What must it take for a devoted Skin Walker Sentry to find his angel? York McDonnough is willing to sacrifice everything for a mate he doesn’t have. While his fellow Walkers fear the idea of being tied to one female for life, York longs for it. Dejected and heart sick, he accepts a retrieval mission that takes him far from home and brings him face to face with his long-awaited fate. The instant York sees Sky, the Walker affliction sets in and melts the ice that has hardened his heart. York’s mission shifts from retrieval to rescue when Skin Walker enemies attempt to take York’s mate before he can even touch her. Willing to die for her, he’s more eager to kill to protect her.

Sky Brookes is searching for her sister in a foreign land when she’s abducted by a handsome stranger. York claims he’s rescuing her, but last time she checked white knights didn’t drug the damsel in distress and haul them off. Besides, Sky’s too tough to need anyone’s help. She’ll find her sister on her own even if York refuses to leave her side. Cocky and independent, Sky’s got it all figured out until she encounters a strange species that mistakenly think she’s the key to something called Skin Walker procreation. Reluctantly, she’ll have to rely on York for protection. When Sky discovers that York is a Skin Walker, her fear and anger threaten to take her from York before he’s even had a chance to claim her.

My pack territory is in Central Montana, between Stone Crow Estates and the North Fortress. Born and raised in an untamed location that bridges the gap between rolling prairies and majestic mountain peaks, I am born to a family that also bridges the gap between cultures. My father’s people boast a fiercely proud Scandinavian ancestry while my mother’s tribes descend from two savagely beautiful and unique nations (White Clay and Nakoda) that inspire my Skin Walker series.

I'm a huge fan of MMA, boxing, 30 Seconds to Mars, DMX, Nahko and Medicine for the People, and 21 Pilots (“…sometimes quiet is violent”). I also love to read because it encourages me to write. (I hate it when authors add that they love coffee and chocolate. Really? Who doesn't love coffee and chocolate?) Anyway, I love beer...kidding. I don't love beer but we are engaged in a very serious relationship. (Mom, please don't call me when you read this.)

Holy crap Sky is a bitch. That's pretty much the best thing I can say about her :P I was looking forward to this book because I like York's character and while I still like him, I also feel sorry for him.

Bliler sets Sky up as this character who is supposed to be similar to Aries from book #5 but she really isn't. She starts off looking pretty cool but quickly turns into a petulant whiny child when she spends too long in a hotel room. Apparently she doesn't appreciate the fact that York has work or that there's danger, so instead she basically screws York because she's bored. Then, after this, she's demanding to go outside. Because she's bored. He tries to impress upon her that there's danger but she isn't willing to believe him. Basically Sky does a lot of yelling and disbelieving of York. When he winds up being forced to leave her behind (like seriously forced to do so under great duress and only after he's extracted a promise from the guys surrounding them that they won't hurt her) all she can think about is that he isn't coming back. From the beginning he's called her his heart, told her he loves her and basically worshiped her but she can't be bothered to think beyond herself. She even has a mini melt down when she finds out he was paid to find her. Uh...yeah. Duh. Her sister asked him to find her, it's not like York knew Sky. I guess he could've found her out of the kindness of his heart but so what? He didn't. There's no reason to freak out and think he only had sex with her to amuse himself because he was paid to find her. It's just a weird conclusion to jump to :P If the two of them had known each other previously and had a few kisses or something and then he turns up hunting her down and being paid for the job then okay, I can get behind the hurt feelings but being upset over a stranger doing his job and basically finding his mate accidentally (as he explains to her) is stupid on Sky's part and contrived. Then she goes off on a pity party about how she's always lived in her sister's shadow and how she thought Shy was soooo talented until one day she realized she really wasn't she wasn't "that much better than me. I was just that much less than her" right. That makes perfect sense. Totes. And then the whole "a guy I was engaged to dumped me for her". Ooh boy. I'm not really sure I believed that because Shy was sort of set up to be a "shy" character. Unless douche bag fiance didn't like the loud brashness of Sky I'm not seeing Shy as the type that stands out especially if they're identical sisters. Honestly good riddance to bad rubbish. If he's going to dump you for your sister he's not worth it. Better to find out now then after you marry him and who the hell is that insecure that she doesn't introduce her bf to her family before they're engaged? Maybe Shy isn't the problem, maybe you're messed up and can't get your shit together so you blame your twin because it's way easier than admitting that your personality sucks balls. Even her interactions with her sister are messed up. She really isn't ready for a relationship because she can't sort her own shit out and is too willing to cast blame on others around her rather than take a good long look at her stupidity and sort herself out. Instead Sky harps on how Shy "went to college", "she got an internship", "She's always put together" and Sky isn't. Well, all of those things are pretty solvable. It sounds to me like Sky is equally upset and proud of their differences. On the one hand she wishes she could accomplish these things but on the other hand, not doing them has given her some sort of identity that is separate from Shy--even if that separation is somehow shameful to her. She's just all kinds of messed up. And I love how she adds that she picks fights with people twice her size and how she won't follow orders and let York do all the dirty work. Honey, please sit the fuck down. You can't fight your way out of a paper bag. Your great contribution while York was in trouble (because you basically insisted on him taking you out to hunt the baddies) was to make a bunch of noise and attracted the baddies. You couldn't even follow his directions and get the hell out of the way when they attacked. You are useless as freak in a dangerous situation. It doesn't make you sound cool when you claim you like to pick fights it just makes you look like a moron who is lucky to still be alive :P

Was I surprised that it came out that York had thought Shy may have been his mate and Sky was hurt? No. I probably would've been hurt too but I also would've wondered a bit if being twins and similar genetically that that was what made York feel like Shy may have been his mate. I would've asked him to make sure that he hadn't just "settled" on the next best thing with a similar face. I am shocked, however, that James and Shane don't attempt to follow her or mention anything to York when Sky takes off. Um, so did we change the whole protect other Walker's Angela's thing? I'm pretty sure that in the last few books any time a female did this sort of distressed runner their mate was contacted or another Walker went after her to slow her down and protect her. Why not now?

Beyond that we meet some pretty damn creepy new Keeper guys that I honestly don't want to read about at all because the majority of the Keepers we're introduced to have no problem with rape or forcing a female to become their "mates" and losing those females in dominance battles...which is just not cool. Their idea of claiming a mate is "pounding" their seed into a female. Also it sounds like women have little to no say in anything that goes on in their society. I do find it really freakin weird that after hearing this revelation King orders all the females rounded up and sent to cells to be guarded from what I thought I read as only 5 of these Keepers arriving to form an alliance. Overkill much? Maybe rather than treating the women like criminals and locking them up you could just, oh I don't know, watch the dangerous creeps and make sure they don't get near a female!? Maybe it's better not to lock up your females in actual jail cells where they'll be easier pickings! Gah. Even if there wasn't 5 of these guys, there are still more females then there are these visitors. Monitor the visitors (you should be doing this anyway!) and make sure that the women are warned about these guys and their behavior. I'm also a little unsure as to why they want an alliance with these guys at all. Leave them in the Philippines, don't bring raping assholes onto US soil or set them up near your territory. That's just inviting trouble into your own homes.

Yeah, overall, not my favorite book in the series by far.

My favorite color

How exciting! Big Red finally got his HEA! York is absolutely one of my favorite characters. I love that he wants his Angel and that connection to another human being. Plus he is steadfast and soft hearted, just an all around great guy. And how can you not love the brash, sassy, mess that is Sky. The differences to her twin really enhance the story and her character, making for a mating that was a fun journey to read. I can’t wait to see what the author does with the newest players. I just know it’s bound to be amazing.

This book was so good, filled with so much emotion. Both characters looking and wanting the same thing.. such a great read..
York was about to give up on finding his "Angel" his "One", he was starting to question if he was even lovable ... the woman he wanted to claim already belonged to another skinwalker, needing to get away York offered to search for her sister. Once he found the sister in the Philippines, at first sight he realized she was his "Angel" he has finally found his "One".
Sky was searching for her sister in the Philippines where she was told she went to work, not believing that said story she went searching for her cause she knew something was wrong.
Sky has always felt second best, never trusting others, shadow of her twin.. all she has wanted was to be loved...

Re-read this book in about 4 hours. Was a very emotional book, full of longing and finding self worth. Both York and Sky want to be loved for just themselves and struggle to find it. Had me tearing up with the intensity of their longing, and the missteps that keep them apart.
Editing still not up to par with the quality of this book. Timeline is off and there was difficulty keeping the Shy and Sky separate. Was very jarring in the moment.
Off to re-read the next in the series

Wow, this was riveting and our female heroine was awesome, York was wonderful to and it was nice seeing a softer skin Walker. We meet a new entity which opens up a whole new extension. Interesting storyline, still with the base core story but the books story was a little different but really holds your interest. For best reading read in order.

Disappointed

I looked forward to York's story. It started off great. Fast and a lot going on. Then the female went from strong kickass to crying a son story. Very disappointed.

As was very sharply pointed out to me, I made a HORRIFIC ERROR in this review.... I referenced "Gauge" as Shy's mate, not, as was correct, "Leto." As I had just finished both Gauge and York, Yes, I made a mistake. Did I mean to? No. Did I do it purposely to hurt anyone? Again, NO. My apologies for any confusion.
______________________________

OK, here is my little secret. Shhh..... don't tell anyone, but I rarely ever, indeed if I ever do at all, fall head-over-heels for the hero in anyone's book. Nope. Not me. Oh, I may drool a little, but hey, who doesn't?

"Just what I always wanted. My own little bunny rabbit. I will name him George, and I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him... ...and pat him and pet him and... and rub him and caress him and..." - Hugo the Abominable Snowman in the 1961 cartoon The Abominable Snow Rabbit

York is my definition of the perfect male. Tall, muscled, with gorgeous eyes and red hair all the way down to his ass and his beautiful bod covered with tattoos . . . yummers! An Irish God, in the flesh. Sigh...(OK, laugh. Go ahead. I can take it . . .)

Anyway, back to the storyline, right? This is the sixth volume in the Skin Walkers series by Susan Bliler, and it is just as good as the others. Things have been building up for the Skin Walkers of StoneCrow Estates, a private sanctuary where Skin Walkers can live safely in a dangerous world. And dangerous their world is. For no one knows of Skin Walkers in this world, and no one should - for anyone different, as we all well know, is subject to horrors. Especially the Walkers, for there are creatures more terrible than one can imagine - and they hunt the Walkers, for their heads, for their "halos" - the equivalent of an antler which grows naturally around their necks. And for their powers, which they steal by drinking a Walker's blood. Vicious cowards, the Megalya, soulless and insane, prey on the women and children of the Walkers, those too weak or too small to defend themselves.

In this difficult world, all York has ever wanted is his Angel -his life mate and soul partner. Hurting and alone after the incidents in Gauge: Skin Walkers #5, York takes an assignment from Mason StoneCrow to travel to the Philippines in order to attempt a rescue of Leto's mate's sister. While Leto's Shy was held with Leto in a Megalya research facility, Sky, her twin, has been searching the Philippines where she has been told she might find Shy.

As York arrives in Quezon, the capital city, he searches far and wide, until he comes upon Sky in an out-of-the way bar. Watching Sky take down a strange, blond man with fists and feet, York is immediately stricken with "The Affliction" the Skin Walker ailment which is brought on by finding his one true mate. As he writhes on the ground in agony, Sky is off like a shot, escaping the myriad police officers who come pouring through the back door.

York can find her, now he has her scent, but others can too - and not just the Megalya. And none of Sky's pursuers, other than York, have her best interests at heart. York finds his Angel, but when his Angel finds out what York is, and what creatures are following her (and why) this becomes an edge-of-the-seat thriller just as much as it can be labeled a Paranormal Romance.

Susan has really found her stride with the last few Skin Walker books, and as she comes into York and Sky's story, suspense and thriller aspects of the Skin Walkers tales are become even more intense.

YORK!SKY!YORK!SKY!YORK!SKY!

AHHHHHH!!!!!!

Yet again Susan Bliler has topped of her Walker Series with another mind boggaling book! Absolutely loved how the Celtic walker finally gets his turn- and there couldn't of been a better mate for him :D

Sky is the absolute opposite of Shy so I instantly loved her badassery as I like to call it and her independent stance she has. Through the book there was no faults with Sky and i believe her to be one of the best walker mates!! At the start of the book we see her as a very hard independent woman who was on the search for her sister, and then she finally met her match (YORK!!) The tummy walker instantly blew her away like he would do with anyone with his walker ways and his big gooey heart. Sky's character grows really well throughout the book and we see her soft spot that she has for York but we also see her vulnerable side that plays a big part in the end (which i can't spoil!) However through the book we see the sazzaling chemistry York and Sky have and I know i felt such relief for York to find such a good mate.

York's character grows to throughout the book but constantly you see his devoted love for his mate and the desire he felt to have one. I think that was one of the best things about this book as York was built up through other books and I felt so bad for him no having a mate, so the book was great in the way its finally gave him one! I love the Celtic warrior and his loyalty to his kind and his mate and you really get a sense of the loneliness he felt throughout his life :(

The next major thing for me was the first real action scene with the Megalyga!! As the first time in the books the first described contact scene was absolutely intense for me. It was done perfectly though as we get a real show on the walkers strength how how kick ass they can be! One of the worst things in the book for me is what the Megalyga do and it finally hits you in this book, so for me it was really sad!

DU DU DUUUU! There's also the new species that have arrived in the books. The keepers as they are called in York and as described in Monroe they are definitely 'rough around the edges'! I recommend you read it as soon as possible though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! However I think the Keepers will play a big role in the series but really exited to see how they're put into the books and the parts they will play in them . Overall one of the best Susan has written and OMG Redknife is next ahahhhhahhah (soooo exited) !!!!!!!! I have been waiting for Redknife for so long and if you buy York you'll get a glimpse into the book so If I were you I you get it now and find out what you've been missing out on!!!!!!! Become a Susan Bliler Stalker :D

FINALLY!!!!

I have been DYING for York's story since we were introduced to him in Conn's which was technically the first released in this series. I know Susan did some changing around with the order, which is fine, but whatever. SIX BOOKS LATER AND I WAS NO DISAPPOINTED (nor i am ever going to stop reading Susan's stuff)

Song Choice: "Atlantis" by Ellie Goulding, "All Of Me" by John Legend

First thoughts: YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!! this is what I have been waiting for!! I loved that action, the romance, I love that this wasn't like the other boys who were all pouty about having found their angel, York who so deserved one forevers finally got his girl!! AHHH YAY!!! I am so happy for him its a bit ridiculous....of course the whole time I kept muttering...he should have been mine...and he should have been mine. :( *pouts*

Thoughts on Plot: EEEP!! I have missed the action in these series and boy did I get it in this one!! Not only do old enemies appear, but new creatures show up and damn if I don't want to know more about them, to find out if they are allies or enemies, if they are allies, are they getting their own series? if they are enemies are they getting their own series? ;) The romance between York and Sky wasn't rushed nor did it feel forced. I really yeah... I love York, and omgosh!! He is a dirty talker!!! TMI....SORRY. Anyways excellent it moved really well, and I couldn't put it down! well besides when i WASN'T ;) reading it at work and had to set it down to take care of costumers even then i wanted to pick it right back up and continue on!!!

Characters:

York: well if you haven't caught on I am in love with this man, I have been forever, I mean what more do you want? Not only is a sweetheart, but he has a tragic past, but it doesn't define him, he is a flaming red-head, built, tattoos, originally from Ireland, did I meant dirty talker? MOTHER OF ALL THINGS JUST GIVE HIM TO ME ALREADY!!!

Sky: If you don't know is Shy's twin sister, and like most twins (i can honestly say this because i am a twin) is nothing like her twin, they just happen to look a lot a like. Sky is bad-ass and isn't afraid to admit that she can and will take care of herself, but she also knows when she is over her head which i appreciate. She has insecurities and I loved her all the more for it because it made her feel really, real to me. I really liked her as an MC

The ending: Awesome.
also REDKNIFE NEXT?!?!?! YES??!?!?! YES?!?!?!?! YESSSSS!!!!!

York, the 6th book in the series brings so much more to the plot and the whole picture.

York, was the only Walker who actively looked for and desired his angel. What a sweet guy. He was so lucky to finally find Sky to discover that she is physically identical to his former crush Shy. I am glad the similarities ended with the physical part. Sky was feisty and spirited but emotionally broken by her need to be far from her sister's shadow. And because of that she was one annoying heroine.
There were times when I wanted to scream at her to pay attention to York and see his love but hey, that's the story.
There are more details on the enemies and a new ally - not a fan of them but I am curious to see how the series continues.

This was an awesome book and I truly love this series because the books have thriller and romance and I love how they complement each other really nicely. the books doesn't get boring and always keeps me on my toes and this is why I really like the books, also in this book I really enjoyed learning bout the characters. I love York and how he was in love with Sky, he was fighting for his love for a long time and finally he got the love and the family happiness in the end.

description

This was such a good book that I couldn't put it down
description

I don't know how to describe the feeling that you have when you read about a character, that is soooooooooooooooooo determined to find his mate and when he finally does, he fights against the whole world to keep her safe.
description

And the part when he was trying really hard to prove to her that she was his and no one take her away from him............ IT WAS MAGICAL

York wants to take care of his woman, but at times she makes it hard so he has to throw down his iron fist, "yes. I do. I know that if you don't get that pretty little a** in that bathroom and in that tub, then I'm going to strip you bare myself and carry you in there. It's your choice Sky. Are you bathing alone or shall I join you?" If you upset his woman you get an angry York, which can be sometimes fun but it's not good, "still holding Sky, York turned a snarl ad the ruling Keeper. "You are frightening my Angel. I understand you're accustomed to dealing with mere humans. I am not one. Stop threatening what's mine before the scent of her distress forces me to action." Sometimes Sky has to assure her man that he's what she wants, "I want you, you big friggin' idiot!" She punched his chest, and the constriction on her heart eased when a grin tweaked his lips. "Of course I want you! Look at you. You're stunning, and strong, and you take better care of me than I do myself!" I love this series and I can't wait for more.

York was fab, Sky not so much but I overall really good!

The book didn't seem to have as much meat as others in the series, but, York is such a sweetie that you don't notice. Unlike our previous Skin Walkers, he wants his mate, he can't wait to meet his angel and give his halo to her. Having had no one his whole life, he just wants to belong to someone and have them love him back.

It wasn't a big stretch to realize that he felt something for Shy but she wasn't his, and the fact she had a twin out there, solidified who York would be afflicted by. Trouble is, she isn't all that likable or nice, I think she was supposed to come across as strong, but she was just a bitch to him. Of course, when she needed something, she was sweet as pie, and even after he pours his heart out to her, she rejects him

Luckily she doesn't take up much space on the pages and sweet, strong York overshadows her until she finally turns things around, and he gets his HEA!

4 1/2 stars. I really enjoyed this one. I thought it was an excellent addition to the series. York behaved pretty much the way I expected, so it was nice not to be disappointed on that aspect. Sky was a great heroine. I thought she was a nice combination of strong and vulnerable. York messes up a few times, and I liked how Sky did not make it easy for him. I also enjoyed the introduction of the new characters. We don't know yet if they are allies or enemies to the Skin-Walker race. It will be interesting to see how that plays out. There is an implied HFN, with no epilogue. It leaves the reader with unanswered questions--not enough to be annoying, but just enough to peak interest for the next book (which will have a new couple)

Great book, great story, great characters.

Two people who need to be loved for the people they are. Sky is a human woman searching for her sister. Big Red (York) is a skin walker sent to find Sky and bring her to her sister. But evil has found Sky first and Big Red must ensure her safety and find a way to secure her love. Neither are easy tasks. I really liked Big Red. He is a strong man who is gentle with the woman he loves. But I felt for him because he needed to be loved so badly, but it just never seemed to happen for him. I kept wanting him to have everything his heart desired. I guess that is one of the things that make a great author. Writing characters that readers fall in love with.

I love the Skin Walkers series and had anxiously looked forward to York's story. While happy for York's HEA, I had a hard time with his Angel, Sky. Sky's the exact opposite of her twin Shy, and is supposed to be badass, but I found her to be possibly my least favorite heroine in the series thus far. The continuous misunderstanding, feet stomping tantrums made her more whiny shrew than heroine for me. The introduction of the new unknown species will be interesting as we learn if they are Skin Walker friend or foe.

Overall, this was not my favorite in the series, but still a series worth reading.

Another great read

Another great read

I love how this author places the books in her own back yard. The love she feels for her home is reflected in the words. Her characters are all well rounded and are different in their own way. The struggles in each of the books of her Skin Walkers series are unique on a personal level to each character but are all forced on their common goal. Sky and York were no exception. I am a fan of the series and am happy to see York find his peace of heaven.

The books were a good series but only six available good reads shows twelve e they are advertised out of order so I didn't know which was first king was one but Conn was published first it three I in between king and Conn but cannot find to purchase unless they are going to be released at a random order which I hate getting book five before three etc etc it throws everything off because events happen in the books and it should of happened a book ago and a person can get lost

Good read

I enjoyed this book...but I am not certain I like the new species brought in with story. I cannot tell if she wants them to be good guys or bad...to me they are not much better than the species who are the enemies of the Walkers. Her Redknife story should clarify the situation, at least I hope it does. I do not like being left waiting to find out who is good or bad...I prefer books that have closure.

Interesting addition to the series

I like the Skywalker and it was very enlightening to see them compared to the keepers. York is a wonderful hero, because he is so flawed and willing to show his needs. The heroine annoys only because she cannot see what is right in front of her. I see a serious clash with the keepers coming I hope.

good read

Really enjoyed this book. Loved York and sky. Love how they both had the same insecurity and how they work to overcome it. I really enjoy how sky was tuff in the outside but was a really Woman in the inside. Great book
