can easily capture the reader's attention.
Bain is an immortal brother who does what he's told for his missions but doesn't listen to anyone when it comes to his personal life. He uses his good looks to bed any woman that he wants. Never does he allow them more than one night. Until he meets her...
Izzy is strong, independent, and family oriented. She takes her business very seriously but allows herself to have a little fun every once in a while. That one night of fun is what causes her to cross paths with Bain.
After an unfortunate meeting with an immortal of a different kind, Izzy is forced to have to live with Bain until she agrees to go to his home and get her life straightened out. What she isn't counting on is that with her, he's different.
The moments Bain and Izzy spend together bring them closer and closer, until someone steps in and messes it all up. Ultimately Bain is forced to choose between Izzy or someone else that is extremely dear to him. When he chooses the other, his relationship with Izzy falls apart until his sister steps in to help.
Izzy and Bain are amazing together because Izzy never allows him to use his charm against her and she gives him a run for his money when it comes to him being a smart ass. Bain gives Izzy the love that she's seen one of her sisters and her parents get. Both are the perfect match for the other in more ways than they realize at first.
Fairies with healing powers, definitely cool. Fairies with red velvet bed covers? A little creepy. A bunch of grammar/spelling mistakes in my nook formatted version. I did really like how Izzy put up a real fight when the dude tried to walk away from the relationship. Author pulls a rabbit named Darnell out of a hat and everybody lives happy ever after.
Annoying Chauvinism:
"no one ever talked to Bain like that...especially a female"
"absolutely the kind of female he enjoyed having underneath him"
"I never fit into the perfect Latino female role. I don't usually care what others think"
"Bain knew he was a chauvinist, a playboy, and rarely gave any woman more that one night of pure ecstasy". Okay, so if he knew he was a chauvinist, don't you think he'd have tried to rectify this flaw over his 400+ year existence? Talk about delayed development.
Minus 25 points for creepy overuse of the word "feisty".
Favorite Quotes:
"She carried the caution every woman should when living alone and going out with a man for the first time."
"Take your fucking hands off her and move along"
"Bain threw a decorative pillow at Uriah"
"We prefer to be compared to masculine birds such as hawks or eagles"
"Are you for real? You're a jackass."
"...one egg short of her crazy dozen"
Minus 2 points for having a main character named "Kale". Leafy greens, anyone?
Minus 2 points for putting the expression lion's den in quotations for no reason.
A perfect night on the town turns out to be her worst nightmare. A date with a handsome man is the catalyst for events that she thought only happened in fairy tales. Thrust into a world of danger, Isabelle has no idea what is in store for her as the Light and Dark Fae fight over her future.
Isabelle Moreno is a young woman working her way through life, finding little time for love and adventure. Until she agrees to a date with a mysterious stranger, only to find out the secrets this man holds are something she could have lived her entire life without knowing. The Dark Fae Luck Eater has found something enticing in Isabella’s humanity.
Bain is an arrogant playboy and an Immortal Light Fae Warrior. He and his four brothers fight for the safety of the human race while remaining something of myth. After weeks of tracking the Dark Fae Luck Eater, Bain comes across yet another victim, in Isabelle.
Bain has finally found his match in this feisty human as she fights against him and her ever growing attraction to the Immortal who is bound to protect her.
~My Review~
First of all I have never read a Fae book, but have always wanted to. I am so happy this was my first!! It left the greatest impression upon me and I am now a HUGE Fae fan.
The characters Magen McMinimy has created melts you from first sight. And yes I do mean these sexy Immortal Light Fae Warriors. *Licking lips as I write this*
Bain has been on the tail of a Dark Fae that loves to take the luck away from his victims. Bain and Kale (We will learns Kale's story in the next book) find this Dark Fae about to make his move on Isabelle Moreno. Little does Izzy know this Dark Fae wants more than just her company.
After saving Izzy from this luck eater, Bain will stop at nothing to protect Izzy at all costs.
Bain and Izzy embark upon a love story so touching, so heart felt, so sexy it gives you shivers up and down your spine. I love when I can feel a book. I was captivated and so compelled with this journey. When you can breathe words in and absorb them into your very soul, you know you have a great read on your hands and it left me personally wanting more of Magen McMinimy's books to read. Oh wait, I already started Kale's story.
I give this book 5 NarlyNut Moons! A MUST READ BOOK LOVERS!!
It is such a nice thing to see authors promoting the works of other authors. Two that I see doing it the most on Facebook are Alexia Purdy and Laura Wright. I’m not sure who it was, but one of the many authors I follow on social media alerted me to the works of Magen McMinimy – and I can’t thank them enough.
I decided to take a chance and check out the first in McMinimy’s Immortal Heart series – Immortal Blood. I was so pleasantly surprised by what I discovered within the pages that I can’t stop telling people about it days after finishing. I went into this series blind – didn’t even read the what this book is about blurb. So suffice it to say that with a title like Immortal Blood, I went into it thinking vampires – that’s not what I got.
Isabelle Moreno – a hardworking young woman surrounded by a loving family – takes a chance one night and decides to take up a handsome stranger on his offer of a date. Little did she know that that choice would take her down the proverbial rabbit hole. She is thrust into the world of the Fae where light and dark are fighting over her. She has become the unwilling charge of a playboy immortal warrior (Bain) and has to come to terms with the changes in her world and life while also adapting to emotions she never expected to surface.
Bain and his four immortal brothers (can’t wait for Kale’s story) are tasked with protecting the human race from the members of the Dark Fae. Each of these warriors has some incredible background and each one’s story is one just waiting to be told. I can promise you that I will be sticking with this series as long as McMinimy is willing to write it. My over-active brain is already trying to figure out where all she can go with the stories and it’s only the first book!
I truly enjoyed the family dynamics – be they the human Moreno family or that of the Light Fae “brothers”. All of the characters were so beautifully written and full of life that I was sad to see the story end.
McMinimy takes her readers on a journey to a whole new world where everything we supposedly know about the world is thrown into the air and re-settles as a land of magic and mystery just waiting to be explored.
I, for one, can’t wait for book 2: Immortal Craving
Wow! I have to say this was an awesome story. One of the most unique in lore I have ever read, and was a refreshing change from the commonly used creature types found in paranormal romance. Ms. McMinimy is an expert storyteller who does a wonderful job of building the romantic tension throughout the whole story, while still building an incredible plotline independent of just the romance. I especially loved the ties and relationships that each of the main characters had with their families (and each other's family), who also each were unique in personality. The descriptions of each character and their surroundings made it easy to picture everything that happened like a movie playing in my imagination. If I had to choose something to nitpick, I would say the one thing this book could have that would make it better would be better editing. There were quite a lot of grammer issues, mostly stemming from words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different definitions. However, though that was somewhat distracting, the story was incredible enough that had it been perfectly edited I would have been trying to figure out how to give it MORE than 5 stars!
I received a copy of Immortal Blood from the author in exchange for an honest review. I have to admit that by title alone and never seeing the cover or reading a blurb, I expected this to be about vampires. Although there is mention of vampires, the story is not about them.
I was just on the phone telling my Aunt about this book. I believe what I told her would make a great review. After I read her the blurb, I said "This book has it all... family bonds, adventure, Light and Dark Fae, romance, a couple of explict sex scenes, secrets, blackmail of sorts, and an ending that I rejoiced over. I don't want to spoil any of the surprise or twists within the story, but you'll love the Epilogue!"
Magen's creation of characters and worlds easily had me picturing myself in the book's setting with the characters she's written about. I found myself emotionally engaged with Izzy and Bain throughout the entire book. This is one of those NEED TO see what happens next kind of books which I just could not put down. I am truly looking forward to the sequel.
it's not often that you get the opportunity to read a book before it's been published - i was lucky enough to be given that opportunity - Immortal Blood byMagen McMinimy is the first book by this author that i have read -- it will not be the last - Bain and Izzy are meant to be together - they just don't know it at first - their journey in finding each other goes from the world we know to the Fae Middle world - sometimes you just find a character who life you would like to live who goes places you would like to go - i found that in this book -- i'd love to be Izzy and live her journey - once i found the time to start reading Immortal Blood i didn't want to put it down until i finished - i'm keeping my fingers crossed that Megan decides to give the 3 unattached Immortal Brothers their own stories
I loved this book. It's fresh, different (in a positive way) and funny as hell.
Izzy doesn't really date and the one time that she decides to go on a date and have some fun is when one of the Dark Fae (a good luck eater) named Zander. It's nearly to late but Izzy is saved by the Light Fae as they are chasing Xander. Bain (so swoon worthy) and Uriah. This is where Izzy starts to have accidents and needs their help but she is stubborn. Magen has created a unique and beautiful world with in depth characters that you learn to love not all right from the beginning and one character in this case Lady Esperenza not at all. Altogether there are 5 warriors. Cree who is with Rowan (Bain's sister) Bain, Uriah, Lothar and Kale. Kale is the next one in the series and I can't wait.
I just finished reading Immortal Blood, the first book by Magen McMinimy in the Immortal Heart series and I can say I will be getting all of them.
McMinimy has created and original take on the Fae and the world they live in. They are amazing and different and spectacular. Talk about getting hot and bothered about paranormals... you definitely will. The passion between Izzy and Bain is undeniable. It is deep and hot. I was completely invested in this book and everything about this world.
McMinimy evokes depth and passion in her writing and her originality is exceptional. If you love Kresley Cole, you will Love Magen McMinimy!! Come and experience a new world of originality in the paranormal world and find the Fae that's perfect for you!
Having read the short story prequel to this series in the Stalkers anthology, I was anxious to see just how the brothers would take care of the leprechaun problem. Having already read Immortal Promise because I'm an idiot and read series out of order, I needed to see how the Fae got to where they are in the third book. I loved this story and the introduction to the Fae world. It has helped me greatly to understand more of what's going on in the third book because it explains all the things that we should already know by book three. The chemistry between Izzy and Bain is almost intoxicating and I loved their interactions and the way they really just fit together. I'm looking forward to reading immortal Craving next.
I loved it. Izzy was spunky and had a lot of fire. Bain was arrogant, but had his sweeter moments. Personally, I can’t wait for more Kale. There is just something about Zander. I want more of him too. I almost felt bad for him in the beginning. By the end I was hoping he would actually do something to redeem himself. Magen has a different take on the fae, but I loved that. It’s definitely a fast fun read that will leave you wanting more. I’m going to have to read the next as soon as I get a little time.
I downloaded this book because it was free and from the title I assumed it was about vampires, it's not it's about the Fae and I'm not sure why but I've never been particularly fond of Fae books. By the time I started reading I'd forgotten it wasn't vampires and by the time I realised I was hooked, this is a really good read, it has some good characters and the story is interesting and the romance slow building. So all in all a good read and I'll be checking out the next book.
OMG I loved this story, perfect paranormal romance. This book centres around Izzy and Bain, an immortal warrior who protects Izzy but ends up falling in love. It's an unlikely match but amazing nether less. This book had a great story and great plot, love, romance, angst, deceit and family drama. Great characters make for a 'can't put it down read' which grips you from the start. Would recommend and can't wait for the next in this series.
I know most think that three stars is a critical review, but this star rating isn’t negative. This was a nice light beach type read, nothing horrid about the book, but nothing that truly wowed me either. I have read similar books to this one. The author does but her own spin on the myths of the Fae. If you are looking for a quick and fun read then this is a book you should try. Plus it was free at time of my review.
I was given this book by the author in return for an honest review.
What a fab story. Bain and Izzy are excellent characters and I loved how they met through Zander trying to steal Izzy's luck! An then to follow them on their journey of trying to get Izzy's luck back and to finding their way back to each other and their love for one another!
I have to admit the story turned out to be much better than I thought it would be. Nothing for little teenager girls and I like that. What I totally enjoyed about Magen's style of writing is her type of humor and that she does not explain TOO much about a scene so that you can fantasize a bit yourself. Totally worth a reading, I can't wait to read the 2nd book :)
Every girl has that one date that is too good to be true. And for Isabelle, or Izzy, as she is called, he goes by the name Zander. Zander is sexy and charming and apparently a very very naughty leprechaun. He has a habit of stealing luck from unsuspecting women who are successful like our girl Izzy. But Zander isn't aware that he isn't going to be able to completely cash in because two Immortals are hot on his heels. So before he can steal all of Izzy's luck he is stopped by Bain & his brother.
The story is actually one that is pretty awesome. A new world where vampires and leprechauns exist. A group of kick ass soldiers, Immortals, who each have different abilities come to save the human world and protect the good side of the Fae. I have to tell ya, it was fun to visit this world and see how everyone plays their parts. Of course with the good comes the bad. Bain's mother is a horrible woman. More worried about her reputation than her son's happiness and even causes immense pain for him. You know I hate giving away spoilers so I will stop talking about this here...but damn does it get really good!
The writing is really strong and the story is a lot of fun to read. It is a pretty short novel in that I was able to get through it in a day, but it is a really nice read. The love scenes are really done well and are incredibly vivid. I would love to have seen more about their world, but I am looking forward to reading Immortal Heart, which is Kale's story. So hopefully I will see more really great things there!
I give this a solid 4 lipsticks! It was truly fantastic!
I will start by saying that I am not always a fan of books about the Fae. But so far I have always been a fan of books by Magen McMinimy (I have read several books from her Half Blood Princess series). And this time was not different.
One of the things I really liked about this book was the unique twist this author has on the Fae. I really don’t think I have read any other books that have quite this version of their culture. And I really enjoyed it.
Isabelle (Izzy) has a pretty busy life & doesn’t seem to date often. She is out with her sister one night & they meet Zander (who is not what he seems). After much convincing Izzy agrees to go on a date with Zander the next night & after the date Zander gets her alone & starts stealing her luck (that’s right, he’s a luck eater, also known as a Leprechaun). In flies Bain & Uriah (Fae royalty & Immortal Guardians) to rescue Izzy before too much damage is done.
As Izzy watches Zander being attacked by this man with wings & fangs she stumbles in the path of an oncoming truck. Uriah saves her but this is proof that Zander stole enough of her luck that she may be in serious trouble. Bain ends up having to stay with her until she agrees to come to the Fae world to be assessed. And so the story unfolds. And it is a wonderfully sexy story, definitely not for anyone under the age of 18. Can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Immortal Blood is the story of Bain, a Fey warrior, and Izzy, a lucky event planner, who meet under less than desirable circumstances. When her luck is stolen by the leprechaun Zander, Izzy is forced to rely on Bain’s protection. As life in the human world becomes more and more dangerous, Bain takes Izzy to the Fey world; this was the point where the story really picked up for me because of the love story and the supporting cast. I’m not going to give away spoilers, but the black moment in this story and subsequent HEA were really worth the read.
I love fairy tales and mythology, and one of my favorite parts of the book was the original way McMinimy recreated the Fey world. There’s some impressive world building started in this book, and I can only assume it will continue as the series goes on. There are more layers to this book than a simple love story; it also focuses on politics, issues of racism, and the impact of different socioeconomic levels within the Fey community. Definitely check this book out, as well as the future books in the series!
This book is FANTASTIC!!!! I picked it up this morning and I was not able to sit my kindle down. This book is definitely fresh and new. I love the story line. It is very interesting and it a different take on Fae’s. I love supernatural books, but this one was the best I’ve read this year. I love how the author writes her books. Very unique. Izzy has her luck taking away from her by a Leprechaun/Dark Fae Luck Eater. Bain is a Light Fae Warrior who is there to protect Izzy. He wants her to go to his world but she doesn’t want to go. Finally after all her bad luck she decides it is time to go. Izzy and Bain are the main two characters and I really love their story, but I also loved the secondary characters, they really did make the book more interesting. I really like how feisty Izzy is, she had me laughing a lot in this book. Will she get her luck back? This book is a MUST READ. If you like supernatural books this book is for you. It really is different from other supernatural books. Magen is a brilliant and talented author and I can’t wait to read more from her. Great job.
This is a really good paranormal romance that has a HOT angel warrior with fangs & different worlds that the paranormal live on. It has lots of action, a bad guy who is a leprechaun that sucks luck from humans, a feisty heroine that loves her fat cat & can't cook, a snobby paranormal mother who tries to interfere, and of course a romance that builds slowly throughout the first half of the book!
There are a couple of sex scenes, but they aren't too descriptive or long. Just enough to make you all hot and bothered wishing you had your own sexy angel. They don't fall into bed right away. The relationship has time to build. They start getting really intimate around the 48% mark.
I loved reading this book and I couldn't put it down until I finished it! I recommend this to anyone who loves reading paranormal romance books. I've read tons of romance books and this is one of the better paranormal romance books out there. The author does a good job with the story and makes you really connect with her characters in the book. I can't wait to read more of this series!
Immortal Blood is the first book I have read by Magen McMinimy and I absolutely loved it. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end and with Izzy, Bain and his brothers there was never a dull moment. Zander is a luck eating leprechaun who has stolen Izzy’s luck and Bain must protect Izzy while trying to capture Zander and force him to give Izzy back her luck. Bain takes Izzy back to his world where he can protect her but Bain’s mother Lady Esperanza dislike Izzy from the first moment they meet. She refuses to let Bain fall in love with a worthless human, so she takes away something or rather someone he would do anything for. Bain and his brothers are fighting to keep peace within their world, trying to track Zander and now Bain must decide if Izzy is worth fighting for or letting go. I enjoyed this book and the characters so much that I read it in one sitting and I will be starting the second book soon. If you love paranormal books you will definitely enjoy this one.
Another surprisingly good freebie that's been 'collecting dust' in my ebook shelves. This was really good and I totally enjoyed reading this. The characters were dynamic and I really liked all of them. There was humor, emotions, great creativity and imagination, some twists and turns, and a super good HEA. This was a good read and one you'd want to curl up and dig into. Totally Enjoy!
