Nice story, but I thought Mac was wrong breaking up with Mike without talking with him first about what bothered him and I didn't like how easily and fast he went on the date with that twink (although nothing happened between them, but still). Other that that it was very good story, as usual.
Mac The Mechanic isn’t that bad. It’s actually pretty nice with the ending and all but it was the most forgettable amongst Rob Colton’s shorties. I’d go with my initial impression though and give this book a four star rating. It’s a good read and the characters are nice enough to keep you glued in it aside from it being a quick one.
As much as I liked this, I don't think I can rate it higher than 3 stars. I love Rob Colton's writing, but this short didn't seems as Rob Colton-y as the other books I've loved. It would have worked better with either a longer book or fewer elements. The story is all laid out for you, but too many major events are reduced to a couple paragraphs.
I still like Colton's "big tough manly-man/little delicate crying-all-the-time man" pairings, but I think he's done it better.
I have liked Rob Colton's other books much better than this. Mac was sort of a jerk. If you love some and you have a problem, you stick together and hash it out instead of running. I would have talked and fought my head off. So doesn't matter if they end up together. I Like this writer a lot. There are so many little things he adds that just take the story to another level. Like that condom wrapper thing when Mac gives it to him to read.
The older guy is 26! A 26yr old with a horseshoe mustache into good Whisky and cigars? I'd tend to think pretentious. Even if he does own and run his own business.
Pov character keeps telling us how he'd not normally look twice listing all the reasons why he wouldn't, but how actually Mac seems nice! Oh and he owns his own business.
I do love stories with big strong hairy men, and this was right up my alley. Love that Mac was a sweet guy despite of his looks, and Mike geeky and unsure. Only problem I had was that they actually broke off over an argument they seemingly did not have to begin with. And also minor problem besides that was that it was a little bit short. But overall it is still quite an enjoyable read.
