The Trial is over—but the war has only just begun. Cerilla, once the Moon Realm’s chosen, believed her soulbond to Sebastian would heal a fractured world. But in the aftermath of the Trial, she learns just how far each realm will go to protect their own legacy. With the Moon and Earth realms aligned against her, betrayal runs as deep as blood—and it seems the fates are far from finished with her. As more secrets reveal themselves, Cerilla and Sebastian must fight for a love that could either save the Realm or shatter it. Blessed with the luck of his lineage, Baylor has never struggled to win battles—or hearts. But now he longs for something beyond hollow victories and courtly dalliances. He never sought glory—only peace, and someone who could see the man beneath the scars. In Marianna, he may have found both. For once, he thinks luck might finally be on his side—until he learns her father’s plans to marry her off to a male of far higher title than he. Scorned by the gods, stripped of his title, and abandoned by the only female who ever truly saw him, Callahan now suffers in the shadow of his defeat. But power and prestige call to him—and this time, he won’t be so easily denied. Love and legacy collide in a battle for the future of the Realm in a land where the elements divide kingdoms and the children of gods walk the earth. Can love conquer fate—or will destiny once more demand its price in blood?
I could not start this book fast enough! After reading the first book, Era of the Moon, I had to have more of Sebastian and Cerilla and not only did I get that but there is Baylor too and Baylor has easily become my favorite character. He is so caring, protective, loyal, and sensitive.
Baylor cares so much for his friends that have become his family. I absolutely love how his and Mari’s relationship evolves from the time we meet them together and even before, when they were children. From the start, I wanted them to be endgame but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t on the edge of my seat when Callahan started coming around in search for Ceri, talk about red flags! I am looking forward to seeing what is in store for Callahan though. I have some theories about a particular priestess and I’m dying to know if I’m right!
I was so happy to see the development within the sun dominion and their views toward Ceri as their queen. and I hope we do get to see her and Sebastian’s relationship continue to develop in future books!
Rise of the Sun is the second installment in the dawn and dusk series.

The Trial is over—but the war has only just begun. ⚔️
I met this local author at Cincinnati Comic Expo one year, and she promoted the first book as Avatar the Last Airbender, but if Katara and Zuko actually ended up together. I was immediately interested, and I adored the first book, so I was very excited to get to read this ARC.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book starts with a bang... literally. 😂 I'm so happy we got more of Sebastian and Ceri throughout this book as they navigate the ramifications of their bond, ruiling their realm, and deciphering the goddesses' prophecy. Baylor, though 😍 I love him so much more after reading his story.
The world building gets way more intense in this book (and I have a strong feeling I need to read some of her other books based on a conversation with a particular prince/king). I have so many questions going into the next book. Mainly, what the heck is going on with Callahan?!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5 Wow I genuinely loved this. The last 10% was so fucking stressful. 😂 This is a story about men who can’t take no for an answer. And one man who understands forbidden love and takes no as the answer before asking the question. 😂
The slow burn / forbidden romance between Baylor and Marianna is delicious. So slow and then worth every second of agony when it finally gets there.
This author does a really good job of weaving multiple plot lines together. Cerilla and Bash have drama with her dad and Callahan, meanwhile Baylor and Marianna have a “will they, won’t they” forbidden love thing happening. And then there’s a mention of an issue with the map (no spoilers, I swear). These are all different plot lines and yet the story doesn’t feel like it bounces around.
I also really enjoy getting multiple POVs, even from the bad guys. I’m starting to feel bad for Callahan…?
Without giving anything away, several of the plot lines in this book are very unique and I really like that. Baylor and Marianna is your feel good forbidden romance, but everything else isn’t something I’ve seen before.
Petition for all books to have a recap of the previous books in the series. Why is this not the norm???
There’s gonna be a third book right?? I would love to see a Callahan and Aysha love story / redemption arc. And also a map. 😂
Thank you so so much to the author for giving me an arc of this book!
I have been anticipating book 2 of the Dawn and Dusk series for YEARS, and the wait was WORTH IT! There were multiple POV’s that the reader could easily keep track of and each POV was integral to the story. I couldn’t put this book down and was always excited for my adult responsibilities for the day to be over so I could. If you haven’t read book 1, Era of the Moon, I highly recommend you do!
Enjoyed the first book a lot, however this book took me so long to read! The second half of the book picked up a bit but a lot of the first half of the book wasn’t needed or slowed the pace of the storyline. It followed on from the first book nicely but I found it quite boring in comparison!
