US Marshal #1

Protecting Lyndley

Rate this book
My name is Lyndley, or Sarah I suppose, depending on who you ask. My once amazing dream of a life had all been taken away from me one tragic night. A night that I wouldn’t soon forget. I knew my job was a dangerous one, but it never crossed my mind that one day it could all just disappear right before my eyes.

Now I was trapped in a never-ending nightmare and living a life that was no longer my own. At least I wasn’t completely alone, but Ky Wakely was the kind of man that made you wish you were. Sure he was easy on the eyes, but everything else about that man drove me utterly insane.

I suppose every dream comes with a price, but when it’s your life, was it a price I was willing to pay?

Where do I start? I have been trying to figure out this review for the past week. Words are failing me.

SAY WHAT?

Yeah I know. It doesn't happen often. But with my review for Protecting Lyndley, I want it to be prefect because I loved this book.

I love sex in books. I love hot, dirty, every page you turn there is a scene that makes your panties melt. But you know what, sometimes I want to read a book that has a story, that has writing so amazing that you have to know what will happen and you just can't stop reading. Sex is an added bonus, not the reason for reading the book.

Amanda Bennett has blown me away with this book. This, for me, is her best writing, EVER.

From the character development, to the chemistry between Ky and Lyndley, it is all wrapped up in the most amazing package.

This book has everything you need. Suspense, sexy and delicious US Marshall, What the FUCK moments you didn't see coming, angst and some pretty delicious sex.

With all that being said, I wanted more of an ending. It was all wrapped up, but it did feel a little rushed, I would have liked more of a story.

This is a must read and I can't wait for more of this series.

WOW… this book had me hooked form chapter one…. I couldn’t put it down and devoured it in one sitting…..
This is a suspense romance novel which will keep you needing more as the plot twists and turns…..
Lyndley is a new law graduate, who is living her dream …. Until it is all taken from her in a blink of an eye and she is taken into the witness protection programme and becomes Sarah…..
U.S. Marshall KY, is fighting his own emotional hell with the help of the bottle when he is called up to protect Lyndley……
Has these two are thrown together; the sexual tension between them builds and builds till it explodes….. But they continue to battle with themselves to keep their relationship professional…….
I simply adored this story; it had just the right amount of suspense, angst, drama, love and sassy to keep you hooked….. I cannot wait for more from this series…. I highly recommend this book!!!
I have become a true Amanda Bennett fan girl…..

Disappointing

Lindley isn't intelligent, she's willfully pig-headed and behaves stupidly. Ky's a poor drunk if he gets so soused on a couple of beers and I cannot see the Marshal service hiring or retaining someone like him. Witness protection doesn't take people and put them in high profile jobs, I don't think. Bank VP? Store owner? Not likely. Lyndley must have amazing recuperative abilities to recover from bullet wounds so rapidly. One more thing, the word "revelry" is not the same as "reverie." The author makes that mistake more than once.

This should have been a good book. But it just wasn't. I rolled my eyes constantly. The main characters were rude to everyone all the time. The plot should have worked, but there was just entirely too much in this one book. It's like the author had a list of ideas for books and put them all in this one. It was just too much and was completely far fetched. I didn't like either of the main characters. There were spelling & grammatical errors throughout the book. It just didn't work...none of it.

Loved the book. There was just the right amount of suspense, drama and emotions wrapped up in a beautiful book. I loved how Lyndley and Ky "worked" together. She was in wittness protection and he was a Marshal who protected her. He tried to do everything in his powers to make her feel save. But not everything goes as planned. Lots and lots of twists and turns in this book, that makes you turn page after page, just so you find out what happens next.

Can`t wait to read the next book in this series!

I am hooked on this new series by Amanda Bennett. I can not wait until the next book in the series.

Lyndley and Ky are smoking hot together. Thrown together in an unusual situation, Ky and Lyndley must figure out what they have is real or just part of the circumstances sounding their life on the run.

An absolute page turner for me! Highly recommend if you are looking for some adventure with love.

Protecting Lyndley

We are huge fans of Amanda Bennett's writing and this book did not disappoint. Told in dual POV we are taken on a journey of two strangers thrown together.

Lyndley is working on the notorious Nelson's Brothers case. Every person involved in the case was assigned a Detective to watch over them. Lyndley and her best friend Reese had been working late one night when tragedy struck. In a few short hours Lyndley's life had changed, her life as she knows it is gone, done, finished.

US Marshal Ky Wakley and his sexy alpha male fine ass has been assigned a new case, to act as the husband to a lady who was wanted dead. Annoyed, he now has to pack up and move to New York as well as take a witness to a safe house, and act as this chicks husband. Could his life suck anymore right now?

For Ky Wakley it is to protect Lyndley at all costs. Problem is letting go of your life and what you've always known is hard, it would put anyone in a mood. Moving forward while trying to stay alive and with a person who gets on your nerves adds for an interesting relationship.
We love the annoying, fun, stirred up banter between Lyndley and Ky.

When Lyndley and Ky meet for the first time things don't go so smoothly and they are on the run and on the road before they know it. Over the next twelve hours rather than get to know one another and find some common ground, they shit stir each other to know end.

"You're a real treat, you know that"
"So I've been told"

Ky and Lyndley now otherwise known as Ky and Sarah Parker have moved into a upscale neighbourhood in New York. With the two posing as a married couple and a clear distaste for each other already, it's going to be one interesting ride. Can these two get past their annoyance for one another to survive?

"I guess if there was going to be peace in our household, then I needed to stop being such a prick. Now all I needed was for her to stop being such a bitch".

(I'm sorry let me (Kristy) wipe the drool from my chin, Ky wet, naked, gorgeous body, surely Sarah can survive living with this gorgeous piece of a man)

Day one in their new lives and it goes without a hitch, just as these two seem like they are getting along one of them says something to have the other second guessing they are more than just a 'job'. The tension between these two is running high, the back and forth banter with each other keeps you hanging. One minute they like each the next they piss each other off, then they get close to one another and then one pulls away. The sexual tension is at an all time HIGH, you can feel how strong it is between the two.

Kristy - I loved the banter and sexual tension building between these too.

Dressed to impress for Ky's work function both are taken aback with how HOT the other looks! This is going to make for an interesting night. Playing the perfect couple at Ky's work even these two look like a happily in love married couple, it's been a perfect night...

That is until someone catches up with Lyndley when Ky isn't around. Things go horribly wrong Ky and Lyndley are on the run and heading to yet another safe house. After having a perfect night with an attentive Ky, Lyndley is surprised he is back to his asshat self again. She is relieved to see they have arrived at their new safe house, a ranch in the middle of nowhere with a handsome cowboy. Things could be looking up for Lyndley.

Ky's past is holding him back from showing Lyndley what he feels for her, he needs to keep her at an arm’s length, she is just a job, she has to be, why hasn't his heart caught up with his brain?

Enter Ruger the handsome cowboy. He is there to help them at their next safe house. Seeing the sexual tension between Lyndley and Ky, Ruger lets Lyndley know that Ky really isn't a bad guy he just has a bad past.
Ky is desperate to keep his feelings hidden, he believes he is not good enough for Lyndley.
Going through every emotion is slowly breaking Lyndley. She’s alone; Ky is pushing and pulling her. There is only one way to find out why Ky keeps treating her so hot and cold, she needs to ask him and find out the answers for herself.

"Are you sure you really want to know, everything?"
She was now facing me, her hands coming up and cradling my face in them. "I've never been more sure of nothing in my life".

Is Lyndley going to be able to handle Ky's secrets? Or is it enough for her to let Ky think of her to be just a job?

Lyndley has taken Ky's secrets in her stride, the chemistry continues to build and build and when these two come together they are meant to be. Finding lust and love with one another is not going to be easy when it’s Ky's job to protect Lyndley. Just when they think things have died down and starting to feel like life is normal, all hell breaks loose. The suspense will keep you wondering what will happen next.

Could their feelings for one another get in the way of the threat towards Lyndley?

Kristy – I loved this line from Lyndley. The emotion pouring from her made me want to reach through and hug her. "In the short amount of time that I had know him, I had fallen for him with one hundred percent of my heart every ounce of me yearned to feel his arms wrapped tightly around me"

Kayla - "She brings out a part of me that I had been burying deep inside for far too long. I guess I just don't think it's fair to make her feel like she needs to fix me."

We LOVE Amanda Bennett's writing, Protecting Lyndley is the first instalment in the US Marshall Series and this book blew us both away.

I was super excited to read this book … It was my first Amanda Bennett read and after meeting her at a book signing and falling in love with her sweetness I was anxious to explore her work.

Because of her job, Lyndley Caverly winds up the target of some very bad people. She goes into witness protection where she is in the care of US Marshall Ky Wakely. There is an immediate attraction but Ky resists the pull he feels for her because it is, afterall, his job to protect her. Well, he lasts for about five minutes anyway and thus begins the never-ending hot / cold treatment from Ky. Poor Lyndley. I don’t mean to bad mouth Ky because, honestly Lyndley isn’t much better. As far as their relationship goes, she is really immature towards him.

There were several things I enjoyed about the book. Overall, the storyline was refreshing. There were twists and turns I didn’t see coming! Despite the hot & cold and immaturity, Ky and Lyndley shared some tender moments that touched my heart.

There were also a few things that didn’t work for me and it brought on a whole discussion between me and my book besties about fiction … when do you let things slide because you are reading fiction and when you don’t. It may have just been me but several facets of the story just didn’t work. Nothing major but when you add them all up, I struggled overall with the book. For example, Ky and Lyndley are located by the bad people so they move to an isolated farm house to hide out. When they are told the bad people found them again and they might be out in the woods surrounding the house, what do Ky and Lyndley do? They run upstairs, have sex, and then go to sleep. Run and have sex … I’m okay with that but skip the nap … there’s bad people in the woods!

Overall, the book was okay. I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if the instances of “that would never happen” didn’t occur so often. You should give it a chance though … everyone reads a book differently! = )

Boy oh boy did I enjoy this book. Amanda my love you have done it again. There was not a slow start to this book, Amanda threw us in the cross fire and just went with it. I loved it.

Lyndley or Sarah what ever you want to call her watched a horrible scene unfold right in front of her, thanks to her lovely new job. She is immediately put into protective custody with the U.S Marshalls. As much as she wants to fight it, she knows that she needs to be safe and Ky is her best bet.

Ky has had his heart broken and has turned to drinking. He get's a call from the Marshall's to watch over this girl. Ky sees her am starts to make judgments based on her appearance. Things aren't always as they seem and though they have a few road blocks he starts to realize that he may have assumed wrong. He sure knows how to mess up and say all the wrong things at the wrong time, but when it comes to protecting her I think he does a great job.

This starts their relationship. So I will tell you that this book held my attention and though Ky does have a "little" problem, that I was concerned about, I knew that I still liked him. Lyndley had her issues as well but who wouldn't have given the situation she was in. Her entire life was just turned upside down in one night and now she has to live a lie. I get where she is coming from and being unsure of everything around her.

I wold love to talk more about the book, but I am afraid I would spoil it for you. There are a lot of twists and turns that you may or may not see, I thought of a few and I was wrong on several of them (thank goodness). So go get your copy and come back and tell me what you thought of this book. I can't wait to read more of this series. BTW, no cliffhanger.

Lyndley was just a lawyer working one of the biggest cases she'll ever get, taking down the Nelson brothers. The Nelson brothers are the two biggest crime lords of Chicago so just taking on the case was a big possibly lifethreatening deal. She soon found out that she'd be leaving her family and friends behind by faking her death in the hope of keeping her life safe. Little did she know her life may never be safe while the two men she was trying to take down walked the earth.

Ky Wakely, the hotshot U.S. Marshal who was assigned to protect Lyndley. He was on the verge of being an alcoholic because he just couldn't deal with his past. He was a dick throughout a good portion of the book but it's understandable. He didn't want to get close to Lyndley and even then he figured he couldn't because she was just a job. But playing fake husband and wife may have been just what these two random people needed.

With near death experiences, being on the run, crazy plans, and fake deaths this story was a page turner filled with suspenseful heart racing action and romance. I was on the edge of my seat chewing my fingernails for most of the book. Can't wait to read the next in the series.

Protecting Lyndley is a story about putting your feelings on the back burner to protect the one that means the most to you, but there’s one big problem. You’re not suppose to fall for the one you’re protecting.

Lyndley is a young lady who has witnessed a horrific event due to her current case she is working. When this happens she is forced to leave behind everyone that is important to her, lead them to believe that she is dead, and have a husband who is a total prick.

Ky has been dealt a rough set of cards lately, and not only is he having to protect some rich chick, but he’s also gonna have to lay off the booze as well. When he gets the call about Lyndley, he never expected her to have such an effect on him, but he keeps his guard up until one night it comes crashing down.

Protecting Lyndley is a story about protecting someone you don’t know, letting your guard down, doing what you think is best, and then realizing how wrong you were.

Amanda Bennett is one of my all time favorite authors. Each time she never dissapoint me, and in fact, I can’t wait until she releases again. Protecting Lyndley left me hurting for both sides, on the edge of my seat, ready to kill someone, and never wanting the story to end!

This is the first book that I’ve read from Amanda Bennett and overall I thought it was a good story. Lyndley (Sarah) is a witness in protective custody and Ky is her handler. I have a high tolerance for suspension of disbelief. I’m able to say ‘yep, that’s far fetched, but works in the story’ and that’s exactly what parts of this book screamed. There are some over the top situations and some aren’t entirely believable, but they add to the back story for the characters.

If you like action packed books with bad guys, sexual tension, and a happily ever after then Protecting Lyndley will be right up your alley. I’m not a huge fan of either Lyndley or Ky, but together they work and I like their chemistry. For those that like suspense mixed with twists and turns, I think you’ll enjoy the US Marshal Series.

I’ll definitely be reading more books from Amanda Bennett. I’d put this in my lazy Sunday afternoon sweet read category. I’m actually looking forward to the second book in this series, Chasing Carson.

Protecting Lyndley was a sweet, romantic read. It had quite a few twists and turns that left you in suspense and wanting to know what was going to happen. Watching your best friend get murdered in front of you and then leaving your life without any good-byes would be extremely hard for anyone. The emotions one would feel would run the gamut and Lyndley wasn’t any different. Through fear, she learned to trust and eventually love. My only complaint was that I didn’t feel like the relationship between Lyndley and Ky was explained enough. At times, it felt like a day had passed when it was actually weeks or months. Overall, it was a pleasant read and I look forward to Ruger’s story. (3.5 Stars)

"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."

There is a carefully thought out story in this book - but in places it seems too far fetched. Although I liked the differing povs, and the back story that came out, I found the use of language strange in places. It may be because I am not from the USA.

I will be interested to watch this author's progress with this series.

This didn't work for me at all. I didn't really like tha characters, they were rude. And as far as I'm aware the U.S. Marshals don't actively hire alcoholics or people without an ounce of professionalism like Ky. I also found the writing style to be rather jarring. The ideas behind the story were interesting ones and COULD have worked if I had been able to appreciate the characters more, but leads who spend all their time whining about how awful their lives are and how they NEVER whine just do not engage my interest.

This is easily a 3.5 STAR. I really do get involved when there is so much on the line. This story wasn't overly dramatic, it wasn't an easy love, and not all ends were tied up, leaving many possibilities for the future.
