After years of dismal and disastrous jobs, including paper plate stacking, shop girl, newspaper promotions and waitressing (she never could carry a bowl of soup without spilling a bit), she decided to indulge her passion for the written word by embarking on a degree in English and creative writing, graduating in 2009 with first class honours. She wrote her first novel in 2007 during her first summer break at university and has not stopped writing since. She also works as a freelance fiction editor, and considers herself very lucky that this enables her to read many wonderful books before the rest of the world gets them.

Fion unexpectedly arrives at Ottilie’s cottage, claiming to be her half-sister and wanting to be part of her life. Ottilie allows Fion to stay in her guest room, but is it at the expense of loosing Heath? Ottilie is finally happy with the direction her life is going, but what are Fion’s real intentions?
A Family Surprise for the Village Nurse, authored by Tilly Tennant, is a lovely and delightful story that was the perfect escape I needed. This book hit all the feels for me. I laughed, I cried, and I cheered on Ottilie. She is like a sister that you don’t want to be away from. She is a true gem. I enjoyed meeting Fion, and she was a fabulous addition to the story.
This wonderful story was unputdownable. I raced through the pages as I couldn’t wait to see how it would end. This is a wonderful addition to the phenomenal Village Nurse Series. Although this story can be read as a standalone book, I highly recommend the entire series. I loved everything about this book. I highly recommend this fantastic story.

✅Lots of surprises await you with reading A Family Surprise for the Village Nurse. So MANY unexpected situations arise for Ottilie and Heath.
Ottilie is the community nurse in Thimblebury. Newly engaged and trying to plan her engagement party.
I love the characters in the story and the friendships they have with each other. Though there is a fair bit of gossip going on as with most small communities.
I encourage you to read the books in order. There is so much backstory to each character that is very important to know about.

A Family Surprise for the Village Nurse is the third book in the Village Nurse series by Tilly Tennant. Fans of the series will delight that there is another visit to Thimblebury but new readers needn’t worry as this can easily be read as a standalone as the author quickly brings readers up to date with what has previously happened. Although not in too much detail so as to ruin the overall plot for anyone. Ottilie Oakcroft is newly engaged to Heath and is delighted that there are so many exciting prospects in her future. After a rough couple of years she is now settled into her job as a district nurse and she is happy in her home at Wordsworth Cottage. Heath has helped Ottilie find the new her and the trauma of the past is receding although she will never forget her husband Josh whom she sadly lost through tragic circumstances.
I found myself settling easily back into the setting and it was brilliant to see familiar characters making a reappearance such as Flo, Heath’s grandmother, Geoff and Magnus who run the small local village shop, Victor and Corinne at Daffodil Farm, Ann and Daryl at Hilltop Farm not to mention Fliss, Simon and Lavender and Simon at the surgery and Stacy, Ottilie’s best friend, and her daughter Chloe. All the aforementioned characters have their roles to play throughout the story and all add to the sense of community within the village and each and everyone have helped Ottilie establish a new and positive life for herself. The clean air, rolling green hillsides, twisting roads and lanes and the wonderful people have all aided Ottilie in embracing the challenges that her new life since leaving Manchester have presented her with.
As with every book Ottilie is constantly on the go with her job and it’s a real passion for her. She always puts the needs of others before her own and has become renowned for being indispensable and well liked and valued within the community. She never seems to rest and take proper time for herself and Heath. She drops everything when someone is in need of help and support and don’t get me wrong this is a fantastic quality to possess but sometimes I felt she needed to sit back and take stock of her own life specifically the one that she was going to create with Heath. She is a chronic people pleaser and yes that is to be admired but really it’s not healthy to be like this all the time. I think at times even Heath felt a bit overwhelmed with things and left out and especially when someone new and very unexpected arrived on the scene. Saying all that Ottilie also was very hard on herself at times in that she took the problems of others and one person in particular and they almost became her issues when really they weren’t and she shouldn’t have had to fight or defend the person.
As the title suggests there is a family surprise for Ottilie and this comes in the form of Fion. Following a discussion with friends in the village Ottilie decides to do a DNA test just to see where her heritage lies etc. Little does she bargain than a half sister Fion turning up on her doorstep and realisation dawns that the man she grew up thinking was her father was indeed not. Fion literally turned up out of the blue at a surprise party and I really couldn’t get over the fact that Ottilie was so welcoming and accepting of everything. I wanted some more emotions of shock, anger, surprise, nervousness, angst and apprehension. It needed a big reaction and yes there was a reaction but it didn’t have the impact I felt it potentially could have had. If that happened to anyone in real life would you have been as welcoming with open arms now knowing that a huge part of your life as a lie? I wanted her to be angry with her mother for at least a bit but at least that anger comes out when she meets her biological father and that doesn’t turned out too well. But on reflection regarding this entire issue I suppose it’s just Ottilie’s nature that she is kind, generous, helpful and forgiving and that what else would she do? Turn Fion away and not find out anymore.
Fion really got herself ingrained into Ottilie’s life and that of the village very very quickly. Before, the reader knows it Ottilie has offered her a place to stay at her cottage. Fion starts to actively seek work as she wants to get away from her family situation which I could understand when it was explained. But I just felt a sense of uneasiness that Ottilie was being too kind too quickly. After all she barely knew the girl and things could quickly go belly up. Which they rapidly did. I think Heath could see that too much time was being devoted to Fion and that wedding plans were being pushed aside and specific time along for the couple was not possible with Fion living with them. I think at times he wanted to be truthful and honest with Ottilie as to how he really felt but he was being sensible as once words are said they can’t be taken back. There are a few little subplots along side the major plot of Fion and her arrival and how it changes Ottilie’s world and I enjoyed them all. But it’s Fion search for work which leads to the major plot of the second half of the book. At first, I was thinking oh this is all wrong and far too close to home and how can Ottilie defend Fion and perhaps the villagers are right in their reactions. But there is more going on than at first meets the eye and patience and not making too rash a judgment is needed here. I’m being purposefully vague as to say anything specific would give a significant part of the book away.
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed another return visit to Ottilie and the wonderful community that she has found herself in. It’s a relaxing, quick and easy read with just the right amount of drama, tension and excitement alongside that cosy feel good community vibe. I did think the ending was rushed as another major event happened and before the reader could digest this the story was finished which made me think there is room for another book to discover what happens next. But since finishing I have seen that Tilly’s next book will be The Village Midwife, the start of a new series focusing on a new character and really I should have guessed at as hints were dropped that a new midwife was badly needed in the village. I do hope that Ottilie, Heath and co do make an appeared in the new series no matter how big or small. A Family Affair for the Village Nurse was another delightful read in the series with lots going on to keep the reader entertained with plenty of emotion, challenges and unexpected arrivals that have you rapidly turning the pages.

While you can read these individually you will want to start at the beginning to really get to know Ottilies story, her journey AND all about who is who in the adorable little village. That said we get to go back and this time there is A LOT happening! From surprise family members popping in and the start of a wedding being planned, we get to see Ottilie as busy as ever! Her and Heath are at the start of making some MASSIVE decisions about their future but also whether that future will include staying in Thimblebury or moving back to Manchester! Along with some new additions to the village and some big announcements you won't be disappointed with how this story unfolds! I already need to know where this is going!!! I need to see where the next chapter for Ottilie and Heath is going!!!!

While Ottilie is thrilled about her wedding, the revelation of Fion does cause a slight setback. Despite the potential challenges, Ottilie and Heath remain optimistic about their future together. However, a few minor obstacles arise, raising concerns about the smooth progress of their future together.
Ottilie’s open acceptance of her newfound sister is heartwarming, and the village of Thimblebury, as expected, is a tight-knit community with a touch of gossip. This delightful story is a perfect one-sitting read that concludes on a high note.

A Family Surprise for the Village Nurse is a great way to end a fun series. Ottilie has been a joy to get to know as she learns to navigate a new life in The Lake District. Presently, Ottilie and Heath are newly engaged and want to share their joy with the village. Despite the surprise announcement, everyone jumps in to make sure the party is a success, supporting the idea that Ottilie is well settled and has won the village over. As can be expected, nothing in life is that easy and a new twist throws a curve ball in all the planning and happily ever after. Fion, Ottilie’s newly discovered half-sister inadvertently causes plenty of chaos and upheavals, challenging the status quo. As secrets are exposed and challenges are worked through, you get to see the strength in the characters, their friendships, and their loyalties. Be prepared for some drama, but in the end, a happy ending for all.

This is the third book in The Village Nurse series and I liked being back in Ottilie’s world again.
I liked her relationship with her newfound sister and the ease with which they bonded.
As always with a small village, gossip goes around very quickly and I couldn’t help but smile at how the author deals with it in her writing.
An entertaining and quick read, I do hope there will be more books to come in this series.

This is the 3rd in the delightful series set in Thimblebury, The Lake District, about a practice nurse in a small doctors surgery. Ottilie moved there after a tradegy which saw her husband killed, needing a fresh start she moved to Thimblebury. She's now in a relationship with Heath, and everything is going well.
When someone turns up in the village claiming to be related to Ottilie, she doesn't really know how to handle it. Things get progressively worse until they come to a head, and she has a decision to make.
I laughed, and I cried reading this book, and I couldn't wait to read it when evening came around. I love this series, but I wonder if this is the end of it; there's a new series starting soon set in the same village, this time, it's about the new village midwife. I can't wait .....

This is book 3 of a 3 book series, but each book can be read as standalone if preferred.
So it was truly lovely to be reacquainted with Ottilie and Heath, along with a whole host of other characters whom also featured in previous two books. We also get to meet a couple of new characters, mainly Ottilie half sister Fion.
It was a fun story, with lots of drama and other stuff going on, lots of gossiping within the neighbourhood community which Ottilie has to deal with and ends up having mixed feelings about.
So all in all another enjoyable story that was well written with some great characters.
I’ve enjoyed the characters so much, that I’m hopeful that there will be a book 4 to the series.

It was great to be back with Ottilie and the gang. I love catching up on the village gossip. Discovering she has a sister was major for Ottilie and I felt how she handled the situation was very calm and mature. Not only did she have to deal with her mothers infidelity, but also her biological dads total rejection, but all the while she loved and accepted her half sister Fion and showed immense maturity when dealing with all the drama Fion brought into her life and the village.
Some interesting twists and turns and character developments, and as usual, ends just as you’re hanging on every word!! I can’t wait for the next instalment and see Ottilie and Heath become a family.

This is book three in the series but can be read as a standalone although I recommend the full series from the beginning for maximum enjoyment.
It was lovely to be back in the beautiful setting of the lakes and to reconnect with this lovely community of characters particularly ottilie and to see how her relationship with Heath further developed. These books are full of friendship and have a real community feel and explore real relatable issues and include characters which the reader is able to connect too.
I really hope there is going to be a book 4.

Ottilie is engaged to Heath and she finally feels settled and happy but when a surprise visitor arrives at her engagement party claiming to be Ottilie's half sister things are certainly about too get messy. I think the characters handle themselves well in the story and I enjoyed seeing Ottilie in love as we didn't get to meet her first love Josh. The plot has a few surprises which have me excited. I am hoping that this isn't the last book as it ends on a sort of cliffhanger that had me jumping for joy!

This is just a really good series. I love Ottilie and Heath, as well as the residents of Thimblebury! This book was full of surprises, some more predictable than others, but I really enjoyed catching up with the group! I was so happy to see how all of the Thimblebury favorites are doing. This book manages to be a fun beach read book, a cozy lake house book, or an entertaining book for a commute. The series has it all, and then some, and this newest installation is no different. I highly recommend this book/series to pretty much anyone.

It was great to be back in Thimblebury and my catch up with Ottilie was long overdue. We also reconnect with some familiar faces and some new. Fion certainly was a surprise wasn't she? How DO you react to something like this?
The village and their community spirit is always a win for me. Having come from a small town like this myself I appreciate the sense of familiarity.
A thoroughly enjoyable and engaging read.

This installment was busy with several story threads and a bit of family drama. The storylines were leisurely paced and easy to follow. I enjoyed the continuation and ongoing relationships of my favorite quirky village characters, even when I wanted to give some of them a pinch or five.

Another story about Ottilie and her life in a small village. Definitely should be read in order. An unexpected new family member, discovered through genetic testing, throws her life and that of boyfriend Heath for a spin. Not my favorite in the series but still a nice read.

Another lovely part to the Village Nurse series. I adore the setting, and the community in Thimblebury. Ottilie and Heath have exciting news, and a party is organised. Although a knock at door brings news that causes all sorts of issues.

I love this series . As with all of them this is A VERY GOOD READ. There are many things happening in this book but I am going to only tell you too. Ottilie and Heath get engaged and the night of the engagement party she finds out she has a half sister. The rest you will have to read to find out.
