Rate this book
WANT TO GET YOUR BIG IDEA TO MARKET? In 90 days, you can successfully launch a new business, product, or service by following the steps in this playbook. Ninety-seven percent of a rocket’s fuel is used in the first three feet of its launch. The same is true when launching a new business. These first few steps are absolutely critical and help determine which ventures will take off and which will fail. Scott Duffy has developed a practical approach for turning your big idea into a thriving venture by focusing on the crucial period of 90 days immediately before, during, and after starting your business. Based on his own experiences as a successful serial entrepreneur who has worked with Richard Branson and Tony Robbins—and true stories of other big names in business—Duffy has collected all of the lessons you need. Duffy also emphasizes the personal side of entrepreneurship, including balancing finances, relationships, and your health. Successful business endeavors depend on preparation and execution of these two key sides—and Duffy provides real-life examples and practical guidance for both. In his rapid-fire, 90-day plan, Launch! walks you The Prelaunch What it takes to get your house in order, develop your plan, and limit your personal risk every step of the way. Fueling the How to assemble your resources, pull together your team and capital, and ready your business to execute successfully. Countdown and How to bring your idea to market through partnerships, marketing initiatives, and customer-engagement strategies. As Duffy writes, “Today everyone is an entrepreneur. It’s not about building the next Virgin or Google or Facebook. It’s about planting a flag. Transforming what you are passionate about, what you are good at, into a responsible moneymaking venture that benefits others in the process. Launch! is a handbook for entrepreneurs on how to think big, take on any size competitor—and eat their lunch.”

Not for me. It didn't have any information that a person who already has a business plan needs.

If you don't have a business plan yet... maybe it's fun to read all the little 1-page stories. (They're not in-depth enough to be case studies.) OTOH, you might just want a book on how to write a biz plan and then to spend a few days nonstop with the internet.

I admit that I need help learning how to launch products. But I didn't get teh help I needed from this book.

This book regurgitates a lot of tired platitudes, cliches and obnoxious name-dropping. Let me summarize the beginning: "I know Tony Robins! I know Richard Branson! Did I mention I spent time on Richard Branson's private island?" I stopped reading shortly after his re-telling of attending a motivational seminar from Lou Holz talking about how he inspired his underdog team to win a game in 1977. Here's a sampling of what you'll learn: "Champions don't let others write their story." "Remember, the best shortcut is taking a long-term view." "Five guys working on the court together can achieve more than five talented individuals who come and go as individuals." Do people find this inspiring or in any way helpful? I was hoping for tangible steps for a product launch, and there is some of that here. But you have to wade through a lot of fluff to find remnants of an outline you could get from a Google search of "product launch template." I'm sorry I wasted any time on this book, but I hope that this review can save others from making the same mistake.

Over the years I’ve launched a few products. Rarely have I moved from idea to implementation in less than 90 days. I tend to allow things to find their own flow. The Shepherd’s Guide initially took over 6 months to get done. In publishing terms that’s not so bad. In terms of the way that Scott Duffy thinks about product launches it’s quite slow. In the new phase of business growth we’re expecting to start to generate more products and launch them in a more rapid timeframe and that’s why when my friend Heather Newman suggested that I read Launch!, I decided I needed to pick it up and see what I could do to launch products faster.

A very easy read for someone who have no idea about entrepreneurship at all, but at times forgettable and contains very generic insights.

An overview of the launch process, as the name suggests, accompanied with snippets of real life cases of people working on their ideas. Good as a general reference for any kind of idea.

Not a book for experienced entrepreneurs. But I would recommend it for people that are considering starting their own first business and has not done a carrier in a bigger company before.
