This is District A, where high-rise buildings and slums are intermingled. Takeru Sakaki, who grew up there, is scouted by an underworld hit squad, and under the guise of training for new recruits, he becomes buddies with Mujie Ato. Takeru is suddenly interested in Kiyoshi when he learns that he has the looks he likes, a mild-mannered personality, and that he is a virgin. They seem to be off to a good start, with their work and bodies being a perfect match. Until “something” brought him to Kiyoshi's attention....
Wakaru Kiyoyasu’s debut work found me a few weeks ago and this week I gave it a read, honestly I was not ready (nor prepared) for what it was going to serve.
Some thoughts shared below, as spoiler-free one can do it.
Two hitmen are paired to work, Takeru joins this assassin organisation and Isagi has to show him how things operate over there. Straight off the bat, their contrasting personalities and interactions set the room for a more comedic tone this story will tell throughout. Isagi’s calm, mysterious and reserved demeanour matches and I dare say balances Takeru’s flashy, impulsive and borderline explosive way. Quickly, it is obvious how Takeru is very interested in his coworker in ways he doesn’t even shy away. Some could argue it is quick paced, personally that did not bother me. Hot crushes can happpen and good work if someone is taking action.
The way Takeru so genuinely behaves around Isagi made me laugh so much, they are so silly. Every other page and panel made me laugh so easily, as I witnessed their work business and bizarre dynamic grow.
I ended bookmarking several pages to revisit (and giggle once again).
This manga displays a LOT of sensitive themes, although the way it was approached, it is safe to say, the author did not want to offer reflections about it. Neither should the reader expect differently, which is fine by me. I enjoy crack BL. As I was reading it I even stopped to think, is this supposed to be some sort of parody about hyper masculine men in dangerous-action-packed narratives but GAY AF? It is really stupid funny.
The artstyle is neat and distinctive, very nice eye expressions. Both are portrayed as ikemen-esque. I was especially captivated by Takeru’s beautiful soul mirrors and Isagi’s posh outfits.
Now, the title speaks for itself and I quite enjoyed how you initially form the opinion who is the “psycho” between them and as the story advances, you may change opinions about it.
Needless to say I had a pretty fun time with this title.
