Runaway Ranch #3

Burn the Wild

Rate this book
As the reigning country-pop princess, I’ve had everything this life has to offer, especially fame and fortune. But not what really matters. A minute to catch my breath and reevaluate my life. So when my world comes crashing down, I run to a place where no one knows me. A small mountain town where I can hide from my past.

Only I don’t get far. My first day in town, I’m assigned a babysitter.

Ford Montgomery.

A man who drives me crazy with his rude, broody attitude and his backward baseball caps. A man who’s my new boss for the summer. A wild, rugged cowboy straight out of one of my songs. Hard body and gorgeous face included.

But beneath the dirty mouth and the sexy smirk, there’s a pain in his eyes that matches my own.

As the summer heats up, passion sparks and we connect—on the ranch and in the bedroom. Ford shows me friendship, makes me laugh, but most importantly, we see each other’s scars and want one another anyway.

For the first time in my life, I know where I belong. In his arms.

The stage might be calling me, but my heart says it’s with Ford.

But there’s a price to pay for wanting this new life of mine. My past is watching. Ready and waiting to take my newfound freedom and love and snuff it out…for good.

Hands down my favorite book in the series.. this was SO GOOD!!

I’m going to be honest I was a bit worried because I typically don’t love pop star trope but this was done so freaking well. This was beyond emotional and had some really tough topics that just simply broke my heart.

I loved Reese and Fords back and forth banter. The grumpy/ annoyance to love was immaculate.

Also the way they first meet where Ford is hitchhiking and Reese is speeding by in the black Mustang will forever be etched in my brain.

“Kissing Reese is like soaking my soul in gas and setting my heart on fire.”

4.5⭐
- small town / cowboy
- pop star
- on the run
- age gap
- ex baseball player
- grumpy MMC
- annoyance to love
- emotional topics
- a touch of suspense

Ava Hunter is easily one of my favorite small town romances! This is definiltey only the grittier side of her romances and I loved every second of it.

Both Reese and Ford have really rough pasts, so when Reese shows up on the ranch still very much broken, all Ford sees is a spoiled diva who is just there to annoy him. He quickly sees something of himself in her, though, and they slowly start to fall for each other. I loved when they lowered their walls and fell SO HARD. The Runaway Ranch setting is just so healing and so perfect for the two of them. My heart hurt so badly for Reese and I was so happy she was able to find that peace and help she so desperately needed. And Ford!?! That man is FINEEEEEE. Anytime he showed up in a backwards baseball hat I melted into a puddle.

I just love this series so much and if you want a small town romance series with swoony romances, infuriatingly charming and damaged heroes, and a bit of suspense thrown in, you HAVE to read this series!!

3.7 Rounded to 4⭐️

This review contains spoilers.

I enjoyed this one, although I don't like the MMC who loved someone else before the FMC (it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth) but this author made it work for me (again).

This may be a personal preference but the whole thing with “the H’s type” was cringe and I didn't like it. Other than that everything was cute.
______

Safety:

— Age gap (11) : H (37) / h (26)
— Cowboy x Country singer
— Dislike to friends with benefits to lovers
— Suicide attempt (the h in the past)
— Depression (the h / the H in the past)
— No virgins :
~ The h is an alcoholic and had a lot of sex (mostly drunk), her life is toxic because of her manager.
~ Reformed manwhore / The H celibate for 2 years.
— OMD/OWD (see note)
— No cheating
— 3rd act break up (one week), neither have been with anyone
— Pushing from both
— HEA
______

Note :

— OM :

~ The book begins with the h waking up next to another man (no details). She's not with anyone after that.
~ She was flirting with another guy at a bar (she was drunk). There were other guys who touched her but the H took care of them.
~ Her manager caused a lot of trouble.

— OW :

~ Seven years ago the H was in love with his ex-girlfriend Savannah and was ready to start a family with her, but she broke his heart which caused some issues for him. He couldn't really move on for the past 7 years because he was still broken and angry (he had depression, took drugs and slept with a lot of women after breaking up with his ex. He stopped doing these things two years before the book started) He doesn't love her anymore but as you know he's broken and doesn't believe in love anymore blah blah, until he met the h.

(To be clear: The h isn’t second best at all, what he feels for her is different and deeper than what he has ever felt for anyone else and he said that the h is the love of his life).

~ His ex texted him three times but he ignored her (this was the first time she texted him since their breakup, she wanted to know if he would accept the job her father offered him).
At the 83% mark, she shows up because she wants a second chance with the H 😒. The H didn’t care about her at all and told her that her rejection of him was the best thing that ever happened to him (tbh all of this was unnecessary! She didn't cause any real drama, she just appeared for a short scene and then disappeared forever).

— The H was an asshole with the h at the first 20% because he thought she was like his ex! He regretted being a jerk to her so he pulled the stick out of his ass and became a better man with her and from there their relationship started to develop into something more.
(His relationship with the h was cute and the chemistry between them was good. I liked how they helped each other out of their darkness and were each other's light. I really liked them together).

The H’s past with his ex :

Savannah.
A lawyer, blonde, bright, beautiful. We were opposites. She was a good girl who had her shit together. I was a southern boy bumming around on a baseball field. But I loved her. I loved taking her out and showing her off. Our song was George Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” and on late nights she’d lean over to me in bed and whisper, “It can’t get better than this, Ford.”
We dated for three years before I popped the question. Planned it out to a fucking tee. Even asked Jim for his permission. During our warm-up, I brought her onto the field, because Savannah loved spectacle. Drama. Anything she wanted, I wanted to give it to her. I got down on one knee. With my heart hammering in my chest, I pulled out a ring.
Only…
She said no.
“I can’t, Ford.”
“You need time, I get it.”
I tried to touch her, but she stopped me. “I don’t need time.” Her pretty face screwed up. “I need someone else. Someone better. You’re—you’re white trash, Ford. You’re not here.” She held her hand to a spot below her heart. “It was supposed to be fun. Not forever.”
Fuck. That hurt.
It all fucking hurt.
It hit at once like a lightning strike. Everything clicked, though it was about three years too late. She wasn’t the one. Never once did she go home with me to Georgia. The way she’d micromanage every little thing I wore, especially when we went to one of her fucking parties. How she hated when I wasn’t with her but wasn’t happy when I was. The way we never had good days. They were either amazing or awful—so high or so fucking low. It was never good enough.
I was never good enough.
It was all a waste of time. A waste of my heart.
Love can’t be trusted because it’s never real. It’s all a bomb waiting to blow up.
After Savannah ended things, I was in a new stage of grief. The woman I loved left me. I felt everything closing in on me. The life I had worked so hard for—gone. I said cheers to all my troubles. Too much alcohol. Too many pills. All I wanted was a warm body and a cold beer.

The H about the h :

“Other than my twin, I’ve never had a connection to someone like this. A soul-deep burn that exists only with Reese.”

“It’s never been like this with anyone but you”

“She is a home I’ve never had. Not down in Georgia, not with Savannah. Not even with my brothers. Reese breathed her own kind of life into me with her first high-heeled stomp onto the ranch. Strutted her way into my fucking heart.”

“Reese rests in my arms. She faces me, head on my chest, blonde curls blowing in the wind. Never had anything more beautiful. More precious.”

“My dream girl,” he murmurs, kissing my palm with exquisite care. “You and me, meant to be.”

“Something inside me feels changed. Wrecked. Like it’ll never be the same. I’m alive because of Reese. Through it all, I never doubted her. I trusted her. A level of trust I’ve only had with my brothers.”

“This fucking woman. I never thought a woman could hold my heart and break my soul, but here I am. Broken. In love. Whipped.
So damn natural. So damn easy. ”

“ Need more Reese. Need her closer. Pressed to my heart, my bones. That bond I felt from the second we met. Incomparable. Insatiable.”

“I have to tell her I love her. That I don’t remember what my world felt like without her.

“For so long, Runaway Ranch felt like a tentative place to land until I figured it out. Watching out for my brothers, watching out for my heart. But with Reese, it feels like home. The three short months we’ve been together matter more than the three years I spent with Savannah.
I love this life, and I don’t have to change it to be happy. I have the ranch. I have baseball. All I need to do is add to it. And that’s Reese. The biggest, brightest part of my life. A friend, a lover—a soulmate. I’m a goddamn sap for that girl.”

“Around her, I don’t own any part of my heart anymore. I don’t even own myself. She does.”

“she’s the most amazing woman that I’ve ever known. She forces me to be better.”

================

Self note so i can remember (from the previous book):

About (Ford):

It seems that his book will contain some ex-issues/drama🤔

“Is this what you did with Charlie?” I snarl, anger slowly burning inside of me. “Warning him away from Ruby, telling him she had her secrets, and he was going to get hurt?”
“You’re an asshole,” Ford snaps.
“And you have to get a new MO, Ford. You have to get over the past and stop bringing everyone down with you.”
**********
“I told y’all once and I’ll tell you again. You gotta keep your head on a goddamn swivel when it comes to a woman.”
**********
“The song on the jukebox changes to the sounds of George Jones singing about loving a good woman until he dies.
My boots screech to a halt. “Fuck.”
That song. It’s the equivalent of dropping an atom bomb on Ford’s heart.”
**********
“Every time I hear that song, I think of Savannah. And when I think of Savannah, I think of that goddamn kid. I can’t hear that song without wanting to put my fist through something.”
Ford picks up a baseball and tosses it up in the air, then catches it again. There are things people never heal from. Ford’s taken more than his fair share of heartbreak in life, and I’ll never forgive the woman who broke my brother’s heart.
“Savannah…”
He flaps his hand. “Me and Savannah could have gone either way, D.” A hard edge laces his drawl. “She wasn’t the one.”

Einfach WOW

this is two stars, not in a bad way but in an insane way

romantic suspense is not a genre i like but i keep picking them up for some reason. TELL ME TO STOP. i wanted to pick thins up because reese is a country singer who is escaping from her shitty manager and i was feeling like a singer romance. sadly the only word to explain this book is insanity. like the trauma that the people go through in these books is insane. ford and reese also are incapable of calling each other by their own names. nicknames are cute but that doesn't mean they need to be said every time they speak to each other. also "country boy" is horrifying as a nickname because of the fucking vine. i genuinely cannot imagine that being said without the vine playing in my head.

also its important to mention the potential there was with reese's character. she had so much healing to do and she needed a safe space. in my opinion they got together wayyyy to soon. if this book was a bit more of a slow burn, it would've been rated higher because it would've felt like ford cared about her getting better. i know he did but it didn't always read like that.

if you look romantic suspense you'd probably like this. its a bit insane, as i've said eight thousand times, but i guess it was okay... idk

Burn the Wild by Ava Hunter absolutely wrecked me in the best way. This third book was so good and easily my favorite of the series so far.

I deeply appreciated the representation of depression through Reese. Her struggle felt raw, honest, and incredibly real. Watching her navigate the heaviness of it all and slowly work through her pain was beautiful and handled with so much care. It never felt glossed over or romanticized. It felt true.

And Ford? We finally get to see his softer side, which was such a powerful contrast to how we’ve known him in the previous books. He’s carrying his own grief and struggles, and finally learning why he is the way he is was truly eye opening. Seeing both Reese and Ford grow through their separate griefs together is exactly my kind of emotional slow burn.

Also, if you know me, you know acts of care are my kryptonite. And yes. He washed her fucking hair. During a depressive episode. If that doesn’t tell you everything you need to know about this book, I don’t know what will.

Overall, this book was emotional, tender, and healing in all the right ways. I would highly recommend this entire series, but Burn the Wild especially will stick with me for a long time.

A little over the top at times, and I'm not sure if the alcoholism theme was researched super thoroughly, but the romance was very good and built upon a solid connection between two well-formed characters. And the themes regarding mental health and abuse were very well researched and important for (particularly female) readers to hear. I really enjoyed this and I'm looking forward to the next book! Although it's been built up so much at this point I'm a little worried my expectations will be too high.

@authoravahunter has become one of my favorite authors in the last few years. This series Runaway Ranch is easily in my top 2 favorite series!

Burn The Wild is the perfect blend of romance and suspense. Reese and Ford were absolutely perfect for each other. Both with bad pasts come together and find away to overcome and grow. There's banter and a swoony cowboy was more could you want?

I love getting to see snippets of past characters. There's so much love and family ties that it just warms your heart. I can't wait to see what comes next!

Thank you Ava for the gifted arc!

I’ve been dying to learn more about Ford since meeting him in previous books and oh my lord this man y’all. He has been through it and so has Reese so their story was super emotional, complicated and absolutely beautiful. They have a very rough start and don’t understand each other at all, he presents as a grumpy and cocky asshole and she is a spoiled, sassy princess but that’s just a front they both put on to protect themselves. When they finally open up to each other beautiful transformations take place and that’s where this one got really emotional and deep. A deeply personal storyline for Ford and Reese and gorgeous writing from the author made for a spellbinding read. Add in some danger and intensity and I was sooo hooked. I always love being back on Runaway Ranch and checking in with Ruby and Charlie and Dakota and Davis, it feels like catching up with old friends. If you like celebrity, cowboy, fantastic mental health rep, age gap, small town and suspense this was soooo good! But make sure you read the first two books as well, the entire series is one of my faves.

I recommend checking out the TW before reading, because there some heavy topics discussed in this book.

Reese is a country music star. Her life is a mess, full of drugs and alcohol, and she's in a minute from mental break down. She's caged by her manager and she's completely unhappy. So she needs a place to lie down. And this is how she got to Runaway Ranch.

Reese's story is so heartbreaking. She doesn't deserved what happened to her. I want to give all the hugs to her😭
Ford, the man you are❤️ His attitude to Reese is delicious. And how he was treating her when she was depressed. My favorite Montgomery brother was Charlie, but now Ford is definitely my first choice. He's also a cat daddy :)

Speaking about family, I love the Montgomery brothers, their bond and how they always have each other backs❤️ And their girls also formed a pretty good sisterhood :)

This series is amazing, I can't wait to read Wyatt and Fallon story!

This book was phenomenal! I feel like this series keeps getting better and better. There are some very heavy topics discussed in this book- I would recommend checking out TWs if that sentence gives you pause. That being said this is a book of almost a resurrection of a soul. Ava did an AMAZING job touching on these harder subjects. We had two people that were polar opposites and started out as not really enemies but definitely loathing each other. But there was a bit of forced proximity at work. And Ava worked her magic. Reese was in a terrible spiral. She couldn't find her way out of her situation. She knew she didn't like it but not what she needed. Watching Ford help nurture her back to health was unbelievable gratifying. Ford was also on the other side of heartbreak and tragedy. Feeling worthless. These two were at a crossroads and found each other at the right time. While Ford was nurturing Reese, she was waking Ford up. She was showing him the kind of man she saw him as. They were enjoying the little things together. I absolutely loved the touch her and die vibes coming from not just Ford but all of the Davis brothers (eventually). I also loved how Reese resonated with what Fallon was going through.

Reese can't see her way out anymore. She is drunk all the time. She feels tired all the time. She can make zero decisions. She doesn't even realize what she is doing one night when she walks away from the stage. She doesn't realize how much she needed a lifeline until Grady Davis gives it to her. He gives her his car and tells her to go to his family's ranch. She can hide out there for a while. She expects his brothers to be like him. What she gets is a hot cowboy with a mean attitude judging her by the cover without giving her a shred of a chance. This was a mistake. She will figure things out. But then she realizes her money has been blocked from her. She literally has nowhere to go. So she asks her broody cowboy for a job. She is surprised when not only does he say yes but she will be working with him. She is surprised when she finds herself not wanting a drink or to forget. She is surprised at how attracted she is to this man who she is starting to realize is genuinely GOOD. She goes the friend route to be safe. He helps her do a lot of basic things she has never done before. He does things for her that no one in her life has. Could it be that he is feeling these things she is feeling? Things happen between them in the most delicious way. And it all feels so natural. And like home. But there is a time limit- the end of summer. Then they will go their separate ways...at least that's what they are saying. But in the meantime, Reese can't help but feel like someone is watching her. She is getting nasty messages from her manager. She needs more time to sort out some things but what she doesn't know is time is not what she has. When her nightmare becomes a reality, she can only hope that Ford knows how she feels and that he comes for her before it is too late.

Ford is at a crossroads of sorts. He works on the ranch but really to be close to family. He doesn't have anything for just HIM. So when he gets an offer from his ex's dad- he starts considering what that could look like. But then SHE shows up. The project his little brother sent him for the summer. She is wearing the tiniest of clothes he has ever seen and high heels...on a ranch. She is hot as sin. But he can't tell her that. She has this attitude of no cares given. But then he starts to realize he may be wrong about her. He starts to realize she seems lost and lonely. She has more money than god and everyone in the country knows her music but what is she doing her? She ends up asking for a job and he does it. As much as he fights it, he helps her. He finds himself investing in her. He finds himself hunting for those little smiles he gets. All the while her walls are up on why she is here. So he starts telling her about his past. He starts opening up to her. He gives in the attraction and it is EVERYTHING to him. He has never felt like this. But she puts the label for them as friends. Ok he can deal with that until she catches up. He doesn't want things to end between them at the end of the summer. When she is around things just feel right. When she finally opens up about her past he is absolutely floored at what all she has overcome. She is much stronger than he thought. He just has to help her see that. He has to help her understand that he is not using her for something. He is here to stay. She is his endgame. But her past is creeping in. And it strikes when no one is expecting it too. He can't be too late for her- she is his world.

This book made me feel so many things. I loved the family banter and the snippets we got of Davis/Koty and Ruby & Charlie. I was literally eating up allll the bits for Wyatt and Fallon- are they next?? I loved the sass that Reese gave Ford even though she had no confidence. I loved the buildup of chemistry between these two. I loved how protective everyone in this family is for everyone. I loved how Ford wouldn't give up or walk away when Reese pushed him. I was absolutely heart broken and disgusted at what all Reese had endured at the hands of her manager. Very Britney like. I loved how mental health was talked about openly and as a necessity. No shame. I just LOVE these characters. I found myself hunting for pictures of what these two and the others could look like- found some on Ava's insta. If you haven't picked up this series, I definitely recommend it! Ava makes you wait for the steam but the build up and tension is WORTH it while you fall in love with her characters and their lives.

Thank you to Ava for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!!

Burn the Wild is the third book in the Runaway Ranch series. This series has been so good, definitely my favorites from this author! They do all have pretty heavy themes in them so definitely check CW. This one is an age gap, cowboy (former baseball player) x country-pop singer, heroine-in-danger, small town romance.

Reese and Ford, Country Boy and Birdie. The story kicks off with Reese struggling. She’s a famous country-pop singer who is being taken advantage of by her manager and everyone around her, she wants out and ends up running away (thanks to her opening act who gives her his car and tells her to go to his family’s ranch). She arrives in Montana at Runaway Ranch and is to be looked after by Ford, who is somewhat grumpy at first. Reese and Ford both have a lot of trauma in their pasts and connect quickly. I was really enjoying this one! There are a few too many things thrown in towards the end that made it feel like too much/too over the top, but otherwise another solid addition to the series! The family and ranch setting is so good.

CW: themes of suicide and suicidal ideation as well as depression, alcoholism, and drug abuse. There are mentions of pregnancy, infertility, parental abandonment. There are scenes that feature stabbing, stalking and violence, as well as the death of a horse due to injuries associated with foaling.

No but I adored this book. Yes I say it a lot but this is a legit adoration. Ava did a phenomenal job of this book and I will shout about it from the rooftops for many, many moons.

Ford and Reese’s story is SO heartbreakingly beautiful, gritty and raw that you just cannot help being absolutely consumed. Ford and Reese both have their struggles and Ava did a wonder job of handling these heavy topics. The mental health representation in this book alone deserves 5 stars.

Reese was such a stand out FMC for me. She wad desperate to start living for herself after being manipulated for the bulk of her life. Seeing her come into her own, fighting for herself and being happy was SO special.

The growth of their relationship was one of my favourite parts of this book! The tension and chemistry between them was palpable from the beginning and I loved their banter, as well as the emotional moments. The way Ford and Reese supported each other just blew me away, I was so proud of them both. The strength of their connection was so evident in their support of one another. They have my whole heart. The suspense aspect of this too kept my toes, turning those pages. I adored this book, and the epilogue was so special. My husband said to me “why are you crying?”

Highly recommend this series if you love small town ranch life with morally grey cowboys and fiercely loyal women!

Add to your tbr if you like:
- small town romance
- Ex baseball player MMC
- Country music superstar FMC
- Age gap (F26 / M37)
- Boss x employee
- Suspense

I am absolutely in love with this series! Ava has a way of just drawing you into the book and not allowing you to put it down. Ford and Reese couldn’t be more opposite, but it makes their love that much stronger.

🤎Cowboy romance
🤎Country singer FMC in danger
🤎Broody, grumpy MMC
🤎Age gap
🤎Forced proximity

When Reese is at the end of her wits, she runs away from her life and plans to hide out in Runaway Ranch. Reluctantly Ford agrees to watch over her. But when he meets her and assumes she is a spoiled, rich princess, he does everything in his power to be his brooding self.

Reese is free for the first time in her life and isn’t going to let Ford take that away from her. The two of them are opposites in every single way and I loved the strength and development both of them showed throughout the book.

I loved both of these characters equally, but in different ways. I loved how Reese is reinventing herself and trying to get away from the hold her life has on her. The strength and resilience she showed was undeniable. I loved the protectness that Ford showed and truly how was there for her once he realized that he had feelings.

The spice was spicing and Ford’s mouth was dirty! I loved the spice in this one.

Now the next book is going to be ANGSTY AF and I can’t wait.

4.25!!!

Runaway Ranch is such a great place to be and I was so happy to be back with Reese and Ford!!! Huge thank you to Ava Hunter and Valentine PR for the arc!!! This one was emotional, deep, beautiful and so lovely, and I truly adore Reese and Ford so dearly!!!

Reese is such a lovely, well-written character and my heart truly broke for her so many times while reading this one. I loved her fiery but kind, caring, loving, and funny personality. Her depth and backstory was so heartbreaking to read, but getting to see her grow was so beautiful. Getting to see her find her place at Runaway Ranch was so special, and I truly just wanted to give her the biggest hug. She deserves so much better and I just adored her so much.

Ford is such a great male lead, he’s pretty rough around the edges but a big old softie at his core, and I loved to see it. His depth also hurt my heart, but seeing his growth throughout the series and especially in this book was so lovely. He’s a grumpy, brooding man, but also incredibly caring, thoughtful, and loves so hard. I loved his protective nature, and how that showed in his relationship with Reese. I want to give him a big hug!!!

Ford and Reese start off with a bang, and it is an absolute ride getting to see them fall in love. Their relationship is filled with so much banter, chemistry, and tension, and I loved their dynamic so much. It made my heart hurt (in a good way) getting to see them break down each others walls, trust one another and find safety & comfort within their relationship. I loved their love story so much, it is just so special and it made me so happy to see them both get the love they deserve!!! The spice in this one is… yee doggy!!!!

This is a small town romance, cowboy x runaway music star, with found family, heavy emotional themes, mental health rep, and more. Truly such an emotional and beautiful read!!!

Thank you again to Ava Hunter and Valentine PR for the arc!!! I loved being back at Runaway Ranch!!!

࿐ And when she gets sad, when she’s the fire of the sunset and the rage of the river, all I will do is love her every damn day for the rest of my life.

ᝰ.ᐟ 4 stars

Is this series perfect? No. Are the books very enjoyable? YES! I love this series and although I think some of it is very cheesy and predictable and completely unserious, I have so much fun reading these books and I love the found family in them 🤭 I love how there's romance but also a plot with a bit of suspense. I don't remember much from the previous books to be honest, but I think this is my favourite so far.

Reese is a country star who has fallen down the hole of drugs and alcohol to cope with her depression. She goes to Runaway Ranch to hide and find a way to get better and take back control of her life. Ford is a former baseball star who knows what it's like to have his own demons to deal with and is feeling a little lost in life. He reluctantly commits to helping Reese while she's at the ranch.

── .✦ How long has it been since I looked at the world with fresh eyes? Breathed clean air? It’s like taking my first step into a life I’ve never met. It’s the wild burn of freedom.

I appreciated how the author dug into heavier topics in a respectful and honest way. Reese's story is really sad (her story is very "free britney" inspired) and she is deep in the black hole of depression and doesn't know how to get out and cope with life. She's going through a very hard time and feels completely lost and alone 🥺 But little by little, with Ford's help and the freedom that came with living on the ranch, she began to blossom and become her true self. She found love and friendship and for the first time in her life she was in control and able to make her own choices.

── .✦ Therapy, medicine, love, the ranch—it brought me back. Sometimes life is still hard, and some days I fight a silent battle with that black hole, but Ford is always there. He chases my dreams like they are his own. Treats my wounds like they’re his own. He’s not my cure, but he is a help. Because he understands. He stays. And that’s all I need.

Ford is hot-headed and sometimes doesn't think before he speaks, but he's a good man. I loved the way he looked after Reese, helping her take charge of her own life and showing her what it looks like to be loved. He also had problems in the past and went through a rough patch in his life, but he went to therapy and got better. He knew it was possible to come out of the black hole and that's what he showed Reese, that she too could see the light again. They healed each other🥹

── .✦ “I see you, Reese. I see your sadness and your beauty. I don’t want to break it. I want to hang onto it. I’ll sit with you in it. As long as it takes.”
Lifting my head, I meet his gaze. “You will?” I whisper.
“I will, Bluebird,” he whispers back. “I promise.”

Reese's manager is a piece of shit and deserved even worse than he got! 🤬 This storyline reminded me of those Hallmark movies and some parts of this book reminded me of other cowboy romances, but I don't care. I had a good time, I read it so fast and it was just what I needed to escape reality.

── .✦ Because it takes a strong man to love Reese. Not because she’s hard to love, or she’s difficult, but because she’s the most amazing woman that I’ve ever known. She forces me to be better.

I’m very excited to read the next book, I’m so happy it’s coming out this year, because I’m dying to read Wyatt and Fallon’s story.

Y’all, Ava Hunter was on a mission to break some hearts with this book! From the very first chapter my heart was so invested in Reese’s story/journey. There are some huge and heavy emotions and topics in this story but everything was handled so well. Ford Montgomery is my new favorite Cowboy. 🥹💞

Although Ava broke my heart, she perfectly healed it by the end! It’s a true journey to happiness and I’m never getting over Reese & Ford’s love. 😭🫶🏼

“𝘈𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦, 𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘉𝘰𝘺.”

This was a book where the moment I finished it, I wanted to flip back to page one and experience the story again.

Ford Montgomery is a man obsessed and he would do ANYTHING for his woman. Reese really goes through an emotional journey but Ford was there to support her through it just like she’s there to help Ford overcome the demons of his past.

I basically highlighted the whole book so just know this is my very condensed review.

I’m calling it in advance, this will be in my top 3 books of 2025! Please go add this book to your IMMEDIATE TBR! 🥹❤️‍🔥

now three for three, ava hunter hit another home run with burn the wild, pairing the jaded ford montgomery — still reeling from being burned in the past — with reese austin, a country music artist desperately searching for escape and the freedom she has never known.

considering reese was an individual who spent most of her life being manipulated and controlled, never knowing if someone's word could be trusted, it was special to witness her begin to put her faith in ford, a man who pulls no punches and speaks with conviction. his promise to protect her? consider it already done. she was his dream girl after all, and there was very little he wouldn't do to keep her by his side, safe and happy and whole.

similarly, reese offered him the commitment he didn't realize he craved anymore. before she stumbled onto the ranch, he was content to tend to his responsibilities and go home to his cat, never desiring anything more after once reaching the pinnacle of his baseball career and having it all crash and burn.

together, they forged a path forward, simultaneously soothing from past wounds and pledging to stand by each other, no matter what may come, even through the darkest days. heavier themes were tackled in this story, self-harm, a past suicide attempt, drug and alcohol abuse, among others, but were handled with grace and compassion, conveying that healing isn't a linear process.

runaway ranch is easily one of my favorite ongoing series right now. despite burn the wild nearing the 500-page mark, it never felt it, thanks to the story being incredibly readable and addictive. this is a series full of grit and heart and intrigue, setting the stage for romances that feel unstoppable and fated in many ways. whether they were born to the ranch and its history or invited into the inner circle, by way of loving a montgomery brother, each character of the series was meant to land in resurrection, montana, where the work is tough, but the bonds are forged in steel.

though it is sad to consider there will one day be a final installment to this series, a final page, I will absolutely be savoring the high that was burn the wild and looking forward to whichever story ava chooses to gift us with next, especially if it's wyatt and fallon's, a push and pull that's been teased from the very beginning.

thanks to ava hunter and valentine pr for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Spicy and bingeable

I love a fish out of water romance, and the opposites attract dynamic absolutely worked here. It’s another very solid installment to the series, and the only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars from me is that it was just too LONG. I don’t mind a beefy book, but I definitely felt the page count after a while. That said, I highly enjoyed the experience, and binged it in two long sittings. Our angry cowboy’s life is turned upside down by the spitfire of a heroine, and I loved watching him soften as he fell. I also really enjoyed the heroine’s journey, which was darker, heavier and more potentially triggering than I anticipated. They were fire together, and I was rooting for them the whole way through.

The story follows Reese, a singer who has finally accepted that she is not doing okay. While she’s famous and popular, she’s drifting through life in a fog and contemplating whether it’s even worth living at all. Seeing that she’s struggling, a friend invites Reese to spend the summer at his family ranch. It’s there that Reese meets Ford, a former pro baseball player turned cowboy, who still feels angry about the life lost. As the two clash over and over again, their feuding sparks some serious chemistry.

I’ve been enjoying this series, and the tropes in this book were right up my alley. I love strangers who become lovers after sharing plenty of sexual tension, and an opposites attract dynamic is always a win. I loved that Reese had so much fire, even when she was struggling, and you could really feel her slowly come back to life. There are parts of her story that are very heavy, but I think they were handled well. Ford has a lot of built up anger and resentment, so he was a jerk at times, but ended up being so soft and smitten with his girl. There’s also a touch of suspense, though that is part of what made this drag a little towards the end. Didn’t feel necessary. Other than that, this made a great binge and a spicy, entertaining read.

Wow! So this was my first book by Ava Hunter and I had a great time with it. The premise of the book is so unique for a cowboy romance so I was instantly intrigued.

Reese is a country superstar who is desperately looking to take back some control of her life after basically being controlled by her manager her whole life. A friend directs her to Runawy Ranch when she hits rock bottom and needs to getaway. Enter the broody, grumpy and a lil broken Ford Montgomery. I loved this man! The banter these two shared right off the bat was so entertaining. The way their friendship/ relationship developed was perfect. Ford showed Reese what it was like to have people and the meaning of trust. The mental health rep in this book was done really nicely!

I really have no complaints the end did have some “dramatics” that I could have done without and at times it felt like things got a bit dragged out but overall I really enjoyed and definitely recommend! I look forward to going back to read the first two. I am praying Wyatt’s book is next!!

Tropes:
country star x cowboy / former mlb pitcher
heroine in hiding
grumpy MMC
Small town
Found family
Age gap
forced proximity
boss x employee
mental health rep

I'm so grateful to have a gotten a copy of this beauty early and I can confidently say this is absolutely one of my top series l've ever read! Thank you Ava Hunter & Valentine PR!

tropes:
🤠 small town
🤠 cowboy romance
🤠 grumpy MMC
🤠 found family
🤠 country music star
🤠 mental health representation

I myself want to go to Runaway Ranch. Not for the reasons as these women in these books, but goodness, l'd love to just see it for myself when I read this series, I feel totally immersed in each character and story!!

Reese is a country music star who is in a dark place. Grady Montgomery, her music opener, notices she's not okay and she needs to get away. Grady calls up his brother Ford, gives Reese his car and tells her to drive until she reaches Runaway Ranch to hide. When she gets there, she's immediately introduced to Ford who pins her to be a spoiled brat and therefore, a rivalry begins. Us romance readers, we love a good rivals-to-lovers, don't we? (a Ford is a former professional baseball player who doesn't know what to do with his life. He has an offer on the table from his ex-girlfriend and her father in New York, but will he find a reason to stay on the Runaway Ranch with his family?

Ford and Reese had amazing chemistry, I could feel it prickling from the pages. There was a lot of mental health representation in this book, and I think that's so important to see main characters of a book to have some sense of reality even though it's fiction.

The author was kind of enough to put a list of trigger warnings in the beginning, please make sure you read those!

It feels so good to be back at Runaway Ranch and fall in love with yet another Montgomery brother. ‘Burn the Wild’ is no different. I’m in absolute awe at the way Ava Hunter was able to rip my heart out while simultaneously weaving my soul full of healing, love, hope, finding your strength, and overcoming your past. Reese and Ford’s story was so captivating, it will forever stick in my mind as one of my favorite romances this year (yes, it’s only January, SUE ME!!).

My heart broke for all the terrible things Reese had endured. With no control over her own life and music career, she struggled a lot, but her resilience truly shines through. I was completely captivated by her character growth and it was powerful seeing her work through her trauma. With the help of Ford, I was so happy we got to see her take freedom back.

Despite being a pain in the ass from the very start, Ford was quite captivated by Reese, but he also knew there’s a darkness in her eyes and secrets she holds deep. He is strong, fiercely protective, loyal, and way more of a better person than even he gave himself credit for. He also never gave up on Reese, even when she was at her darkest. He helps her regain her confidence and power, and together they heal each other from the hurts of their pasts.

The tension, angst, and love presented in this book solidified how perfectly Reese and Ford are made for each other. They both struggled with their own issues, but they complimented each other and supported one another to become better. I never thought that I could root for a couple to make it work as much as I did with these two, but if anyone deserves a HEA, it’s them.

I appreciated the tender handling of some darker, heavy themes in this book, and the author’s note indicated Ava’s intention to tell the story with care and honesty. I also loved how the power of therapy and self-discovery played a major part in it.

Thank you to Ava Hunter and Valentine PR for the e-ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

I went into this one a little hesitant because the whole “pop-country princess” FMC trope didn’t exactly grab me in the synopsis but Ava Hunter pulled it off beautifully. She handled some very serious and important topics with care in my opinion. Ford’s character development as the MMC was also a highlight even if I have to admit his nickname for her made me cringe more than once. Still, the plot and the strong bonds between these characters tied the story together so well.

Now…Wyatt and Fallon’s story has had me curious since book one. I can’t wait to finally read it!

I'm speechless, amé este libro de principio a fin 😭🩷

---

You know when a book leaves you speechless? well, this book did it for me because of how beautiful, raw, sexy and romantic it was.

A country star with a cowboy? yes, as you read, but oh my, what a story these two have. To say I cried, to say I laughed, to say I fell in love is a complete understatement. This book made me feel so much I couldn't stand myself.

Reece's story is one of those that makes you think, makes you angry at how she is treated, makes you feel EVERYTHING and how the author writes it even more because you feel EVERYTHING, having Ford in the equation was the best because HE WAS WHAT THIS GIRL NEEDED, THE TWO WERE TWIN SOULS.

God is without a doubt this story gave me everything, I felt on edge with the ending but at the same time I felt satisfied that it will all end, without a doubt the author knocked it out of the stadium with this story.

📌 I received an e-arc, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.

---

"he doesn’t tell me to be less. he looks at me from across the room and tells me to do more. he accepts me for exactly who i am. he tells me i am enough. and if i can’t be enough, he’s enough for both of us.” ⊹₊⟡⋆

oh my lord! ava hunter needs to be smooched on the forehead for this book, immediately.

i’ve been stoked for ford’s book ever since i first read tame the heart and it happily delivered! we get to read mentions of his wife in the previous two books’ extended epilogues, and i’ve been so curious to see who that person would be. reese was an absolutely perfect person for ford, and i truly adored reading their love story unfold.

ford and reese are both complex characters with a bit of a darker past and a history of struggling with their mental heath. ford is on the up and up, but reese is in the middle of hell when we first meet her. i think that juxtaposition really created a unique tie for them, even without them realizing it. reese is really trying to get out of her black spot, as she calls it, and ford is along for the ride, encouraging her at every opportunity and saving her from herself in the moments she needs it.

there was a bit of insta-lust, which always irks me, but i think it was more realistically depicted in this book than in others. they both acknowledge the other person is attractive, both mention having some kind of fantasy about the other, but the chemistry between them grows as their personal relationship does as well. they enter what they deem a friends with benefits situation, but they both know that their feelings for each other run deeper than just that. i thought that the progression of their relationship was perfectly done, and it was so raw and emotional!

ruby and charlie will always be my #1, but i have to admit… i think i might prefer ford and reese sliiiiiiiightly more than dakota and davis :3 don’t quote me on that, though. i truly love every character in this series and even though it isn’t completed yet, i can 100% say that it one of my favorites series’… ever. i think i could reread this series once a year and never get sick of it. the writing is so easy to fall into but also can be very poetic at moments; truly need to annotate these books sometime.

love love loved this installment, and i genuinely cannot wait to see what fallon and wyatt have in store for us! <3
