USA Today bestselling author, Elise Faber, loves chocolate, Star Wars, and hockey (the order depending on the day and how well her team—the Sharks!—are playing). She and her husband also play as much hockey as they can squeeze into their schedules, so much so that their typical date night is spent on the ice. Elise changes her hair color more often than some people change their socks, loves sparkly things, and is the mom to two exuberant boys. She lives in Northern California. Connect with her in her Facebook group, the Fabinators or email her at elise@elisefaber.com.
Beauty & the Boardroom is a fun, flirty, and heartwarming read that blends witty banter, sizzling chemistry, and emotional vulnerability into a fast-paced romantic escape. Elise Faber delivers another engaging story featuring a relatable heroine and a swoon-worthy billionaire hero who knows exactly what he wants—and isn’t afraid to fight for it.
Marie is a smart, guarded woman who’s sworn off love after a string of failed relationships. She’s focused on her career and personal peace, but that all changes when her persistent (and irresistibly charming) neighbor, Jace Henderson, sets his sights on winning her over—not just for a fling, but for forever. Their connection is immediate and electric, with playful dialogue and genuine moments of intimacy that pull readers into their world.
What really stood out in this book is the push-and-pull dynamic between Marie and Jace. Their banter is clever, their chemistry is off-the-charts, and their emotional growth feels natural. Jace is more than just a charming billionaire—he’s patient, kind, and unafraid to show Marie that love can be safe, even when it’s passionate.
While the story is thoroughly enjoyable and the romance is well-paced, there were a few moments where the plot felt slightly predictable, and some secondary characters could have been more fleshed out. Still, it’s a minor flaw in an otherwise solid romance.
If you’re looking for a sweet-yet-steamy story with humor, heart, and a determined hero who will melt your heart, Beauty & the Boardroom is a great pick. A solid 4 stars!
Ah, Elise Faber has done it again! Beauty & the Boardroom, the second installment in the Eagles Hockey: Oak Ridge Vineyards series , delivers a delightful blend of romance, intrigue, and humor that kept me hooked from start to finish. Marie, our fiercely independent heroine, has sworn off love after a series of disastrous relationships. Enter Jace Henderson, her charming billionaire neighbor, who is determined to win her heart—not just for a night, but forever. As their chemistry ignites, they find themselves entangled in an FBI investigation, adding layers of suspense to their budding romance. I loved: Compelling Characters: Marie and Jace are a dynamic duo. Their journey from neighbors to lovers is filled with witty banter, emotional depth, and sizzling chemistry. Jace's unwavering pursuit of Marie is both endearing and swoon-worthy. Engaging Storyline: The narrative seamlessly weaves romance with elements of mystery, particularly the ongoing subplot involving Jace's ex-wife. This thread adds intrigue and keeps readers eagerly anticipating the next installment. Emotional Resonance: Faber's writing shines in her ability to infuse genuine emotion into her stories. While some readers noted a desire for even more heartfelt moments, the existing emotional beats are impactful and resonate deeply. Faber's prose is crisp and engaging, balancing humor with heartfelt moments. Her characters are well-developed, and the dialogue feels authentic and lively. The pacing is spot-on, ensuring that readers remain invested throughout. Beauty & the Boardroom is a captivating read that combines romance, suspense, and humor in equal measure. Faber's knack for crafting relatable characters and compelling narratives makes this book a standout in the contemporary romance genre. I devoured it in one sitting and am eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this series. If you're in the mood for a romance that offers more than just steamy encounters—a story with depth, intrigue, and heart—then Beauty & the Boardroom is the book for you. Prepare to be charmed by Jace, inspired by Marie, and left yearning for more from Elise Faber's enchanting world.
I was really excited to read this book. It was nice, sexy and quite romantic. But if I have to be honest, I liked the previous book more.
It was a nice story, to pass the time, but I didn't feel the spark between Marie and Jace, like I felt with Tiff and Jean-Michelle. What disappointed me in this one was the constant war of tug and pull from Marie's side. I can see that Jace fell in love with her from their first meeting. She felt the same and I couldn't understand why she just didn't let go and be happy and loved.
Even so, after all of this, I will still read the next book within the series.
You had me at the meet cute. Marie swipes Jace's Lyft car only to realize he's her new neighbor. Our shero is reluctant when it comes to romantic relationships, but once Jace sets his sites on the strong, smart businesswoman, he's determined to win her heart.
Add in corporate espionage and some colorful secondary characters, and I was here for every bit of this heartfelt, steamy romance. This one is charming and lighthearted but has hidden depths, and I have no doubt you’ll love Marie and Jace.
Marie is used to dynamic billionaires who expect everyone to fall in line with them so when she meets Jace, she's prepared to hold fast against the charm he seems to possess. When Jace pushed Marie into spending time with him, they find chemistry and a kind of peace that only comes from findIng your person. This was a great read and I couldn't put it down. I loved the sassiness of Marie and the strong, caring nature of Jace. Can't wait to see what happens with Brooks!
I liked how Elise didn’t write Jace as a typical billionaire. And the work he was doing was for good and not your typical real estate or buying up companies . He had a lot of green flags
Thoroughly enjoyed my first read by this author. It was sweet, steamy, and heartwarming. I thought Jace was dreamy, cheeky and keen. Marie was prickly with a soft centre. I loved how he broke through her walls. No big dramas - a lovely read.
Beauty and the Boardroom is the next book in this fabulous series Eagles Hockey:Oak Ridge Vineyards🌼 This time the story focuses on Jean-Michel’s assistant and right hand woman, Marie🙌 I love the meet cute for Marie and Jace…it was AWESOME🤪
Jace and Marie’s chemistry is through the roof but I enjoyed how each interaction got Marie to open up…especially with the impression I had of her in the previous book…I knew she’d be a tough nut to crack☺️
I’m so excited to read Brooks’ story next, especially after that small glimpse at the end😳 My only complaint is I feel like January is ages away😭
I’m obsessed with this series. This is the third book in the Oakridge Vineyards series and we are finally getting Jace and Marie’s story. I have been waiting for her since we met her as Jean-Michaels assistant. These books are all interconnected stand alones and you CAN read them individually, BUT…I recommend reading them in order because you do get background information on the characters that makes it easier to follow along.
Marie and Jace have the perfectly frustrating meet cute when Marie steals his lyft..she’s positive it’s hers but mid ride she realises she’s wrong. Thankfully they both live in the same building and funny enough are neighbors.
These two started off on the wrong foot but instantly are intrigued with each other. Jace is immediately taken with Marie, but she is closed off to love and relationships after experiencing a series of heartbreaks in the past.
As they spend more time together they realise they both are investigating an outside entity that is causing financial havoc on both their businesses…Jace is the head of a pharmaceutical company and whoever is meddling is causing chaos that needs to be stopped.
Jace is a powerful man but also one who sees what he wants and goes for it. And what he wants is Marie. Even though she’s reluctant , Jace shows and proves that she can trust him with her heart. These two heat up inside the bedroom like no other and I loved watching them both bring their walls down for each other.
To be honest, I didn’t think anyone could ever handle Marie. She’s so headstrong and closed off that it seemed impossible that anyone would be able to break through her walls. But one man could…and that was Jace. And I loved that he called her cookie because she DEFINITELY is one tough cookie 🍪
Thank you so much to Elise Faber and Wildfire Marketing for the opportunity to ARC read another book in this incredible series 🩷

3.75stars-BEAUTY AND THE BOARDROOM is the third instalment in Elise Faber’s contemporary, adult EAGLES HOCKEY; OAK RIDGE VINEYARD erotic, romance series, set in the author’s Eagles Hockey world. This is billionaire businessman Jace Henderson, and executive at Titan Capital Marie Austen’s story line. BEAUTY AND THE BOARDROOM can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion I recommend reading the series in order as there is a continuing premise throughout.
NOTE: Some of the events of BEAUTY AND THE BOARDROOM cross over with and run parallel to some of the events of BOTTLES AND BLADES.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Jace and Marie) BEAUTY AND THE BOARDROOM follows the building romance and relationship between billionaire businessman and CEO of Genen-core Jace Henderson, and executive at Titan Capital Marie Austen. Jace’s new neighbor is a feisty woman who stirs something deep within our story line hero but little do they know, they have a mutual interest that is disrupting several business ventures and financial deals, and in this, Marie is about to dive into the proverbial rabbit hole to uncover the truth.
The world building mainly focuses on the back and forth between our story line couple, yet the series conflict is barely addressed. Titan Capital owner Jean-Michel Dubois’s business has been targeted, and the fall-out is affecting Jace Henderson’s medical research at Genen-core. The relationship between Jace and Marie is one of immediate attraction but begins acrimoniously with the ‘theft’ of a Lyft ride. Jace is determined to uncover the who, what and why of our story line heroine, a woman who doesn’t do relationships due to issues of trust. The $ex scenes are provocative and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The secondary and supporting characters are limited. We are reintroduced to billionaire Jean-Michel Dubois, and his daughter Chrissy and her husband Rome (Knotted Laces)/ Eagles Hockey 1) and Athena ‘Attie’ Phillips (Knotted Laces/Eagles Hockey 2) as well as Jace’s best friend Brooks Saxton. Brooks story line is next.
BEAUTY AND THE BOARDROOM is a story of trust and misunderstanding, secrets and lies, family and friendships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is entertaining and engaging; the romance is seductive; the characters are determined and dynamic but similarly to book one BOTTLES AND BLADES, the redundancy of certain pet names is distracting. Cookie is mentioned 93 times, once again leading me to believe the hero has forgotten the heroine’s name 😉
Elise Faber's BEAUTY & THE BOARDROOM is a wonderful addition to the Oak Ridge Vineyards series. As always Ms. Faber delivered plenty of humour, witty banter, sizzling chemistry, intrigue, and sigh-inducing romance.
Executive Assistant Marie Austen and billionaire Jace Henderson meet when she literally steals his Lyft, then they discover they are neighbours. Marie initially shows no interest in Jace but sparks certainly fly between them and Jace is determined to get to know more about this feisty woman. When Marie has a disaster in her condo their relationship begins to change, but she is still wary of Jace. She is such a strong, independent woman who knows how to stand up to Jace, while he is determined to win her heart. He fell hard for her but convincing her his intentions are real isn't going to be easy. Will he be able to get her to open her heart and trust him?
While Marie and Jace are dealing with personal matters there is also a lot going on in their professional lives. Jace's business Genen-core is under attack from an unknown source and various happenings have led to the FBI conducting an investigation. Is what's been happening at Genen-core related to what has been occurring at Titan Capital, where Marie works?
BEAUTY & THE BOARDROOM is a thoroughly entertaining read. Elise Faber is such a wonderful storyteller, always pulling me in with her likeable characters, heartfelt emotions, humour, and delicious spice. This book is a definite MUST READ.
I can't wait for the next book in the series, The Bachelor & The Break-In, with Brooks Saxton, Jace's friend, especially after that epilogue.
This is the next book in the Oak Ridge Series by Elise Faber. While it is linked in true fashion to the Eagles Hockey series, these are the stories of the people often in the background, the owner, the executive and more. This book is really no holds barred, erotic and very spicy in the bedroom, kitchen, bathroom………. The author touches on multiple areas and make you think about things while having a great laugh, feel the romance and have it touch your heart.
Titan Capital Executive Marie Austen has fought her way to the top and is a strong powerful woman making her voice heard and her actions known in multiple ways, showing nothing is impossible. Marie is trying to figure out why her boss’s ex keeps popping up from the depth’s of evil trying to ruin anyone and everyone, so having a romance is the farthest thing from her mind. But that mistake with a stranger & a Lyft, then finding out that same stranger just happens to her neighbor who comes to her rescue makes her question some things in her mind. Even more so when she finds out that her boss’s ex is going after him as well.
Jace Henderson is the proud owner of Genen-core and trying to make a difference in people’s lives, especially women. He has had romance in his life and maybe a broken heart, so now he is focused on one thing, the company. Then a beautiful woman accuses him of trying to steal her Lyft ride he wonders if maybe there isn’t something missing. Especially when he finds out she is actually his new neighbor and he quickly has to come to her rescue. Can they work through every roadblock and realize that sometimes being alone isn’t the best option at all. Or will they just let it all go and lose the chance at true love.
This second installment of the series is a worthy addition and combines lust, romance and sizzling chemistry with a dollop of intrigue thrown in for good measure. This story runs somewhat parallel to Jean-Michel and Tiffany's story in Bottles and Blades, the first book in the series.
When Marie Austen steals the Lyft of an exceedingly handsome man (she truly thinks it is her rideshare), only to find they are going to the same place and are actually neighbors, she cannot realize the impact this gorgeous stranger will have on her life. When she finds out he is her neighbor, the thoughts whirling in her head are anything but pure, but Marie also knows that she can't take action on these thoughts because she doesn't trust her own judgment when it comes to men. But Jace Henderson is not just some random, handsome man. He is a billionaire who knows what he wants, and usually gets it, but he also knows that he needs to tread lightly because Marie is likely to bolt at any time. Despite Marie stating that this is a one time thing, the end goal of winning Marie's heart, is the one he keeps to the forefront of him mind because he is never letting her go.
This is a fun, cute read that wanders easily through the connection of Marie and Jace and brings in that touch of suspense that keeps you engaged until the very end. Jace is the typical alpha male, overprotective but attentive, always wanting to put his woman first and make sure she is cared for. This book is written in Ms. Faber's signature crisp prose that I really like and it definitely leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy.
Ever since I got the teaser to their story at the end of Bottles and Blades, I'd been very eager to find out how Jace and Marie's journey was going to unfold. Now having finally finished the book, I can say that it's been so worth the wait.
I love how the men of Eagles Hockey: Oak Ridge Vineyards are just bright and unmistakable bearers of green flags. They're successful, insanely wealthy, gorgeous - but so much more than that, they are protective, deeply caring, and unbelievably kind and gentle. Who wouldn't want to fall in love with a man like that? And in this book, Jace Henderson was truly all that. A great part of the pleasure I took reading this book was watching him do all the right things in order to win over Marie - in spite of her fears, her wariness, her unwillingness to risk herself getting hurt by a man all over again. When Marie finally realized that Jace was her safe place, that she could open her heart again without being overwhelmed by fear of rejection or abandonment - I could only sigh in relief, wanting to tell her - finally girl, you see it, Jace is the one for you!
Clearly, this was such a fantastic read for me, and I was just swept away by the storytelling and the character evolution in this book. I can't wait for the series to continue with the next couple, Brooks and Briar!
I am thankful to the author for granting me a free review copy of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
These two absolutely stole my heart. Jace and Marie are the type of people to keep others at arms length because life has taught them that people will fail you, hurt you, and you'll just end up alone again anyway. So that journey from fear to acceptance and then to love? It was an absolute joy to read.
Marie is such a relatable character. She is a strong, independent woman who plays hardball with every person she encounters, especially men. This makes for hilariously snarky quips and many moments where she's grasping for control of a given situation. Her soft side slowly gets tugged out of her, and when it's fully revealed, it will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy.
Jace is an absolute sweetheart. A little obsessive from the beginning? Absolutely, but let's not lie and say we don't 100% enjoy that. He's so sweet to Marie and so understanding of her need to protect herself. But he's stubborn as all get out, too, and won't just let her walk away out of her deep-rooted fear.
My favorite part was when they but fully let go, realized what they deserved for themselves and what they owed one another and put in the work to give and receive as equally as they can manage. These two are a heartwarming couple that showed great growth throughout the story and left me wanting even more time with them.
This is book 2 in the Oak Ridge Vineyards series and what a fantastic addition it is. The author did not disappoint me, if anything she made me fall in love with the series even more. There is just something about a billionaire who falls for the unexpected female. Especially if said woman is a feisty, independent woman who doesn’t need to play hard to get because she is. This is the case with Jace and Marie. He’s a self made billionaire who is work driven by his past and she is a strong woman who has risen through the ranks where she works and lives a life she loves, even if it does get lonely at times, since she has all but given up on the male population. Well that is until her condo floods and she’s left with no choice but spend the night in her sexy nextdoor neighbors guest room.
From here the story takes off and us readers get a real treat. The storyline is fast paced, funny, romantic and full of exceptional banter. Marie and Jace’s chemistry is off the charts even when they are apart. I can’t recommend Beauty & the Boardroom and book 1: Bottles and Blades enough. Grab them up, you won’t be sorry you did.
What a great story! I read the first novel in this series and really enjoyed it. This novel did not disappoint. I was excited to jump back into this series. This novel from the first chapter pulled me into the story and held on tight until the very end. I loved Marie and Jace's story. I really enjoyed both characters. Marie was fiercely independent and had pretty much given up on relationships. I loved Jace, he was a sweetheart. Both have been thru a lot and are both guarded, but very quickly Jace realizes Marie is his endgame and begins pursuing her. I loved the banter and dialogue. So good! I loved their chemistry. I loved watching both characters drop their defenses and walls and open themselves to each other and fall in love. This novel kept me on the edge of my seat reading and trying to figure out what was coming next. I love when a novel can make me laugh, almost bring me to tears and finally leaves me with a happy heart. This novel did this for me. I can hardly wait to see what this author has coming next.
Let the emotions flow once again—because Elise Faber delivers. With every book, she proves why she’s an auto-buy author for me. Her gift for weaving deep, heart-stopping feelings into every page is second to none, and she brings that same magic to Beauty & the Boardroom—the second instalment in the addictive Eagles Hockey: Oak Ridge Vineyards series.
This time, we’re diving into billionaire Jace Henderson’s world—and trust me, you’ll want to stay there. But the real standout is Marie. Fierce, intelligent, and resilient, she’s a powerhouse both in and outside the boardroom. Burned by love in the past, she’s not looking for another relationship… but a mistaken Lyft share has other plans.
What follows is a beautifully written, emotionally gripping story that will keep you glued to your seat. Once Jace realizes they’re neighbors, it’s game on. He’s smitten, determined, and ready to do whatever it takes to break down Marie’s walls. It won’t be easy—but nothing worthwhile ever is.
Their chemistry? Off the charts. The tension? Delicious. The emotional journey? Pure Elise Faber magic. This isn’t just about falling in love—it’s about finding strength in vulnerability, and choosing to believe in something more.
If you loved book one, Beauty & the Boardroom will sweep you off your feet. A mesmerizing blend of passion, heart, and healing—this is Elise Faber at her finest.
Jace Henderson is Genen-core's CEO and a billionaire. He is very much driven by work and the work he does is because of his past.
Marie Austen works for Jean-Michel Dubois, as his right hand. She's independent, work driven and very good at what she does.
They meet when both of them have ordered a rideshare and when it comes they fight over who it belongs to and of course Marie takes the car and then realizes it was Jace's.
Not bad enough but they both end up at the same condo building and realize they live on the same floor next door to each other.
The sparks are flying and soon they become more than friends which is all Marie wants. Jace wants more and is determined to win her over. She is realizing what a great guy he is but can she trust him that it won't end badly? And oh yeah we have an FBI investigation that involves both of them.
Beauty and the Boardroom is book two in Elise Faber's Oak Ridge Vineyards series and can be read as a standalone, although the story does run concurrent with some of the storyline from book one, Bottles and Blades.
Marie and Jace are FIRE in the bedroom, and even though Marie is determined it's a one and done, she can't help but go back for more from her seriously sexy neighbor. Jace is determined to figure out why Marie is so untrusting when it comes to men and more determined to prove to her that not all men are untrustworthy. I absolutely loved the way he handled her vulnerability. He allowed her to still be strong and in control, but proving himself over and over.
I loved everything about this story. It's full of great chemistry, fantastic banter, and scorching smexy times ;) I loved seeing appearances from the secondary characters and I cannot wait for Brooks' story! I'm always a sucker for a second chance romance ;)
Beauty & the Boardroom follows Jace and Marie's story. Marie is Jean-Michel's (Oak Ridge Vineyards 1) VP for his business, and her story overlaps some of his book. Marie isn't looking for Mr Right, she's looking for Mr Right Now, and the gorgeous guy she stole her Lyft from may just be that candidate.
Jace is the CEO/Owner of his own research company, who just happens to live next door to Marie (oh, and he owns the building as well) and he's looking for Mrs Right, and has his sights set on Marie. When a plumbing mishap lands Marie without somewhere to stay, Jace very kindly offers his place while hers is getting fixed.
There's a fair bit of overlap with Jean-Michel's story, and knowing this story would be helpful to understand some of the back story. I was a tad worried at the beginning that we were in some stalking territory, but it ended up working out OK.
Once again, we are given a story of friendship, intrigue and love that is entertaining and full of witty banter. Ms. Faber delivers the well-written story of Marie and Jace, two strangers who meet by chance, sparks ignite and love blooms. While all this is happening, Ms. Faber throws in some suspense to keep us wanting more and keeps us turning the pages to see what is going to happen. Right from the start, I knew I was going to enjoy this story. Marie is a feisty and beautiful woman who has had a hard time in the relationship department and meeting Jace threw her for a loop with his sweet talk and determination to win her heart. Jace is a businessman who will sweep you off your feet and make you fall in love with him. Beauty & the Boardroom is a great addition to the Eagles Hockey: Oak Ridge Vineyards series.
I really enjoyed Marie and Jace's story, and I loved the way they met and the ongoing banter between them.
Jace is a billionaire and falls for Marie at their first meeting, Marie is an executive assistant, is fiercly independent, but has been burned before, so he is very reluctant for a relationship. I loved watching Marie try and keep it as a one night stand, but Jace is so persistent that their relationship become something more.
They are loosly connected via their workplaces and are both pulled into an ongoing investigation.
This is book 2 and is a standalone, but I do feel like I was missing some of the background investigations with Marie's boss, which must have been fully explained in book 1. I mean, it doesn't detract from Marie & Jace's story, but I wanted more information on that side of the story, and it was mostly summerised. So if you have time, read book 1 first.
I thought it couldn't get any better then Elise Fabers yummy Hockey Hunks. Turns out I know nothing. Because then came the Oak Ridge Vineyards series and with it the dreamy Boardroom Bosses.
First came Jean-Michel and Tiff in Bottles and Blades. Their story had me floating on cloud nine weeks after reading the last page. And now? Beauty & the Boardroom? Shot me right back up there.
I absolutely adored 'watching' Jace and Marie falling for each other. Him definitely more willing and all-in then her. Which in typical Elise Faber fashion makes for a wild and exciting read. And hey, no third act breakup! So 5 additional stars for that.
If you haven't started reading the Oak Ridge Vineyards series yet, you are missing out! Come over to the boardroom side, the Boardroom Bosses will see you now.
Jace and Marie were both workaholics, but were drawn to each other. He loved pushing she buttons, but also strived to make her life easier. She was guarded and had walls built to keep him out, yet he found a way in. His nickname was great and the reasoning was even better.
I like when both characters are strong and independent, yet show vulnerability to the other that no one else sees. His interaction with his friend was fantastic and her capabilities in her job were impressive. He never treated her like she couldn’t do something and she didn’t treat him differently once she found out who he was.
The connection between the companies was unexpected, but I had a feeling there was more to both of their problems than we knew about. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
A beautiful romance book, a love story that starts with a hilarious meet cute and ends, leaving you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.
Marie is fierce, smart, strong and independent. She’s not looking for forever because she’s been let down time again. All she’s interested in from her handsome billionaire neighbor is a bit of fun.
Jace is a self-made man that is fighting to make the world a better place through his company. When he gets tangled up in the storm that is Marie, he is instantly smitten and he just decides he doesn’t want to let her go.
So with the help of some unforeseen circumstances, a bit of force, proximity, his charm and caring nature he manages to show Marie that they are meant for forever
I will never get enough of Ellis’s book. I will always want more.
I have received an ARC for this book and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
Eagles Oak ridge Vineyards Hockey book 2 by Elise Faber ,was not a labour to read . It was heaven sent good . It’s got great chemistry , they clash with derision at every executive decision.Beauty and the Boardroom ,what an apt title. Marie’s neighbour Chase wants her post haste. He’s a billionaire with flair and money to waste I shouldn’t wonder , and he does care . For Marie he will do all he can to make her see that he’s her man. This book is intriguing ,romantic too , when she allows him to woo. It’s real sweet after the fact ,you see Jace’s car got hijacked and the thief in our midst was Marie . I was loving this! It was the chef’s kiss bliss of a storyline Oops! Don’t you know ,not on your own doorstep and all that but he sees her vulnerability and isn’t about to let her snap. Simply divine and such a great setting ,the storytelling is first class great. I loved anyway.
This was another solid read from an author I really enjoy reading. Overall this was probably a 4.5 star read for me as I loved the characters and the story kept me interested throughout, devouring it in one day. The ongoing backstory with JM's ex wife is still intriguing and I look forward to more info as it continues to evolve. The only reason it wasn't a full on 5 star read for me was because it didn't have a moment where it gutted me and got me all emotional. I've found there's often a little extra heart in the author's work that pushes it over the edge for me so without it I kind of missed that extra emotion. It's still a great read though and I'm excited for more in the series, especially with the sneak peak at the end...
Marie is a powerhouse. She left quite a mark on me from previous books, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on her story.
The story starts off with a misunderstanding and leads to unforgettable memories. Jace likes going after the things he wants, and boy, does he want Marie. She is smart and capable, gives as good as she gets, but her past has marked her for all relationships. This is why when they first get together, she puts up high walls that Jace keeps breaking down.
What I loved about our lovebirds is the way they talk about anything and everything and were really each other's strongest supporters. They were a perfect match, and their love story is one for the books.
This is the second book in this impressive series, and this is Jace and Marie’s story. Marie has sworn off love and is focused on her career where she is the right-hand girl for Jean-Michel. Jace is a gorgeous, patient, wealthy. and her possessive neighbor, who is determined that 1-night is not enough, and he wants more, but will he be able to convince Marie to take a chance? This is a well written easy to read story, with emotions, misunderstandings, determination, enemies / lovers, tension, humor, witty banter, vulnerability, engaging and relatable characters, palpable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, fun, and heartwarming, addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
