Somehow, I couldn’t help but smile at him. Devin was so full of life; he was shiny where I was dull, he was vibrant where I was bland. He seemed to make the world around him a little brighter, even if I didn’t necessarily mind living in the dark.

"You aren’t your disorder. You told me about all the things you don’t like and none of the things you do like"
There is always a noticeable sadness surrounding Nash Summer's books but it's a sadness that is not foreign -- one you can connect easily with, one you've certainly felt even just once in your life. And it's this simple understanding that make her stories so poignantly real.
Her characters most of the time are polar opposites but they're equally beautiful. Most often they are broken, like Jude, but Nash Summers doesn't dwell in their brokenness or make them pitiable. She makes you see the beauty in their humanity. How despite the cracks, they're still whole. I am deeply honored to see the world in the author's eyes.
If I reflect on it more and more, I realize it's a side of humanity I'm scared to lose each day. It's a side of humanity I forgot still existed. And when an author allows you to think of things in a worldly sense, going beyond the four corners of the world they've created, then it makes them successful in their job (which doesn't really feel like one) to move you, touch you, and even change you.
This is a well-written masterpiece that deserves 5 stars so easily, no questions asked.

My fear of everything and everyone kept me in this small, dark bubble of life.Damjana knows what she's talking about! :-)
