Good addition to the series
4 stars

Pet concierge Mercy Jones is much more comfortable with the pets at Hush than she is with the people. But when mysterious Will Desmond checks in with his faithful companion Buster, Mercy might just have to change her opinion. Buster is adorable, but it's Will that's got her drooling.

Will is determined to do whatever it takes to have Mercy in his bed. His sensual suite was just made for seduction. The more time they spend together - the more the pair bring out the animal in each other. With all this time spent on pleasure - Will is neglecting his duties, but what will Mercy think when she realises what Will and his four legged side kick are really up to?

The latest addition to the Do Not Disturb mini-series, this book continues the fun that's to be found in the sensuous Hush hotel in Manhattan. As with all the books in this series - this book stands completely alone so you don't have to have read the others to enjoy this.

In this particular story - both Will and Mercy are stand out characters. Mercy is a girl with a past but she's sweet, determined and slightly vulnerable. Will also has a past but his continues to haunt him. Despite that he's strong, confident and delicious! Together the pair have good chemistry and the sex scenes sizzle nicely.

The story itself works well and I do enjoy seeing a man brought to his knees by love - especially when he's not expecting it! The crime/mystery element isn't too overpowering and it's not really too difficult to figure out what's going on - but that's not such a bad thing as it's the romance that really matters. My two minor complaints would be that I thought Will got a bit of a bashing during the conclusion - I didn't really think what he'd done was all that bad! And, I would have loved to see some sort of epilogue. I hate it when a book wraps up the storyline and romance and then just ends. I want to read what's going on a couple of months later!!

Anyway, this was, as I've said, a good addition to the Do Not Disturb series. It's fun, interesting and well-written. A good story to while away an afternoon. 4 stars.

Cover commentary - H is in 30s, h in late 20s. Cover appears to be a high school cheerleader and some kid who's having difficulty growing proper facial hair.

It had its moments but...

There was the whole inconsistency of the h's characterization - she's written as socially awkward in the beginning. Not shy, not suspicious; socially awkward. And yet, later she's acting perfectly normal.

The H is a reformed grifter who lies through his teeth to the h while getting into her pants.

His grandmother is out for revenge as some distant cousins who'd sent her late husband to prison are in the process of pulling a con.

It is a comedy of errors featuring the improbability of a heroine living in the closet of a crack house, having time to keep her hedge trimmed, and bouncing between being unable to talk to people and acting the consummate professional, a gypsy who broke character and abandoned his family, and of course, an old bat who resents the hell out of him going legit and while she doesn't want him to rot in prison, almost scorns his desire to avoid legal issues.

I found some of it funny, the language a bit crude for a harlequin, and well... I mostly finished it because I didn't really want to just DNF it but at the same time, I didn't want to linger - there are better books out there.

Kind of a 3.5. And reading this, I KNOW I've read this book once before, but I honestly can't remember when and I clearly hadn't reviewed it. This involves Will Desmond, a businessman who was raised in a family of grifters who is trying to prevent his thief of a grandmother from stealing something in a posh hotel. In order to go about this mission, he has to lie and con everyone in the hotel, including the very sexy pet concierge, Mercy Jones. She's had a rough life and is slow to trust, but Will earns it. But Will begins to realize that he wants a future with Mercy, but his lies have made that impossible.

This was a pretty intriguing little story. I like the characters, especially Mercy and how, even though she's emotionally scarred and shy, she's still exceptionally strong. And I totally connected to her ability to deal with animals over humans. I also liked Will's slow realization that, although he turned his back on his family and their criminal ways, It was very cleverly done. The dogs also made good characters. That being said, I was disappointed at how little Mercy and Will shared with each other about their pasts. Will knew that Mercy had a tough life, but he had none of the details, and that's something I look forward to between characters - that sharing. Also, given all of Will's transgressions and seriously, Mercy was completely justified in her anger and disappointment, she forgave him really fast. Too fast. The ending because of that felt really rushed and I wanted it to be drawn out a bit more.

Bit different than your usual romance, nothing too over the top and everything kind of just happens like in real life. The blooming love was sweet and lovely, nothing too dramatic. The sex scences were hot and detailed so in all it's a perfect female "porn".
The few things that bothered me: firstly how it was stressed that Mercy's past was nightmare/miserable/horrible and how broken she was but at the same time she gets over everything in an eyeblink and secondly Hush was an high-end hotel, meaning the pay was probably good so why the hell did she still live in such a dump. I can understand the need to save up but please c'mon.

OK, well, I'm a sucker for animals anyways...and Jo Leigh wrote so that it wasn't too cutesy you know?? Mercy and Will were an interesting couple...Will so flawed, but with so much potential. And Mercy so damaged....they really suited each other. :)
