Way of the Wolf

Rate this book
His old life shattered, his new life is consumed with revenge… and love.

Dr. David Lephmann lived a normal existence until he was attacked by a shifter. Thrust into a world of violence and mistrust, he must battle for a place among his new people.

Only strange new alliances can keep him alive. A powerful master vampire may help him take his revenge on the shifter who destroyed his life. There's only one distraction from his mission: an intriguing shifter woman who opens up his world to werewolf romance.

With no way back to his old life, David has no choice but to bend to the rules of his new people. Can he survive the challenge?

Way of the Wolf is the first book in the Shifter Legacies dark fantasy paranormal series. If you like shifters or the work of Anne McCaffrey, Christine Feehan, and Lynsay Sands, then you'll love the tantalizingly action-packed story.

I got the kindle version from Amazon a few months ago, and a bit later I was offered a chance to review the audiobook as well. I had heard another book from this author/narrator duo (different series) and I really enjoyed it - so I decided to give this one a try as well.

I felt the story started out strong. I was instantly pulled into it. Also, Mikael Naramore is impressive as a narrator.

Then, as it continued on, I felt more and more confused. I was able to eventually figure out what was going on, to an extent. But, instead of connecting them together, he'd add in another story. There's many times I would back track listening just to see if I missed anything, but I hadn't. It isn't until the end that you've got any sort of clue what's going on.

It isn't that it is a bad story, quite the opposite. The characters were fascinating. The narration was great. It was just very hard to keep up with and difficult to enjoy a story where you feel like you're a bit off for missing important things that haven't actually been stated yet.

This book is a complex story told from multiple points of view but one I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm not going to say anything about the plot because I will probably spoil something because so much happens, but what I will say is it's a slow building plot but one that is explosive and thrilling. There is so much happening simultaneously that at times it's hard to see what it means to the overall story but believe me when I say that it all comes together in the end!!

As always, Mark E Cooper delivers an amazing book. His world building and character development are phenomenal and he puts so much thought in his books. I can understand some of the reviewers saying that there are too many POVs, but personally I really enjoyed it because it added more to the story. It's a book that you need to stick with in order to understand fully.

I listened to the audio and the narrator delivers again. Michael Narramore does an awesome job voicing each character but I think David is my favourite. He really brings them to life.

Im really looking forward to book 2.

The story shifts from time to time, so completely that you wonder if you are suddenly reading an utterly unrelated book. You get one chapter with one set of characters, about 8 chapters with another set, and then another 6 or so chapters with a third set of characters. Completely disjointed. They don't overlap until the last 25% of the book. The story of David/Mist is not bad, but it's only a small portion of the whole novel. Then the whole thing spirals out to be mostly Vampire politics and it gets violent, gory and there's even rape. That was the point I knew I was going to delete the book. Not sure why it's called way of the wolf, honestly. Just plain ugh.

Marking this author as Do Not Read.

Despite the discouragement I sometimes feel when combing through free book lists, a find like this one reminds me why I still do it.
I really liked this book, even though the PoVs changed every few chapters and weren't focused on one plot point. The further I read in the book the more connected everything started to be. The end of the book was action-packed and left me wanting to know more about all of the characters in the book, even the ones I didn't like much.
I liked the mix of paranormal with the time being set in the future--sort of anyway. I was reminded of a lot of other books I've read in the genre, but hell I've read a ton of books. Besides, the things I was reminded of were things that I mostly liked from the other series that reminded me in the first place. I could go on but I’m not the best @ spitting out what I think a lot of the times and I don’t want to write an essay trying. :)
Over all: I thought this book was great and will look into the sequel—even though Kat is not one of my favorite people and I’m hoping that it will be like this book and jump around a lot. The ideas for vampires, shifters, unded, elves, and witches were as unique as a person could be with the flood of the character types in the genre. I look forward to reading more about them and the continued political crap and intrigue surrounding all of the races.

This book was amazing! Well-written, exciting, and full of brilliant twists and turns.

It has four parts and each lends itself to the other for the big reveal in the finale. If you are a fan of vampires, wolves, or any paranormal, this is the book for you. It has a lot of elements that could relate to real situations (such as the references to anyone different being alienated from society) and a murder-mystery to boot!

There are many intriguing characters in the plot, and even though this is an adult book, there are no continuous explicit scenes (only one was sexual which served to highlight the brutality of the situation).

I thought of the film "Werewolf in New York" whilst reading this at the beginning and I really liked the David/ Mist character. A book about him and his pending relationship with Ronnie would be interesting.

Overall, I have had this on my kindle for a while after getting it on a promotion a while back and am sorry it took me so long to read it. Highly recommend if you enjoy action, adventure, thrillers, a mystery, and the spice of paranormal!

This book was a very detailed, complex tale of vampire and werewolf politics in a human world. It's told from the point of view of several characters, but the author carefully introduces each character at the start of the book so that you get a real feel for each one - then begins to blend the storylines together. I enjoyed the story coming from a medical/research point of view at first. That seemed to help legitimize the world being described. This book is not the usual paranormal romance type of vamp/shifter story. This reads more like a political thriller, with lots of tension and a complex plotline. I think of it as a paranormal story for guys instead of a paranormal romance for women. It reminded me a bit of The Strain in the way it was written and general tone.

Note: I was given a copy of the audible audiobook by the author in return for an honest review.

The story was a little confusing to start. Each of the characters received a well-developed bio chapter at the beginning, so it was almost as if each new chapter was the start of an entirely new book. When their storylines started overlapping, however, it got really good, really fast. If you can make it through the opening chapters, I promise you that the end well-justified the means! I can't wait to read book 2!

Very hard time getting into this book, and didn't enjoy the multiple PoVs-- More than half-way through and I just can't force myself to finish this one.

Don't go into this expecting a quick and easy read. The POV shifts quite often, and sometimes the new POV seems unconnected with the previously narrated portion. That being said, it was worth pursuing as the plot or plots thickened and eventually everything came together. The end was a bit abrupt, but in a "wow, that was some climax" kind of way. There were a few times that the explanations lagged on a bit much...and here and there were spelling and/or contextual errors; mostly I ignored them as I was really absorbed in the story. AND...it was REALLY nice to have a good shifter/vampire read without the main (or any other) characters having graphic sex every time a page was turned. Well done, Mr. Cooper.

I was recived the audio book "The Way of The Wolf" from the author Mark E. Cooper for an honest review.

The great story, and the amazing talent of the narrator Mr. Naramore made this story an incredibly enjoyable read. There were many characters and personalities, Mr. Naramore did a wonderful job of bring each one to life, each having their own identifiable and unique voices. (Not easily done) I loved it when there was a scene where a character was behind a closed door, he would muffle the voice and make it feel like you were a part of the story.

The wonderfully talented writing made this story great! I loved the depth he gave each character, it really made me feel connected to them! I liked how he started the book with seemingly completely different stories then slowly intertwined them like you would a French braid. Starting with the different strands and adding to them and combining them until you had a completed and complex story! Hats off to Mr. Cooper!

I had some unanswered questions at the end of the book but I'm sure they will be answered in the next installment "Wolfs Revenge." But overall the book ended great and I found it very enjoying and entertaining! I can't wait to get to the next one and continue the love affair I have with the characters.

I received this book from the writer Mr.Mark E cooper for an honest review , and I would like to thank him for this opportunity to enjoy his work
the best thing i liked about this book was that i couldn't expect what was going to happen , and i really really enjoyed not knowing( I hate it when I figure everything out just by the first couple of chapters ) .
i also liked the changing of perspective from a character to another ,it was really well done by the writer
but i had some problems with this book like :
1- most of the time characters acted naïve and very immature ,childly some times
2- the beginning was so slow ...really slow, but it got interesting at the end
3-there were too many characters in the story that i got lost in who did what.
but generally the book was good, and I had enjoyed my time listening to it .

There is a large cast of characters in this story, which I normally find difficult to keep track of when only listening to a book (rather than reading). But each character gets a solid amount of point-of-view time before moving onto the next person/scenario, so it wasn't as difficult to keep track as I'd have thought.

Those many, seemingly unrelated, character arcs eventually weave together into a thrilling, confrontational climax - a very satisfying story overall.

Story-wise, I believe this is the first of a series and there was a fair amount of (understandable) explanation/exposition, but usually necessary to the plot and it didn't make things drag.

I am away off to find the next part and download it now :-)

I'm half way through this book but giving up. I can't keep the multitude of characters clearly in my head. The point of view keeps changing from werewolves, vampires, medical, police etc. and to be frank I can't remember who is what or their names. Given that, it is a bit pointless for me to read the 2nd half as I have no emotional investment in any of the characters. A very frustrating read. Perhaps a cast of characters according to species with their relationships to one another in the front of the book would have helped keep things straight.

Non-humans

This book was good. There were multiple points of view being told so there were times I lost track of who I was reading. It also introduced some new ideology for a shifter book which was pretty good. This book was definitely better the second time I read it. I understood more. I would recommend this book as a good read.

WAY OF THE WOLF

This book is fantastic with dramatic characteristics of all kinds (shifters, vampires, humans, and other magical creatures in this interesting world. This author reminds me of world's created by other treasured authors as Anne McCaffrey, Christine Feehan, and Lindsey Sands. I order the series one immediately.

I think there were too many threads to the story, this was very nearly a TLDR and a DNF. There was not enough character development for me to become invested in anyone, again I think because of the multiple threads. Still, the premise was interesting, and the setup of the houses and packs were creative, along with the various laws and lore.

Monster

Monster

You hear monster this and that the whole book regardless of the non humans actions, but I noticed no humans are called monsters or mages and they also have rights which I found weird

Awesome shifter story

This is a modern fantasy. There are samples of a bigoted future where becoming wolf is not fun. Stick with the story through the first chapters to get to where they all time in together. Great tale along the lines of the Dresden series.

Fulfilling!

Finally a book that has a little of everything. You get the truthfulness of the feelings of each character while they commingle throughout the story. Nicely written, I will get the new book as I am interested in seeing what's in store next for many of the characters.

Whoever wrote the synopsis for this book very obviously didn’t read it. David was hardly the main character of this book!

This was definitely different from what I normally read.. in many ways good. In a world that vampires, werewolves, elves, etc not only are very real but are known to everyone. No secrecy and a lot of politics that really do make you think about what our world would be like if it were actually real. That the people that are considered as monsters are not only living with a few vices, but have a conscience.

Judging by the writing itself and knowing nothing about the author, I would say that she is probably British due to the spelling and the way the characters articulate.

This book was more than readable: plenty of action and hard choices, etc, I gave it four stars. On the other hand it’s just not my type of book. It was very hard for me to finish much less want to finish.

So I am not quite sure what happened here. I was looking forward to the story of a Dr who has his life turned upside down when he contracts lycanthropy. Sounded really interesting and a good premise for a story. What I didn't expect was side story after side story and at 50% I have only read a handful of chapters about the Dr. there is some crazy vampire killing people and a guy blackmailing others to work for him in secret research. And honestly if all these story lines come together at the end then congratulations to the people who stuck it out but I just couldn't do it anymore. Far to many things going on and no progression on any single plot. As a side note I kind of wish the vampire war story was a book in its own right because given more time and a world of its own it was a good story I just didn't like the mashing together of so many main characters.

As it stands I would not recommend this book.
