The thrilling conclusion to the Blade & Bone series, with all the fae, fantasy and magical elements fans of Romantasy will love.
"Fans of pseudo-medieval fantasy quest tales and authors like Terry Brooks, Anne McCaffrey, and Brandon Sanderson, and those looking for something to read after bingeing the Netflix show Cursed, will get a kick out of Overmyer's action-packed series." — Booklist on The Goblets Immortal
Forged is the third book in Overmyer’s Blade and Bone series.
Verve is meant to rule and unite the mortal and magical realms. There are several challenges standing in her way, however. Dacre, her former captor and greatest enemy, seeks to set up a kingdom with himself crowned as king and Verve as his queen. That is, until Verve tumbles through a portal leading to a realm from which there are no known means of escape. Now not only must she discover how to conquer a fae more powerful than she, Verve must also find a way home without being eaten by wyverns or losing her magic to a crafty siphon.
The Blade & Bone trilogy follows Verve as she navigates Letorheas, the land of Faerie, where an ancient prophecy shapes her destiny.

I can't decide whether to give the book 3 stars or 4, so I'm giving it a 3.5 to split the difference.
Here's the thing. Objectively, this book is probably closer to a 3 star in terms of quality. The characterization was better in this book than in the previous one, but aspects of the pacing were wonky and some of the situations were pretty repetitive. (For example, I got tired with how often Verve ends up in situations where she's being controlled, manipulated, etc.)
On the other hand, I devoured the story. Once I hit the 80% mark or so, I couldn't put the book down and had to finish right then and there. I was thoroughly invested.
I think my conclusion after reading this trilogy is that Beth Overmyer has a lot of promise. She could do with a bit more refining of her craft--especially in the pacing and characterization departments--but she creates interesting worlds and combines ideas I'd never thought to put together before. I'm looking forward to seeing how she grows and develops as a writer in the future.

Verve thought she had defeated Dacre but the battle has only just started. Can she escape his clutches before it is too late?
I have been looking forward to reading this book ever since I finished reading Tempered Glass because I was eager to find out what would happen next. Due to the gap between reading Tempered Glass and this book I was a little worried that I might not bond with the story but there was no need to worry. The story picks up pretty much after the events of the first book. As soon as I started to read I quickly became part of Verve’s world again and didn’t feel lost in the story at all. This was an enjoyable read and it was everything that I was hoping it would be as the last book in the series. The storyline had action, romance, it was about choices and ultimately it was about destiny, Verve’s destiny.
Verve has a lot to deal with in this book. Verve thought she had left Dacre behind at the end of the second book but she couldn’t have been more wrong because he comes back with a vengeance. Verve realises how powerful Dacre is and that it’s going to take a lot to defeat him. It’s when she is trying to escape from him that she falls through a portal to another realm called Linwood, The Sky Realm where a number of banished Fae have been sent. The only issue is that there’s no way to leave. It’s here that Verve is introduced to siphons who can take power from other Fae, which is something she’s not come across before. Verve has her work cut out for her because not only does she have to survive this new world but she also has to escape it. One of the important lessons that Verve learns in The Sky Ream is that her powers are very closely connected to her emotions and the only way that she can control her powers is to control her emotions.
Verve and Fenn’s relationship continues to grow and strengthen but its definitely a relationship that is really tested in this story. Verve has to make a decision that has a big impact on her relationship and future with Fenn. In some ways she is torn between her love for Fenn and defeating Dacre before he takes full control of the Fae Kingdom.
I have loved following Verve’s journey and watching her character develop and strengthen throughout the series. Despite many setbacks Verve never gives up and knows that the only way she will be free from Dacre is to defeat him. It’s not just Verve that Dacre has control over but all Fae. One new power that Verve starts to get to grips with is the fact that she can now shape-change so she can change her appearance to look like someone else. It was really interesting to see Verve use this for the first time to trick Dacre because she had to stay in character and pretend she was someone else.
I would describe Dacre as a classic villain not to be crossed. Initially he starts to pursue Verve by claiming he is in love with her and wants her to be his queen but he is not motivated by love. He becomes obsessed with not only owning Verve but also her power. Even when Verve falls through the portal Dacre has to find her.
The ending was brilliant. It was the perfect ending for Verve and the series.
If you love fantasy books then I’d highly recommend the Blade & Bone trilogy.
Forged is the third and final installment in the Blade & Bone trilogy, bringing readers back to the fae realm of Letorheas. The story follows Verve, who is embracing her role as the Fire Queen and continues to learn to wield her powerful magic.
In this concluding volume, Verve once again faces her persistent nemesis—the fae lord who seeks to control the land with her by his side. Along with this ongoing threat, she grapples with a binding promise to a powerful being and the daunting task of escaping a realm no one has ever escaped before.
While I hadn’t read the first two books, Forged managed to stand on its own enough to provide a satisfying conclusion to the series. The stakes feel higher here, the pace picks up, and the action intensifies, which kept me engaged throughout. Verve’s journey is full of both old and new challenges as she strives to bring peace to both the mortal and magical realms.
That said, reading the final book without the context of the earlier installments occasionally made it hard to fully appreciate the character relationships and the weight of certain plot points. But the story’s momentum and Verve’s growth kept me invested.
Overall, Forged offers a compelling and action-packed finale for fans of the series, and even newcomers can enjoy the thrilling conclusion and richly imagined world.
‘Forged’ is the triumphant finale of the ‘Blade and Bone’ trilogy. Whilst, normally I would say you could read this as a stand-alone, I think this time round you would benefit from reading the prior books. Just so you can get a better understanding of Verve and her motivations and relationships.
I loved this series and Verve will occupy a space in my list of ‘best fantasy heroines’. Yeah, she might be naive, a bit pissy at times but she is true and loyal to those she loves and she has this aura about her. Plus, her growth into her powers, life and fate, was deftly written and plotted. For the fantasy genre, this is a short book and I would have loved to have seen more of the Star Realm and more of nitty nitty-gritty of the prophecies. But if my niggle is about wanting more, that must mean I was enjoying the book!
This was an engaging and entertaining read, mainly because the worlds were rich in details, and able to be fully imagined by the reader. I think this is a universe in which you could pick new characters and easily place them in it. This was a great series and I am sad that it has come to an end.
Let me know if you pick this one up!
A personal thanks to the publisher and Beth for quoting me in the book! It was a lovely surprise.
I actually really liked this book. It was an easy read and I enjoyed all of the characters. I actually would have liked the hawthorn trees to have played a bigger part but 3 books in would require a change of direction I think. I appreciate a series and with this one you really should read the first two books before attempting the third. I tried to skip them and didn’t make it far
I can’t figure out why Dacre STILL seems to think that Verve would ever be his queen. Is he truly that delusional? 3 books of her trying to destroy him and he’s still trying to get her. I wouldn’t trust her with a 10 foot pole quite frankly. And that’s of course before she got her magic, Now I’ll stay 5-6 miles away, lol
I feel like something is missing with Fenn. I keep waiting for him to become the bad guy or maybe he’s lacking substance but he definitely needs some character development of some kind.
Overall I really liked this book and the story and plot behind it and would offer a few tweaks that would be grammatical corrections but not enough to be distracting

Forged is the third book of the Blade & Bone trilogy. It returns us to the fae realm of Letorheas where our protagonist, Verve, is facing her destiny as the Fire Queen and continuing to learn how to handle her powerful magic.
This final part once again pits Verve against her nemesis, the fae lord she can’t seem to be free from, who wishes to rule the land with Verve by his side. She also has other complications to contend with, including a binding promise to a powerful being, and finding her way out of a realm no one has ever escaped from before.
Overall, I found it to be a satisfying conclusion to the series. Verve faces old and new challenges in her attempt to bring peace to the mortal and magical realms. There is more action, the pace picks up, and the stakes are higher as the story comes to an end.

This was the last book of the trilogy. Personally this was my favorite trilogy Beth Overmyer has written. If you love stories like A Court of Thorns and Roses or the Cruel Prince, this trilogy is just for you. Some people say the characters were bland or didn’t have enough depth to them. I disagree. I was able to connect to the main character. I will say I wish there was more to read. I wish it wasn’t a trilogy and I could know some more about other characters or the world but that was because I truly enjoyed what I read. I had to have someone snap me out of reading this book multiple times to get my attention since I was swept away by what I was reading. I mainly read this book in a little over 24 hours. I recommend you give it a chance!!!
Well, all I can say is that Beth Overmyer never disappoints!
I waited ever so patiently (yet constantly checking) for the release of this book. I was lucky enough to be gifted the e-arc, and I absolutely devoured it!
Verve and Fenn🥹 and Finley! I absolutely loved the dynamic between the characters and Verve’s character growth was written so well.
What a way to end a trilogy! P.S., all three books are just as good as each other, so you definitely need to give this a read.
Thank you NetGalley and Flame Tree Press for granting me access to this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.
4.5/5 stars! I loved the first books in this trilogy and was overjoyed to get a chance to read this book. What a way to wrap up a series. I appreciated the final growth for Verve. This mixed fae elements with an almost Alice-in-wonderland energy that kept me turning the page to see what happens next. A great conclusion to a great series.
Forged concludes a trilogy that I have thoroughly enjoyed every step of the way. I love finding books like this that are satisfying and feel complete. Verve final evolution was wonderfully done, and her time after falling through the portal is probably my favorite part of the series.

I actually never read the first 2 books, I didn't see this was a third till after I recieved it. With that being said I was still able to.follow along and loved it

The story was so brilliantly written and packed full of adventure that sometimes I forgot that I was reading and I got easily lost in the Fae worlds. Everything about the novel was perfect. The author's writing is brilliant, the pacing was just right and there was a great cast of characters. I highly recommend it and I look forward to reading more by the author. 💝 Thank you to Random Things Tours, the author and publisher for my copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
