I get what the author was trying to do here, I really do, but it backfired with me. I found this boring and mundane. It was just too short to be profound and heartfelt.

I'm a hopeless romantic, through and through, but Always Plan Ahead didn't work for me and I can't in good conscious recommend it to my fellow GR friends.

"Space. The final frontier. These are the voyages of the…" Wait. Back up. Wrong. Yes, Juan and Victor are in space, but it's not fiction, it's their life. It is the twenty-second century and a research facility exists between the Earth and the Moon. Mainly to manufacture, test, and release high powered telescopes out to far reaching areas of the galaxy. Man has conquered the Moon and people live there, although mostly they are scientists and research specialists.

Victor has a PhD in engineering and designs all of Juan's telescopes for his research. Now, if you've ever spent any time around engineers you might know that they tend to be fairly black and white. Not many shades of gray in their world. Hence most people view him as cold and distant. Only his life partner, Juan, who has a PhD in astronomy, sees the gentle and caring man Victor truly is. When Juan injures his back helping to repair a telescope and is laid up for weeks, he's reminded again of all Victor's wonderful qualities. And, Victor is reminded of all of the reasons he's so madly in love with Juan.

A delightful and exciting short story, 'Always Plan Ahead' by Elizabeth Noble is a reminder to never take anything, or anyone, for granted. Thank you, Elizabeth.

Short and sweet, with a large side of humor, this is a story about "two geeks in space". Juan and Victor are both extremely qualified for their jobs, and with Victor, an engineer with a PhD, designing the telescopes for Juan, an astronomer with a PhD, to use for his deep-space research projects, they are a perfect fit.

Juan, from warm Puerto Rico, may be interested in researching stars in deep space, but he certainly does not like living on a space station. It is too cold for him by far, and he cannot wait until they finish the telescope's adjustment and can move it, and themselves, to the human base on the Moon. All his grumbling and distraction thinking about things that might warm him up lead to him not planning his next step, and he has an accident.

Victor, from Idaho, may be all grumbly on the outside and seem like a cold professor, but he loves Juan deeply and takes excellent care of him. Up to and including figuring out how they can use Juan's hoverchair a little more creatively...

If you like stories about men in space, if you enjoy reading about geeks and how they manage their relationships, and if you're looking for a very entertaining read, then you will probably like this short story.
