Through an examination of eight journeys in the Bible, this women’s Bible study will show readers how God guides us through the mountains and valleys of life through His Word and constant presence. This Bible study will include discussion questions, answers, maps, and other features.
Sharla Fritz has been described as an amazing eye-opening speaker and author. Her books Divine Directions, Measured by Grace, Enough for Now, Distracted, Waiting, and others have given thousands of women the tools to dig into Scripture and experience a transformation of their attitudes and heart. With light-hearted stories and thought-provoking applications, she makes Bible study fun and uplifting.
Sharla makes her home in the Chicago area where she is also a pastor’s wife, mother, grandmother, musician, and confirmed chocoholic. And if she isn’t sitting at her piano or computer, you might find her stalking fabulous fashion finds at the local resale shop.
Reading Sharla Fritz’s most recent Bible study, I knew I was in good hands. Sharla frames each chapter by relating stories of her own journeying before setting eight, familiar Biblical figures in historical time, place, and circumstance. What decisions did they make? How did they navigate the uncertainties in their lives? How do we? Sharla guides and challenges her readers to connect and reflect, to dig into the Word, to learn more about how God leads us on our life journeys. This is a compelling study for anyone—in individual or group settings—seeking to grow in faith.
The women at my church are big fans of Sharla's Bible studies. I'll certainly recommend Divine Directions to the Women's Ministry team!
Sharla Fritz’s book, Divine Directions: How God Guides Your Path, deals with questions I’ve often asked. She uses eight scenes of biblical characters going on a journey, fills in the historical context, imagines the journey, and pulls out truth that we can apply to our own decision-making process. Abram leaving home for an unknown destination, Moses dealing with life-altering zigzags, and Jonah intentionally heading in the wrong direction are just a few of the scenes described. The book can be used as a Bible study as there are excellent questions at the end for those who want to go deeper.
The book is practical, well put together, full of encouragement, and I’m sure it will be a tremendous help to every reader. I highly recommend Divine Directions.
I love to travel, but I like to know where I’m going. Fritz provides insights into eight people in the Bible who set out on epic journeys, often not knowing the destination or the purpose of their trip. Some are heroes of the faith who followed God’s call willingly, but some resisted. Each chapter is accompanied with a map, timeline, and study guide with questions to help you reflect and dig into God’s word. You’ll discover along with Hagar that God saw her and looked after her, even in the wilderness. Moses’ journey was riddled with zigs and zags, yet God brought him to the destination He had planned all along. You will be better equipped for your own journey after reading this book.
It's so interesting how some books fall in your lap in a most serendipitous way. Divine Directions was the right devotional book at the right time in my life, as I am navigating some decisions. I enjoyed the format of the book as the author wove in personal travel experiences with the traveler(s) in the chapter. The sections 'Remember to Pack' provided some nice pauses throughout each chapter to do some personal reflection. I learned some new things about well-read Biblical people through the real-life background that were provided. The format of the Study Guide will work well in either a personal setting or with a group.
Written with compassion and practical wisdom, Sharla Fritz offers encouragement for the journey through personal stories, Scripture, and creative writing. She delves into the lives of eight biblical characters to show us how God leads us through life.
Nuggets like “choose confidence in God over clarity of course” and “When you cannot see a way forward…ask God to open your eyes to His provision” provide the reader with the very companionship she highlights throughout her book.
The study guide at the end provides readers with space to process their own journey, insight, and encouragement from God’s Word as they press on. What a timely book for those who seek wisdom for their lives!
I’m a fan of Sharla and her studies, so I was very excited to see a new book come out. Divine Directions is just what is needed today. The cover is beautiful, and so is the message inside. One quote I liked: “Sometimes God calls us out of the familiar into the foreign to increase our dependence on Him.”
Sharla walks us through unknowns while pointing us to the loving care of God, showing us how He is after our heart in the middle of it all. This book is thoughtful, caring, and full of gentle wisdom. Highly recommend!

Thank you, Sharla for this stellar deep dive into eight travels of Biblical people. It has great insights and the reflection questions will help you see and know that God is with you! I appreciated how I walked along with Hagar and how each one made me see God alongside my journey.
