Rolls, Real Estate, and Reunions in Nightmare, Arizona

When a despised landlord is found dead inside Nightmare’s popular bakery, Mama Dalton worries one of her friends is the prime suspect. She takes a cue from Olivia Kendrick’s amateur-sleuth success to dive into the case, bringing Olivia along with her into a world of old grudges, soured relationships, and secret back-alley meetings.

At the same time, an arsonist is at work in Nightmare, threatening the historic buildings that make the former Wild West town iconic. Olivia, Mama, and the supernatural staff at Nightmare Sanctuary Haunted House must team up to keep Nightmare safe by tracking down the guilty party.

While trying to solve the murder and stop an arsonist, Olivia is also busy helping Damien Shackleford piece together the mystery of his long-lost mother. His father would probably help, but Baxter is in no state to talk. Damien’s family is heading toward an unconventional reunion, whether he’s ready for it or not…

Body at the Bakery is book 10 in the Nightmare, Arizona paranormal cozy mystery series. This lighthearted series is about starting over, found family, and solving murders in a quirky old mining town with a secret supernatural community.

Beth Dolgner writes paranormal fiction and non-fiction. Her interest in things that go bump in the night really took off on a trip to Savannah, Georgia, so it's fitting that the Betty Boo, Ghost Hunter Series of paranormal romance novels takes place in that spooky city. Beth's young adult novels, the steampunk Manifest and the urban fantasy A Talent for Death, also have paranormal elements. Her non-fiction work includes Georgia Spirits and Specters and Everyday Voodoo.

Since Georgia is obviously on her mind, you might think Beth lives there. Well, she did, but these days she and her husband live in Berlin, Germany, with their three cats. Beth misses those mild Georgia winters and proper iced tea, but there's no reason her characters can't enjoy those things.

Beth also enjoys giving presentations on Victorian death and mourning traditions as well as Victorian Spiritualism. She has been a volunteer at an historic cemetery, a ghost tour guide and a paranormal investigator. Right now she's chronicling the best spooky spots around Europe.

This is the end of an amazing cozy paranormal mystery series and I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad. Happy because I got the epilogue I wanted and sad cause it's over. Though the author did promise us of some future stories with my favourite characters that I can't wait to read them. Until then patience and digging to the rest of this author's works that I hope are equally intriguing as this series.

I can’t believe this is the last book in the series; I’ve loved every minute of it and don’t want it to end. This series ender has Olivia and company waiting for Baxter to hatch and become a human again, and of course there’s a murder she needs to solve. This time, though, a few others chip in to help in the investigation, and it’s just so much darned fun. Again, I’m going to miss all these fun characters, and even little Lucy. A wonderful end to a much-loved series. Looking forward to what’s coming next from this excellent author. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

The last book??? Noo this is such an easy going and enjoyable series ❤️❤️ I’ve enjoyed the trips into Nightmare with its residents as the grow, solve murders and find their lost founders. Damien’s father is found and reborn. As is his mother’s consciousness. A final murder is solved and all is well.

I received a copy from Tantor Audio and voluntarily reviewed it.

Body at the Bakery is the tenth and last book in the Nightmare, Arizona series. I've really enjoyed this series and was sad to see it end, but this was a great book to wrap up the series. Body at the Bakery has the perfect blend of feeling like just another book in the series with it's own plot line and mystery, as well as wrapping up the overarching plot lines and giving every character a moment to shine.

In Body at the Bakery main character Olivia gets involved in another mystery, this time Momma is helping her a lot as the bakery owner were the dead body was found is one of her friends. The mystery was an interesting one and there was a dead body as well as arson and there were multiple suspects. I liked seeing how the mystery played out and it was fun to see Olivia solve this one with help of her friends.

This book wraps up the overarching plot line surrounding Baxter and Lucile. And the plot line about the vanishing girls and Lucy's burgeoning powers gets wrapped up satisfyingly as well. I liked how every side character had multiple scenes in which they played a role and it was fun to read about them all another time. There are also the locations around town that Olivia visited throughout the course of the series that get another visit in this one. The ending wrapped things up on a high note and was a satisfying ending for both the mystery in this book and then the series as a whole as well.

To summarize: I really enjoyed this series and am sad to see it end, but this last book in the series did a great job of wrapping up the series. This book has a new mystery and it wraps up the overarching plot lines. I felt this worked really well with making it feel like another book in the series, but also a bit more. I liked reading about the familiar characters and locations around town once more and the ending was well done and left things in a good place. The narrator for this series is great and I really enjoyed listening to the whole series. I can definitely recommend this series if you like paranormal cozy mystery series as it's one of the best I've read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – A Hauntingly Good Time in Nightmare, Arizona!

I received an advanced listener copy (thanks #Netgalley ) of #BodyattheBakery, and even as a first-time visitor to Beth Dolgner’s Nightmare, Arizona series (this is book 10!), I had no trouble settling into the quirky, supernatural charm of this desert town.

The story kicks off with a bang with a murder at the local bakery and an arsonist threatening to burn down Nightmare’s iconic historic buildings. Add in a dash of amateur sleuthing from Olivia and Mama Dalton, and you’ve got yourself a cozy mystery with just the right amount of spook and sass.

What really won me over was the found family vibe. The characters both living and… otherwise were full of personality, and I enjoyed watching Olivia balance crime-solving with helping Damien uncover the truth about his long-lost mother. The supernatural elements are light enough not to overshadow the mystery but definitely add flair, especially with the staff from the Nightmare Sanctuary Haunted House getting involved.

The narration in the ALC was easy to follow and brought the town and its citizens to life with great pacing and emotion. I really liked the narrator especially for voicing multiple characters.

Overall, this was a fast-paced, fun mystery with a spooky twist. If you’re a fan of paranormal cozies with heart, humor, and haunted houses, Body at the Bakery is worth sinking your teeth into. :)

Big Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the advanced copy! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

'Body at the Bakery' is the tenth book in the 'Nightmare, Arizona Paranormal Cozy Mysteries'.

Just like in the rest of the books, the story is short but sweet, with all the well-known characters appearing and contributing to solving the mystery, as well as progressing with their own stories, which are also interesting.

The narration of the audiobook and its production were both great as well.

The writing was, in addition, upbeat and light and the mystery well constructed.

Another fun addition to the series. While the mysteries are the main focus of each book, I have loved the continuing storyline of Baxter’s disappearance and getting to know the community; this is what keeps me coming back to the series. The mysteries are well-plotted and fun to follow along but the residents have become friends and now that I’ve caught up with the series, I will miss them until the next one (hope that there is a next one!). This is a great series but start at the beginning to really understand what is going on in town and let it all develop.

I received a copy from #NetGalley and #RBMedia for an honest review.

Awwww! What a sweet conclusion to an excellent series. I’m going to miss the sanctuary gang.

An obnoxious man is in Nightmare trying to buy up the historic properties. The bakery and general store proprietors are worried about a rent increase. And the buildings’ landlord seems to be at the center of it all. When he turns up dead Olivia and the sanctuary gang must solve the case, and keep an eye on Baxter.

The Final Act!

"Body at the Bakery" is Book 10 of Beth Dolgner's Nightmare, Arizona Paranormal Cozy Mystery series. It is, also, the final full-length novel of the series, with the author saying there may be some novellas and short stories of Nightmare, Arizona in the future. I am one sad camper, right now, because this is the ONLY series I've loved that had so many different types of paranormal characters. I will miss Olivia, Damien, psychic Mama, little psychic Lucy, psychic Vivian, vampires (Mori and Theo), pirate Malcolm, gargoyle that can fly Gunnar, fairyClara, banshee Fiona, mermaid Seraphina, werewolf Zach, the two ghosts (Tanner & McCrory), the three witches - Morgan, Madge, and Maida), chupacabra Felipe, and all the other non-paranormal characters that are all good people. I hope I remembered all the paranormal folks.

This final episode has everybody taking turns watching Baxter as a phoenix egg until it hatches, while Olivia, Damien, and Mama try to find out who murdered the mean ex-husband real estate agent inside his ex-wife's bakery. The murderer could be anyone the geezer was trying to raise their property rent payments on, or it could be somebody totally not expected. There are also fires being set in town. Are the two crimes (murder and fires) connected? Also get a look at where our ghosts all go to get re-energized. I know you'll laugh as hard as I did. Finally meet Damien's mom and dad in human form. Find out, maybe, just how old Phoenix Baxter really is. Find out why his mother, psychic Lucille, disappeared 40 years earlier when Damien was just a toddler. Find out why Baxter told Damien not to use his powers, and why Baxter built a home out of an old mine, and why he essentially child proofed it from all paranormal beings from outside the mine. I loved the relationship between the 10 year old girls, Lucy and Maida. Find out why the ghost girls from 1959 are still haunting Lucy's school playground. Get more insight into Damien and Olivia's love story.

I gave this book, as well as all others in this series, 5 big fat stars. I received an advanced reader's copy via the author and BookFunnel, and this is my honest and totally voluntary review.

We're back in Nightmare and things are happening. Well, they're on the verge of happening. I mean, Baxter's been found and is safe, but he's an egg. Which sounds a little odd when you say it until you know he's a phoenix and this is part of his life cycle. Still Sanctuary is on hard-core egg watch and all the supernaturals are excited to know Baxter might be back in their midst (as a person, not an egg) soon.

Meanwhile, there are THINGS happening in town that Olivia and the Sanctuary crew need to look into. Namely the untimely demise of the man who owns several of the buildings around town. Throw in a couple fires that threaten the buildings that make Nightmare such a draw to the tourist crowd and things are even more complicated. After all, the Sanctuary Haunted House IS a historic building and those who call it home are a little worried it might be on the arsonist's hit list.

On top of all that, Damien has found some answers to his mother's mysterious disappearance and he and Olivia are working toward figuring out if they can find a way to bring her back.

Yeah, there's a lot going on and Olivia (along with the supernaturals and humans she's come to consider family) is right in the middle of it all. If this is where the series ends, I'm pretty darn satisfied. Then again, I won't say no to more in this world because it's FUN in Nightmare.

I didn't want this book to end because I absolutely love this series!
Body at the Bakery had me hooked, the last book in the series and what a book it was. This was definitely the most satisfying finale I have ever read. It felt so bittersweet (from my side) to say goodbye to these characters that I've grown to love, but I was not disappointed with what we got. In typical fashion we had a murder, we had not only the mystery of who was the culprit but we had an arsonist to add into the mix - I was pleasantly surprised by that outcome. We got all the answers we were looking for throughout the series and we had the return of the Phoenix (Baxter). I loved the direction this novel went, I love how all the characters are like family and it's evident in how they all interact and are there for each other.
I love Beth Dolgner's writing style, I say it all the time but it's true I could read anything and everything written by her (I think I have) and still want more stories. I love how easy she makes you fall into the story and gets you hooked until the last page. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and am sad for it to be ending, but I look forward to reading whatever Beth Dolgner has lined up next.

Body at the Baker is the tenth book in Beth Dolgner's Nightmare, Arizona series. When a hated local landlord is found dead inside the local bakery Olivia and the crew must come together to try to solve the case. The town is also under threat from an arsonist that wants to burn down historical buildings. On top of the crimes Olivia's boyfriend is investigating what happened to his mother. They finally located his father Baxter but he is in his phoenix form and is unable to assist.

This is a really fun series. If you are a fan of found family and paranormal mysteries it is perfect for you. Olivia is a great fmc and I really love the relationship she has developed over time with Damien and all of the other citizens in Nightmare. I have also loved watching her magical powers progress. I enjoyed the mystery of the book. It had some interesting layers and twists. The book has a nice fast pace with a good mix of mystery and personal story. I loved the ending but I won't spoil anything about it here. I have read some of this series as ebook and some as audio. I have to say I prefer the audio. Petrea Buchard does an excellent job with the narration.

Book 10 of Nightmare, Arizona Paranormal Cozy Mysteries. I did not realize it was book 10 when I requested this audio but it did not ruin the story. I do recommend reading the first books to have more background information but if you're like me it is okay to read out of order.

The story starts out with everyone taking turns at watching the phoenix egg, but after some weird encounters with an out of town man. A body shows up in the bakery. And that person just so happens to have made a lot of people angry. This makes Oliva, Baxter and mama looking into the murder (not as official police but as people who want to know what happened).

You also get some more background information on other paranormal happenings throughout town and how this relates to humans. Perfect series for YA audience looking for a fun paranormal story.

I received an advance review copy audio version. Thank you to NetGalley and Tantor Audio, for the opportunity to listen to this book. Petrea Burchard did an amazing job narrating this audiobook.

The Body at the Bakery by Beth Dolgner
A Nightmare Arizona Paranormal Cozy, book 10
Narrator, Petrea Burchard
The extended part of the title is almost as long as the book. Just kidding but is an approximately five hour audiobook as are most of the other books in the series. This is the last book according to other reviewers although there was no big conclusion as to what happens in the characters lives after this. Since is the only book in the series that I have read I wasn’t very invested in the characters but some longtime readers might care more.
It was a cute paranormal story with mild romance and a minor mystery with a lot of paranormal beings. It was interesting enough to while away an afternoon but not sure I would go back to read earlier books.
Narration by Petrea Burchard was excellent as always. I have to say that she was the main reason I requested this audiobook because I am familiar with her from the Mrs. Plansky books Spencer Quinn and I really like her work.
Overall an okay book which longtime readers of this series would probably appreciate more.

I was given an advanced reader copy of this work in audiobook format via Netgalley free of charge in return for an honest review.

The narration is excellent and really brings the world of the story to life as well as giving each character their own manner of speaking and voice.

I didnt know that this was book ten in the serries and normally I would have just said " Sorry I cant review this " but something told me that it wouldn't be a problem. I am happy to report that something was right.

And so i found myself in Nightmare Arizona. A Western town with a thriving history that brings in the tourist and plays host to a wide array of supernatural creatures. This quirky town soon won me over and I couldnt wait to explore and get to know about its residents.

I was settling in when a body was discovered and a firestarter decided it was time for some practice. Things got more intresting as the story built.

This is a perfect cozy mystery and its very well written and I enjoyed it very much.

Perfect read for a lazy evening or the run up to Halloween.

So many twists and turns in this last book of the series. But everything wraps up nicely.
There is still a murder to investigate but along the way a few other ghosts were helped.
One of the underlying themes is about found family. And pretty much everyone at the sanctuary are part of the extended found family. Their differences brought them together and they became a family that supports one another without question.
Each of the couples that got together over the span of the series seemed to be happy even if we don't know for sure they live HEA.
And as always Olivia was the one to solve the murder.
I am sad to see this series end. I know that there will be more great stories to come from the author. If you have not read her other series I strongly recommend you do. She does a great job of setting the story, making you believe in her characters and all that they can do, and then wrapping it all up. There were never any cliffhanger endings.

everyone needs a Chupacabra….and maybe a Phoenix

This series has been interesting. The paranormals aren’t evil and they accept people into their lives as part of their family. Olivia who is recently divorced is trying to get somewhere else but her car poops out in Nightmare Arizona.
Olivia starts thinking very hard about what she really wants to happen. A safe place to live that she can afford, a job, simply normal survival instincts. Suddenly things begin to change for Olivia, for the positive. All the things she wished for starts coming true. Not on any grand scale but in a way that makes her begin to notice her good luck.
These books are so fun and the walk you through Olivia’s life in Nightmare Az. Meeting people who care for her and who change her life in so many different ways.
This is a very fun series. Must read in order written. I look forward to more by this author.

Nightmare is a town where there is a whole lot of strange thing going on which really keeps things interesting. Baxter is still in his phoenix form and there's know way of knowing when that will end. There's a really, really obnoxious rich man going around wanting to buy up properties including Nightmare Sanctuary.

There's also three young ghosts at the playground that Lucy gets more involved with and there's a landlord who is really, really hated and keeps raising rents. You've also got fires in buildings but they have their own strangeness.

So, the group has to find out who is setting the fires and why and at the same time keeping an eye on Baxter-phoenix, waiting for when he will change from his bird form back to his human form.

I really enjoy this series. It has rather unusual characters that have formed their own family, in a way, and they work well together to solve any mysteries that arise.

I’m both absolutely satisfied with this final book and equally dissatisfied with the fact it is the final book.
Per normal, things aren’t quiet in Nightmare. First there is a body found at the favourite bakery, then there is arson, fights between townspeople and a rich, obnoxious person who wants to buy everything including the Sanctuary.
While all that is going on, the gang is waiting for Baxter to hatch, taking Lucy to a magical pond to help with her powers all wrapped up in a good little mystery.
This is a fun book, showing a lot of the powers that the different characters have. The closeness of everyone and how well they work together.
There is magic, mystery, suspense, surprises and humour.
This was a great series and I will reread it as well as anything else that might come out with this town and characters.
Highly recommend.

Good

The final Nightmare, Arizona book brings an end to numerous dangling story ends, as well as the new murder mystery Olivia finds herself entangled with, when a body is discovered at Mama's favourite bakery.
Between that murder, and the excitement surrounding Damien's father Baxter, there's a lot going on in Nightmare!
All's well that ends well though, and longtime readers of the series will find themselves feeling both satisfied, and a little sad to let these enjoyable characters go.
This is obviously not a standalone story, but it's well worth reading the rest of the series, which is an entertaining paranormal cosy mystery series, with an unusual setting and a whole host of fun characters.
The books are quick reads, and fairly light-hearted for the most part, and one paranormal cosy fans will enjoy.

Many mystery solutions!
Olivia Kendrick is feeling at home in Nightmare. She has made many friends among her coworkers and members of the community. Her relationship with her boss Damien is doing well both personally and mystically. With the return of Baxter spirits are running high at sanctuary. When a well despised local landlord is murdered at everyone's favorite bakery, someone is setting fires to historical buildings, and a developer is in town trying to buy up many of the local old buildings there is many things to try and clear up. A fine story that wraps many of the long running threads in this series as well as further developing many characters make this an excellent read. Hopefully there will be some more stories for these interesting characters.

I had such a blast returning back to Nightmare, Arizona. There's greedy business owners, pretentious buyers, a murder mystery, and will Baxter ever return to us? Several unsolved mysteries that finally get resolved in this book. Olivia is on the case and somehow she just manages to be at the right spot at the right time. I loved going through the rabbit holes and solving the investigations with Olivia and her friends. The ghosts are always fun to see how they come to life in this series. They always make me giggle. The narrator, Petrea Burchard does a wonderful job portraying Olivia and her friends. The tones and inflections were spot on. I was hooked from the very first chapter. Mostly everything was wrapped up nicely. This is a great conclusion to the series.

A very special thanks to Netgalley + Tantor Audio for the gifted ALC.

This was an enjoyable cozy mystery with supernatural elements. It was well narrated.

This is the 10th book in the Nightmare, Arizona Paranormal Cozy Mystery series. Admittedly I haven't read the rest in the series having only discovered this recently via an eARC Audiobook on NetGalley, but it was a good standalone. Would reading the rest of the series help? Probably, but I still got to know the characters well throughout this book.

There were elements of romance, mystery and paranormal creatures living in a small town in Arizona. I liked the variety of paranormal beings in this story, and the interplay between them.

I also liked the subplot with the vanishing girls and how that was solved so they can be at peace.

Thank you NetGalley, the author and Tantor Audio for the opportunity to listen to an eARC audiobook copy of this book. It was brilliantly narrated by Petrea Burchard.

Audiobook: I enjoyed this book as much as the others in the series. I liked how each book contained its own mystery, which I had fun trying to work through the clues to solve, but there was one underlying mystery which was referenced in each of the books, and this book wrapped up that mystery. I was entertained by all the paranormal characters which populated this series. I appreciated the new definition of family which was one of the creative twists which guided this series. I recommend this series without reservations. I have enjoyed Petrea Burchard's narration as her performance has kept my attention and enhanced my enjoyment of the series. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

Body at the Bakery was such a cute read. This paranormal mystery starts off with everyone watching a phoenix egg waiting for it to hatch. After a body is found in the bakery, Olivia steps up to solve the mystery of who did it. I did not realize this was book 10 of a series when I requested the audiobook on NetGalley, but Beth Dolgner does a good job at providing background information on the other paranormal characters/stories from the other books.

I didn't realize this was a book in an interconnected series when I jumped on the opportunity to listen to this, it sounded interesting and I didn't think to look more into it. I'm glad it is part of a series though because now I can go back and check out the others. It wasn't confusing and I was able to catch onto everything super easily from the start. The characters are fantastic, I love the banter and how you get the found family feel from them.

The story for this book involves a murder at a bakery, and we follow Olivia as she tries to solve the case. She isn't alone in this endeavor which makes it much more of a fun read, and it gives such a cozy mystery vibe. I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to dive more into Nightmare, Arizona and Beth Dolgner's other works.

Come visit Nightmare Arizona where you’ll find a mix of human problems and paranormal people/entities.
Olivia is happily working at the Sanctuary and waiting for a special egg to hatch when she witnesses an argument between a landlord and renter. The next day the landlord is dead.
The book is a lovely mix of character interactions, paranormal moments and sleuthing.
Olivia solves the case before the police.
I enjoyed the narration of the audiobook.
I have only read one other book in the series but didn’t feel lost in the storyline. Check out Nightmare, Arizona if you get the chance and like paranormal stories.

Body at the Bakery is the final book in Beth Dolgner’s Nightmare, Arizona cozy paranormal mystery series. It is an absolutely fitting ending to a fantastic series. The epilogue is wonderful and brings the series long plotlines to a great conclusion. Beth Dolgner has taken Olivia and the reader on a wild ride as Olivia goes from a broke, transient woman escaping a bad past. It was so much fun watching her adapt to the paranormal world and create a found family. The mysteries in each book have been fun and I am not sure I ever guessed correctly. You can probably tell that I highly recommend this series!

Narrator Patrea Burchard performed the entire series. She does a fantastic job and I highly recommend the audiobooks.
