WARNING SIRENS is a twisted collection of 3 novellas.
A Forest of Warning Sirens. A couple goes camping, but they grow increasingly concerned when they see warning signs on the IF SIREN SOUNDS, LEAVE AREA IMMEDIATELY AND GO UPHILL 500 STEPS.
A Train Full of Ghosts. A couple takes an overnight train, but a strange list of rules comes over the intercom.
The Mannequins are Bleeding at the Millwood Mall. A woman and her son get lost in a strange labyrinth underneath a dying mall.
I loved this one! Three deliciously creepy stories, all different from each other, broaching themes of isolation and liminality. The opening story, "A Forest of Warning Sirens," was my favorite, as it's brimming with tension, mystery, and hair-rising scenes - and it's about hiking in a forest, which always delivers chills and thrills in a Daniels book. The second story, "A Train Full of Ghosts," is about an overnight train, travelling on which demands following a weird list of rules. It soon becomes a matter of life and death, as the spookiest experiences come up for the unfortunate couple riding the train. Finally, "The Mannequins are Bleeding at the Millwood Mall," though a good story, went a bit too long, and some repetition killed the tension. That said, it's hugely inventive, and mannequins are always interesting if you're in the mood for horror. In sum, a perfect horror collection, on the lighter side (no gore), complete (no cliffhangers, no ambiguities), delivering exactly what it promised.

This is a set of three novellas. The first one is about two couples who go hiking up the hills. They encounter some weird warnings as they ascend. Eventually, they realize what they are for, but things go berserk. The second novella is about a couple on their way to meet the girl's parents. They board an overnight train with a strange set of rules. They soon realize that this will be one heck of a ride. Unless they stick to the rules. The third story is based on an urban legend set in a shopping mall where many stores are getting shut down post-pandemic. A woman and her kid get lost in an abandoned section.
These stories stand up to the usual style of the writer. These creepy stories brush through the subject of isolation on different levels. The first novella was an average read and the mood took time to set in. Towards the end of the first story, the pace picks up and the same continues for the rest of the book. The second and third ones are spooky and have interesting plots. The third novella is told from the angle of two persons and it is interesting to see how both POVs converge at some point. The book is a quick read that can be finished in a single sitting. The author maintains the chills and thrills as in previous books. The gore is maintained on the lighter side. There are tense moments but there seems to be no ambiguity or twist anywhere. The stories move plainly but the plots maintain the interest factor that keeps us engaged. There could have been a few illustrations which always hypes me for a read. I liked how the author uses various properties like the warnings and sirens in the first, the train in the second and the mannequins in the third stories.
In short, an interesting combination of horror novellas that can provide you with an interesting and quick read.

3 short stories…each equally disturbing and chillingly good. Kept me captivated from the get go. My favourite is the second story about being stuck on a train with no escape. All short stories have a somewhat happy ending, in case anyone was wondering.

This book was a collection of three scary short stories. I found them to be quite simple and rather silly. Not much horror or scare factor for me. I did enjoy reading them and they were pretty fun!
Having thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, I was excited to see what new horrors Blair would have here! And once again, they were delightful (if that's the right word) slices of creepiness.
I did find the title story to be the weakest of the three - intriguing and with a really interesting premise, but it didn't really go anywhere. Also what happened to the dog?!
The second tale, 'A Train Full of Ghosts', was much stronger. It reminded me of the old 'Sapphire and Steel' TV show, with a 'locked room' of a train full of nastiness. This gripped me much more effectively, with the only frustration being that the protagonists were so horror-movie-typical stupid! I knew they'd break all the rules immediately, which had me rolling my eyes a fair bit. A fun ride, but I wasn't cheering for them to survive.
The final story was my favourite. 'The Mannequins are Bleeding at the Millwood Mall' starts with a fantastic first sentence and heads full-tilt from there, into the bowels of a decaying mall that contains... something. The strongest narrator in the book, this genuinely had me shocked at some of the reveals, and left me desperately wanting to know more.
I think that sums up this collection - each one could be so much more than a short story. Every world here has such potential and I really wanted to delve more deeply into the park, the train and the mall. I hope Blair Daniels writes a longer book soon, because I'd love to see her imagination really open up as I'm sure it can!.

I don’t often get creeped out while reading, but WARNING SIRENS had me so on edge at times that I found myself looking around to make sure everything was okay.
This collection of three stories is united by one spine-chilling theme: something isn’t right. Each story offers a unique setting, yet all share a sense of looming dread that will make you feel so creeped out.
Normally with anthologies, I tend to pick a favorite story or two, but in WARNING SIRENS, I found myself enjoying all three stories equally. The first story takes us into the wilderness, where a cryptid might be responsible for an entire warning system. The second traps us on a bizarre train where the rules for travel might save your life. The third centers around the eerie atmosphere of a creepy mall—one of my favorite unsettling settings in horror.
Blair Daniels’ writing makes it easy to lose yourself in the narrative. The pacing is perfect, keeping the tension high without feeling rushed. The characters are relatable and well-developed, which makes the eerie situations they find themselves in even more impactful.
WARNING SIRENS it’s a must-read for anyone who enjoys a good atmospheric horror story.

Each of the three stories in this book were quite enjoyable and suspenseful! The first story, A Forest of Warning Sirens, was great and built the suspense really well. I especially loved that it was based on an urban legend that I wasn't sure was real or not! The second story, A Train Full of Ghosts, was a rules based story which is one of my favorites in this genre! However, I did think the characters were a little stupid and there should have been more consequences, I still enjoyed the premise nonetheless. The last story, The Mannequins are Bleeding at the Millwood Mall, was certainly my favorite of the three. The whole concept of the undermall and how the stores had came to be there, paired with the disappearances really just made this one a nail-biter. This is the first book I've read by this author and I look forward to reading more!.

I have always really enjoyed this authors stories, and I enjoyed these 3 stories as well. Each story has a lot of suspense.
The first one really had me wondering what was going on, and it ended up going in a different direction then I thought.
The second story takes place on a haunted train and was very fun as well.
The final story is the longest and probably my favorite story of all three. This one takes place in a mall. I wouldn't have minded if this story went on even longer, or if the author decided to expand on this story in another book.
Overall, very enjoyable and I would highly recommend to fans of this author. Or just to any fans of spooky horror short stories.

I've read a lot of Blair Daniels' work, and this and the first book from Deadly Places are definitely my favorite! I think her writing style works super well for a longer story that can get more detail in it. I thought the premises of all the stories were interesting and well-executed, I honestly don't know which was my favorite! I'd definitely recommend this if you like nosleep-style horror or mystery/supernatural short stories!.

This was a strong sequel in the Deadly Places series, it had that element that I was looking for from the first book. The characters had that element that I was looking for and was glad it was so well written. It had everything that I enjoyed from the first book and improved on it. Blair Daniels has a strong writing style and am excited for more. It had that horror element that I was looking for and enjoyed getting into this world again.

”There was a sheet of paper taped to one of the windows that was still intact. Two words, written in frantic, scribble letters: SEND HELP.”
Blair Daniels does it again🙂↕️ I am now going to make it my mission to read everything she has written because I just looove her horror stories. These 3 stories were so good and creepy. The storytelling is always 🤌🏼 because it keeps you entertained all through the book.
Warning Sirens wasn't a bad read overall. The first story piqued my interest since it involved hiking. The second story was well written, but ghost stories aren't my cup of tea. The third story did the job for me. I don't think I'll visit an indoor mall anytime soon. I would read the book again if given the opportunity.

I love all of Blair Daniel’s books, I especially love the ones that have rules in them, it makes them all the more interesting. All 3 stories were page turners, found myself going back to read even when I was busy.

Blair Daniels’ latest collection of three horror novellas is the best yet. All three tales are gripping and suspenseful, keeping you in the edge of your seat all throughout!

These stories had my full attention from start to finish! I love how they turned pretty average situations/activities into something unsettling and scary. My one minor issue was that they seemed to end abruptly, but it didn't make the stories less enjoyable. I will absolutely read more from this author!.

Another great from Blair Daniels! This is the latest book of short stories I've devoured and I'm always sad when I get to the end. Great scares aside, the storylines draw you in and hold on for dear life. Definitely give this one a go!.

Absolutely fantastic read, from start to finish. Characters are well-written and likeable, and the twists are never ‘typical’ horror. So imaginative! Really well done. I’d love to see the scenarios elaborated on, in longer stories.

I loved the book! I read it to my boys age 12 & 13 and they loved it too! I would pause for 30 seconds or so and they would ask if it was over or if we could read some more of the story! It's a great collection of different spooky stories! This author is great and has great stories!

This was an okay, quick read. I enjoyed the first story the most, and I really liked where the second was going, but the end fell flat for me. And the last story had an interesting premise, but I felt like we didn't get enough of an explanation of what was going on in the basement. The idea seemed a little too rushed for my liking.
Not nearly as good as the first book. The train story was too much like the library story in the first book. I liked the sirens story the most if I had to pick. The mannequins story took a weird turn. First it was about bleeding mannequins and then it was about an “undermall”. Who’s helping the mannequins?! Also, there were sooooo many typos.
Each of these 3 novellas were incredible!! It’s honestly hard to pick a favourite as I loved them all. They were all so insanely creepy and gave me goosebumps! I loved how they were all so different from one another too. I’m definitely keen to read more from this author for sure. Highly recommend this!
An absolutely incredible trio of short scary stories, each one unique and really interesting. I went in to this blind so I hadn’t expected three short stories within the book but I greatly enjoyed them.
Really good writing first one reminded me of the radio tts stories on youtube you listen to, second one reminded me of silent hill and resident evil. The last one reminded me of insidious.
