Blackfriar

Rate this book
'Blackfriar' is a contemporary, neo-gothic murder mystery set in Edinburgh. Laced with black humour, it tells the atmospheric tale of Chrissie Dewar - a strong but embittered ex-Catholic police detective - who is struggling to find her missing sister, catch a serial killer and salvage her abandoned faith.
As the spectre of a black-hooded killer looms large on the streets of Scotland's capital - and the legend of the Blackfriar ghost permeates the sinister subterranean vaults of the 'Old Town' - Chrissie embarks on a blood-soaked journey into the heart of darkness. What she discovers there will change her world forever.

DS Chrissie. Dewar is looking for her missing sister, Marian, a tour guide in the tombs, which are inhabited by the ghost of the Black Friar from eight hundred years ago. But there seems to be a killer roaming the streets of Edinburgh. Then there is sex-trafficker Tam Mackinnon to deal with.
An enjoyable modern gothic murder mystery

A good read

Reminded me of early James Herbert books at the start, then came into a life of its own. Good sense of humour and a very good story; well done.
