A remote Greenland research station. A lethal virus preserved in ancient ice. One chance to stop a global catastrophe.
When a remote research station in Greenland goes dark, Harvey “Ben” Bennett and his allies walk straight into a frozen nightmare—and the last thing the world needs is the nightmare waking up.
Ben, leader of the Civilian Special Operations (CSO), wants nothing more than a routine checkup. But when he arrives to find the station abandoned, bloodstains on the walls, and half-buried labs in chaos, he realizes “routine” just packed its bags and fled. Teaming up with Juliet, the station’s determined scientist, Qannik, a no-nonsense local guide, and Dr. Chuck Davis, a field medic who’d rather be anywhere else, they uncover what was a prehistoric virus unlike anything documented in modern medicine.
Now he has bigger problems than subzero temperatures or fickle satellite comms—the virus might already be on the loose.
Making matters worse, a group of ruthless mercenaries shows up hungry for a payday. They’re armed to the teeth and ready to sell the virus to the highest bidder. In a land where the sun barely rises and a fatal storm closes in, Ben and his ragtag allies have zero margin for error. Saving their own skins would be hard enough; keeping a doomsday bug from spreading could be impossible.
Strap in for a heart-pounding race across the ice, where ancient threats lie dormant under centuries of permafrost—and mercenaries lurk behind every snowdrift.
If Ben can’t contain this pathogen, it’s not just Greenland on the line…it’s the fate of the entire planet.

Good, solid thriller tale, if a bit repetitive. The major plot hooks seemed to keep coming up.
On the other hand, the action and scene descriptions in brutal Greenland weather were well done. It’s a harsh setting not repeated in many locations worldwide.
Nick not one of your better books. It wasn’t bad as per se’. But nothing special, almost as if you are going through the motions. But without a normally great - fun - and exciting reads.
I just can't be bothered. It's pretty boring, also the main characters are rather stupid and the writing style is irking me a lot. Also i thought this was some sort of a bit horror, because it reminded be of The Thing, but after rereading the blurb, it's not. So that's on me. But that still doesnt change the rating.
Ben, who is from a series of adventure thrillers and works for an organization (ergo has a lot of experience), gets roped into a cry for help, because there is an attack on an science station somewhere in Greenland. Beforehand he got the info, that the scientist found a million years old virus in the ice shelf and that this virus is still active.
Ofc we DON'T go there with an hazmat suit or at LEAST a fucking gas mask, because we're the MC and ofc everyone knows how that virus does it work. Not. Like???? How fucking stupid is that??? Not one person said how the virus is transmitted, but it's so horrible, that it could wipe out the world. And then u dont take any precautions, oh my god.
Also the mercenaries who attacked the lab are obviously slow AF, because the lab got attacked, a fem survivor got AWAY from there (into another COUNTRY), had the time to get to Ben and ask for help, then fly Ben from XY to her location and THEN to the science lab back. And the mercs are STILL there .... sure. Also obviously the mercs are also pretty stupid, because Ben and his crew barricade an entrance to one of the labs, that the Mercs (who ransacked the place before) opens again and they are not in any form concerned that there is a second group somewhere in the station??? okkkkkayyy.
The writing style is horrible - no idea if it's that bad in the series too, but its always the same scheme.
Character A does something "direct speech". Character B does something. "direct speech". Character C does something "Direct speech." Some description of the surroundings. Character A does something "direct speech".
Somehow this did not seem like Nick Thacker wrote this story. I say this because the story did not flow the way his other ones have. Too choppy. Not to say I did not like being in the frozen north and having people willing to kill at any second, chasing the main characters, to steal a deadly virus. All because of money! I liked the way there were no romantic scenes. Just hints of wanting. You won’t be disappointed in reading this book.
I got goosebumps reading this book. Because of the setting of course, but also and mostly because of the content. Bennett gets into the most interesting situations which require his character to be the honorable man who must care for his people. I read all the HB stories because he's better than most of the real life characters in our world!!thanks for writing his stories!
The Ghost Station is an adventure thriller revolving around a virus, found in a Greenland ice sheet, with the capacity to wipe out large swaths of humanity. The pace is fast, with several sets of mercenaries, a plane crash, a turncoat pilot and more. This is a fun, single sitting read recommended to anyone who enjoys fast paced thrillers! 4/5 stars.
I was enjoying the book through the ice station but then the tide turned as they tried to get Ingrid medical assistance. I was a pilot for 35 years so Nick Thackeray garbage seen in the cockpit did it for me. If you are going to write that crap at least make it possibly believable but what he wrote is pure fantasy as his mind made up. This is probably the last of. I’m for me.
Conditions inside aren't much better. Fast paced, up to the minute contemporary, action and suspense in the frozen North, lead inexorably to clash of priorities between science, public health and politics.
Fast-paced, up all night page turner. Thrills, mystery, no nonsense tale of near death viruse that could take out most of the world. Those who want to exploit it and those who dare to protect it for world safety. I will be looking forward to more.
A short but intense adventure in the wilds of Greenland. Harvey Ben Bennett must battle mercs who are trying to make off with a virus that could end the world. Will he make it out with injured and sick comrades? Read to find out!
