Elodie Perry is poised to be the small screen’s newest “It Girl”. Following the mega-success of the last time they worked together, it’s a no-brainer to bring her back in front of a camera with Shaw Bridges. The audience had plenty to say about their smoking hot chemistry on-screen, but their real-life romance was kept strictly behind the scenes.
The break-up too.
After avoiding each other as much as they could while running in the same circles to nourish their budding careers, they’ve landed on a call sheet together, tasked with playing a couple in love. Will that portrayal lead them back into each others’ arms, or remind them exactly why it didn’t work?
Elodie has matured from our first introduction and is now a budding superstar. She has moved on from her wild child, spoiled, insecure days and is a woman ready to stand on her own talents and not just the name of her family. She has been cast as one of the leads on a new show, opposite of Shaw her costar from her very first show and also happens to be an ex....that she really didn't want to let go. Although, it was a short I appreciated the pace and how they slowly got reacquainted. There was just enough angst, chemistry, and drama.
Elodie and Shaw made a quick revisit to give us more about their lives and their relationship. At the end of Behind the Scenes it appeared that something happened. I wish they would have spoken longer to CCJ, so that we could get all in their business. What we got was good, but....listen, don't mistake my comments as negative.. I wasn't ready for their story to end, I enjoyed it too much. 4.85 stars....
This was a short, but sweet story with an annoying slow burn. I hate slow burns and I am not a big fan of fluffy, sweet romance novels with no real angst. Mix that with the inability to pull me in as a reader or garner any emotions within me for the characters and you get a 3 star or below rating from me. Second chance tropes are one of my favorite romance tropes, but I was pretty bored with this story so I jumped sentences and sometimes a page or two just to progress forward. Lastly, having the couple finally come together in the last 2% of the book simply annoys the crap out of me. Because at that point, everything feels rushed at warped speed and leaves me, as the reader, feeling underwhelmed. This wasn’t a bad book, it just didn’t grab or hold my attention; nor did I walk away from reading this book feeling like there was something worth taking away from the story.
I was so excited to dive into this story because it’s a spinoff from one of my favorite CCJ books, Behind the Scenes. It was nice to get more of Elodie’s story. She and Shaw had great chemistry even though they tried to fight it. They had a solid friendship that provided a great foundation for a love story. I must admit that I wasn’t crazy about the way the script from their show was incorporated into the book. It threw off the flow for me. I would love to get that element as its own book, though. It sounded interesting. This turned out to be a really sweet second chance romance. It was more of a slow burn than I expected with very little spice. I liked that.
Elodie and Shaw are back together acting on a television series and trying not to make the same mistakes they made, the last time they had a secret romantic relationship!
This time add in Stella, Shaw's jealous ex hook up, and the fireworks are exploding all over the Premiere Party!
I truly enjoyed getting a taste of Shaw and Elodie’s story. Elodie and Shaw were the cutest follow up story from Pierre and Logan. I especially enjoyed the red carpet moment at the premiere.
I wanted to like this book a little more than I did. I felt like it was a little disjointed and even though it was a novella, it seemed like large chunks were missing from one chapter to the next. I did like Shaw and Elodie and the cute moments they had. Overall I give this one a 2.75/5 ⭐️. Hopefully the next book is a little better.
It was so good experiencing the growth & maturity of Elodie Perry, baby sister, to sexy Pierre Perry from Behins The Scenes. Whewww...🥵 (Focus!) This was really a true second chance romance that reconnected a couple in the right season of life. They had the opportunity for growth, healing, reflecting & learning non-toxic problem solving before rekindling. Shaw made sure Elodie and the world knew what it was before it was too late! 💜💚💛
Talk about a slow burn…it was 90% into the book before the second chance lovers even got back together.
One thing I love and appreciate in books is seeing the friendship build or sort of rebuild in their case. It makes for a better love story and you can really appreciate the characters journey once they finally get together.
The MMC & FMC had so much love for another. I wish we could have done a deeper dive and intertwined their past to the present. I’m hoping we can get an update on Elodie and Shaw in the next book. It would be nice!
I don’t typically do 1/2 stars but I think this is more of 3.5 stars for me.
What a great quick read novella! We are introduced to El and Shaw in CCJ's Behind the Scenes as they are costars in P3s show whose chemistry goes beyond acting. This story picks up two years later and CCJ does a good job filling in those gaps of what happened between these two that lead to their break up. Both are cast as the lead love interest role in a new series. What I enjoyed is seeing El (Ellie's) growth from the party girl to the serious actress and how therapy helped her see flaws the first time around. Shaw shares his thoughts on things but never stopped loving El and sees this as his second chance to make things right this go round.
Elodie was a socialite turned actress and she prided herself on being good at her craft and never going back to the person she once was. This chance to be on a great show happens but it’s opposite her former boo thang Shaw and they didn’t end on the best of terms. It’s awkward, unresolved feelings are involved and they tip toe around the elephant in the room. It’s written so well - obviously it’s CCJ! The angst, the build up, the drama and the reconciliation was top tier. Loved this read!
3.5/5 stars - A short and sweet romance. I didn't realize this novella was a spin-off of Behind the Scenes until I had begun reading. I didn't read Behind the Scenes, so some aspects of this novella felt a little disjointed. I'm not sure if reading Behind the Scenes would have filled in some of these gaps, but I think I'll circle back and read that first before picking up the rest of the novellas in this series. Read if you enjoy:

Elodie and Shaw orbit each other finally make their way together. I enjoyed that this read was a heartfelt growth second chance. The FMC, fell to the view of society said about a man like Shaw and turn on some toxic traits. They both never stopped loving each other and as the chance to be love interest in a show surfaced, so did their feelings. A great read as always from CCJ!
I previously read Behind The Scenes, so I'm coming over from that book to read more about the other characters from that book. This book was a great read and I enjoyed the storyline and how it picked up a little while after Behind the Scenes ended. If you enjoyed the first one, you'll most definitely enjoy this one as well. I'm excited to read the next book from the WAWG Studios.
I’m fairly new to the CCJ following, but I definitely am here for the long haul 😏
I enjoyed reuniting with Ellie & Shaw and seeing where they are now. I also loved that this highlights the issues around basic human decency - PLEASE RESPECT FOLKS BOUNDARIES! It doesn’t matter if someone lives in front of the camera - that is not an automatic pass for full access!
February Read: Between the Lines by Christina C. Jones ⭐️⭐️⭐️This is a second chance romance book about Elodie & Shaw. This was a spin-off from Behind the Sceens. I didn't like that part of their script as actors were in their dialog. It threw me off a bit. Elodie knew that she needed therapy as part of her healing journey so she could move forward with their relationship.
Great read, I enjoyed the characters and storyline. Ellie and Shaw are actors with history. Their new roles in a television show, put them together trying to navigate their feelings while remaining professional and friends. Ellie has worked on her issues. This is Ellie and Shaw’s second chance at love.
I was first introduced to Elodie Perry and Shaw Brooks in Behind the Scenes. They were both just starting out in the industry so there timing was off. It was great catching up with them and their next phase together. I enjoyed their journey of maturity and love. Great short story.
I would rate this a 3.75. This is a very short read, but did a good job providing substance to the main characters. The love story was predictable and but very cute. I enjoyed a different series and this book gave me an update on the Ace's security team and Logan and Pierre. The CCJ world is still a good place to be.
