Yup, I’m at that fun age where things are happening for no apparent reason, at random moments during the day. And I’m wondering if it’s caused by stress, hormones, the world or just a combination of all of the above. HA!
This book has helped me to understand that no I am not in fact through a mental breakdown, but my body it just getting ready for that lovely time as my mother would call it “the change”.
How you have broken it down into a 5-week reflection, really made me evaluate everything. And sure enough, it’s happening, and you know what, I’m okay with that. It’s all just part of it, this lovely journey that we are taken in life. So, just got to remember to grab a cool drink for those “power surge” moments, try not to freak out at people during those lovely mood swings, and remind myself everything is just fine.

I had really high hopes for this book but it put me in a worse and worse mood as I read it.
My biggest problem with this book is that the author was herself struggling with perimenopause when she wrote it. She flat out admitted that despite doing all of the pretty intense dietary, exercise and lifestyle regimens she recommends and being on HRT, she was still struggling. And she’s still in the middle of it. As a woman on the other side of menopause myself, I often felt that I had a better understanding of it than she.
Snyder also spends almost all of the book talking about how terrible perimenopause is in every way for every element of your health and life. It was depressing and frankly alarming and fear inducing. She recommends taking prescription hormone replacements starting before menopause and then for the rest of your life. This doesn’t seem very holistic to me, and she gives no alternatives for those of us who don’t want prescription hormones for the entire second half of our lives. I didn’t take HRT at all and I felt like the book told me I was doomed because of it. There was also no mention of the many more natural options, which I found odd from a woman who has written multiple books about things like essential oils (note that I am not saying EOs are effective at treating perimenopause symptoms, just that I thought with her previous books that she would at least mention herbs and other helpful natural remedies).
I’m not sure what kind of doctor Snyder is, despite looking extensively throughout the book and even on Goodreads, but I don’t think she’s a medical doctor. As mentioned, some of her past books have been on essential oils, and her accolades include things like appearing on Dr. Oz. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it would be much more helpful to know what she is trained in, especially as she talks constantly in the book about all the thousands of women she has helped like she’s a doctor but she really gives life coach vibes.
Snyder recommends a very low carb diet with tons of fiber, protein, fruits, vegetables, seeds, phytoestrogens and some healthy fats. She recommends lots of exercise and weight lifting, plus HIIT. Her mother is in her sixties and took up running marathons to get through menopause, and she recommends that sort of thing and particularly tennis. She says to mostly give up alcohol and prioritize sleep and relationships, plus incorporate meditation and yoga. Avoid ultraprocessed foods, sugar and grains. Load up on fermented foods and fiber and protein at every meal. All the standard advice that is in most health and longevity books these days.
I am honestly glad I didn’t read this book when I was in perimenopause because I think I would have felt overwhelmed and hopeless. If you want to read a book about all the reasons to fear perimenopause and menopause with generic dietary, exercise and lifestyle recommendations and still get the message that you’re doomed, this is it. It does that extremely thoroughly, but I personally don’t think that’s a good thing.
Sorry, but this was not a book I found encouraging or helpful.
I read a digital advance copy of this book via netgalley.
As someone who entered perimenopause without any guidance from older generations, I have spent years searching for information that explains what is happening inside my body. The Perimenopause Revolution offers a comforting and structured starting point for women like me. Dr. Mariza Snyder provides a blend of lifestyle support, symptom education, and hormone basics that aims to help readers feel more informed and less alone in the process.
The five week plan is accessible and manageable. It breaks down nutrition, sleep, stress, and hormone balance in a way that feels doable for busy women. Dr. Snyder also spends time discussing emotional well being, brain function, and the social aspects of midlife health, which helps create a more holistic resource. The language is friendly and supportive, and it is clear she wants women to feel empowered moving forward.
For readers who have already explored perimenopause content from multiple sources, some sections may feel repetitive. Much of the material mirrors what is found in similar books, especially regarding lifestyle adjustments and symptom awareness. I was hoping for more depth or a few new research backed insights that would help push the conversation further. The information is solid, but it is not groundbreaking.
That said, the book fills an important gap for women who never received education or generational knowledge about menopause. My own experience was confusing enough that my OBGYN had to take notes and study my symptoms. Books like this help bridge that gap. If you are early in the journey or feeling lost, this guide will give you structure, support, and clarity. If you have already spent years researching the topic, it may feel more like a refresher.
I have been reading her online resources and have found them extremely helpful so I couldn't wait to read this book! I love reading about womens health and hormones. I purchased my own copy of the book so I could highlight and make notes. I found all the nutrition, fitness and HRT info helpful. I like reading different experiences and suggestions because what works for one woman, may not for another. Another great Perimenopause reference book!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions and views expressed are my own.
Surprise, surprise - this "doctor" is a functional medicine clinician who peddles her own line of supplements as solutions to symptoms/experiences she has defined as problematic. This book is full of outdated and misguided interpretations of research, thinly veiled product placements, and encouragement to engage in disordered eating behavior. The advice she outlines for navigating perimenopause is at best shoddy and ineffective and at worst dangerous and actively harmful to a demographic that is so often dismissed and desperate for relief.
A straightforward primer on perimenopause and lifestyle changes that can help throughout the process. It doesn't really go too far down the rabbit hole, so it's good for people just wanting to know some basic, more surface level information. If you're a science nerd like me, you're going to want more than what this book provides, but overall it gets the job done for someone new to this topic who is just dipping their toes in the water.
I found this to be a book full of information about perimenopause.
It is broken up well with different topics - information about it, 7 pillars to help you thrive through it, and a 5-week plan to help you reset your lifestyle.
A great resource.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher & author for the ARC read. All opinions are my own,.
Being in Perimenopause myself I was looking for input and found this especially helpful when it comes to to mental health, handling emotional discomfort and anxiety in general. I am very much looking forward to following the 5-week lifestyle plan and see where this leads.
Thank you to Dr. Mariza Snyder and NetGalley for this ARC!
