Silo Saga Universe

Concessions: A Silo Story

Rate this book
Both comedy and tragedy, Jane's life is anything but ordinary. She's lived her life in the spotlight, given more than she's received, and is sacrificing everything for the people she loves. Her only request: a few concessions. Set in the World of WOOL and in the same Silo that Grace (from VISIONS of WOOL) has overseen for eighty years, comes a story of love, passion, sacrifice, and above all else, hope for the future.

In 2005, I completed my first novel which sits loved but unpublished, in a drawer. I've had numerous non-fiction articles published in the Body, Mind and Soul section of LUX Magazine. VISIONS of WOOL was my first published work of fiction, then along came Concessions, and a little story called The Man Upstairs in a DeadPixels Publication called, Flying Toasters.

My most recent publication is a book of poetry called, Elemental.

This book is nice change from the usual themes of oppression and depression in silo life. Jane's story is an entirely personal one, divorced from silo politics, although the law plays a part in her ultimate choice. I enjoyed the details of Jane's life in a part of the silo that is not routinely given a lot of attention. Jane makes concessions throughout her life to benefit her family, and receives a few concessions herself for her final choice in life. Her story is a tribute to love and hope, but reminds us that sadness and joy are two sides of the same coin. No one lives life without experiencing both. This story is very well done, and I enjoyed the journey through Jane's life as well as the exploration of a couple of lesser known aspects of silo life.

Concessions is about a woman faced impossible choices, and the "concessions" she makes in the name of family and duty. In the end she must decide whether one life is worth the price of another. In this brief, but detailed account of "Jane's" story, the author confronts her readers with questions we'd like to think we know the answers to. For example, how much is your life worth? Your happiness? Love?

Definitely a must-read.

To love a book is to love the characters. In Concessions, I fell in love with Elizabeth's protagonist, Jane.

This author's mastery of character is evident throughout the story; Jane's voice is so unique, I feel I'd recognize her anywhere. It's easy to get pulled into her journey, facing that final walk with her.

I've never read the original work that Concessions is based on, but if it's anything like this story, I'll devour it.

Wow. I will be hearing the soft clicking of knitting needles in the back of my head for days...

Hanna Elizabeth has really done it this time... With grace, compassion, and a sense of irony, she tells this story. A story of impending death... A story of new life... A story of hope.
Her characters are remarkably human, filled with regrets, worries, and foibles, making them utterly believable. This story goes way beyond “fan fiction,” and stands proudly on its own.

A superb look of silo life

I have read Hugh Howey's series as well as all other authors books pertaining to the silo. I must say this one is my favorite. What a truly powerfully written book. Most of us can relate to one aspect of this book or another and feel the sacrifice that was made. We will see big things from Hanna Elizabeth!

amazing Closing Act

This short silo story is beautifully crafted and highlighted how one elderly woman who had lived a very full life made the ultimate sacrifice for her family. Absolutely delightful.

Life is a play, and the silo is our stage. Jane, the proprietor of the silo's theater puts on the first original play the silo has ever seen, while orchestrating the play of her life at the same time. Hanna has done some more fantastic writing in the Wooliverse, and crammed a lot of powerful feelings into a short piece. I heartily recommend this for fans of the Wooliverse. It is another fantastic addition to the growing collective.

I read and enjoyed Elizabeth's previous book in the Silo universe, Visions of Wool. I looked forward to this one. Both are well-written, but different in spirit. This one is more contemplative, more measured. Interrupted by counting of knitting stitches, the tale is measured out and pieced together like a comfortable woolen sweater. There is anticipation in the process, infuriating sidetracks, and revelations of whether choice or fate drives the patterns of their lives.

This is a touching little tale of regrets, sacrifice, family, and lifelong love. The only thing that bothered me, and only slightly, was the narrator alternating between the usage of "my companion" and "you" when referring to whom she is speaking with in the first part of the story. Aside from that, the tale is a quick read that is moving and very well written.

Wow what a good story... I've read Wool fanfic when it first was a thing, but lost track of it sometime back. This story was like coming home complete with a warm knitted blankie. I'll probably have to rethink this decision and read more stories in the Woolverse or at least Hanna Elizabeth's other story...

I could put down this book.

I really never got into this book. I struggled to vet almost halfway through, and the I
had to put it down. The use of 1st person felt very awkward in this story and I never got into the story enough to get the knitting analogy. I can't recommend this book
