A painter in need of a model. A matchmaker seeking a subject. An arrangement that will tangle their hearts.
Fae shifter Daphne has landed the opportunity of a illustrating her favorite author’s steamy romance novels. If only she could master male physiques…and other essential anatomy. What she needs is a model. Yet how does the socially awkward fae with a tendency to bite find a man she can comfortably paint in the nude?
Self-proclaimed matchmaker Monty Phillips is a hopeless romantic, but only when it comes to others. Meddling in the love lives of strangers via his popular advice column keeps romance a safe distance away. Yet when he’s tasked with proving his tips on modern courtship work, he’ll need to step out from behind the pen and into someone’s love life.
And he knows just the perfect plaything.
The last time Daphne saw Monty, he broke her heart and discarded their friendship. Now he wants to drag her into one of his idiotic matchmaking games—where she’s the subject! But when he promises to pose as her model in exchange, she can’t refuse. At least it’s only temporary. If he’s the expert he claims to be, she can replace him with a lover in no time.
Painting sessions and flirting lessons commence, rekindling their friendship. But when instructional seduction turns their platonic spark into burning desire, will either have the courage to fan the flames?
Bridgerton meets My Fair Lady and a dash of He’s Just Not That Into You in My Feral Romance, a spicy standalone fantasy romcom in the Fae Flings and Corset Strings series. If you like fae bargains, friends-to-lovers romance, and cozy fantasy worlds, you’ll love this sizzling tale.

“Be my feral little muse, Daffy Dear, and I’ll be yours.”
i was soooo excited for daphne and monty's story and it did not disappoint!
daphne was much of a mystery in a rivalry of hearts, so we really get to know her and her backstory in this. i love our chompy little mustelid. she and wren (the stolen heir) would get along well 😂
I’ve always been good at following rules. Save for that time I bit my fellow debutante, but that was a special circumstance.
while monty is more known from book 1 as well as a dream so wicked, but we finally get the full picture here. and might i add, he gives great dating advice:
“If he disrespects you, repulses you, or loses interest, we move on. Give him a chance, but only so far as he deserves. We do not waste time on unsuitable options.”
while the deal trope to help each other out (heightened by the dating advice jealousy) was a fun plot, i really enjoyed how the two of them connected on a deeper level as friends. it was about two imperfect people finally being vulnerable and embracing each other for exactly who they are.
“You may be a fool, but you’re my fool.”
and of course there are some hilarious moments, sizzling spice, and the promise of a very intriguing next book 👀
I was a little nervous picking this up. A Rivalry of Hearts changed my brain chemistry, that book did something to me and it is still one of the best books that I have read this year. So I WAS NERVOUS that this sequel would taint or skew my perception and love for the series and the world. AND BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!
Note: 1. This can be read as a standalone, but seriously why would you do that to yourself and MISS THE MAGIC that was book 1? Also, it sets a nice foundation for who these two characters are! 2. This review is gonna be long cause I tend to not know how to hone in my crazy when I gush about a good book!
𝙎𝙮𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙨: Following the Heartbeats Tour, Monty and Daphne's relationship had formed "some type of friendship", or at least according to Daphne, it did. Unfortunately, Monty's meddling from the tour catches up with him and he gets fired. When Daphne runs into him on the day, instead of being nice to Daphne, Monty is an ass. A year later Daphne is trying to prove she can be a spicy cover illustrator. The only issue is she has spent most of her life in her Pine Marten form, so she has NO REAL clue about what the male physique looks like and really needs a male model. Luckily she runs into Monty and the two strike up a deal. Monty is desperately trying to land a publishing deal for a relationship self-help book but needs to prove that his advice works and what better subject than old Daphne dear, who besides her modelling needs, needs a relationship fast!
𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨: Seriously, Tessonja Odette not only solidified my love for this series but her WORLD and WRITING. There is something about the way she writes and her stories that just sing to my soul and give my heart squealing butterflies!
Daphne's character is incredibly cute. I adored her in A Rivalry of Hearts because she came off as cold, reserved, grumpy, and so serious. Seeing her out of her comfort zone and becoming more comfortable in her two-legged form was delightful. As she starts to explore who she is, testing the boundaries of what she’s comfortable with while staying true to her character, she becomes a little sillier. It was just adorable and showed how well the characterisation was done because she was so layered! She’s the type of character you love to read about because she goes through such exceptional growth, learning to become the best version of herself.
Monty is just as fully developed as Daphne, being equally complex and layered. He’s the kind of person who uses flirtation and witty humour as armour to protect himself from getting hurt. He’s one of those "broken characters" who is sceptical about letting people in because the minute you care about someone, they have the power to hurt you. Seeing the softer side of his character, how deeply he cares for those he loves and how hard it is for him to show those feelings while maintaining his "nothing phases me" persona, was incredibly touching. His story is heartbreaking, and you just want to hug him!
Their relationship was a journey of navigation. Monty and Daphne have a history, and their story is far from simple. They have to work through trust issues, insecurities, and their physical and mental struggles. This book strikes a perfect balance between angst and emotion while remaining witty, colourful, and vibrant. It keeps you engaged, and while there are many plot and character elements, it never feels overwhelming. You can’t help but be these two characters' biggest cheerleaders, rooting for them to succeed. Also,THEIR SEXUAL TENSION AND BANTER with Daphne being so innocent and demure and having experienced Monty who guides her... *DIES IN SQUEALS* for SMUT LESSSONSS!
Something that I love about this book (and series and world) is how well it blends fantasy and historical romance, it is just UTTERLY BRILLIANT. This is the type of gateway book that is perfect for any reader who wants to delve into either genre. It’s ideal for the fantasy reader looking to try "traditional" historical romance and vice versa—it can go either way. It captures all the propriety, behaviour, and societal expectations you’d find in a Regency romance while blending in some novel modern "fae" nuances. This dichotomy between the humans being "proper and poised" versus the fae, who are a little more "wild, risqué, and promiscuous," creates a fantastic balance. It’s very sexually forward while simultaneously reserved, and it was fascinating to see how these two worlds mix.
I just LOVE the story. I love these characters. I love this world, and I love being in the mind of Tysonja Odette. Something else I admire about her writing is that even though there are a few cameo characters who have been main characters in other books, it never feels like you’re missing out if you haven’t read their stories. They make for fantastic side characters that add depth to this story while sparking curiosity to learn what happened in their own.(Cue my TBR growing by about 10 books)
And speaking about side characters that stole the show, let's talk about that little book sprite ARAMINTA, because oh my gosh can I not wait for her book. She is the most naive, adorable, blasé, self-absorbed sweetheart and I loved the friendship between her and Daphne. It was so cute and so adorable with Daphne taking on the "mother hen" type of role in their dynamic to this "child" that's just almost woken up in this new world and has found out she has boobs. OH MY GOD the laugh-out-loud funny moments they have. Their interactions, their antics and just their adventure together were so SWEET!

ANYWAY, my fear that this would ruin my love for A Rivalry of Hearts and the world created was COMPLETELY OBLITERATED because My Feral Romance is an excellent, excellent sequel, and it just cinched that these two books are probably going to be tied for the best romanticy I’ve read in 2024.
Increadibly thank you to Tessonja Odette for my gifted copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
My Feral Romance is here!!! I am so excited for everyone to fall in love with my feral sweethearts, Daphne and Monty. I know my readers have been eager for their love story ever since A Rivalry of Hearts, where this pair first interacts. Long-time readers even remember when they first met Monty in A Dream So Wicked (from my Entangled with Fae series). His story comes full circle in Feral, and readers of A Dream So Wicked will be especially pleased by a super sweet cameo that takes place in Feral.
I hope you love My Feral Romance, and if you haven't read it yet, maybe this will help: 💛 Cozy but spicy 🩷 Friends to lovers 💛 Fae bargains 🩷 Banter forever 💛 Bridgerton Season 3 but make the mirror scene hotter 🩷 She’s a pine marten shifter 💛 He has a broken past 🩷 Romance columnist x illustrator 💛 Matchmaker falls for his client 🩷 Sweet scenes that will ruin your life and make you cry, but in a good way
My Feral Romance is available in all formats (kindle ebook, KU, paperback, and hardcover). For a long list of retailer links OR instructions on how to order this book from your local bookshop, go here: http://tessonjaodette.com/book/my-fer...
Thank you to everyone who has supported this book release! Happy reading! -Tessonja
Wow-Tessonja Odette upped the ante with the longing and angst from A Rivalry of Hearts in the newest release My Feral Romance (out December 10). This book is dual POV and has some of the best tropes you love from the romance world, the historical romance feel, and the magical world of Fae to really suck you in. The narration on the audiobook is excellent with both narrators thoroughly embodying their characters. Both protagonists feel genuine, charming and flawed and the story never feels like it’s dragging at any point. This series has two interconnected novels, and it is not necessary to have read the first before reading this one (although I’d recommend it for the experience and watching the characters grow, plus minor spoilers for book 1). I so enjoyed this series and can’t wait for more books from this author! Grateful to Dreamscape media for this ALC.
I’ve read multiple books by Tessonja, and let me just say THIS: the cozy, spicier vibe of this series is quickly becoming my favorite! 🥰🔥 While you can read this book as an interconnected standalone, I highly recommend following the series you’ll appreciate these characters SO MUCH MORE since they are introduced into the✨first book✨
The story follows Daphne, a Fae shifter with dreams of becoming an illustrator. She’s perfect for the job... except she needs a male model to brush up on anatomy. Enter Monty Phillips her former coworker who discarded their friendship, but now needs someone to test his dating theories from his book. Guess what? They both need each other. What could possibly go wrong?! 👀
The dual POV in this book adds so much charm, making it a fun, low-stakes story about partnership blurring into something more. Wink wink. Their banter and the way they communicate is so direct that trust me you will know ASAP what both of them are thinking 😏💕.
LOVE LOVE LOVE. My favorite Tessonja book to date. I freaking adored every moment of this story. Smiling ear to ear, feet kicking giggling, every page was a good time story.
Monty, a former self proclaimed matchmaker and also former heir to his family fortune has found himself in a bit of a pickle. He’s disinherited, in debt and writing love advice in a column for a paper under the pen name of a woman. His life is in shambles and he needs to sell his manuscript to pay back his debts or things are just going to get worse. He’s found a buyer for his book but they want him to have a REAL case study to put in it. As a heartless, selfish playboy of a man who could never love anyone let alone settle into a committed relationship he needs to find a subject.
Daf is a pine martin fae who fell in love with the art in the human/fae cities. She is making the transition to living a proper life and a demure proper lady in her fae form and leaving the feral life behind. She has a job as an illustrator for book covers and is ultimately adjusting. There’s just one problem- she is technically engaged to an unseelie fae from her home village. She doesn’t want to leave her city life and needs to establish a real connection to the human/fae city. The best way she can think of is to find a husband to secure her life in the new world she loves.
The two distant friends become business partners that lead into something more.
It’s a stand alone in her Fae Flings and Corset Strings series you do not need to read any book before this to understand what’s going on BUT if you have read her other books in this world (entangled with fae stand alones, fair isle trilogy, or a rivalry of hearts) then you will squeal with even more joy at the tiny references and cameos!
The Fae Flings and Corset Strings series is a new favorite!
It’s a perfect blend of regency era historical fiction + fae and fantasy + feminist and modern themes, all packed into an adorable package alongside, in depth characters, romance with tons of tension and banter, with just the right amount of the BEST spice I have ever read, great prose, fantastic relationships, and relatable struggles.
I’m officially obsessed and ready to work my way through Tessonja Odette’s entire backlist!
What’s to love… - tension and banter is top tier - lovable MCs that need help learning to love themselves! - dating lessons - bookish book (FMC illustrates romance book covers and the MC writes a sex/dating column) - interconnected standalone (absolutely can be read out of order!) - FMC that feels neurodivergent coded (I loved seeing myself in her!) - excellent prose and world-building - friends to lovers (my fav!) - slow burn
What some might not love.. - honestly there isn’t much I don’t love about this… - I don’t really care for the male narrator - but that’s a personal preference.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series!
🌶️ -2 explicit scenes, but plenty of tension and not shy about sexual comments and language.
Over the last few days, I listened to an ARC of the audiobook from @netgalley and loved it! Maybe even more than I already did. The narrators (Dani Cochrane and Rusty Mewha) fit the characters perfectly, the audio is crisp and clear - it makes for a divine experience. ______
My Feral Romance by @tessonja is a heartwarming (or maybe heartworming is more apt?), spicy tale of family secrets and fae bargains full of so much spicy tension 🥵 as these friends grow separately and together that will have you laughing over their dialogue and antics, then crying because it's just so beautiful.
This series is quickly coming to be a comfort read for me. Comfort, but make it spicy.
📖 I couldn't have loved reading My Feral Romance more. The plot is exquisitely crafted. You get twists and turns, both mental and physical, as well as a very surprising reveal, and so many chuckles along the way.
I love how Tessonja worked in mental health. Highlighting not just how it can impact the individual, but also those close to them.
✍️🏼 Tessonja writes beautifully with rich descriptions and excellent phrasing. It reads smoothly, and flows so well.
The dialogue is witty, actually funny, and fits the characters. It reads as natural.
The bookworm jokes were an excellent addition, and tie-in.
⏳️ I thought the pacing was excellent. Time for development and enrichment, but no lackadaisical meandering or pointless scenes.
🗺 The bulk of world building is in A Rivalry of Hearts, but Tessonja does expand and enrich the world beautifully. With rich descriptions and
🔮 The magic system development and explanation mostly occurs in previous installments, with this book expanding and enriching.
👥 These characters, oh how they have my heart. They're beautifully developed with intricate and interesting backstories, full of personality and nuance. No one could possibly convince me they're not real people, nor would I want anyone to even try. Let me have this, please. 😆
Ari isn't burdened by societal expectations, and I love that so much for her, and for all of us. I couldn't possibly be more excited to get her story.
💞 The friends-to-lovers romance is beautifully done. You're treated to a rekindled friendship that is wild(🦊) fun, but nothing more than good friends helping one another out. Until it's more and that kindling catches fire. 🔥
🌶 The spice is spicy! The tension builds and builds and then 💣. I love the way Tessonja built the tension up, it makes for such a fun read. The scenes are well timed and placed, as well as realistic.
📚 If you like Bridgerton (books or show), any of Tessonja's other books (A Rivalry of Hearts 😍), or the Stay A Spell (Juliette Cross) then I think you would love this.
Many thanks to @tessonjaodette for the opportunity to read this eARC and be a member of her team. All opinions expressed are my own.
such a cute read! i liked book 1 more, but this was still so good with lovable characters and a swoon-worthy slow burn romance. this author is SO good at creating chemistry between her characters that it practically jumps off the pages. i hope to make my way through more of her work in the near-future !
"Be my feral little muse, Daffy Dear, and I'll be yours."
I’m so eternally grateful to Tessonja for sending me the eARC in her series. I’ve been looking forward to Daphne and Monty’s story ever since 𝐀 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬, and 𝐌𝐲 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 did not disappoint—it’s one of my favorites this year!
Daphne, a pine marten fae shifter, is now an aspiring illustrator but lacks the expertise on the male anatomy for her cover designs. Monty has a relationship self-help book in the works but lacks real case studies that show his methods actually work. A year after their falling out, Daphne and Monty cross paths again and strike a bargain that would benefit both. Ensue art modeling sessions and lessons on dating. 🤭
I loved this book! It was so fun and cozy, yet feral and spicy. It’s also so much deeper and idk if I’m just a crybaby but I cried while reading this book. I absolutely adored Daphne and Monty, their growth, and am so proud of both of them. 🥹 The tension and longing had me swooning and kicking my feet. The candy floss??? The rain!? Eeeeek they’re just sooo cute!! Araminta was also a delightful surprise, bringing her quirky, cheeky, and lovable book sprite self. She had so many hilarious lines, I was cracking up. 🧚🏻♀️👨🏻🤝👨🏽🍫
𝐌𝐲 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 could be read as standalone, but I highly recommend reading book 1 for William and Edwina’s story.
ᴡʜᴀᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴇxᴘᴇᴄᴛ: 🥊 Bridgerton meets My Fair Lady 🎨 Friends to lovers 💖 Cozy & spicy romcom fantasy 🌦️ Dual pov
With the first book in the series (A Rivalry of Hearts) being one of my favorite books this year, I was absolutely THRILLED to receive this ARC! It did not disappoint! While I’d encourage you to read Rivalry first, My Feral Romance can be read as a standalone!
I had so much fun reading this book! It was so cute, quirky, funny, sweet, and steamy! This book was such a perfect blend of fantasy, historical romance, and rom-com. The story and its characters felt really unique! Tessonja is a master at writing subtle signs of affection/falling (think reluctant smiles, blushing, stolen glances, looking at her when she’s looking at the sky, nickname/term of endearment slips, etc.). I found myself giddy with each small indicator of them falling for each other which made it such a delicious slow-burn to read! Their banter and chemistry were excellent. This book featured several of my favorite microtropes too! 😍
I LOVED the dual POV format. She did a great job differentiating each character’s inner monologue in their respective chapters. It was so fun reading how Daphne would think about things differently or misinterpret things because she’s still unsure of human customs and behavior. It was also really fun reading Monty’s POV as he wrestled with his secrets and his growing feelings. I appreciated how the MCs helped each other learn to embrace who they are and allow themselves to be seen and loved as they are! Daphne had me giggling, Monty had me swooning, and the steaminess had me blushing. Both MCs were layered and had good individual growth arcs too!
I absolutely recommend this series of interconnected standalones for people who want to read throughly delightful cozy fantasy rom-coms! I cannot wait for book 3, Elegance and Espionage, next! 🤗
Thank you to @tesssonja for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review! 🫶
My Feral Romance is an adorable, quirky book following the two characters we didn’t get to know as well on the tour of Edwina and William: Daphne and Monte. Daphne is trying to work as an artist, and Monte is a columnist for a rather sensual part of a paper. Daphne needs someone willing to model so she can accurately draw human men, and Monte needs someone to test his romance advice on. And it all starts from there…
⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡ ⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡ ⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡
This was such a cute, easy read. Tessonja Odette laces her books with something, I swear. I’m not going to lie, this doesn’t beat out A Rivalry of Hearts for me. The premise of that book was just *chef’s kiss*. This was still a ton of fun, but I do prefer the first.
Daphne: Our pine marten turned fae. We get to see Daphne grow more comfortable in her “human” fae form, and she wrestles with the norms of human society, and what is and is not acceptable. Her character is very quirky, and her mixed with Monte was quite the laughable combo.
Monte: I adore Monte. Monte has a lot of issues he has to work through: fears, family problems, as well as a big dose of self-loathing. However, when all he has eyes for is Daphne, it’s impossible not to just absolutely adore him.
Their romance was too good. The way it all starts with him modeling for her art? 😮💨 I will say, the romance takes almost 75-80% of the book to get to the…real stuff. Up until that point, we get crumbs. And I’m not talking like a Nature Valley crunchy granola bar amount of crumbs. This is a slow, slow burn.
⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡ ⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡ ⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡
If you want a quick, easy-to-read fun romance, this is it!! But PLEASE read the first book in the series first!
5⭐️ I feel as though I have stumble upon buried treasure… Am I crazy for saying this was one of my favorite reads of the year?! 👀 This series is CRIMINALLY underrated and this book right here was a gem. This book is so well done and is the perfect cozy Romantasy read. This book is for the girlies who like fantasy but are looking for something cozy, addictive, low stakes, and romance forward. Daphne & Monty had so much chemistry I am OBSESSED with them. Both of their POVs were perfection and I adored both of their characters. Idk this book just did something for me. It’s exactly what I think of when I imagine reading for fun and cozying up with a book that will make you feel good🩷👏
Y’all I was FERAL for this slow burn romance. I freaking adore Daphne & Monty. 🥹
“𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘢 𝘩𝘶𝘨.“
THE AUDIOBOOK WAS PHENOMENAL.
Daphne had her heart broken when Monty broke off their friendship with a few cruel words. One year later Daphne is still adjusting to life in her Seelie form. Her first attempt at entering seelie society left her with deep emotional scars. Now she’s desperate to become an official illustrator at her job Fletcher-Wilson’s. She’s working on illustrated covers for her friend’s upcoming releases but she can’t seem to correctly capture a human male’s physique. Daphne decides she must find a human male to use for inspiration and to marry to save her from having to return to her unseelie hometown.
Monty is in a bind, he’s under a mountain of debt and struggle to protect his family’s secrets. If he can just get a publishing deal for his column he will get a signing bonus he can use to tackle his debt. All he has to do is help a woman form a love connection with his advice and he will have the contract. Daphne seems like the perfect candidate if he can just keep his own feelings at bay.
I was not expecting to be so emotional while reading this story but I honestly couldn’t stop myself from crying over Daphne’s past and the weight Monty has been carrying for so long. At his heart he’s just a sad little boy and I just wanted to wrap him in a hug.
“𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘬𝘪𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘶𝘴.”
This was a slow burn romance which I felt really fit with Monty & Daphne’s budding relationship. She had so much to learn and he had so much stopping him from pursuing his feelings. When the mirror seen happen I freaking MELTED. 🫠❤️🔥🪞
If you love historical romances & romantasy reads, you have to add 𝐌𝐲 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐣𝐚 𝐎𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞, to your IMMEDIATE tbr! This is my new favorite audiobook!
Thank you Tessonja for this pre-release ARC! I’m sorry I almost put “My Fetal Romance” instead of “Feral.” That would have been awkward.
I absolutely love this author. I’ve read all she’s written, and I own all of her books either on my Kindle or in paperback. She has such a beautiful writing style and the chemistry between her characters is just 👩🍳🤌🏼💋 My Feral Romance is no different!
Once friends, Monty and Daphne are now at odds. When Monty shows up a year later in need of some help, Daphne reluctantly agrees.
The project? For Monty to prove his matchmaking skills in order to score a book deal. If he can get Daphne a love-match, then he’s got the job.
Daphne is working on a different kind of deadline that needs the same outcome: if she can secure a marriage, she won’t be held to her drunken engagement back home. Instead, she’ll be able to do what she loves - painting smutty book covers for her bestie!
Daphne agrees that for every lesson Monty teaches her about matching, he will pose for one of her paintings. But tension between the two grows higher and higher, and soon, no one’s heart is safe. . TWs: mt of a drunken bond agreement (not b/w MCs), fantasy 🍃 use, childhood trauma, violence, gore, illegal fighting
“Don’t you understand? I’ll do anything for you. I’ll move heaven and earth to make you mine, and I’ll destroy anyone and anything who stands in our way.”
CUTEEEE! I loved Monty and Daphne both so much in Rivalry of Hearts and I was SO happy they got their own sweet story! This book was just so well done and amusing! I love them😭
We were ROBBED of any Edwina and William cameos, but it’s alright! I’m so ready for the next book!
I have to say, Monty reminds me of Jimin, for some reason. I feel like there are multiple songs that describe his feelings and thoughts. For example, 'Lie' and 'Alone'. It's funny because I love Jimin, and I love Monty, and I wonder if I love the latter because of its resemblance to the former.
I just love flirty characters. Me loving Monty so much proves that Tessonja Odette is an extremely skilled writer because it's so hard to make it good-flirty and not cringe-worthy.
Now, about the plot: I just have nothing bad to say about it. I love how it doesn't follow a typical course and instead adapts to the characters. Reading this author truly feels refreshing because I honestly never know what's going to happen next. It's also hilarious as always and pretty deep emotionally. I feel like it's the kind of story that would heal people with the same traumas as the MCs.
It was lovely as always to see characters from past books and meet new characters, too! I can't wait to read the next one, I'm so intrigued!
July 9th, 2024 – PRE-REVIEW I'm so excited! I already love the characters after reading A Rivalry of Hearts, so...
Once again Tessonja has firmly cemented herself as one of my all time favourite authors. I was so excited to be back in this magical world!
My Feral Romance is filled with wit, sweetness and cosiness. It’s utterly irresistible! Monty and Daphne are imperfect yet perfect together, making them relatable and endearing.
Don’t be fooled by the cosiness of this story though. There’s also plenty of spice. Honestly this story was the perfect blend of cosy and steam.
You can read this one on its own but it will help to read a Rivalry of Hearts first.
Thank you so much to the author for my review copy!
This one was slightly better than the first! Both are just lots of fun.
One thing Odette did wonderfully in both the books in this series is how well-layered the main characters are. She makes them real with several character traits and issues, and it is wonderfully done. The story was also quite fun although same as the last, the last few pages just weren't that great imo. This is just super cozy and sweet with lots of comedy. The smut is not excellent but it is such a small part of the story that it didn't bother me too much. Their chemistry is well-written and the romance parts were enough to lift this whole book up.
A Rivalry of Hearts is one of my absolute favorite books I’ve read all year and Tessonja Odette quickly became one of my all time favorite authors as I made my way through the rest of her books set in Faerwyvae. So, to say I was excited for My Feral Romance is an understatement. And this book exceeded my expectations entirely. Fae Flings and Corset Strings is a cozy fantasy series set in a victorian-inspired fae world with vibes that can only be described as Bridgerton but with magic. All of the Faerwyvae books are enchanting and sweet, but the Fae Flings series are my favorite in terms of plot. This one was so much fun and I genuinely couldn’t pick a favorite of the two if I tried. This had all of the yearning, angst, SPICE, and genuine love of the first book but with an entirely new plot and story featuring the hilarious and loveable side characters, Monty and Daphne. I loved the glimpses of their relationship shown in the first book but I seriously wasn’t ready for how amazing the romance would be. I have no words for the romance, just wow. Another unsurprising five star read from Tessonja Odette, and I will be FERAL for anything she writes in the future. (Sorry, I had to throw it in there somewhere!)
(+) - O romance! A conexão! O banter! E o maldito slow burn!
I was smiling at most times. I like that the fmc was the right kind of weird for the mmc. I was glad about the mmc's lineage in the end because I was concerned about aging and all that . It was a fun read . The right amount of spice and danger . I recommend! That prologue was funny 😂😂
Tessonja did it again with giving us such a fun pair of *idiots in love* in this cozy, friends-to-lovers fantasy romcom! Monty, our rakish and witty, self-proclaimed matchmaker is needing his next subject. Meanwhile, our cute, socially awkward pine marten fae shifter, Daphne, needs a model for her painting project. So when these two reunite after an uncomfortable falling out, they realize they can help each other with what they need. The exchange in courtship lessons and modeling sessions quickly rekindles their friendship, but could there be more sizzling under all that yummy tension? Think Bridgerton meets My Fair Lady but in a cozy fantasy world with charming fae shifters.
This was such a sweet and fun read! It took a minute for it to get going for me, but as soon as it did, I was hooked and enchanted. I love Monty and Daphne- I enjoyed seeing them grow together and anchor each other in different ways that they didn’t realize they needed. Their kindling romance was oh so sweet with just the right amount of spice. I already loved these two in the first book, and absolutely loved them even more in this book!
This is book 2 in the Fae Flings and Corset Strings series, and you will absolutely find me with the third book as soon as it’s out!
Thank you, Tessonja, for providing an advanced copy for a chance to read and review!!
Ahhhhh what a slooooooooow burn Tessonja tortured us with this time! I was so looking forward to this book after loving the setup for Daphne and Monty in the previous books, and it didn’t disappoint.
Monty is such a hot mess express! Daphne is glorious though! Her character growth over the course of these two books has been fantastic. She’s so straight forward and such a delight. I loved watching her come into her own, and most importantly take control of her own life. My FAVORITE was when she refused to let Monty hurt her. He had a lot of baggage, secrets, and self esteem to work through, and thank goodness he had Daphne to help him. Their chemistry was amazing. But did I mention Tessonja made us WORK for the payoff?! Whew I thought I wasn’t going to make it, but it was worth it! As usual, the banter was top notch and I loved the new side characters like Araminta. I can only imagine how hilarious her book will be next!
Many thanks to the author for the preview. I’d highly recommend this, just like all of her previous books! All opinions are my own.
This was a fun second installment in a series that quickly won me over. It's a historical fantasy romance with some shifter characters, fae, plus humans. This installment focuses on Monty and Daphne, who were working for the publisher putting on the author tour that was in the first book. Monty is working elsewhere now and has some secrets plaguing him. Daphne has been hired to illustrate covers for the author, Edwina, from the first book. She uses herself as a model for the female characters in her illustrations, but she doesn't have enough experience to draw men. Enter Monty, her former colleague. ! This was a charming, fast read. The female lead for the next book is introduced early on (a book sprite who takes a human form) and she's a sweet, clueless character. It'll be fun to see how this series continues.
The tensiooonnn between the MCs had me wanting to physically chew on the book. I liked this one even better than A Rivalry of Hearts, Daphne and Monty are such a perfect duo. Definitely one of the best fantasy rom-coms I've read lately, so I'd definitely recommend this one if u enjoy this genre 🙌🏻
