I am thoroughly enjoying this series. The back story focusing on crime organizations gives this book an air of excitement and danger. Locklyn leads a life of privilege that she is desperately trying to escape. Hunter is attempting to write his name in the history of the Pests, the crime organization he belongs to. He has dreams of changing the nature of how the organization runs while keeping those around them afraid of their power. The task that will lead him to the top position is simple - kidnap Locklyn, but how does he do that when his heart is becoming involved.

I really really enjoyed this book. This is the first of a 4 book series.
This is a dark romance surrounding a crime ring, and a wealthy family. Hunter our main character is tasked with kidnapping the daughter (locklyn) of elwell enterprises. This family business is worth billions and basically owns and runs the whole town.
He is supposed to ingratiate himself into her life so that she trusts him. Once she does - he’s going to strike.
What I loved about this story is just how slow burn it was. I despise an insta love romance and this is as slow burn as it gets. In the mean time we get to know the rest of the world, and cast of characters.
There was aspects of this that reminded me of the magnolia parks universe. A lot of dialogue, found family, and people doing bad things but in actuality have really good hearts.
I can’t wait to binge the rest of the series - and they are on KU!

so i have to be honest. this first book was mid. I found the chapters to be too long, and most things were way over detailed. I found myself becoming quite bored at times and just not caring. I didn't know some of this took place in high school, so that's my fault. The FMC got on my nerves, but I did enjoy the MMC. The main plot and point of the book, nothing happens.
will I read book 2? yes, I will continue to see if this was more of a setup book. I'm hoping for way more in book 2

3.75 Stars This book was very hard for me to get into and to keep track of all of the characters. I enjoyed the FMC chapters the most. I know this book was setting us up for the next book, so I look forward to seeing how the story continues.

Well Maizy Ren where have you been hiding! 4.5⭐️ What a fantastic start to this series! I couldn’t put this book down! She grabs your attention quickly and locks you in. I’m in love with all of the characters. The character development she gave us was chefs kiss.
Hunter is a part of an underground criminal organization called the Pests. He has been paving the way to get himself a seat at the table and to hopefully one day be the head of the Pests. After earning a seat at the table he has been given a mission. Go undercover to a private high school academy and kidnap Lockyln Elwell the heir to Elwell Enterprises. Seems easy but not when there are a group of guards accompanying her at all times. He will have to slowly earn her trust if he wants to get close enough to her. He’s also uncovered more about the organization that he works for. Seeing sides he doesn’t like.
Locklyn the only child of her family and the heir to her families enterprise. She’s 18 and even though her parents don’t give her the time of day she is smart and compassionate. She has been sheltered for her entire life and she has a better relationship with her guards than her own parents.

This book was an amazing surprise!
My plan was to read just a few chapters, but it had me hooked from the very first one, and I couldn’t put it down.
I loved the character development, the great writing, and the suspenseful, twisty plot that was simply addictive.
The best part? This is the first book in a series, and I can’t wait to keep reading!

This was a tough read. I thought the concept was intriguing but the characters fell flat for me and the pacing was incredibly slow that it took me entirely too long to complete. I would've loved to have more investment in the characters but I simply did not care much for Hunter, or Locklyn and I think it is likely due too a depth that was not executed in a way that would make me care about their outcomes. I want to pick up the second book to see how things develop but the book just didn't leave me curious. Overall a fun premise and it had its suspenseful moments but the pacing lost me.

I really enjoyed this book! It’s the first of a 4 book series. It’s a dark romance about an underground criminal organization and a wealthy family. The MMC Hunter is given the task to kidnap the daughter of a wealthy man, who is the heir to his company, in order to be the head of the Pests. This gave me all the mafia vibes! I loved the plot and the character development. There are secrets, tension, forced proximity, and enemies to lovers. The beginning was just a bit slow but took off shortly after and I devoured it! I can’t wait to jump into book 2 and see what happens next! 4⭐️

Hunter is an Informant and recently, he has sat in at the Inner Circle’s meeting and is hoping to someday be the leader. He sees them as family, and family means everything. Before that can happen, he is given a big job: kidnap Locklyn Elwell, the only child of the wealthy Elwell Enterprises, for ransom.
Locklyn Elwell doesn’t want to inherit the family business, but for now has to go along with what her distant parents dictate, even if it means taking a slap or two to the face. She has mad computer skills, which she uses to bypass the security cameras on the estate and has tried to run away several times. Her constant entourage of security guards include Dayton, who is more of a father figure than her own father. She has been homeschooled her whole life, but now her parents are sending her to Plainview Academy. At first she doesn’t have any friends, but eventually she gains the friendship and acceptance of a small group of outcasts.
Hunter tries to get close to Locklyn at school and waits for the perfect time to get her away but the more time they spend together, the less he wants to complete the job. OHHH MY GOD. I just finished The Whole Time: Part 1, and I swear I am shaking right now. This book owns me. I breathed it, devoured it, and now I don’t know what to do with myself because I NEED MORE. Maizy Ren, you evil genius, how dare you leave me hanging like this??? My soul is not okay.

I'll start with Hunter Key because WHAT THE HELL. I am obsessed. Like, fully obsessed. He’s part of the Pests, this underground criminal gang that basically runs Plainview, and he’s been working his way up the ranks, hoping to get into the Inner Circle. But then He’s given this huge job—to kidnap Locklyn Elwell, the rich, untouchable girl with a whole army of bodyguards. And at first, he’s all in. He’s ready to do whatever it takes to prove himself. But then He starts falling for her. AND IT’S KILLING ME. Watching him battle with his loyalty to the Pests while also trying to protect Locklyn had me kicking my feet, screaming into my pillow, and internally combusting!!!

And Locklyn, my girl. First of all, she is so much more than the rich princess everyone thinks she is. Her parents are the worst—they’re controlling, distant, and sometimes even violent. She doesn’t even want their company, but she has no choice. And she’s so smart. Like, she’s out here hacking security cameras just to breathe without being watched 24/7. And when she finally gets to go to Plainview Academy sge starts making friends (love them), but the whole time, Hunter is there, trying to get close to her, waiting for the perfect moment to take her.

It’s giving forbidden, it’s giving slow burn, it’s giving I’ll burn the world down for you but also I might be the reason it’s on fire. They have this pull, this undeniable connection, and the way Hunter fights it had me screaming. But Locklyn's not dumb. She knows something is off. And when things start falling apart, I was gripping my book like it was a lifeline.

This book is PERFECTION. It has the drama, the angst, the forbidden love, the suspense—EVERYTHING. And the writing was so sharp. So addictive. I felt like I was right there, like I could feel every emotion, every betrayal, every stolen moment. It’s intense, it’s twisty, and I was losing my mind the entire time! And the way it ends, I can’t even TALK ABOUT IT because I might actually pass out. My heart is in pieces, and I need Part 2!!! This is hands down one of the best books I’ve read this year. If you love high-stakes romance, bad boys with a heart, fierce heroines, and a plot that will RUIN YOU, you need this book. I will be thinking about Hunter and Locklyn until the end of time!

I'm in love with The Whole Time: Part One. I would gladly give it more than five stars. This is the type of novel that captures your soul, shakes you up, and leaves you desperate for more. Maizy Ren has craften a plot something genuinely remarkable, and I am here to experience it all.

I can't begin to explain just how wonderful The Whole Time is. I'm not talking just about a wonderful book; I'm talking about an electric, mind-blowing sensation that grabs you by the heartstrings and refuses to let go. This is a solid beginning of the series. The premise behind the plot intrigued me and definitely peeked my interest. We have organized crime, tragedies, undercover missions , and an "opposites attract" situation starting.
It is a little difficult to follow in the beginning because we're hit with so many characters, and it does become a little confusing. I unfortunately found myself not really caring about any of the side characters, however, and wished we had more development of the 2 MCs.
The pacing was kind of off. It had parts that really dragged, and the long chapters really killed me 😅. The further into the story we got, the more it held my attention, however. By the end, I definitely became more invested in Lock and Hunter's situation, and I will be continuing the series to see what happens next.

The first part of the book was so good I could not stop turning the page! I start it at 8 p.m. and before I knew it I was up until 2 a.m.! The book had me wanting to read more and more and the banter between all the characters had me laughing so hard!
“Get some paper bag. Next time she leaves a mark on your face wear one around the house until she sees you. When she tells you to take it off, say ‘I cannot be seen below par.’” 🤣
I didn’t rate it quite 5 stars because this was for sure the intro to the series and it was laying the foundation (which I can appreciate)!
The FMC was naive and sheltered which fit her character and helps in the future of the story to give her real character development as the story progressed!
This read is 100% worth it! ❤️

This book was such an interesting story. I really like the idea of a mafia type organization trying to go undercover and kidnap the daughter of the wealthiest family. If you know me, then I'm a BIG mafia girlie. I liked getting to know the characters and figuring out where things were going to go. I love how Locklyn is so book smart, but if lacking in the common sense field. And our boy Hunter, a "criminal" with a heart and some morals compared to his brothers.
I will say I wish there was more of a timeline and some more indication of when and why certain characters POVs came at certain times, but i am excited to see where this story is going in book 2 because that ending had me wanting more.

Part one of this series was a great start off to build the two very different worlds of Locklyn and Hunter. This slow burn has you yearning for more one on one scenes between the two of them and hanging onto every interaction.
I loved the other characters in the series, they all have their own unique quirks! It makes you feel like they’re your friend group.
The storyline is interesting and has you wondering how things are going to play out with the twists currently unraveling at the start.

Book 1 really opens the door to the world we’re living in. There are multiple POVs. The FMC is 18 senior year of high school and MMC is 21 and apart of an underground gang. She is his target. And she truly has no idea.
I think what I enjoyed best about this YA/new adult book was that you truly do not know all the characters motives and it leaves you guessing. Almost like your living each day as the FMC discovers life outside of the manor.

The way this book had me in a chokehold! I'm usually more into fantasy books! But this series had me from the first chapter!! The FMC and MCs banter together was one of my favorites that I've read in a long time! Without any spoilers one of my fav scenes is the party scene!! This authors writing style quickly became a favorite!!

I haven’t in months felt so connected to characters just by book/part 1. This is such a strong attaching series. Yes it has some dark moments and made me cry (several times) but Maizy Ren has such strong emotions in her writing. I will definitely continue this series and I’d recommend it 100% everytime. 🤍
