This was a pretty good primer for Ramadan, but like a lot of other books affiliated with Dawat-e-Islami, it's very oriented towards desi people who follow the Hanafi school. In fact, one could argue it's really only oriented for those within that group who are themselves affiliated with Dawat-e-Islami. Every few pages includes an anecdote about some poor soul who was too involved in "fashion", watching films, etc. before joining up with Dawat-e-Islami and becoming religious.

Dawat-e-Islami is a group devoted to the study of traditional Islam from the point of view of the Barelvi movement in South Asia, and it's very keen on giving da'wah to people of that land and their descendants in the diaspora. Keep in mind that a lot of the rulings in this book are from the Hanafi school, and the organization's other books are heavily promoted within its pages. Don't get me wrong, I think what they're doing for Islam in South Asia and the diaspora is great, I just couldn't relate personally. For instance, I couldn't join a Madani Qafilah since I don't understand Urdu, and I myself follow the Shafi'i school of fiqh.

Nonetheless, this book contains many great ayat, ahadith, and stories of saints that provide information on how you can maximize the benefits of Ramadan. I wouldn't give four stars to a book I didn't like. I definitely recommend it, provided you know what you're getting into.

The most comprehensive book on Ramadan I've read. Lots of very useful practical & motivational narrations. Easy to share many of the passages with children / younger Muslims.
Inshallah hope to use & refer to this book in every Ramadan.
