Sky & Steel: Book Three of the Calenor Trilogy

Rate this book
To bend or to break is not a question we answer.

The king is dead. Kingshold has fallen. The queen has disappeared. Calenor's army, weary and defeated, is scattered across the continent.

Elian Wilding barely escaped from the blood mage Jorsten Gallas with her life, saved by the black dragon Emblem. Blood magic has not existed in centuries, and even the dragons do not know how to fight its corrupt, deadly power. Elian must either find a way to destroy the blood magic, or find the courage to fight Gallas in a battle she might not be able to win.

Elana Montaire Valentine never imagined a world without Ennis, a world where she is queen, widowed and alone. Now she must contend with scheming nobles intent on undermining her authority even as she battles her own self-doubt as a leader. With every passing day, Kade's strength grows. Elana must gather her people, common and noble alike, to fight for their kingdom.

The fate of Calenor will be decided by blood and steel, by a reluctant queen and a dragonbitten girl.

The third and last book in this trilogy and I absolutely loved reading it. The tension rises to a whole new level as more choices have to be made. Battles to be fought while still grieving those they have already lost. Allies to be found and get pulled into battle. Everyone has to step up. It was so exciting to read about and it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
And then the ending; it was so good to read and actually made me sad to leave these characters behind.

Overall, an amazing read and I can recommend the whole series if you love books with dragons but slightly different than you see in the mainstream (the good kind of different). I tried to keep this review spoiler free and that's why it is a bit vague.
