I admit that I had not yet stared this book because I am not a big western person (even though I did grow up Bonanza and The Rifleman). Yet, I love a book with dragons and spice. Thank goodness the Indie Bookclub is doing a buddy read this month. I am so glad I read this! It is such a mix of western, fantasy, romance, and magic/paranormal.
Grace has so much determination! She doesn’t require much, but also will not settle for anything less than she wants. She will not back down from a fight, learning a new skill, or overcoming a curse within her own body. I absolutely loved this character.
Dimin, oh what an evil, nasty man. Grace thought she was safe, thanks to Slweja, the big hearted dragon that saved her. However, evil continues to take and cannot stand being challenged.
Ignacio (Naz) oversees the land and cares for many dragons, as his family has done for generations. Can fire and ice work together to curse the curse? Will Grace live her life forever on the run? Grab this book and find out!
Maggie has written a book that had me feeling empowered, on the edge of my seat, and wanting to go out to buy some boots and some whiskey. A dragon too, but those seem to be hard to find. I wish I had read this sooner, and cannot wait for her next book.
Some of my favorite quotes:
“‘I will come to the aid of the fallen, to the expectation that I will quite possibly be ignored by the very person that I strive to help. Human decency cost nothing.” The Dragon snorted in assent, using his wing to flick the man out of [her] way.’”
“He needed for the girl to know that she had nothing to fear anymore. He needed for her to be resilient. And the world that would crush her like an ice cube, she needed to be a diamond.”
“Yee f*cking haw, b*tches!”
“I’m going to try to not picture you in your reading glasses, otherwise I might jump you.”
“He could not tame you, my whiskey in a teacup.”
“I’m so f*cking done with your patriarchal bullsh*t. You never lost me because you never had me. You never will.”
“Thinking I’m just a pretty girl and a gown was the deadliest mistake you ever made. Grossly underestimated my value.”
