Emilia is desperate to rid herself of her ex-husband. She doesn't want anything serious to happen, she only wants to scare him a little. Which is why she had the bright idea to summon a bodyguard as protection. Now, she's out nearly a thousand dollars in supplies and she's left with a half-demon.
Silas is forever trying to step out of his father's shadow, or to earn his approval. He's not sure yet, but when he has the chance to make a deal with a powerful witch who is willing to give her life in exchange for protection from a mere mortal. It might be the opportunity he has been waiting for, if he doesn't mind staying at the end of her leash. Metaphorically, of course, right?
In protecting Emilia's life, Silas has given her a second chance to live and maybe, in turn, he will find a reason to step away from his father's control once and for all.
Taming the Wicked Wolf is a low-angst, high-steam standalone paranormal romance novella with a guaranteed happily ever after.
Kenzie James is a she/her spicy SFF romance author. When she’s not writing about snarky aliens, cinnamon roll demons, or golden retriever vampires, she’s playing Warframe or creating yet another druid in Baldur’s Gate 3. Kenzie currently lives in Texas with her two cats, Wesley and Xander along with her trusty MacBook, Astarion.
I DNF this book. I tried really hard, but I couldn’t do it.
Everything felt too rushed for me. The romance, the smut scenes (very disappointing), the storyline. I’ll give you a few examples:
1. They literally went from roommates to sexually attracted to each other overnight. And I’m not exaggerating here! It was literally overnight they decided the other person was the most sexy person they’d ever seen in their life! The FL had noticed the wolf demon being attractive, but it seemed mostly an observation not a sexual tension thing. Nothing had happened between the couple at all, then the ex showed up, and she opened up about what happened with him, and then the next day they can’t keep their hands to themselves and everything gets hot and heavy out of nowhere. Very confusing. 2. The FL has been having issues with her ex harassing her for the 2 years they’ve been separated so she summons a demon to help protect her. Out of nowhere she’s able to stand up to her ex and makes him leave her alone after having the demon with her for like a week. You just sold your soul for him to protect you, when all this time you could have done it yourself?!
There were also issues with grammar that were driving me a little nuts, but nothing as bad as the plot. Could not do it. I was hoping the smut would at least make up for the plot, but that was a bust as well.
This is adorable spicy little Novella! I enjoyed this one a lot better than the first ones. I almost wish this was a full length novel so we could get more of Silas and Emelia 😍
Very quick read with an older FMC, which was refreshing. Demon bodyguard small town romance that was fun. Spice was alright, but again, this was like a novella.
This was a cute little demon/ witch romance featuring an older FMC (36) and a wolf demon. Apparently, he's part of a demon class that's protective rather than destructive or self-serving as demons are known to be. A really cool concept that completely didn't get developed at all. Also, he's a wolf demon so he has the ears and the knot of a wolf, but never even shifted! Why bother making him a wolf?
Silas, while an absolute sweetheart of a love interest, was largely ineffective when it came to actually providing protection. His presence merely allowed Emilia to gain confidence back to handle the situation herself and fall in love with a person who treated her right. For the fast pacing and the quick introduction of their lusty thoughts for one another, this was a surprisingly slow-burn book. The hottest part of this story was Emilia using "good boy" a few times and walking in on Silas pleasuring himself and then watching him finish.
This novella has a lot of cool elements that would have made for a great full-length story. If you've read a lot of demon romance, it may seem pretty tame but this story would be great for any reader new to the genre who wants something quick to read that's low angst with some supernatural elements.
This was cute and fun. Would have made a great full length novel. Not sure why it's not rated higher so I'm giving it 5 stars.
Emilia, the FMC, is 35, divorced, her ex sucks and is still obsessed with her and being creepy. So she contracts the MMC, Silas, to be her protector. He's a wolf demon who looks like he's in his 20s but is hundreds of years old and without his human glamour he's still humanoid but with wolf ears and blue tattoos. (My inner teenager who loved Inuyasha was pleased.)
I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two characters. They both came to terms with who they are and what they want out of life. Could definitely relate to Emilia who was questioning her self worth after a crappy relationship with an ex who made her feel less than. Loved how Silas supported her finding her power again, helping her get there on her own. Just a lovely story!
A friend mentioned this book to me so I decided to go check it out, and I'm glad I did. This novella makes for a quick and easy read, and was a lot of fun.
I really enjoyed the interaction Emilia and Silus, and mad props to Kenzie for coming up with such an inventive storyline. Good dialogue and the characters were well developed. I had to smile at the interaction between Silus and the (demon) bartender - two paranormal beings talking about getting a job and making a living in the human world. There was something about that scene that reminded me of the series Angel - two beings finding themselves in an usual situation and still talking about the banal. Anyways it made me smile.
Great story, good ending and it all wrapped up really well. Kudos to Kenzie!
Kenzie James knocks it out of the park with yet another wild and unique premise. When Emilia is trapped by her awful, politically powerful ex, she decides the only solution is to summon a demon guard... dog? The pacing in this novella felt so much smoother than the first book, everything just flowed perfectly. I loved that Emilia wasn't some damsel; she’s a genuinely strong FMC, and Silas respects her completely. He’s happy to be her protective "good boy." Their chemistry was intense. Seriously, the spice scenes were off the charts, and I felt their connection in every interaction. Honestly, my biggest complaint is that this wasn't a full-length novel! I would have loved way more plot and character development with these two.
Hmm... How do I feel about this novella? Same as the last story by this author, the concept is great, the characters are interesting, but the writing is...off...incomplete...something. Though, it is better than in the first book; this time only two scenes were overly confusing. First, are they facing each other or is he behind her? Where exactly is the mirror in this restroom? Second, where did the deputy come from? Why is he arresting the wrong person? I mean, I know why, but why does no one voice their objections? The scene was missing a few extra lines to make it make sense. So, yeah. It's a quick and cute story that is enjoyable if you ignore the writing.
is it a five star book? no. did i enjoy it as much as i did my other five star ratings? yes
fmc is 35, instead of 19, and she's relatable af. does it follow the cliche tropes? yes. did i enjoy reading those cliche tropes? they are easily ignored, so yes.
it's more about a woman coming back into her power after a bad relationship than anything else. yes it does have those magical flares and all that but it's a simple story.
it doesn't have much world-building, it's on a small town in the United States, so it's fairly simplistic.
does she repeat words and expressions? yes. am i conviced her step dad is inspired by Dean Winchester? absolu-fucking-tely.
KU Read - 116 Pages Paranormal Romance Demon x Witch Novella
Second in the series, a sweet short romance when Emilia makes a deal with a wolf demon for protection against her ex who is stalking her. In the end he helps her with her magic and gives her the confidence to stand up to him in her own... So does their deal stand? Does he really want to take the soul of the woman he's madly in love with? Or does he just want to live happily ever after with her?
I loved the setting in the quaint mountain town, the bit of drama our main character is trying to escape with the help of her summoned demon wolf. I loved her job and her work bestie. The magic aspect is cool and the spice is just right. I would have loved a little deeper character building and more info about the demon world that was hinted to. Overall great read! And it is so nice to have ‘older’ main characters.
This was such a cute little read! I love a spicy little snack! A little bit of spice, a demon wolf who 100% switched between a human glamour and his natural state of having wolf like attributes and some delicious markings. Apparently some people—cough cough ⬇️— didn’t quite pay attention as they were reading lol and a full grown woman breaking away from her mental and environmental cages. I am very excited to watch this author blossom and grow through their writing. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
He falls first and then falls harder is one of my favorites. Especially when the he in question is a big bad demon. As for conflict? It’s kinda meh. It reads more like a day in the life rather than a conflict resolution type beat. But if you’re looking for a curl on your couch to unwind for the evening type book I suggest it.
This story had a lot of promise, but it did feel very rushed in some parts that could have used better in-depth description and world building. This easily could have been double the length with a little more excitement with the antagonist.
Needs some work, but it’s a cute read. I do wish it had been longer, as some parts felt rushed, but the author is on the right track. Just needs some edits.
A quick read. I loved the magic element of this one. I don't often enjoy magic in romances. A witch and a demon, how could it not be love? lol Cute, and little spicy, would recommend!
Super fast novella. I wish it was a full length book with the backgrounds of the characters more fleshed out and the different species/creatures discussed that walk amongst humans
