TAKE ME (NOVELLA)

He was the one man I couldn’t avoid. And the one man I couldn’t resist.

Damien Stark could have his way with any woman. He was sexy, confident, and commanding: Anything he wanted, he got. And what he wanted was me.

Our attraction was unmistakable, almost beyond control, but as much as I ached to be his, I feared the pressures of his demands. Submitting to Damien meant I had to bare the darkest truth about my past—and risk breaking us apart.

But Damien was haunted, too. And as our passion came to obsess us both, his secrets threatened to destroy him—and us. Forever.

The Stark Trilogy is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.

J. Kenner (aka Julie Kenner) is the New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, Wall Street Journal and #1 International bestselling author of over one hundred novels, novellas and short stories in a variety of genres.

Though known primarily for her award-winning and international bestselling erotic romances (including the Stark and Most Wanted series) that have reached as high as #2 on the New York Times bestseller list, JK has been writing full time for over a decade in a variety of genres including paranormal and contemporary romance, “chicklit” suspense, urban fantasy, and paranormal mommy lit.

JK has been praised by Publishers Weekly as an author with a “flair for dialogue and eccentric characterizations” and by RT Bookclub for having “cornered the market on sinfully attractive, dominant antiheroes and the women who swoon for them.” A six time finalist for Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA award, JK took home the first RITA trophy awarded in the category of erotic romance in 2014 for her novel, Claim Me (book 2 of her Stark Trilogy) and in 2017 for Wicked Dirty in the same category. Her Demon Hunting Soccer Mom series (as Julie Kenner) is currently in development as a television show.

Her books have sold over three million copies and are published in over twenty languages.

In her previous career as an attorney, JK worked as a clerk on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and practiced primarily civil, entertainment and First Amendment litigation in Los Angeles and Irvine, California, as well as in Austin, Texas. She currently lives in Central Texas, with her husband, two daughters, and two rather spastic cats.

Release Me - Similarities to another damaged man (Fifty Shades of Grey), but this one has a woman with issues of her own. Controlling her may very well break her. Or it could strength her and him both.

Claim Me - After all that they have gone through to be together, it just can't end this way.

Complete Me - Betrayed by friends makes things even worse, but the betrayal by someone you love can hurt even more. Does the past outweigh a possible future.

Unmissable Read.

I loved all 3 books in the Stark Series. Book 3 was not the strongest book but still a great read and I’d give it a separate 4 out of 5 stars. I felt Nikki was a bit needy and should have trusted Damien rather than leave him but it is still an unmissable read.
I’d recommend this series to lovers of Fifty and Crossroads. This is a first time J Kenner read for me and it won’t be my last!

Haha, these are not good, but I can't disparage them too much since I did read (er, skim) all three. I like that the female lead is an engineer, which is rare in romance novels. And I found the communication in the relationship to be healthy, by alpha-male genre standards. They think about how their actions affect their partner, apologize when they regret their decisions, and talk things through. How novel, lol! So that's the good that started me reading.

However, they unfortunately are not very well written or edited. The first book really isn't too bad. The premise is ridiculous, but okay, that can be fun. I don't enjoy shopping, fast cars, or cutting myself, so I can't relate to a lot of the inner dialog, but I can skim past that. The two best friends are both a mess in the same way, which oddly did bug me. Let's be creative with character flaws, at least. But it just kept getting worse and worse. Honestly, I just didn't care about them enough as people to be interested in their ups and downs. By the end, I didn't even really care how it all worked out.

Also, I was super annoyed that the brilliant engineer took weeks to remember that she could track her boyfriend's cell phone via the app he had set up on her phone. UGH!

This was sooo disappointing. I kept having 50 Shades vibes and Crossfire deja-vus but in a bad way (a couple of scenes were almost the same. Or tried to be…). Despite the fact I read all 3 books, I have no idea whatsoever what the characters were all about. (Or what they look like even. Except his mismatched eyes maybe).

They didn’t make any sense. I mean, the male character was supposed to be traumatized as a child but we never see the results in his adult life, while the female character seems traumatized now but I never quite understood why? We get only bits and pieces. We do see though how sex is the cure to whatever she suffered from..

Gideon Cross still rules. Sorry Damien

everything is compared to 50 shades. so let's say there is a billionaire and a woman. there is sex. and yes sex enjoyed with pain. for full disclosure some out there need to know though there are some triggers out in this book. She is a cutter. and her feelings and emotions are fully discussed throughout the series in graphic detail about her craving and imagining cutting as well as her actually doing it and how good it feels and states it's purpose in her life. but she also discusses how she fights it. but if you may be prone to suggestive ideas regarding harming yourself or cutting don't read this series. not worth the risk of developing a problem. there is also sexual child abuse and exploitation in the series. for me the cutting was like reading anyone faced with a psychological problem. despite its frequency I was able to still enjoy the book. there was some cheating but not with the main characters. with the triggers aside. this is an interesting series. the characters are intelligent and mature. i found their decision making as a couple refreshing. since they communicated their feelings. maybe not always right away but there was a big trust between them. and some books cause drama from withholding emotions and you want to scream just tell them you idiot. didn't feel that with this book. yeah they withhold some info but it's usually for understandable reasons. the way they communicated was a highlight of the book for me. the drama is more about their lives intermingling and how it impacts their relationship. and there is sex. some is very caring. some is lustfilled. some naughty. And book 3 seemed like the author had a list of sex scenes she forgot about in book 1 and 2. and in book 3 she was trying to squeeze in as many items on her list into the book. the ending makes you want more so I understand why she created novelas to continue the story after the third book. but you can end it on book three. me I enjoyed the characters and curious to read the novelas.

if you are wondering why none of my sentences have capitals it is due to writing this review on my phone. I know it's annoying. but it is the only way I can type fast enough to get my thoughts down.

Yes, he’s unimaginably wealthy, but the connection between Damien and Nikki is the essence of what makes this series great. The balance of their need for one another speaks to the heart.

BOOK & AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: 3 STARS

About the books

This series is linked with Stark series from J.Kenner and features one of Damien Starks employee Sylvia Brooks who has just landed this huge project regarding creating new resort center but there is one catch, she needs to get Jackson Steele onboard as their architect. The problem is that Jackson is Sylvia’s former lover that she left 5 years ago without any explanation at all, and he is not so thrilled with even talking to her not to mention working together. So let the game begin! Sylvia is doing her best to get him onboard, and Jackson will do it with revenge on his mind. But soon revenge is gone and love comes back to them both.

They face with many problems together, someone is always trying to sabotage their project, problems with Sylvia’s past are coming back to surface, Jackson’s secrets are being reviled one by one. Their story could be summed by taking and giving up control to each other. Jackson needs Sylvia to submit to his desire and ways in order to handle his anger and calm him before he gets out of control. And Sylvia needs to give him her submission and control freely to fight away her demons and to gain control over her own thoughts and memories from her childhood that still haunts her.

So who will win this game that started with revenge and is ending with true love? Will they be able to fight away their fears and demons? Or is this doomed to failed from the very beginning?

My review:

After reading Stark series I was really captivated by this author’s writing and that story was so good, full of exciting plot, surprising drama, and even the sex plot was so well written that got my pulse rising from time to time. So I expected at least as good quality this time around too. I was so excited from the teasers that were circling the web and I just had to read this series. But…..there is always that but I must say I was disappointed :(

The story was OK but nothing amazing that kept me awake at nights wanting to read chapter after chapter. Even the XXX scenes felt so amateur like which is surprising coming for J.Kenner. And on too many occasions there was repeating the lines, the story, the actions. All this made me feel like let’s just get this over with. It hurts me to write this review but that’s how I felt about it. Sorry author :(

Narrator for all 3 books was Abby Craden. I liked her performance, how she brought these characters to life. It was a nice feeling how she transformed female voices to male ones. In some situations it felt like she did it better then a male narrator could have done. Her voice is just how I would have imagined Sylvia’s voice to be like. Good job Abby!

HOT HOT HOT!! The chemistry between Damien and Nikki is undeniable. Nikki is a former beauty pagent contestant learning how to deal with an overbearing mother and her own feelings of unworthiness and imperfection. Damien is a former tennis prodigy who has endured the same types of feelings that Nikki has. Upon meeting Nikki at a party, he makes her an offer she can't refuse, pose for an erotic painting for his eyes only and in turn, she will be paid one million dollars. Easy right? You would think so, but there are many many twists and turns in this trilogy that will not only make you laugh, you will cry for them as well. Their relationship and love will be tested in the best and worst ways possible. Will all of the outside pressure tear them apart of will they stand strong together and rise about it all? Only way to know is to pick up this Trilogy and find out for yourself! I promise you you will not be able to put this series down. Damien and Nikki will be in your heart forever! I know they and Julie Kenner are in mine :)

I don't usually read smut but every once in awhile I find it necessary. While I loved 50 Shades of Grey, this palled in comparison. The truly kept reading the through the books to find out what happened to the main character. I absolutely disliked how the author repeated the story from the first book in the 2nd book and then again in the 3rd book~ as if we were not reading the books in order. Drove me bonkers with all the repeating! But overall, the storyline was entertaining and the sex was enjoyable to read. So good, I guess, for smut.

Sigh, I had the idea this would be more like the men of the month series... where this was going to be three different couples books. this is a long drawn out version of one book that probably could have lost quite a few of the sex scenes to condense the story line into one book.

maybe its just me and I am getting jaded. and then I also purchased the next three books at the same time as this one because of that thinking so, at this point I am about half way through this is what I am telling my self.
Sigh. no, its not that bad, but it is starting to feel repetitious

Thank the book Gods (and J. Kenner) this is a series. You can’t read just one!

J. Kenner has penned a brilliant white hot sexy series. These perfectly flawed characters will make you fall in love with them in an instant. I laughed, cried and got so irritated I wanted to throw my book across the room. If you are looking for a fantastic read with relatable sexy humans...these books are for you. You won’t be able to get enough of Damian and Nikki!

Love this series, Damian Stark is hot !! This is the 3rd time I've read the series. Great story with plenty of hot love scene and secrets to be revealed. It's up there with the best, 50 shades etc. Loved the characters, Damian and Nikki. I would definitely recommend this series. Now i'm going to read the 2 novellas that accompany theses books, "take me" and "tame me".

Love it

This story is profound. An abuse victim paired with a cutter. Both smart strong independent people. Both influential in their own way. Both needing and using the other to heal. Sexy and romantic. Great read!

Loved it!

Such a good series! I like it a lot better than the Stark International Trilogy which I thought was lacking a real connection and less believable story line. I really enjoyed this one though and I couldn't put it down. Worth the buy!
