Note: I was lucky to be chosen to read this as part of an ARC program. I need to preface by saying that I am critical in this review only because I can see how much passion the author put in and I want the review to be equally passionate.

This is a decent quality novel written by an independent author who I feel found the beginning and end early on, and tried to fill in the gaps writing by the seat of their pants instead of an outline before cutting some darlings that shouldn’t have been cut. I really love the premise of this book, and there are many things I see that follow the flow of a good story. There is a good sense of conclusion at the end of the novel, with just enough left open to allow for a sequel if the author desires.

With that being said, I was pulled out of the story numerous times because there were things that felt repetitive or unexplained. I don’t understand why the main character needed a familiar, where it came from, what it did, or anything else. There are times where what felt like whole chapters were repeated; I had to stop at one point and go back to confirm because a character was supposed to have left and then talked the next chapter.

I want to say this novel is perfect, and the idea and lesson behind it is a beautiful one; I wish I had been able to copy edit or beta read for this author to point these things out, because they really get to me.
