Fascinating insight into the life of an Aboriginal woman who worked as a drover in NSW and Queensland as a young woman, raised a large family and initiated Aboriginal education programs in schools and TAFEs in her later life in the 1980s. It tells the story of a girl who was traumatised by her parent's separation when she was eleven, so much so that she became self-reliant to the point where she wouldn't accept help from others even when it was freely offered. As she gets older, she learns to both speak up for herself and to trust others, leading to a rich life of community service. Told with humour and compassion. It would be great to see this book reprinted. Highly recommended.
