I really enjoyed the dynamic between the MCs in this book. Ophelia was wicked smart, with the occasional tendency to let her mouth run away with her. Gaelec grew into himself a lot in the book; learning his value and sticking to his guns to protect others. His young adult life was sad AF, but he did actually rehabilitate in prison. I gotta say tho, the Obosian’s prison system needs some work. I dislike that implied death sentences are widely accepted for people who aren’t murderers. The matriarchal society on his world was balanced much like the patriarchy is in our world, with men only having perceived value until they’re in their late 30s. I liked that there were males who had scraps of power and often did awful things with that power, because it brought more complexity to the story. Power corrupts in all its forms.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: violence, gore, animal attack, imprisonment, death, misandry, grief, poverty, speciesism, corrupt political system

I really like the longer PMA stories that spend so much time on a society and the galactic politics of a match.
This one has a lot to say, and a sweet romance. Not an absolute favorite but firmly in the middle of the pack.

Here kitty kitty.......bring that spiky peen to me! LOL

Look, I love this series. It's my SFR crack. Throwing the human female into a crazy culture and seeing what happens. While falling in love with your soulmate as well, duh.

It had a touch of YA mean girls vibes, but I still was entertained and gobbled it up. I loved Gaelec and Ophelia's mission to save the lost boys.

This one focused on politics a lot more than the other ones, and yes, I know I read the series out of order, you’ll live I’ll live. It’s fine. I’m coming to terms with it. But I did enjoy this one, there was a point where I thought I was getting boring and I put it down for like two days but then I picked it up and then boom like Something drastic happened and I was like oh great action so then I finished it

Edit: now that I’m gully conscious I want to add that I wish there was more conflict in the relationship, like I know they’re soulmates and everything, but I do wish that there was more. I don’t know something of substance that actually made me believe that they were meant to be together.

DNF @ 12%.

Loved the concept (he’s an ex-convict cat alien who is super cuddly and wanting to make a better life for himself, she’s a human who is matched to him after signing up to the Prime Mating Agency) but I wasn’t vibing with the writing. The dialogue was too modern which took me out of the story.

I did flip to the end for the comeuppance scenes though.

Regine Abel is the queen of social criticism within the sci-fi genre. There's always something to learn from her stories that are clearly influenced by actual issues/systems around the world. There's always something to learn, to say, to think about the plots she chooses to explore and I think that's a wonderful way to create some self-awareness in general. Nevertheless, I think this particular story would have benefited from a more concise version of said issues because while I enjoyed most concepts, some executions didn't come to fruition.

The beginning was slower compared to other PMA stories and our MCs didn't meet until chapter 5, so the overall pace in terms of romance wasn't the best. I felt the politics of it all kind of eclipsed everything else and the romance wasn't spared from this, especially taking into account Ophelia's character was nothing more than a Manic Pixie Girl that served the hero in terms of development.

I think Gaelec's character arc was way more developed than Ophelia's. There was a resounding before and after on his part, but Ophelia read too one-dimensional. It was a shame because the beginning showed her as someone more complex with prejudices of her of her own against Gaelec and his people that had the potential to create some conflict between the couple. Nevertheless, all of that went right out of the proverbial window the instant she noticed Gaelec was hot which I found shallow on her part and was anti-climatic in terms of arc because she flipped faster than a light-switch.

Besides those issues, once again, I think the story had wonderful ideas and some of those delivered while others not really.

This was cute but somehow empty. I like this author but I wish she would push it further and not always play it so safe. She has a wonderful imagination that feels boxed in by popular opinions. Like making art for hotel rooms as opposed to making art for yourself.
I guess I should just try a different series by her.

THIS IS THE LAST KU read for me. I live in Canada and due to the trade war with Trump, I am getting rid of all things Amazon. I must say that it feels, rather freeing.

anyways, back to the book;
This one was entertaining and sweet. Cultures clash but not between the MCs. There's a fair bit of thought put into the Nazhrals' world but it still felt like a thin veneer. Maybe if the author had kept the scope of the story to something smaller we could have had the time to feel more for the characters.
His only real difference was that he looked cat-like. Mentally he was very human.
The culture was different but vilified somewhat. I would have liked to explore the idea of a matriarchy more (but a healthy one). Wouldn't Gaelec have felt the need for a female leader? I kinda wish that he had.

So yeah, basically two nice people marry and move out of his parent's basement (insert evil pride village) to start a life of their own with the insta help of other happy aliens and humans.

Everyone is happy and nice except for the villains who are narrow minded bigots.

Not a great read, but not a bad one either.

safety is good.

Five stars purrfect

Regine Abel, you’ve done it again! I didn’t think I could love the Prime Mating Agency series more, but I Married a Catman had me phurring with delight. This book is the literary equivalent of a warm blanket, a purring feline, and a healthy dose of spice. The MMC? Absolute perfection—strong, loyal, a touch of sass, and enough charm to make me wonder if intergalactic matchmaking is actually a thing. (Sign me up, PMA!)

The world-building was stellar, as always, and the challenges the characters faced together were just the right balance of heartwarming and hilarious. And let’s talk about the low-angst plot—perfect for those days when you just want to escape to a feel-good alien romance. If you're not swooning by the end, I don't know what to tell you.

Regine Abel’s books always deliver, and this one is no exception. Five shiny stars and a big, contented “meow” of approval!

A delightful and thought provoking romance!
I always wonder what troubles and concerns will pop up with two such disparate cultures in a mating. I had to laugh, because Ophelia was SO sure exactly who she’d like as a mate, but who she got was entirely different. Gaelec was worried if this would ever work, but seriously, Kayog is never wrong. I love seeing the changes in each of them as they get to know each other. Living with the Pride is quite an eye-opener! I was shocked at the way things worked, and thrilled with the way they handled the situation.
The book is well written, the story fascinating, and it had me thinking about the way we treat each other, and the preconceived notions we often bring into new relationships. Excellent reading!

This would have been rated higher like a 4, just for support of the author, but I recently finished a series of 16 that were better stories and I gave them 4’s. So I couldn’t do them dirty :)

Anyway, still a light read with complex fixes for society to run better, with some serious spice.
The dialogue gets a little sappy:

“You are touched by a higher power. Embrace your stars. They are beautiful.”

Blah blah yeah yeah

Anyway, Catman was interesting even if the society norms were heartbreaking. I will probably continue if the alien isn’t super creepy…

È visibile solo in inverno o nelle prime mattine d’estate.” I miei occhi si allargarono. “Luen?

Libro consigliato.

Alla prossima

Un saluto dalla vostra Mal

2.5 ⭐️ I’m sad to say I didn’t love this one. 😢

The hero has just been released from prison. He lives in a Pride, where matriarchs rule, women hunt, and men have a precarious position in society. When he hears that his soulmate was found, he’s initially hesitant because he doesn’t know what his future looks like.

So he’s not physically drawn to the heroine Ophelia at first and thinks she’s strange, which I didn’t really like because she’s immediately into him. There’s also OW drama in the form of a woman he was with for a year in the past. She immediately left him behind when he goes to prison, but he was in love with her and very betrayed. He’s super annoyed by her now, but I didn’t like that she was in the story a lot, trying to get him back. I prefer my ow drama from women who were never actually with the hero.

He does change his tune fast and sees Ophelia’s merits, and they do share similar thoughts of how society can change, etc.

I don’t know why, I was just not connecting to the story or the characters. These books are usually sweet, but I just felt bored. Maybe it was my mood and others would enjoy it more!

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Great addition to the series!

I really loved the first books of this series. The writing is so good, the world building is easy to latch on to, and the couples are sweet. I checked out when it seemed like the world building was becoming a more prominent plot line. No shade- this author can write!- but it didn’t pull me in the same way.

This book feels like a nod to the first few of the series, with a straightforward plot that pulls you in right away and a sweet couple who you root for right from the start. I love the intergalactic prison element and the themes about rebuilding. Great story, good spice, and a very sweet couple. Can’t wait to dive back in to the rest of the series.

Ugh, Kayog's done it again! He's never wrong you know!

Gaelec has recently been released from the prison planet Molvi and returns to his pride with the hope that they'll accept him back.
Adventure loving, philanthropist Ophelia is looking for the next exciting step in her life.

In a matriarchal society, Gaelec is treated as a pawn, with very little security in his future: further compounded when he receives a comm from Kayog, stating that Gaelec's soulmate has been identified, and will come to live with him in his pride.

This was an epic look at gender-focused societies, and how dangerous it can be to remain stagnant. I LOVED Gaelec's inner monologue regarding Ophelia, and the supporting characters (and their character dev) were amazing!

Tengo muchas opiniones encontradas.
