Divine Spark

Rate this book
Katrina thought her twenty-first birthday would just be another day of hanging out and partying with her two best friends. Instead, it’s the day everything changes. A mysterious man, a chilling encounter at a nightclub, and an explosion of magic turn Katrina’s world upside down.

Suddenly thrust into a hidden world of Power and Ancient Bloodlines, Katrina discovers that the Gods and Goddesses once thought to be mythological are very real. A world where not one but four delectable Gods claim she belongs to them.

With the weight of a forgotten legacy now resting on her shoulders, Katrina must navigate a new reality where danger lurks in the shadows, allies come with strings, and her powers are both a gift and a curse. As secrets unravel and enemies close in, Katrina must decide who she can trust and what she’s willing to sacrifice. Because the spark inside her isn’t just powerful—it’s divine.

Divine Spark is a spicy why-choose romance and is Book 1 of 3 in the Divine Academy Trilogy.

Spoilers?

This author has clearly read a lot of paranormal fated mates and RH. The knowledge of the tropes are there but the execution is most certainly not. There isn't any depth here and it's painful to read at times. Let me give some examples of surface level trope level instances here:

1) She wakes up with Miles, finds out God's are real and that she killed her best friends. Moments later she is getting her things and flirting/kissing the four guys and moving to a new room. The storyline seemed needed but lacked any emotional connection at all.
2) um everything with Samael the first few chapters. Rh tropes usually have a hot head that pisses the main FMC off and has an antagonistic relationship with her. So we just create one for no reason? He doesn't really even say anything bad and he then storms off and they are telling her to give him a chance etc. So the concept is there but the execution is horrible. They make up not even 12 hours later.

The list goes on and I. For this one honestly, but what annoyed me the most was the mean girl trope 🙄 we have like book two level arguing with the mean girl about her fated mates. And the stereotypical mean girl behavior was so bad to read. Why did we need this?

Honestly I'm annoyed with how much I didn't like this book. It was predictable, on the surface, and lacked real connection. This genre isn't just about sex, good RH has thought out plot, banter, group dynamics, and then also sex. Every facet of this was lacking in the book and with such an interesting concept that is hard.

Overall I refuse to give one star reviews because this person wrote a book and poured time into it, but that rule is the only reason this isn't a 1.

This book had potential but it felt like a mash up of several paranormal rh books I have read before. This was very “insta” - insta love, insta passion, insta forgetting I just killed my friends, it was disjointed.

It also felt like there wasn’t a lot of world building, lots of telling but no substance. I don’t know if I will pick up book 2.

If you're reading this review, you have to remember I am a ✨vibe reader✨. If I finish a book it is automatically 5 stars from me, just because I tend to lose interest fast.

Yes, this is an indie author and yes, there are a few grammatical errors. If you're judging the book solely on that, then maybe just stay away from indie Authors, or readjust your priorities.

OK, with that out of the way… I did enjoy this book and its premise. I liked the twists on the Greek gods. This isn’t my first reverse harem book, but it is the first one I’ve read with MMF & MM. The last one I read was more MFM—which this one had as well. Spice level = 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5. Yes, it brought the heat.

Yes, there were a few lines during the spicy scenes that were maybe a bit cringe, but honestly, it wasn’t a dealbreaker for me. The plot moved me right along, and I devoured this book in two days—and those two days, my husband definitely benefited from it 😂

The only thing I found myself wanting more of was character development with the FMC. I wish we could’ve seen a little more emotional devastation when her best friends died, and then a slow acceptance of her powers. But it kind of went:

"Oh no, my friends are dead? Hmm… well I have cool powers and four sexy boyfriends now. Let’s go!"

Which, look, I get it. That kind of emotional arc isn’t what this book was aiming for. And I respect that. I came for the spice and the vibes, and it delivered.

The cliffhanger at the end definitely had me clutching my metaphorical pearls. So yes, I’ll be reading book two.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐⭐️⭐️/5

If you're in the mood for something spicy with Greek gods, multiple love interests, and an easy-flow plot, this one’s worth picking up.

Wow!

What a Great book! I was thoroughly entranced. The majority of it, everything flowed naturally. Heightened emotions at the right times, and the relationships built at a speed that also felt natural even if it was quick. There was quite a bit of spice, but not to much.
The lead fmc, is living a normal life, goes to a club and sees the hottest guy she’s ever seen. He gets the fmc and her two friends (gay twin siblings who are also her coworkers) into the club without waiting in line. They get invited to the vip section which is where her life drastically changed. She blasts this pervert with white Divine magic in defense and passes out. Wakes up in Miles arms at the academy. Is told that she’s some kind of supernatural, and she killed her besties who can’t survive divine magic light. This is the only part where I felt the the emotions didn’t match the scene. Sure she was devastated to learn she killed her besties friends but basically never thought of them again. Killing someone is a big deal but can usually be forgotten about in a sense that they didn’t know them. But these were her best friends! She didn’t carry a heavy weighted burning knowing she murdered her best friends by accident.
She finds out she’s mated to the 4 heirs of the academy. All the big wigs kids. She has to deal with a mean girl who can’t seem to get over that the heir didn’t choose her over their fates. This girl spreads rumors about her being a slut and the fmc doesn’t really do anything othet than maybe punching her, I wished there was a bit of physical pay back but it’s not in this book. Maybe the next one. The rumors reach the guys parents who are king and queen of their groups. Which includes Zeus, hades and Poseidon. They all believe the rumors that girl was spreading. She’s a demon, with succubus powers with divine magic. An abomination. She meets one of the dads, and he was not impressed with her. It’s then we find out she’s the daughter of Lilith and Michael. Both archangels, Lilith being a fallen angel. They gave her up at the beginning and left her at a foster center. With a book and a letter. Explaining everything but nothing at the same time. Her dad says he’s giving her a gift and to memorize it, we think it’s the book of fairy tales involving the gods. Her mother explains they are a couple that shouldn’t be together but are and made a baby that would be killed immediately if found out. So she’s part demon part angel. One black wing and one white wing. Turns out she could have some succubi magic as her mom had succubi magic after her fall from grace. The council calls a meeting to meet her and her mates are worried that if she’s found out she will be killed immediately so Miles hides her at a safe house. At this point she’s mated to Aphelion, Miles, Samuel, and Luka who is also part demon, he’s the son of Loki. He was the newest find, and Beckett has hissy fit that his relationship with her hasn’t deepened enough for her to initiate sealing the bond with him and storms off. At this point Samuel and Loki are in the underworld looking for an elixir to stop the spread of this “etir” sludge like stuff which kinda hm bugged me that they didn’t ask the fmc to help with. Divine light can kill it but they had to do this to protect her and went on their own quest. On Beckett storming out after finding out that she mated with Luka who he hates because he’s related to Loki, he decided to head home to talk to his dad and see if he could get some answers. Turns out it was a bad idea. His dad’s eyes were saying something completely different than what he was spitting out. He wanted to hurt her after listening to the rumors. So Beckett leaves to find Ursela the sea witch that’s imprisoned in Tartarus to get some kind of potion that cloaks her demon side and gets impaled on something and almost dies. The fmc dreams that it’s her and panics thinking Beckett died. There was a lot that went on in the book and I dreaded that it had to end! Can’t wait for the next one.

So overall I’m intrigued by this book. I love stories involving gods and goddesses so I was excited to read. It does move a bit fast which I don’t really mind as long as the story is flushed out. We find out really quickly that she accidentally kills her best friends who were like family to her but I feel like she didn’t get any mourning time? She was thrust into a brand new world and it’s like she forgot about them when the guys came around. We get very brief moments where she feels guilty but that’s it. She seems to blow up over the small things which is weird, he interaction w/Samuel and their “fight” legit made no sense. Then she got mad at Miles for trying to get her to safety as if she doesn’t already know her very existence is a death wish. Like girl..do you want to live or not? You don’t know how to protect yourself. We get moments where she used her powers but is it on instinct? Has she magically learned how herself? It’s unclear. For the guys Samuel & Luka are my current favorites followed by Phil ( who’s nickname cracks me up) Miles then Beckett. Samuel seems to be the most mature and logical one along with Luka who has to be b/c he’s a teacher. Miles pouting over sharing a mate was a bit ridiculous especially since he already knew of the prophecy. Beckett prejudice was ANNOYING and even though much of it is because of his upbringing that’s no real excuse. I liked how Phil destroyed Helga’s (iykyk) stuff and stood up for his mate, I honestly thought he might’ve folded.

That cliffhanger was brutal but expected. I do plan on continuing the series because it is interesting and I need to know how this all plays out.

REVIEW!!
I was given a free copy of this book.

Ok so, the writing is easy to understand, which is nice.

And Katrina?? She’s so funny and honestly, I could totally relate to her when she saw the four of them. Like, girl… SAME!!

Jack and Jill?? I wanted more of themmm!!

Now about the four guys—

Miles is the calm one, but I love how protective and caring he is too.
Samael is angry, but also sweet?? I loved him. Gave me shadow daddy vibes.. 👀🤭
Aphelion gave me the vibe of someone who'd just be there for you when you cry and comfort you with his presence. And yeah, he’s my top 1 now, no doubt.
Becket is the carefree funny one and honestly, I need more of him too. I loved the fact that he knew he needed to correct some things.. but also took the space because of not wanting to make the situation even worse. 😭😭😭🫶

And Luca?? I'll have a Luca, thanks!! 🤭🫣🤌🫶😮‍💨

I was sooo curious about Luka and the others!! Like what was happening and why Samael felt certain things and all that. I couldn’t stop reading because I needed to know!! And when I found out.. 😮‍💨🫶😲 Seriously... I did not expect THAT!! (You'll know if you read 😜)

AND THE ENDING!! My heart?? Broken!! How could you do this to me author?? That cliffhanger was cliffhangering soooo bad!!

But fr, the author put so much thought into this book and you can see it. Hats off to you!! I feel like this series is gonna break me and fix me at the same time.

If you like multiple POVs, why choose, and drama with ALL the emotions, definitely read this!!

DNF

I made it 65 pages in before giving up. The writing is lacking so much substance and reads like a tween written fanfic. In 65 pages, we learn she grew up for nearly 18 years in an orphanage (no detail on how that experience was), her parents abandoned her but left her with a children’s storybook, a not so subtle note about her being a child that shouldn’t have been born and a $100k check (that we don’t hear what she does with, if anything at all, before we get a 3 year time jump to present day). She somehow manages to go 21 years before ever exhibiting any powers which present themselves while celebrating her bday and subsequent murders her best friends, whom she met on her first day of work and has been close to ever since (again though, no detail there). Her powers knock her out and when she eventually comes to and finds out she murdered her bffs and is now forcibly enrolled in an academy to teach her about her powers, she’s affected for all of a second before the hot guys she just met come back into the room and she’s back to being all flirty with them. Her and her fated mates have a really insta love type connection. There’s some prophecy (we’re not told what it is) that the boys have for some reason always known would be about them but our fmc upon hearing this tidbit is more focused on teasing the first guy she met about not knowing what kindergarten is…. There’s just so much missing from the writing, I couldn’t keep going.

Big NOPE

Upon reading the two line authors note, I pretty much knew I wasn’t going to enjoy this book. You cannot change well established Greek mythology just for the sake of your book.

Our FMC, 18 yo Katrina, is an orphan who lived her entire life in an orphanage. This is a trope I’m getting so sick of. If I’d known ahead of time that this was the premise and that the FMC was 18, I wouldn’t have even considered this book.

By chapter 2, this entire book has already gone off the rails for me. The twins, Jack and Jill, are crass, crude, and play into every awful gay/lesbian stereotype. It’s hella uncomfortable and way too in your face, no subtlety whatsoever, and really off putting.

There’s way too much slang used, making this book feel incredibly immature. I didn’t even make it to chapter 3. Sorry, but definitely not my thing. Did not pass the “vibe check”. Eye roll.

All smut no substance. This book idea has a lot of promise but I couldn’t get into it. The characters came across extremely shallow; there were several plot lines that don’t make sense. If you’re into smut it’s a great read, if you care about story line or character development at all, I wouldn’t recommend.

*spoilers*
I couldn’t get over the fact she killed her two best friends and had essentially no emotional reaction besides flirting and kissing men she just met. If the FMC had sociopathic tendencies it would make more sense, but she doesn’t, it’s just poor writing unfortunately.

We have multiple scenes where FMC gets and uses her new powers but it’s never discussed? Gets her wings, but who cares they’re having sex. Teleports, but who cares they’re arguing. Like I said, smut no substance and shallow characters.

I love the idea — multi mythological poly fantasy. For me I always pick substance and plot over smut and this doesn’t have the substance for me to continue the series.

Idea was good, execution was not.

I finished it but there were a few points where I almost put this book down. For one, her supposed “best friends” die, by her powers, and she doesn’t even act upset except for 0.2 seconds. Like “I murdered my best friends? Dang that sucks. I guess I have to train and learn how to use my powers and go screw 4 guys.” This book has the emotional depth of a kiddie pool. Basically the only emotions in this book is desire and petty jealousy from the men. The premise of being a child of an archangel and fallen angel and the idea that she could be destroyed is interesting. The mythology is all over the place tho. I feel like this COULD have been good, but is missing a whole lot of marks.

My favorite part of this books is the relationship between Luka and Samuel…actually a little angst and build up there that I enjoyed

Divine Spark Spoilers in review

Fairly typical of the genre, nothing much creative about it. Mythology and Gods are real. Lots of sex due to many fated mate bonds forming. Our 21 year old orphaned FMC was raised in the human world until her unique and powerful magic explodes to protect her, but kills others. She's whisked off to an academy where, surprise, she meets her royal mates. Turns out she is a product of a forbidden relationship and will be killed if found out. Some mean girl drama. She mates most of her mates in this first book. Politics and danger provide the intrigue. Pretty basic, no real depth, but grammatically correct.

A must read

This book is an absolute page turner. From the first moment we meet the little orphan, all through her discovering a world of magic there is nonstop action and intrigue. I enjoyed the writers use of gods and goddesses from different cultures and mythologies it’s brilliant and seamless.

Katrina has discovered some of her truth and her mates, but the fight is just beginning. Now they have the council to face, the sludge, and a crazy ex. All fun and games for book 2.😀

Devine Spark

Katrina being abandoned young and spending 18 yrs in an orphanage leads her to meet her best friends Jack and Jill which she accidentally kills on her 21 birthday when they take her out to celebrate. Nice her Devine gift activates she is thrust into the academy where she meets not 4 but 5 mates, but that is only the tip of the problems Katrina will face, leaving us with a doozy of a cliffhanger, 🌶️🌶️🌶️ and 🧗…

DNF at 36%

Interesting concept but read like fanfiction / wattpad. Plot moved way too fast with a lot of telling (not showing) and cringey dialogue. FMC’s best friends die in first few chapters and she basically forgets about them in 2 seconds because she finds her fated mates and immediately loves / trusts them. Lots of “you always smell so good” etc etc when they legit met a chapter before… Would highly not recommend unless quick wattpad stories are you cup of tea.

This story grabbed me from the get-go. I loved Katrina's fighting spirit and the magnetism between her and her men. Her journey is captivating, and I'm just slightly jealous of her men. I want multiple sexy gods to worship me! If you're a fan of fantasy, romance, and mythology, you'll love Divine Spark. I cannot wait for the next book to come out.

I’m fine with easy fantasy series but at least try to make it a decent story. This girl finds out about gods, discovers she has powers, kills her two best friends, and finds out she has 4 fated mates all within 24 hours and she’s just fine and dandy. What is the other three books going to be about when the entire plot is found out in the first 25% of the book.

Loved that it had Gods, Demons, demigods, and so forth. Didn’t like the FMC. Felt way too rushed. Then we got to flirting with the MMCs and I just could not. (It just doesn’t tickle my fancy and it’s okay if it does yours)
