There are many tails in the world: rat tails, cat tails, skinny tales and fat tales – But the only ones worth speakin' of...
...the only ones worth tellin'...
...are the tall tales. The legends.
Ariana is a young girl who dreams of becoming the greatest pirate to sail the seas. Driven by stories of the mysteries Pirate Queen Anne Bonnie she heard as a child, Ariana steals an enchanted ship and sets off on a journey filled with adventure, friendship, magic and (of course) pirates! Along the way, Ariana will learn what it truly means to be a pirate and uncover some secrets about herself that she never would've imagined.
Fantastic art by Tim Yates and Tony Vassallo. The expressions on each of the characters' faces were beautifully drawn, colored and detailed.
Overall, I thought Anne Bonnie was a cute little piece that was just lacking something. Maybe because I was expecting a story similar to Bloody Jack, I was a bit disappointed. I'm not sure if this comic is ongoing or not, but either way, I feel like the plot and the characters weren't developed to the extent I would've liked and there were just too many questions and loose ends by the time this first volume was finished.
I recommend Anne Bonnie to those who like a cute pirate story and who won't get hung up on some missing details.
A terrific pirate yarn! I picked this up at MegaCon2016, and am glad I took a chance. Great story, great art, and I'm looking forward to reading the next one!
I really enjoyed reading the first volume (Issue 1-6) of this pirate story and am hoping a new one comes up soon. The storytelling is fun, full of adventure, magic and mystery. The fantasy world making is brimming with wonders and surprises. The best part is the bubbly characterization of the lead, Ariana, she is a juvenile charming force of nature. The other supporting characters along are great bringing in intrigue, mystery and muscles to offer us a full package.
The art is superb, it might seem a bit cartoonish but it suits the storytelling. The comic is for all ages, even young ones so some adults might find it to be on the kiddish side.
I only read up to issue 9 because it changes writer after that, but it’s not very good.
My biggest problem is that Arianna is selfish and annoying and makes selfish and stupid decisions that get everybody else but her hurt, and then faces no consequences and never learns from her actions. No character development at all. I’m sure she would have if the story continued but I don’t know what’s going on with the release schedule.
Regardless, I didn’t like this very much at all. I thought it was boring, derivative, and unfulfilling in every way. It’s not even a full story in any sense of the word.
at first i was disappointed that this wasn't the real Anne Bonney (a favorite of mine), but then i got over myself and i really enjoyed the storytelling and art. a fun, modern, yet historical tale with lots of magic and elves and pirates!
I try to read all the comics I buy the niece and nephew, and this was SUCH fun! Best parts: a derpy Phoenix who keeps getting itself killed, and a muscle bound pirate lady who kicks supreme ass. Playful and empowering and well drawn. Win!
