The book is very cozy fantasy with practical magic vibes, charmed vibes, and cottagecore vibes. I highly recommend this for all cozy fantasy readers!

Think Charmed meets Stars Hollow! This book has the perfect mix of fantasy, romance and even some mystery in the cosy, small town of Sapphire Springs. The spice is very minimal, so I’d say this is quite a cosy paranormal romcom, which is great if you’re looking for a pallet cleanser
This is a brilliant Valentine’s Day read, but could easily be read any time of the year. I think I’ll be rereading this come Halloween!
I devoured this book very quickly, it’s a very easy, fast paced read. The writing is immersive, captivating and keeps you wanting more. I went from laughing out loud, to gasping on the next page. I’m very excited to try other books by this author
At first I thought the way the relationship between the FMC (Rune) and the MMC (Donovan) developed was way too fast to be realistic, but by the end we actually had a good explanation for why everything happened so quickly, so please don’t let that put you off!
I loved the way the relationship developed throughout the book, the twists and turns kept me on my toes and I was excited trying to unravel the mystery at hand along with the characters. I felt very involved in the storyline, and Rune’s hardships were very relatable
Please note there are some potential triggers in this book that are alluded to (such as abuse, assault), however they happen in the characters past and are not mentioned in great detail, and the tragic backstory does serve to help you understand the character much better
I’m going to end this review with one of my favourite lines - “text spreadsheets nigh!”
This book is a sweet cozy paranormal romance. It was definitely a cleanser in between some other overwhelming reads that I did at the same time.
The description states that’s it’s a stars hollow meets charmed vibe which I could completely see as the town was all up in the FMCs business constantly. Add in the fluffy witchy vibes from Charmed and it’s a decent description. What it doesn’t have is the witty banter of Gilmore Girls. I mention that because many use the description of “stars hollow” to convey that relationship but that’s not the case here.
I enjoyed the ride for what it was as I don’t think you can take it too seriously. You are left with a bunch of questions along the way as the characters definitely go along with things that you never would in real life but that’s why it’s fiction!
The genre is a bit of a mashup as you start with a typical romance with insta “love” (lust) and the enemies to lovers etc.. but it takes a turn and you see the authors high fantasy roots trying to sneak in.
I think readers who like the aforementioned shows (particularly more mature readers due to some of the dated but fun references) will enjoy the story and want to root for Rune and Donovan along the way.
The one thing I’ll mention is that there are some descriptive terms that were very repetitive which took me out of the story at times..
I am thankful to have gotten an eARC for free from the author to read which gave me the opportunity to voluntarily leave a review.
My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars and I rarely round up.
⭐️ Hated it ⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again
I received an online ARC for my review but my review is still an honest representation of my thoughts. I have read that book from cover to cover as well.
"Sweet purple ponies", that will live in my head for the next few months for sure.
What I expected: a cozy paranormal rom com, with paranormal references. What I got: A witchy rom com with a while high stakes paranormal main plot. What I initally THOUGHT was going to the the plot as per the blurb: cute with seer abilities meet grumpy "normie". Cue premonition of his death, and Rune trying everything to change fate so they can live happily ever after. What I got was
That was one HECK of a wild ride and I LOVED every second of it. I would definitely recommend this book, it surprised me in a very good way.
One teeny tiny bad feedback would be to re-process the editing (which I hope they do between the ARCs and the final release) because there are still a few grammatical and punctuation errors here and there, but they are very minor.
Also if I don't become a Sinster by the time I hit 60, I will have tragically failed at life. Those ladies are GOALS.
REVIEW 🖌️📝Cursed in Love by Emily Colin – A Fun, Magical Romance ✨📖💖 Having loved Emily Colin’s Seven Sins series, I knew I had to pick up her latest Paranormal Romance. And I’m so glad I did! Right from the start, the humor hooked me—Sex Spreadsheet Guy is a line that will forever change how I see guys in IT. (Which is hilarious, considering I’m married to one. 😂) One of my favorite elements was the Sinsters Romance Book Club. It gave off major squad goals, and I can only hope that my Latte Literature Book Club girlies and I will be just as cool in our later years, still reading diversely, as well as the smuttiest books. 😏📚 💫 The Characters Rune Whitlock is a graphic designer cursed with visions of the future—at the worst possible times, while no one ever believes her. Then we have Donovan Frost, a brilliant data engineer—organized, reserved, logical, and, of course, ridiculously hot. 🔥 Their dynamic is pure grumpy-meets-sunshine perfection, with a meddling boss forcing them into a special project (aka matchmaking in disguise). 🌀 The Plot & Vibes Between Rune’s family drama, the mystery of her parentage, and the laugh-out-loud moments, there’s never a dull moment. The added magical abilities bring a fresh twist, making this more than just a workplace romance. ✨ ⭐ Final Thoughts This book delivered on humor, magic, and romance in the best way. While I liked the characters and their banter, I felt the romance was a bit rushed and inconsistent, with everything taking place in the span of a week or so. I didn't mind the insta-love as much, since the book was exactly what I expected and needed at the time I picked it up. The repetitive use of certain phrases that was a bit annoying in the ARC has been fixed before publication. Overall, it was a solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4-star) read! If you love a cozy paranormal office romance and grumpy/sunshine dynamics, this one’s for you! 💕✨ 📖 Free ARC received from the author in exchange for an honest review.
*I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Thank you, NetGalley!*
This book just wasn’t very good. The characters went from strangers to obsessed with each other within 24 hours. I’m not a fan of insta-love, and they had barely spent time together for that to even be a possibility.
I found the main character, Rune, to be a bit immature and annoying. The whole book takes place within a week, which also makes it more unbelievable.
There were a lot of repetitive phrases within the book that were very cringe-worthy.
I really wanted to love this one because I love a cozy, witchy, romance. However, this just didn’t do it for me.
I absolutely devoured this book!!! It was such an amazing paranormal romance.
I loved Rune, who had premonitions most of her life, but no one ever believed her. After she meets Donovan, who is her exact opposite and with whom she feels a connection, she sees something that forces her to stay away. But the more she tries, the more chaos ensues. As their connection grows stronger, so does the danger.
I loved the setting of a small town and all of the secrets it kept hidden, as well as the characters (especially the Sinsters).
I enjoyed this story filled with magic so much.
*Thank you to Netgalley and to Black Orchid Books for providing me with an ARC.*
Rune Whitlock, graphic designer with the ability to see the future - even though noone ever believes her premonitions. Donovan Frost, data engineer with strict routines and analytic mind. Different as night and day, so when they get bunched together to work on a project it doesn't go well. But then Rune gets a vision where she sees them being fated to be together. The problem? It will lead to Donovan's death.
It starts off as a charming rom-com in a small town, with predictable and funny banter between our grumpy/sunshine couple - and with a touch of magic. It should be mentioned that Rune has some underlying trauma (read the trigger warning in the beginning of the book), which adds some darker themes. Eventually the story also turns darker, with higher stakes. I didn't expect that and for a while I felt like I stood outside, trying to look in and see what was going on. But it didn't last long and after that I often sat holding my breath in anticipation of what was coming next!
The characters are, as always in Emily Colin's books, well fleshed out and easy to like. Despite her heavy baggage Rune is easy-going, quirky and awkward. Donovan seems unemotional and ignorant at first glance, but although he's meticulous and tidy there's more than meets the eye. And their chemistry? Off the charts!
* I received an ARC from the author and I'm giving my honest review. *
This book had a lot of potential, there was a great hook event and immediate slow burn spice introduced with an enemies-to-lovers, forbidden office romance, but honestly, it went downhill from there for me. I just lost interest, the story tried to take on so much so quickly that the characters felt disingenuous. There were lots of different genres and vibes introduced which is both a positive and negative - everything from rom-com to comedy to creepy paranormal suspense. The plot twists were not as surprising as I was hoping for and everything about Rune's backstory felt cliche and recycled. Rune as a FMC was honestly annoying, I kept wanting to root for her and sympathize with her and there were moments but then she would do something helpless and whiny, even in her most "powerful" moments she always was relying on someone else to intervene. I really wanted to like this one but it was just "meh" for me. This book is for you if you like: - paranormal romance - witches (& more) - slow burn - small town romance - workplace romance - forbidden romance
Just finished this beautiful book by Emily Colin! Thank you for letting me read this copy! This book was an ARC reading and releases February 14th!
This book is a feelgood story that I loved reading. From the moment I started this book I fell in love with Rune & Donovan. They make such a good pair! Rune, the FMC, lives in a small town. She is a graphic designer and can see the future. Donovan is a data engineer. The two of them need to work together on a work project. At first it seems that they can’t stand each other but their feelings tell otherwise. When the book continues you learn that Rune is solving the mystery of her past and wants to protect Donovan because of the bad premonition she had.
Cursed in love is a book that I wanted to read because of the mystery, the magic and the love story. I’m always in for a good witchy romance! I loved the main characters and loved to see their bond grow in the story. It was a feelgood, witchy vibes story that I recommend.
And yes, “chaos” is my new favorite nickname! #gigglingmodeactivated
You’ll love this book if you need: - Enemies to lovers - Strangers to lovers - Mystery family secret - Witchy vibes - Feelgood stories - Magical vibes - Small town romance
Cursed in Love is a paranormal romance with a delightful small-town charm that had me smiling from the very first pages. The writing style is engaging, light-hearted, and easy to follow, making for a quick and enjoyable read. Though not exactly a cosy book—there are some darker elements woven into the plot—the humour and narrative keep things fun and entertaining.
One of the highlights of the book is its cast of likeable side characters, who add depth and warmth to the story. Their interactions bring an extra layer of charm, making the world feel lively and inviting.
However, there were a few aspects that didn't quite work for me. The romance unfolds at lightning speed—within a week, everything is set in motion, and I'm not a fan of the "instant love" trope. Spacing the events out over a few months would have made the relationship feel more natural and believable. Additionally, some dialogues felt a bit out of place, making certain moments unintentionally cringy. The love interest, in particular, seemed inconsistent—his initial portrayal didn't quite match the way he acted later in the book. And, of course, the overuse of sweet purple ponies, was... a choice.
Overall, if you're looking for an entertaining read that will put a smile on your face at the end of a long day, Cursed in Love is a solid pick. Just be ready to embrace a bit of insta-love and a few over-the-top moments along the way!
Cursed in love is a heartwarming, small town paranormal romance with swoon worthy forbidden romance, curses and magic with forced proximity and passionate love.
The story follows Rune Whitlock, who is a graphic designer at Smashbox. At first glance, you won't see anything out of the ordinary however Rune is cursed to see premonitions. If that wasn't all, Donovan Frost, an ace data engineer at Smashbox is now given a project that they both need to work together. Donovan is grumpy and Rune is complete opposite. However fate has something planned for them.
In this cozy town of Sapphire Springs, nothing escapes the watchful eyes and monitoring of the Sinisters Book Club. And their do have a field day with all events that transpire between Donovan and Rune which is absolutely hilarious.
As their romance ignites and sparks fly, will they be able to realize their feelings? Or will Rune's curse be a hurdle in their romance?
Emily Colin's writing style is impressively captivating and the characters she weaves are so addictive that you cannot help but fall in love with them. The elements of surprises, anticipation and excitement piqued my curiosity and the amalgamation of emotions such as longing, desirous and compelling promise of love that's somewhat forbidding due to the circumstances were well written. The witty and hilarious banter between the protagonists was perfect. Rune's connection with the curse and intrigue deepened the mystery and I absolutely devoured it.
If you are looking for a fast-paced and intriguing small town paranormal romance with brilliant characters and equally dazzling plot execution then this book will be the next obsession. #donorune #ronovan #steamyinthesprings
If you are looking for a magical, charming small-town romance, look no further because this book has that in spades, with a quirky, lovely town, a spunky hard-working protagonist, and a seemingly cold love interest with a secret squishy center inside.
The first thing I fell in love with this book was really the setting itself: Sapphire Springs is a quirky town, where yes, everyone is up in each other's business, which is slightly annoying, but is also very loving and charming as you keep reading. I cannot not mention the Sinisters, a group of elderly women who love to get together to read smutty books and gossip madly, and who help the protagonist Rune in so many ways
Speaking of Rune, I liked how hard-working and persistent she was because even though her life kind of sucks since no one ever believes her prophecies, she just keeps trying to make a difference and helping people. Not to mention her backstory, which was dark and upsetting, but truly showed the strength of her character.
Donovan, her love interest, was introduced as a walking handsome spreadsheet, but you come to love him as well as he slightly unbends and reveals a much softer center. I will say that I thought their romance, while extremely sweet with how they bond through disaster after disaster, happened a bit too fast for me. They were basically at the stage of "I can't live without you" in just a matter of days, which seemed a bit extreme. That's a personal preference though, and I will say that they had a ton of chemistry even with all that.
Other things I loved: -Charlotte, Rune's best friend and badass lawyer. Always there to back her up and support her. -Cooper surprisingly Honestly, I kind of hope Cooper gets his own book at some point. -This very spoiler-filled line just because I enjoyed the reveal and the more high fantasy vibes:
Rune is an endearing and relatable character who resides in a quaint small town. The town's local gossip spreads through Facebook posts, complete with hashtags, courtesy of a group of elderly ladies known as the Sinisters. These charming ladies also share a passion for reading smutty books.
Rune is an orphan who knows nothing about her parents. She has the ability to see the future through intense premonitions but is cursed with no one believing her. This doesn’t help when she tries to stop the bad things in her premonitions from happening, often getting her into trouble.
Rune is forced to work with Donovan Frost, who is the total opposite of her. She brings chaos to his calm. Their romance seems to evolve too quickly.
This book had me laughing at all the things that go through Rune’s mind, and I love her favorite saying, “Sweet purple ponies.”
I did not even have the time to make a currently reading post to announce that I am on the ARC team for Cursed in Love and that I started this. Why? Because once I picked this up, I could not put it down. Cursed in Love was thrilling, charming, and absolutely hilarious. Rune and Donovan are the perfect example of opposites attract, and an even better example of the Grumpy x Sunshine trope. Rune is 100% my spirit animal in every way. She is persistent and straight to the point (most of the time) and Donovan is tall, dark, and broody (but also definitely a cinnamon roll who would not hurt a fly). I devoured this with no shame and had so much fun following along with Rune and Donovan. Cursed in Love was an easy five star read!
SLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!
Rune and Donovan have fate and an unbelievable curse working against them. All Rune wanted to do was keep a stable job, so she could pay off her mortgage and drink her chai lattes in peace. Donovan thinks that Rune is just playing one big prank on him, but in reality, she is terrified of something happening to him. With a hint of mystery, Rune must uncover her past, or she might never see Donovan again. In this gripping paranormal romance, trust must be built, dark secrets must be uncovered, and odds must be defied.
Also, there's a Spicy Senior Citizen's book club full of sassy old ladies called the Sinsters and I want to join that book club so bad.
This is a charming and funny paranormal romance. The synopsis had me at Charmed meets Stars Hollow. Two of my favorite shows so of course I had to read it. Rune is a funny FMC who says sweet purple ponies a little too much but you can overlook that. Donovan is absolutely swoon worthy and sexy. Added bonus is the Sinsters and I want to be in their bookclub! This is my first book by Emily Colin and I now want to read more from her. Thank you for the ARC opportunity and allowing me to share my thoughts.
Cursed in Love had me hooked from the first chapter. This enchanting story follows Rune, who possesses the power of premonition, as she falls head over heels for Donovan. As Rune grapples with her visions of the future, she faces the ultimate challenge: can she prevent the love of her life from meeting a tragic end?
This cute witchy rom-com is packed with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. If you're a fan of romance, comedy, and witches, Cursed in Love should be your next read. I look forward to reading more of Emily Colin’s books. I’d like to extend my gratitude to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Rune has had the ability to see the future for as long as she can remember - but what should be a gift is turned into a curse because no one person believes in Rune's power of foresight. Rune is forced to cope with the responsibility of seeing the future on her own. However, doing things on her own isn't necessarily new to Rune, as she was orphaned as an infant and grew up in foster care, forced to fend for herself on several occasions.
In order to keep her premonitions at bay, Rune works remotely and keeps to herself - that is, until she finds out that she'll be required to go into the office to work with coworker Donovan Frost on a high-stakes and mysterious work project. At first, Rune and Donovan clash due to Donovan's prickly demeanor - until Donovan warms up and the two discover a deeper connection. When Rune and Donovan take the next step, Rune steps through the doorway into a premonition that reveals how her relationship with Donovan can only end in tragedy; immediately, she pushes Donovan away, even though it hurts them both.
Prior to starting Cursed in Love, I did not realize how heavily the genre would fall into "fantasy" territory! The novel begins as if it is a typical romance with a slight witchy twist, but about half-way through, takes a somewhat sudden twist and becomes more of a "romantasy" and incorporates many more fantasy, paranormal, and some action-filled details. That being said, this is not a heavily-fantasy filled book in the slightest, and is still a good fit for those who do not enjoy intense fantasy reads, but like books with a hint of fantasy thrown in! For example, throughout the novel, the characters remain in "present-day" and in a modern realm and living alongside humans. In conclusion: Cursed in Love is a "romantasy" that has some modern fantasy/paranormal aspects that I would describe as "gentle" fantasy.
As other reviewers have noted, one aspect of the plot that tampered with my reading experience was the pace at which the romance unfolded. Rune and Donovan seem to instantly fall in love without even knowing much about each other. I think that the reader is supposed to understand that they were destined and prophesied to be together - however, I would have enjoyed a slower build of their relationship to allow the opportunity to see their characters get to know each other, operate around each other, and get a better glimpse into Donovan's character in general.
Another aspect of note is that there are a lot of sub-plots going on throughout this book to get you from beginning to end! Based on how the book began in chapter 1, I would not have anticipated the ending I found myself at. The book is decently long at 402 pages, and even within the span of 402 pages, so much more happens than you would expect! This is not necessarily a negative thing, as sometimes it can be frustrating when a plot moves too slowly or there is too much of a focus on one plotline for too long. However, with the fast pace, there were a couple smaller plotlines that I did find myself wishing had been expanded upon, to the point that I questioned the purpose of them being included in the first place.
Thank you to NetGalley and Emily Colin for a digital ARC copy of Cursed in Love in exchange for my honest review!
I just finished Cursed in Love and, wow, Emily Colin has officially managed to make me swoon. At first glance, it feels like you’ve stepped into a cozy sitcom complete with friendly (overly nosey) neighbors, impromptu festivals, and quaint shops lining the main street. It's like a cauldron tipped over Stars Hollow. But linger long enough, and you’ll discover what lies beneath—an undercurrent of ancient magic, guarded secrets, an elderly spicy book club, and a subtle battle between darkness and light.
Every page immersed me into this world and I couldn’t get enough of following the purple-floral Doc Marten's belonging to our heroine, Rune. Watching her face down her trauma to save herself and the home she loves was incredibly empowering. There’s something so authentic about her struggle and triumph—it felt like every twist of fate was designed to showcase her strength and resilience. Rune is one of those girls, that if something could go wrong, it will. I know this all too well.
The found family vibe between Rune, Charlotte, Jess, and the girls was pure sunshine; their bonds were as magical as the witches, seers, and spells swirling around them. And yes, I still can’t get over that sizzling romance with Rune's sexy computer geek lover—a bonus that kept the sparks flying between the pages, or should I say spreadsheets?
Now, let's talk about Donovan. Irresistible as ever, his charm and mystery intact until the very end. I can't lie, I have trust issues. So whenever Donovan showed himself, I kept looking for signs. The tension around his family had me on edge throughout, making every interaction feel loaded with possibility.
In short, Cursed in Love is a triumph of heart, magic, and self-discovery. It’s a story that proves sometimes the most potent magic comes from within—and from the love and support of those who dare to stand by us when we need it most. I’m still basking in the afterglow. Lesson learned from this 5 star read: Recovery isn't linear. You CAN turn your Post-Traumatic Stress into Post Traumatic Growth.
i been going back and forth about giving this a 3.5 or a 4 star and it landed on it being a 3.5 stars.
i really enjoyed the magical aspect of this book and everything that was going on with rune i found myself so invested in that storyline and with her past.
the romance is just what really lacked for me i feel like we didn’t get much to it they went from not liking each other to liking each other so fast and i feel like if we had more time with them and more flashed out i would of liked it so much more i just didn’t root for it. at first it didn’t bother me too much but having the realization all of this happen in such a short time span made me wish that section was just more flashed out and given more time because we went from nothing to talking about kids and marriage in a week. i however did like the action of him remembering the flowers she had on her frontyard and him placing the same ones on her desk i thought that was really sweet.
overall it was a good story and i definitely liked it and even stayed up to carry it on but it was purely for rune and her story and everything that was going on with her so it is fair to say i really loved rune and she personally carried the story for me.
i wanna thank netgalley for the giving me a arc for this book !
I want to start by thanking Emily Colin considering I had the honor of reading this book as an ARC. Thank you!
This book is about Rune, a young lady who grew up in several foster homes and now lives in a small town with her cat, Valentine. However, Rune has a special gift that no one knows about: she gets visions of the future. The only problem is: she has absolutely no control over at what times these visions present themselves which causes many uncomfortable moments. And when she tries to explain to people that she's getting these visions they don't believe her. To avoid the uncomfortable situations, Rune works mostly from home until her boss, Ethan, forces her to work with Donovan, an "icecold" colleague who seemingly dislikes her. As the project progresses and Rune discovers more and more about her origins she faces the question: Who among her friends, colleagues and acquaintances can she really trust?
I really enjoyed reading this book! It starts out as a cozy romance book, but the further you get into the story the more it becomes a romantasy! Definitely a recommended read!
Wow wow what a witchy ride! This has all the things. Curses, mystery, magic, romance, small town vibes and funnies. Cursed in Love follows Rune Whitlock, a seer modeled after Cassandra in Homer's Illiad, who has premonitions but no one believes her. I loved this book. Perfect for spooky season...or really any season to be honest. The plot was intriguing, fast-paced, and the twists were plentiful. The setting is small town vibes, where everyone is in everyone else's business. The romance wasn't too spicy, but was definitely electric. Only a few things I had an issue with. The author used the phrase purple ponies frequently, and it became distracting as my adhd brain kept inserting other things she could have used. And the characters allow themselves to be put in situations that are obviously not suggested. Like danger danger signs written all over them. Lastly the MMC needed to chill just a touch about his past traumas. Other than those things, which I could ignore, I really enjoyed this book. I really wish it was a series instead of a standalone. 4.75 stars, rounded up to 5 for me. Huge thanks to Black Orchid Books and Netgalley for this ARC!
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with an arc for Cursed in Love.
TW: mentions childhood abuse
Cursed in Love is set in a wholesome small town and follows the story of Rune, a funny woman who has the gift of seeing the future. She was adopted, unsure of her parents, and throughout the book is forced to face her past. Quirky town members (the Sinsters club literally has me keen to be old and join a raunchy smut book club) make the book so fun.
It’s full of romance, yearning, will they won’t they, enemies to lovers, and also takes many twists and turns. It’s Gilmore Girls wholesome town vibes with a dark twist that you will not expect.
It’s a mix of fantasy/paranormal and romance. There were times there were repetitive words and sentences that took me out of the book but besides that I enjoyed it.
I found it’s a good palette cleanser between big series reads as it’s a one off and I was hooked in to wanting to know everything that was happening.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a cute, wholesome witchy read that turns quickly to more dark themes that will keep you on your toes the whole time.

Thank you Netgalley and Black Orchid Books/Victory Editing Netgalley Co-op for my review copy. These are my thoughts:
“Sweet purple ponies”! What was this book!? This was so much fun! Not at all what I was expecting!
Rune can see the future but she’s cursed so no one believes her. When her boss pairs her with the very handsome but reluctant Donavan, Rune will find that the not so easy life she’s had thus far, will only get harder and weirder.
This book was hilarious and a little dark. It started off as a steamy romcom and with all that could go wrong for Rune, going wrong. And then turned into a battle of opposing witch factions. The combination of action, humor and the steamy chemistry between Rune and Donavon made for a griping read.
Special mention to The Sinsters - the “mature” ladies of Sapphire Springs. They were naughty and nosy and liked their books spicy.

Sweet purple ponies I loved this book! It was such a cozy, quick, sweet & entertaining read. I couldn’t put it down!
Rune Whitlock has the ability to see the future, but the curse of no one believing her. Although she has always felt like an outsider, she is content in her life with her best friend and cat Valentine. All of that changes when she meets the icy Donovan Frost. He’s as beautiful as he is frustrating. When they are forced to work together on a project, they realize opposites really do attract. Rune thinks she finally may have caught a break, until her premonition shows that not only are they fated mates, their love is the cause of Donovan’s death. Rune keeps Donovan at arms length to try and protect him, but as secrets unfold and everything comes to light, she learns nothing is as simple as it seems.
I stumbled on this through NetGalley and I am so happy I did! This was such a fun and feel good read.
Small town, witchy, paranormal romance, forced proximity, what more could you want?! This is funny and steamy while also being a bit dark and having some high stakes, different than I was expecting!
This story follows our female main character, Rune, who is able to see premonitions. However, she is cursed so no one will ever believe her if she tries to warn them about what she sees. She is a creative, former foster kid, chai latte drinking, work-from-home, graphic designer in the seemingly charming town of Sapphire Springs.
Sapphire Springs immediately feels like I’ve been dropped into one of those cozy small town shows like Gilmore Girls, Virgin River, or Hart of Dixie. You know the ones, where the older ladies in town run the gossip mill, and the latest town romance does not escape their notice.
When Rune’s boss calls her into the office for the first time in a long time, she is paired up with ice-cold Donovan. Their boss explains a vague new project he wants the two of them to work on together, and strips them of all other projects currently on their plates. This is to be their main focus, and they’re to work on it together and in-person.
As the story unfolds, we get a work place romance, discoveries about Rune’s origins, and another side to the town than may initially meet the eye. While the romance felt a bit insta-lovey, the story grew and the author’s fantasy roots showed through in her writing of the magic and the action that we get.
I had a great time reading this and would definitely recommend, it comes out tomorrow!
This book was really fun and easy to read! I expected a cutesy little romance book with a little bit of fantasy mixed in there but it had more fantasy than I thought. This was actually my first book with witchy vibes and now I want to have more. The love interest wasn't kinda annoying for not believing the main character but then again, he couldn't do anything about it. I did find the book a little bit confusing when the plot unraveled itself but still very enjoyable.
This is now one of my all time feel good, kicking my feet, giggling and blushing like a school girl books. I stayed up all night reading it —couldn’t put it down.
Magical mysteries and curses Small town found family Predestined love Hardcore insta lust Enemies to lovers Workplace romance Opposites attract Coming into power Hot nerd alert Slow burn Minimal spice but lots of witty banter to make up for Foster care trauma*
I really enjoyed this one. A delightful mix of romance, fantasy, and mystery that I couldn't put down. The author does a great job of weaving together and layering the story that kept me endlessly entertained and wanting more. The dynamic between Rune and Donovan was all over the place in a good way, and I love the humor behind Rune's narrative/character. Despite its February release, I think this would be a perfect Halloween read due to the witch element.
