Juliana Wight is a Scottish-American author of Scottish Romance books. She started writing when she was still a teenager, and after a fateful night with her father, she decided that all she wanted to focus on was narrating stories around the beauty of the Scottish Highlands.
The reviews that she receives praise the development of her characters, the plot twists in her novels, and the beautiful scenery of Scotland.
She lives in Boston, Massachusetts with her husband, Jonathan, and her daughter. Before Juliana started publishing her novels she worked as an HR in a company. While she enjoyed her previous job, it was a dream come true to become an author and she would do anything to achieve that.
For years clans Allan and Galbraith have been allied in a war against Clan Ballentine. Now Isla Galbraith, sister to Laird Gregory, is trying hard to find a way to stop an attack on her clan’s castle by the Ballentine forces that are camped not too far away. Indeed, she thinks that they should not be the target at all but that it should fall to Clan Allan who started the feud. She finally decides that she will infiltrate the Ballentine forces and kill the laird so that her brother would come to no harm.
Isla’s attempt does not fare well when she is overpowered, tied up, and claimed as his prisoner. Then she is surprised to hear that the next step is to pay a visit to her own home! She is even more shocked when Ewan takes her and a few men to seek out her brother so that they can talk about peace rather than war. But Gregory stubbornly rejects, and Ewan is forced to lay siege and starve them out.
As the siege continues week after week, Ewan and Ilsa become closer, and he tells her about how the war began with the Allan clan, about how his sister Deidre was kidnapped and held histage in the Allan dungeon before he was able to rescue her, and that he thinks Allan will try to overtake both the Galbraith and Ballentine clans. At the same time, he sends men out to see if there is anyone who can confirm the chatter about a secret back entrance into the castle.
What a braw Scottish tale Juliana Wight has penned featuring two wonderfully crafted enemies who meet on the battlefield and become lovers under incredibly dangerous circumstances. The plot is tightly woven, the battle scenes are intense to say the least, and the romantic scenes are swoon worthy. I highly recommend The Scot’s Reckless Claim to lovers of this genre, knowing that you will be just as immersed in the splendor as I was.
An army shows up near the castle. What can be done to stop war and slaughter? Ilsa, as the sister of the Laird, decides to take matters into her own hands and sneak into the enemy camp and assassinate their Laird. She didn't think things through completely, and is overpowered by him when she tries.
He keeps her (disguised as a boy for safety) by his side as they plan their strategies against the castle, never suspecting she is from there.
Proximity leads to the realization that he is not the enemy (villain) she was led to believe. Her desire to save both him and her brother from death leads to a variety of complications and dangers.
A double crossing Laird is on the way to supposedly lend assistance, but has more underhanded plans after his forecasted rout of both armies, after they have been weakened from battle.
She sneaks back into the castle to warn her brother. He still believes the falsehoods, and is awaiting reinforcement. Will she be able to convince him of his errors? Read the book to see.
Laird Ewan is determined to end this feud with Laird Allan once and for all. He is about to lay siege to The castle of Laird Gregory, an ally to Laird Allan who he believes was a partner in the kidnapping of his own sister the year before. But, he was attacked in his tent while he was sleeping only to discover the would be assassin was a woman. Isla is sister to Laird Gregory. She hatches a plan to sneak into the camp of Laird Ewan and assassinate him to prevent the upcoming attack on her clan. She did not expect to find Ewan to be a man of honor and integrity and to feel drawn to him. Secrets and lies will come to light and Ewan and Isla must determine if what they feel for each other is enough to overcome their trust issues.
This is an excellent fast paced book that keeps you reading and wondering what happens next. Isla Galbraith sets out in disguise to murder her clans enemy Laird Ewan Ballantine she didn’t expect to become his captive. Not wanting to tell him her real name she gives him a fake one and a fake reason too. The more time she spends in his company the more her feelings begin to change, she doesn’t see him as the cruel vicious Laird that she was told he was. She must somehow convince her brother Laird Gregory Galbraith of this to try and avert the impending war!! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading Juliana’s next book!! Cherie
It was a very interesting story. It had drama and romance. I dis not read the Extended epilogue. I read some of the books later. I know they live happily for awhile.
Just not for me the writing and the story and the plot was okay. I just thought it was very Bland no spice at all. The cover picture drew me in but I was disappointed I could not finish the book.
Excellent story! Its about impending battles and to try to stop it. The way its written it keeps you reading from start to finish. What a way to start a series
