Susanne Ash writes sweet contemporary romance. When she's not busy putting pen to paper, she loves to cook, knit, and head out exploring with her husband and daughter. She lives close to the beach in beautiful South Carolina. You'll find that her setting is often a fictionalized version of her surroundings and the places she's visiting with her family.
This is the first book in the series where the MMC actually pisses me off. I've read a few book (not in order) and I've loved them all. I like this book too but Ben really grinded my gears. He doesn't listen to Natalie, not even at the end. He waits for everyone else to convince him Natalie won't leave him instead of believing her. Sure, she talks to him, but he has the audacity to tell her to prove it to him instead of believing her or even giving her the benefit of the doubt. Then it takes 2 people to convince him otherwise 😒😒 this is the first time the mmc pisses me off in this series.

Each book could be read as a standalone, however there's some overlap between books with the characters. He's a ranger at the local wild life preserve. She's a photographer wanting to show the public the importance of conservative and preservation. Sparks fly with their opposite opinions on how to do it. What will it take for them to agree? Why is he so desperate to stay closed off?
3⭐️/5⭐️ ♡What to expect: hate to love, forced proximity, small town romance ♡ He hates her because he doesn't understand her work. But after an injured eagle and some forced proximity they grew on each other. Not a lot of chemistry between them but overall alright. ♡ Number of pages: 58 pages, Kindle Edition ♡ Read: 23rd June 2025
Natalie is a photographer that Ben believes is harming his nature preserve. She trying to bring attention to it, but not the way he believes. After they save an injured eagle, they begin to understand each other and build a relationship. These books are so worth the short reads. I have loved each one.
I am enjoying these short reads. In this story I really liked the parts when Natalie was taking photos. I loved the focus on the wilderness and rescuing the eagle.
I LOVED this one! It was so so cute. I love the grumpy/sunshine trope and this was done perfectly in such a short book. It was perfect and wasn't so rushed with him giving in to her sunshine.
I love this series so far and am excited to read the next one with the Librarian and the Contractor ☺️
I enjoyed the two approaches to appreciating the wilderness and how they became more when together. I loved the eagle rescue as well. Fabulous descriptions.
Echoes of the Heart by Susanne Ash is the fifth book in The Alphabet Sweethearts series, interconnected cozy novels with the same setting in a small town, but each with a different couple. In this book Ranger Ben Holloway and wildlife photographer are not friends. He wants to preserve the wildlife reserve, while she wants to enhance that with a visitors’ centre.
This book was such a joy to read. I loved the interactions between Ben and Natalie. Both are great characters and it was lovely to read how both wanted the best for the reserve. As they spent more time together, a romance is blossoming. But as Ben has been hurt in the past, he does his best to push Natalie away.
The writing style is flowing and as it is a short novel, I finished it in one setting. There is romance in this novel and some drama, it has a beautiful setting, lovely and likable characters, a bit of a sunshine grumpy trope, and the love of wildlife shows everywhere in this book. Although this is a novella, it has a good plot and story-line.
If you want to read a cozy romance novel and series, I can totally recommend both. From the very first book that I read, I am a big fan. And I will definitely read all the other novellas in this series!
