And You Think You've Had A Bad Day

City girl Breanne Mooreland gets left at the altar, takes the flight from hell to her honeymoon--alone--loses her luggage, and ends up snowed in at a Sierra mountains lodge run by the kookiest staff this side of the Addams Family. Oh, and there's a gorgeous naked man taking a shower in her suite who says he isn't going anywhere. That's just the first 24 hours. . .

Burned-out vice cop Cooper Scott is in serious need of this vacation, and he's not about to give up the only available room because an upset--okay, make that insane--woman is having a conniption fit. They'll just have to make the best of it--her side of the bed versus his. But when Cooper wakes up kissing the long, leggy Breanne, he wants to show her exactly what the honeymoon suite is intended for. But that will have to wait, because a screaming Breanne has just stumbled on a very dead body. So much for vacation. . .

DNF at 40%

I hated the hero, big time. He came across as a bully who took advantage of the situation and got flirty with the heroine over and over again. He enjoyed embarrassing and making fun of her. What a jerk! I want to punch his arrogant face!

I've had enough of this! Sorry, I can't finish it. I know I'm a picky reader, but in this case, it's totally the book, not me!!

Breanne Mooreland has had it with her run of bad luck when it comes to men, jilted at the alter she decides to go ahead and use the honeymoon retreat they had planned. She should have realized that the groom not showing up was the first sign that her life was about to go completely awry, now facing a naked man in her honeymoon suite has her running for the door.

Vice cop Cooper Scott just wanted a week to get his head in order. Having had his life in shambles over the past couple of months, he just wants to ski, relax, and maybe find a couple of ski bunnies to warm his bed. What he ends up with in return is a stunning woman who turns him down every chance she gets, a dead body, and a chance to figure out what he wants to do with the rest of his life.

Hilarious book, there are some really funny moments between Breanne and Cooper. Cooper has page swagger, his sensuality oozes through each page and you almost hope the book never ends because of it. Love Jill Shalvis, deliciously fun.

If Aussie Rules mystery was backburner quality, this books mystery quotient was practically non-existent. I just couldn't get into it at all. I don't have trouble with love at first sight books, but I just wasn't buying it in this case. Maybe because the characters seemed unrealistic. If I am supposed to believe Breanne is tough and independent, then make her act tough and independent. Don't make her cry at the drop of a hat and jump into some random guys arms every chance she gets. Being scared of the dark is understandable, but if you're used to taking care of yourself, you've probably figured out some tricks to deal with it by the time you are an adult. Unbelievable characters made the romance side of the story seem a little weird. It made the sex seem out of place, especially since there is so much of it. Every chapter has a sex scene in this book, which is fine if there was enough real interaction between the sex scenes to make me believe in the romance. But sadly there wasn't, so I tried to focus on the mystery portion of the book. Unfortunately, the mystery was pretty non-existent too.

It gets 2 stars because the writing is catching and there are some really funny moments. Shalvis can definitely write. I just wish the character development had been more consistent.

Tied for my favorite of JS's work. For a murder mystery with romance and humor I liked this story. The heroine decides to go on her honeymoon alone after she is left at the altar.
Some people said her accidently picking up the complimentary honeymoon suite lighted vibrator instead of the flashlight when the lights go out ( of course the lights go out! This is a "secluded-lodge-in-the-woods" kinda mystery) was not funny, but I was FOFLMAO. Plus, the hero is a sexy cop. :o) What book does it tie with as my favorite by JS? Aussie Rules!!

Cover lies! Cover lies! There is no puppy! lol

Get a Clue was entertaining, though. A little mystery, a lotta snow, a hunky naked man in your hotel room when you arrive. I mean. #score

The Gist: Cooper and Breanne both need an escape. Him from his job. Her from being jilted at the alter. Problem? Well, they've both been booked for the same lodge, the staff is all squirrely, there's like 8,000 feet of snow and now... a dead body in the cellar. Lordy this vacation.

Cooper and Breanne were both fun characters. He's a city cop who's feeling burned out by love and by work. Good solid man with a little wicked streak but honorable and steady. A good protector for sure. Breanne, well, the girl's been left at the alter...again. She's DONE with men. lol She was entertaining. Has some quirks and a vivid imagination and goes all flaily now and again but I enjoyed her quite a bit.

The romance was more I need to jump you real bad but it was fun as well. Some bickering and teasing and some nice steam once things settled in. I liked how they worked together, too.

Now a little different from Shalvis's norm but there was a murder mystery element since Breanne kinda stumbles on a body in her search for comfort-wine. lol And of course they're stuck in the middle of nowhere in a blizzard with no power, 4 suspicious but endearing employees and, well, a dead body that needs 'splain. I did really like the whole staff even though they were a spot odd and Shalvis had me guessing what really happened and who did it. A little twist in there, too.

Overall, a pretty good read. Fun characters and setting, a little mystery, a cozy love den for two quirky but lovely individuals.

What a dud. This was one of the silliest, "funny" romantic suspense books. The plot was totally crazy - those people in that house should have been kept to their rooms instead of roaming around, with a supposed murderer on the loose.

The heroine was one of those people who sabotages her whole life - she was left at the altar once so she proceeds to pick losers that keep living her at the altar which proves that men are not trustworthy. Snort.

The only good part of the book were the chapter headers from her diary.

A crazy cute story, as to be expected from Jill Shalvis. The chapter headers were very hilarious. I am a sucker for a comedic romance and can always count on JS for that.
Truly an enjoyable read. And the sex was very hot and wicked. That's cool copper Cooper for you.

Get a Clue by Jill Shalvis is a crazy book, with a haunted house, weird help, people disappearing, lights going off. Crazy in one word.
Breanne our heroine has just been dumped at the altar for the 3rd time. Yup, she chooses the worst men ever. She is the baby of the family and has her father and four brothers wrapped around her finger, she changes jobs frequently. So, after being dumped, braving a bumpy flight, loosing her luggage, she arrives in the middle of the night to the place she was supposed to honeymoon. Her arrival is weird, no-one is there at the entrance and then she walks into a room and into the shower where a very naked Cooper is taking a shower. Cooper is our hero, he has recently quit his job as a cop and has been sent by his brother to take some time off and clear his mind. But relaxation is not what they get. What they get is fun and mayhem and a dead-body. The staff is all cagey and seems to act all weird. There are some sexy scenes and romance seems to be going on even among the staff.
The book is all fun and the notes Breanne makes in her blackberry for herself are damn funny. A quick read.

This is a romantic comedy with some suspense thrown in, or a romantic suspense with some comedy thrown in. Either way, this is a steamy romance with suspenseful parts - a dead body, a snow-bound luxury residence, mysterious staff members, one of whom may be a murderer. It is a fun, light read and the end is a surprise.

Breanne has been left at the alter, this is her third broken engagement and she sworn off men. She takes the honeymoon trip to a secluded, private home in the high Sierras. Unfortunately the mother of all blizzards has followed her. Oh, her luggage is lost and there is a hot hunk in her shower - just what she did not want, or at least that's what she tells herself.

Cooper is the hot hunk in the shower and he is there on vacation to try and get his life together after quitting his job as a vice cop. It is lust at first sight for these two.

Fun book. Breanne has had a really bad day. She got left at the altar for the third time and decided her only option was to escape by going on her pre-paid honeymoon alone. A turbulent flight with unpleasant seatmates and lost luggage just adds to the stress. She arrives at her destination in the midst of the blizzard of the century to discover that there is a sexy man taking a shower in her room and claiming that it's his room.

Cooper is a vice cop who has reached the end of his rope. His plan for this vacation is to eat, sleep, and maybe find a couple of snow bunnies to spend some time with. The last thing he needs is a crazy woman claiming the room is hers. But he's willing to share the room...

I loved the first meeting between Breanne and Cooper. Him all wet and soapy in the shower, giving Breanne quite an eyeful, and her wielding the only weapon she could find - a bright pink, glow in the dark vibrator. There are sparks between them right away, but both are determined to resist. Cooper is not relationship material. He feels that his job and the effect it has on him is death to anything lasting. Breanne has sworn off men after her latest disaster. But while the minds are saying no, the bodies and hearts have different ideas. A platonic sharing of the bed turns into a hot make-out session before either is really awake, setting the scene for what's to come.

Things go from bad to worse when Breanne discovers a dead body. The weather being what it is, the murderer has to be someone currently in the house. But who? Shelly, the sweet and petite cook? Or Dante, the butler who looks like a street thug? Maybe Lariana, the knockout maid or Patrick, the inept handyman? The storm knocks out the power, and as Breanne and Cooper look for clues, things just don't seem to add up.

I liked Breanne and Cooper, though I will admit that Breanne had her truly flaky moments. One moment she seemed to be holding up well, and the next she was panicking in the dark. Her attraction to Cooper was strong, but she was really stubborn about her no new men rule. Her internal conversations were pretty funny as she would remind herself to stay away from him, even when she was in his arms. Cooper was pretty terrific. His burn out was real, but when the body was found, his inner cop stepped up. I loved his determination to protect Breanne, even when she was driving him nuts. I liked the development of their relationship. Cooper accepted what was happening much faster than Breanne did. He wanted to see where it would lead and sometimes got frustrated by Breanne's pulling away. Breanne is freaked out by the way Cooper makes her feel. She isn't sure how to deal with it, so she tries pushing him away by claiming what they have is just sex. I liked how Cooper finally confronted her about it and told her how he felt. Her epiphany takes a little longer but is quite satisfying when it comes.

The mystery of the dead body is both simple and complex. Each of the staff members has both means and motive, but none of them really seem the type to commit murder. There are some pretty funny moments as both Breanne and Cooper look for clues and get caught in some awkward situations. The resolution came with an unexpected twist that was heartwarming and heartwrenching at the same time.

Take the heat and sizzle from an episode of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, mix it in with the mystery from MURDER, SHE WROTE, then stir it together with a dash of the exotic from SIX FEET UNDER and what you have is Jill Shalvis's romantic-mystery-comedy, GET A CLUE. The current installment in the "Wicked" Women Whodunit series, this book is sure to make you laugh, pant, and cheer-all at the same time.

Breanne Mooreland is having a really bad day. Left standing at the altar, she decides there's only one way to get over the embarrassment of being jilted-go on her honeymoon and rack up as many expensive charges as she can on Dean "the lying rat monkey's" credit card. But the day that started out bad is about to get a lot worse, when she's forced to endure the airplane flight from hell, loses her luggage somewhere over Timbuktu, and arrives at the mountain lodge only to be snowed in by the mother of all blizzards. Then, finally entering her expensive and all-ready-paid- for-by-Dean-and-filled-with-erotic-gift-baskets honeymoon suite, she finds a naked man standing in the shower. Her shower. A man who, for all intents and purposes, has absolutely no intention of vacating the suite-with or without Breanne's permission, and whether or not she decides to stay in the suite with him.

Now the phone is dead, the electricity is out, there's only the one house for the two of them, and there's a dead body in the attic. There's also a man who looks like a member of a motorcycle gang claiming to be the butler, a missing manager, a sexy maid, and a handful of other nefarious characters running around the house-and no one seems to know what to do or how to do it.

Now naked guy, aka San Francisco Detective Cooper Scott, is feeling desperate. Not only is he unbelievably attracted to Breanne, his houseguest, but now there's a dead body to attend to, a missing manager to find, and suspects to question. Breanne's honeymoon-all ready minus the groom-isn't shaping up to be much of a vacation, and Cooper's determined to keep her safe. And it doesn't have anything to do with the pink vibrator in their suite-really.

Jill Shalvis has penned another winner, an exciting mix of action-adventure, police procedural, wickedly funny whodunit, and steamy romance. You can't go wrong picking up a copy of GET A CLUE-but don't blame me if you're disappointed when the story is over.

What a great story this is! A little on the steamy side and a little bit of suspense wrapped up into a wonderful read that I thoroughly enjoyed!

This story is about a woman named Breanne who all her life has always makes the wrong choices. Being left at the altar (THREE TIMES) she decides this final time she is giving up men, NO MORE MEN. So she uses her honeymoon to get away for a bit, ALONE in the Sierra mountains in a fully staffed lodge. That is until she stumbles upon a hottie in her shower in HER honeymoon suite who says he isn't going ANYWHERE.

Meet Conner, a sexy vice cop who is burned out from the job. When he meets Breanne he thinks she's a sexy steam pot that he wants to take to bed but that's going to have to wait a bit since they have discovered a dead man in the house.....

That's when the tables turn, this story kind of reminded me of the game "Clue".... Maybe that's why the title is "Get a Clue"???? HeHe....

Amazing story! Kept me reading it without stopping for sure.

Oh my...I just started reading this one and it's making me laugh so bad that I am afraid I will be losing some sleep again. So much for my trying to have an early night in...

*Edit: I finished reading it and I really enjoyed it. Having said that, I have to admit that I do not think it's the best book I read by Jill Shalvis, but somehow it took me on a trip down memory lane and reminded me of my own little "quirks" and things I enjoy(ed) doing such as falling in love (or lust) for the very first time, reading a whole lot of myustery novels by Agatha Christie when I was young, playing Cluedo with my friends, wanting to be tough -but throwing a fit whenever I would spot a large spider inside the house-...

Somehow "Get a Clue" really made me relive so many wonderful moments. I know, I know, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but some books just manage to trigger a feeling in a person and to me this was one of those books.

By the end of this book I thought, what the fuck?

I had not expected something like, I don't know? A murder to happen at the point halfway through the book. I actually finished this just to know who the fuck was the murderer. Okay, I nose-dived reading this without reading the damn blurb. I initially thought Get A Clue to be one of those quick, fast-paced cute chick-lit with a bit of sex in it. I've never read other works from this author, so what was I suppose to expect?

Breanne Mooreland drags her sorry ass to the Sierra mountains on a lone honeymoon trip in attempt to cheer herself up after being jilted for the third time. I don't recall waht the fuck happened but she loses her luggage and she wore heeled boots to the snowy mountains. What? Really? Wow. Breanne really needs to Get A Clue about wearing heeled boots in snow. Logical reasoning cannot be found whatsoever in Breanne's head.

After finding heaps of condoms (complementary? in a gift-basket; the lodge is a sex shack, I swear) She walks in on this guy taking a shower at her supposed booked honeymoon-suite and she just takes her time ogling him. He goes 'WTF' and she just runs out screaming. Here, we switch POVs. We learn that Cooper hasn't gotten laid in some time and he falls in lust with Breanne. Then we meet the staff: the cook Shelly, the butler Dante, the maid Lariana, maintenance guy Patrick and manager Edward (who is AWOL).

Nothing particularly 'interesting' happens except for the staff fucking each other like bunnies in respective partnerings (Lariana/Patrick, Shelly/Dante. The latter starts their romps a little later)plus Cooper and Breanne having boners for each other. Lots of 'sexual tension'. Things get 'weird' when Breanne sees a face in the dark whilst sleeping alone in her room, she freaks (because, she's totally afraid of the dark) and runs to Cooper's room for solace. I truly wonder how the fuck Brienne lost her luggage and ended up with nothing but a make-up bag and sexy negligees in her carry-on bag. Why aren't there more clothes in there? All you pack is sexy nighties and toiletries? Fuck what the fuck?! Convenient. Just convenient.

We get a murder mystery dumped on us right in the middle of the story. Turns out it's Edward, the missing manager. Breanne finds his corpse in the wine cellar and everyone freaks. Cooper drops the bomb that he's an cop (ex-cop to be exact). Everyone's a little freaked, because Cooper's a cop. Though thoroughly aware that there's a killer in their midst, Breanne and Cooper resume their little dance around the next step on their increasing sexual attraction.

Breanne has sworn off men after her wedding failure, which makes Cooper all the more hot and bothered. But her resistance proves futile when she gives in to Cooper giving what most probably be the best cunt-licking orgasm she's ever had. Everyone takes their mind off the festering corpse in the cellar and the murderer with sex. These people don't freak out. Look, there's a fucking killer out there who's most probably one of us, staying with us in this very lodge and we're snowed in, there's absolutely no signal so we can't call the cops but we can completely forget that with hot steamy sex so everything's completely fine. It's ridiculous.

Romance? What romance? Breanne and Cooper knew each other less than a few days and they fall in love with each other. After all her initial resilience with the shit men she's dated and was going to marry, she falls in love with the nearest guy who gives good head. Breanne is someone I want to punch their teeth in for being a whiny, cry-a lot, hopeless, self-wallowing piece-of-shit. How annoying can she get? She monologues about how much of an independent, strong-willed, brave woman she is. I am completely baffled by how completely different she carries herself in real life. Yes, keep thinking that you're all-of-the-above when all you ever do is feel sad that your taste in men is bad and that you're bad at sex. Yes, she tells this to Cooper and asks him to rate her. Would she get 5 stars for this? 5 for that? I can only understand her fear for the dark but it just goes so overboard with the fear and cowering under Cooper's balls I can't help but see it as a complete joke. She's a top-notch scaredy-cat.

The suspense was meh. We get Breanne hearing occasional sounds here and there. Creaking and thumping; oh, Patrick is giving Lariana the meat injection. Turns out it's nothing after all.
Okay, back to the strenous shagging.

I wasn't surprised when we find out Shelly has a special twin, Stacy whom the staff was trying to protect from evil, abusive manager Edward. So I gathered Cooper was going to have Stacy arrested when Stacy admits to killing him, but everyone else goes all, you arrest her you arrest us too. That everyone played a part in trying to hide the 'murder'. And I went, oh wow, so this is going to be it huh? Is everyone martyring now? It's a thing right?

The ending was the stupidest thing I've read in my entire life.
It ends with the 'twist' that Edward died from a heart attack, and the blood and everything else was everyone's attempt at covering up.

"It's done, then," Lariana said quietly, as everyone seemed to deflate. "Someone's going to jail."

"Yeah, you told me," Cooper said dryly. "You told me you killed him." He turned to Patrick. "And you told me you killed him." He glanced at Lariana. "You said you did it." He lifted a brow at Shelly. "You, too. Do I have it straight? You all killed him, then?"

"I knew I was fired," Shelly said. "And I think I was numb. I went to our room to pack, but then I heard him yelling again, at Stacy. When I ran into the dining room, Stacy was standing over Edward, who was on the floor. He was ..." A sob choked out of her. "Dead. He had a gash over his forehead and there were shards of a large glass vase all around him."

"I knew I had to make it look like an accident," Shelly said. "I tried to drag him to the cellar stairs. They're steep, and it seemed like a good idea to make it look like he'd fallen. So ..."

"Please don't tell the police what Stacy did,"Shelly whispered. "Please."

Cooper let out a long breath, filled with tension and unhappi-ness, while everyone waited.

Cooper tries reasoning that everyone was involved with the death. BOOM Stacy didn't hit Edward with the vase.

"He did this." Stacy stood up, clutched her chest, bugged out her eyes and stuck out her tongue, then fell sideways to the floor, gasping for breath. After three seconds of writhing, she sat up with a smile.

OMFG what the fuck. What the fuck. What the fuck.

So no-one killed Edward. But everyone tried to make it look like an accident. They wiped his blood. Evidence right there. Patrick shot a fucking hole into the body. Everyone thought Edward deserved to die. And Cooper thought it unnecessary to bring everyone into questioning because it's the most logical thing to do, even if it was a fucking heart-attack that killed the asshole. Fuck, even if these people were my friends, and I trusted that they didn't kill anybody, I'd still have them brought in for witness reports and shit like that. THEY FUCKING TRIED TO COVER UP A MURDER. JESUS CHRIST.

Oh, and it gets even better.
Right after figuring that Cooper wasn't going to arrest anyone, Brienne 'flings herself at him, fists his hair and tells him that she's falling for him hard'.

"The coroner will have to say for sure," Cooper warned. "We're only assuming heart attack, but it makes sense."

It ends with Brienne and Cooper planning their vacation provided Brienne confesses her love for him.

Unbelievable. Completely nonsense. This is such a pathetic attempt of a mystery romance. This can just be erotica with all the constant sex scenes. The lack of character interaction and development, and the lack of depth and originality. This book deserves 1.5 stars. Goddamn it, Nancy Drew has way more suspense and mystery that this shit.

Now I have to read some Karin Slaughter and Agatha Christie to purge this shit.

Ostensibly a locked room mystery, but in reality just an excuse for a bunch of sex scenes... Fluffy and silly and at times exasperating, but ultimately it was fun and exactly what it set out to be, and great for vacation.

Seriously, if you are in the mood for a steamy and extremely funny who-done-it romance, pick up this book.

No groom.
No electricity.
Stuck in a house with a naked guy.
Screwed.

GET A CLUE by Jill Shalvis was freakin' hilarious! I'd read it again in a heartbeat and it's positively in the running for my top ten reads for 2016. It had a snowy setting, a cast that reminded me of the Addams family, creepy shenanigans, a heroine jilted three times at the altar, a burned out cop desiring a serene vacation, suspense galore and a steamy romance. It's not available in audio - I wish it were - maybe that's a good thing as I'd probably laugh myself silly with it. This was the story of Cooper Scott and Breanne Mooreland.

As the story opens, Breanne has been stood up at the altar for the third time. She'd had an enchanting snowy honeymoon planned - and fully paid for - at a private lodge in the Sierra Mountains. She decides not to waste the opportunity and take the honeymoon by her lonesome. At the very least, it will get her away from her concerned family and friends at this trying time. Unfortunately, bad luck seems to be following her as the airline loses her luggage and she finds that her honeymoon suite has been double-booked. AND that's only the tip of the iceberg...

OMG, I loved both the hero and the heroine. Cooper was a cop. He's totally burned out and had quit his job just before booking this trip which was meant to be a period of rest, relaxation and hopefully include a few interludes with some willing snow bunnies. He was sexy, strong, and someone I'd want around in a scary situation.

Breanne had a history of pursuing the wrong type of man. Therefore, she's resolved to write off men entirely in the future. Then she met Cooper...

I had too many favorite scenes to mention them all - I'd almost have to post the whole book - but the couple's first meeting when our hero was in the shower was side-splitting priceless. There was a glow-in-the-dark vibrator that played prominently in that scene and some others. I'd would liken it to a comical supporting character as, whenever it appeared, I couldn't resist laughing out loud.

Seriously, if you are in the mood for a steamy and extremely funny who-done-it romance, pick up this book. Actually, you should rush to whatever brick-and-mortar or online bookstore you use and buy it now. You won't be sorry. Jill has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I've been inhaling her books as fast as I can. Everyone has been a winner; This one was classic.

Review can be seen here at Books and Swoons.

I was not prepared for Get a Clue. I thought I was getting some of Jill Shalvis’ hero who knows when to be sweet and charming and when to be demanding what-I-say-goes alpha male. I was expecting a relatable, slightly awkward, strong, girl next door type heroines, with some loveable side characters, some hot sexy times and an interesting plot. Instead, what I got was neurotic heroine whom I wanted to give a chill pill to, some kooky side characters, an all over the place plot, and a hot alpha male. I finished this book by pure determination and by lots of skimming. I think I mostly finished just because I wanted to know how it ended, yes I have masochistic tendencies apparently, and because the hero was the only person I truly care for as well as for the journal entries at the beginning of each chapter.

Our heroine, Breanne, is a tad too high strung for me. She jumps at any little noise all the while she talks she is this independent city girl who can take care of herself because she can take on the city by herself. Look, I get it, she in the woods, in a place where she doesn’t know anyone so she's scared. This city girl (me) who has never gone camping would be scared out of my mind just like Breanne. But good grief, she took everything to an extreme and I spent more time just rolling my at her antics.

I’m so surprised that this is an actual work by Shalvis. If I had read this before reading her newer work, I probably wouldn’t have read anything else by her. She has come a long way from her early work. If you want to read a Shalvis book, I’d recommend that you start with her Simply Irresistible or Animal Magnetism series instead of this standalone.

Sweet lord I'm glad this wasn't the first Jill Shalvis book I read or else I wouldn't have continued reading her books. The only thing I liked were a few lines and the journal entries.

To tell the truth, I'm not sure how this book got such reviews. Personally, I hated it.
This book *sigh* was disastrous. The characters were annoying, the plot was boring as hell, and it wasn't worth the money at all.
I downloaded this book with such high hopes. It had good reviews, it had an catching summary and the plot, which is a spin off of Clue, sounded perfect. I downloaded the sample on my kindle, read it, and went, 'Wow, this is Jill Shalvis?' I bought the book anyways, and continued to read it. I would read a bit, put it down, do something, then a day later I would pick it back up again. I felt like the book was moving at 0mph.
The main character, Breanne, was the most annoying person ever. She was constantly talking about how strong she was going to be, how independent and how brave, all the while, clinging like a scared little girl to the hero of the story, Cooper. And she wasn't scared of a murder, or anything remotely scary- it was over the dark, and the creepy thunderstorm. Seriously? Plus, the murder doesn't even happen until halfway through the book. The book was horribly bleak. Excuse me, not even bleak- completely mundane.
Just for the record, I've read some terrible books, and I've still managed to finish them. I couldn't with this book. Also for the record, my friend read it and had the same reaction. Total and utter boredom.
I was so optimistic about this book, hoping it would be exciting, fast paced and interesting. Instead, it was one of the slowest, most annoying books I've ever read.

I decided to read this book after hearing the heroine used a glow in the dark vibrator as a flashlight! How could I resist? Plus, I've heard good things about Jill Shalvis and somehow had not read any of her books yet! So I decided to remedy that straight away!

This was a fun and flirty book, very quick and easy, and delightful to read! Everything happened a little fast, but hey, with 233 pages, you have to know that going in. Immediately I like Breanne and grew to love her by the end, even though she did have THREE BROKEN ENGAGEMENTS!! At first that sounds almost unbelievable, but it's explained pretty well, and I was satisfied. Cooper is great, I can only imagine, many many times, walking into the bathroom to see him showering! It was so fun to watch these two interact, it was quick and quirky and funny and sexy, all things I love happening between my hero and heroine! Great couple to read about! And the sex - holy condom Batman!! Great sex scenes, steamy stuff!!!

The whole 'who's the killer' sort of thing was okay, I think in a longer book it could have been better, but with only 233 pages, something's gotta give, and I'd rather it be the side stuff than the main stuff. The secondary characters were okay, again, wish there was more time to develop them, but that's okay.

I would definitely recommend this to any one who likes fun and flirty and sexy stuff!

Get a Clue
3.5 Stars

Breanne Mooreland has had the worst day of her life. Her fiancé left her at the alter, the airline lost her luggage and there is a strange yet sexy naked man in her honeymoon suite. To top it all off, Breanne stumbles on a dead body and the sexy stranger is a cop ...

The quirky characters, steamy romance and modest mystery make this a surprisingly entertaining read.

Breanne and Cooper have amazing chemistry and their scenes together are hot and spicy. Nevertheless, their instalove romance requires a healthy dose of suspension of disbelief and Breanne is often clingy and freaks out at the slightest provocation. Cooper, on the other hand, is simply gorgeous.

The secondary characters are endearing although their constant sexcapades make the resort seem more like a brothel. Once the murder victim is discovered, it becomes difficult to see any of them as a killer, which makes the resolution predictable.

All in all, a cute read for anyone in the mood for something light and fun.

This was a very quick read. I'd categorize it as romantic suspense since there's a mystery along with the typical romance, but it's lighter and less stressful than most. The setting is generically spooky, a large home in the mountains which Breanne has booked for her honeymoon, although she shows up alone because she was jilted. Also booked there, by mistake apparently, is a burnt-out vice cop who needs a vacation. When the snowstorm of the century hits, the power goes out, and a dead body is found. A closeness between the main characters and the motley staff begins to develop as they investigate together, but with lots of trust issues. Breanne has sworn off men after her disaster, but she's totally attracted to Cooper (and who wouldn't be?). Shalvis creates some fun and attractive characters, set in an outlandish situation, with all of them trying to work things out, both personally and professionally. My favorite part were the notations at the beginning of each chapter, lines from Breanne's diary, which always made me laugh.

It's probably better to be prepared to avoid any strong deceptions. This is definitely not a romantic suspense, more of a romantic comedy. Yes, there's an investigation regarding a murder, but it looks more like a Cluedo game. And even the way the investigation was solved had a strong redolence of the game .
The whole story takes place over a period of 3 days, which does not help reinforce the credibility and realism of the whole, but that's not really the point there. Over-the-top and farcical comedy would be more appropriate adjectives.
The heroine, in particular, never managed to really get to me - she reminded me too much of a caricature of chick-lit character: brainless, fluffy, immature...
However once I managed to take the book not literally, I enjoyed myself reading it.

First meetings are always awesome, "Cooper Scott stood butt-a**-naked, freezing cold and dripping wet in the bathroom doorway, holding the vibrator his mystery guest had just dropped." Cooper is easily whipped where his woman is concerned, "sleep was a personal thing, something one did alone. Like jacking off. But he didn’t feel like sleeping by himself. Truthfully, he didn’t feel like sleeping at all. He just wanted to hold her and look at her. Christ, he’d turned into such a sap." Cooper is just one fine man, “princess, I love you, but I’m not risking frostbite to my favorite part of my anatomy. I have plans for that part, and plans for you—Hello,” he said when he got a dispatcher." I enjoyed this book.

A light quick fun read. A farce in two acts basically. Our heroine, Breanne Moreland is dumped at the alter for the third time and decides to go on the honeymoon by herself. Due to a highly unlikely series of events, she ends up trapped in a mountain lodge in a snowstorm in a room with a cop on hiatus, no clothes to wear, cut off from the world, and a dead body in the basement. Light and fun. Being a Jill Shalvis book, there is still a fair chunk of hot sex and funny lines to be had. Don't try to take it seriously or think too hard and you'll enjoy it. But expect it to make sense and you'll be disappointed.

Get a Clue is another fun, romantic read by Jill Shalvis with a bit of a twist – a mystery and a romance all in one read.

The crux of the story is that Breanne is left at the altar – but decides not to waste the honeymoon. Right off the bat I knew it was going to be a chuckle worthy read (if nothing else) as the airline loses Breanne’s luggage so she arrives at the lodge with only her carry-on – skimpy honeymoon attire of the boudoir nature. To make her honeymoon even more frustrating – the honeymoon suite is double booked AND Breanne did not know this until she walked in on Cooper taking a shower – in her suite no less. To make matters worse (as if they could be) – power is quickly lost at the lodge as a result of the raging snow storm outside. Yes – it does get better and even more odd (which I totally loved).

So what is Breanne to do without her suit? Or her groom? Or clothes? A meltdown of course. Sparks ignite between Breanne and Cooper and the fun just continues – both the I hate you and You are HOT kind of sparks. Which of course, I expect nothing less from a Shalvis story than the heat – even during a raging snow storm.

The staff are also confined to the lodge during this snow storm. There are certainly secrets amongst the staff, which slowly but surely Breanne and Cooper ferret out. However, this non-honeymoon turns gruesome and a wee bit creepy when a dead body is discovered at the lodge. This leads Breanne to seek out comfort and protection from Cooper – since he insists on keeping his honeymoon suite booking.

I loved the depth of the characters, which evolved slowly throughout the story. There were quite a few twists and surprises which lead to a thoroughly enjoyable read. And let’s not forget the hotness of the story. No one can write suggestive and steamy (while leaving it to the imagination of the reader) like Ms. Shalvis. There are many surprises throughout the story, which added to its depth (can’t detail here as I want each reader to discover these surprises on their own).

I absolutely loved the journal entries by Breanne at the beginning of each chapter…here are three of my favorites:

“Never agree to marry a man because he has potential. Men are not like houses; they do not make good fixer-uppers.”

“I’ve heard that men are like fine wine. They begin as grapes, and it’s up to women to stomp the shit out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with. Me, I just want to do the stomping.”

“Among the great lines of all time:

1. This won’t hurt a bit.

2. The check’s in the mail.

3. I swear I won’t c**e in your mouth.

And…. The granddaddy of them all (in my humble opinion):

4. I love you (this is the most troublesome).”

Who would have thought one could enjoy a murder mystery while laughing due to the right amount of humor and swooning with the right amount of romance thrown in? I must say that this title ranks right up there with respect to the titles I have read from Ms. Shalvis.
