Meg Dawson’s summer is booked. Between working at an artist pop-up booth on the waterfront, helping Ripley solve the mystery behind her foster sister’s death, and finally getting to know her father, the last thing Meg has time for is a houseguest. But Laurie’s cousin Trenton needs a place to stay and Meg’s studio is technically empty for the summer.
It seems like the perfect situation… until it isn’t. As fun as Laurie’s cousin is, Trenton is also obviously involved in something shady. Meg’s suspicions become impossible to overlook when a man dies at the front door of the Morrisey, and his last words seem to implicate Trenton as his murderer.
Meg isn’t a stranger to investigations. This time, however, she doesn’t have Detective Anthony on her side. And while Trenton may be keeping secrets, Meg believes he’s innocent. She sets out to clear his name, but when the ordeal ends in a rooftop standoff, Meg might not be able to save the day, or even everyone she loves.
Perfect for fans of Eryn Scott’s Pebble Cove Teahouse Mysteries, this new series follows Meg and a lovable cast of residents, both living and not, as they navigate strange happenings in their eccentric downtown Seattle building. While each mystery is a standalone, the series is best read in order to avoid spoilers.
Eryn Scott is the author of heartwarming cozy mysteries. Her novels feature close friendships and strong families because those are the most important things in her life -- a little humor doesn't hurt either.
She calls the Pacific Northwest home and doesn't plan on changing that anytime soon. Eryn loves to hike, horseback ride, knit, ski, and read. She believes musicals are the greatest thing since lattes, even though she's not particularly good at singing or dancing -- hey, a girl can dream, right?
Her first cozy mystery series, Pepper Brooks, is based on some of the greats in classic literature. Each book features a different author from Shakespeare to Austen. Eryn's newest series is set in a little town called Stoneybrook. The Stoneybrook Mysteries follow local jam-maker Hadley James as she solves mysteries in her town's year-round farmers market. From deceased knitters to sabotaged florists, these crafty citizens keep Hadley and her twin brother, a deputy sheriff, on their toes. Pebble Cove Teahouse Mysteries are great for readers who love a hint of paranormal with their mysteries. These books feature a tiny town tucked between craggy coastline and rocky shores with quirky characters of both the living and non-living variety. Look for new releases from all three of these series in 2022 as well as Eryn Scott's new cozy series.

4.5 Star review A Rooftop Ransom (A Murder at the Morrissey Mystery #6) by Eryn Scott
Book six in the latest series from Eryn Scott and I could not wait to dive in.
I love stories that are a bit quirky and you know when there are ghost sinvolved it’s going to be quirky and entertaining.
Meg Dawson has a lot going on over the summer , not least of which is that her house guest Trenton seems to be implicated in the recent murder at the Morrissey in downtown Seattle.
The more she learns, the more danger there is. There were numerous twists and turns within the story and I found Meg easy to relate to and I liked her. I really enjoyed this cozy mystery.
I've been eagerly awaiting this release so had to read it on Day 1! And it was just as great as the rest of the series. I love the cast of characters (even though most of the tenants weren't in this story as much as usual), I love the new character and the new relationship, and I didn't have any clue about the guilty party until it was revealed! Now to wait another 14 months for the next book!
I loved this book, although there wasn't much precipitation from the rest of the Morrissey resident's in this book. Instead most of the action takes place on the Smokey streets of Seattle. There is a reason for this and while the antics of the residents was missed it was still an entertaining book. This is because Meg is working two cases. A cold case for her ghost friends and a modern day murder that sees her helping her boyfriend's cousin. Both cases are very different but the story is so cleverly intertwined that you are never short or far from a clue or two and I loved it. The characters continue to entertaining and as Meg's secret is being slowly being revealed it can only get more so. One of my favourite series, for a very good reason and you should read it for yourself to find out why.
Meg is planning to paint in her friends pop up booth for the summer. Leaving her studio apartment free for her boyfriend's cousin Trenton to stay in while he is visiting. He's not even in the city a day before he made new friend's. A friend who offers him the deeds to an apartment. A friend Meg sees him arguing with, just hours before he is discovered dead outside the Morrissey. His final words seems to implicate Trenton. With her police contact taking herself off the case it's up to Meg and her ghostly friends to find the real killer and take Trenton of the suspect list before he can be arrested. At the same time Meg is looking in to a cold case for her ghost friends Ripley. He foster sister was found dead of an apparent drug overdose and needs Meg's help to move on. A ten year old cold case is bad enough but it proves to be slightly more difficult than just solving one death. Can Meg help with both cases? I was given this free review copy book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
The Morrisey gets a new addition when Laurie’s cousin, Trenton, moves in to Meg’s old apartment. Trent’s history of extraordinarily good luck continues as within minutes of arriving in Seattle he scores box-seat tickets to a baseball game, a deed to a condo, and a potential girlfriend. Things come crashing down when the man who gave him the condo dies outside the Morrisey implicating Trent. Detective Anthony recuses herself and the new detective has a history of racial bias. Laurie encourages Trent to let Meg investigate using her ghostly network. Meanwhile Meg has a full plate already, helping her friend at the popup gallery, getting to know her father, Wyatt, and investigating the cold case of Jade’s death for Ripley. Getting too close to the truth in both cases sees Meg and friends facing danger. Can the ghosts of Seattle come through to help?
This multilayered mystery from Eryn Scott pulls you in from page one and keeps you engaged until the end. Trenton is a fun addition to the group and his lucky lifestyle added to his appeal. The coffee ghost, Gene, describing him as having the brightest aura helped give him more depth. Meg’s relationship with Wyatt gets explored and I liked how she called him out on throwing money at things rather than actually connecting. Their subsequent bonding becomes very sweet, especially as she confesses her secret to him. Despite her past, Meg doesn’t feel entitled to Wyatt’s wealth and wants a real connection to her father. But their discussion about entitlement then gives Meg insight into both murders and how the concept of entitlement can warp people’s morals. The ghosts continue to play a big role in helping Meg and it was nice to see Ripley find ways to interact with both Laurie and Detective Anthony. Figuring out the cryptic messages behind the flower ghost’s responses helped break Jade’s case open, and I loved how both Jade and Krystal used their energy to protect Meg. With the ghosts being such a big part of Meg’s life, it was fitting that her Morrisey family learned the truth as well. As always, I’m eager for Ms. Scott’s next book to drop.
I received an ARC copy of this book, thank you Eryn Scott!
I just love love love this series and I am so happy with how things turned out in this book. We get some resolutions to Jade’s story, and of course Meg ends up putting herself in danger inadvertently again. We get to meet Laurie’s cousin, and he immediately is involved in a murder that happens on the steps of the Morrisey. I can’t explain the parts I loved without spoilers, so read below at your own caution.
*Spoilers*
First off, Trenton is a lovely new addition to the characters in this series. I am glad he is sticking around. Also how perfect is it that him and Amaya end up together? She was into Laurie, and found a close substitute who also has bad boy tendencies. Perfect match.
Secondly, the twists with the serial killer and finding out who killed Jade? I should have seen it coming but I was so surprised. I got goosebumps at the end as Jade and Krystal passing on. I am not going to be emotionally ready for when Ripley eventually moves on.
And finally the whole building finally knows about Megs gift. I’m so happy she’s finally telling more people. Amaya finally believes her too. Ugh my heart cannot take it.
Cannot wait for the next book in this series!

Meg Dawson has lots going on this summer as she is helping her ghostly friend Ripley look into the death of her foster sister. She also had intended to get to know her father, Wyatt Vandermeer, better. The two of them had only recently realized they were related, and that was after he had purchased the building she lived in. When he found out, he added all kinds of upgrades, including a new elevator, video intercoms, and air-conditioning. She hoped he wasn’t trying to buy her affection. But when Laurie’s cousin Trenton is looking for a place to stay, it seemed logical to offer Meg’s studio that will be empty since she’ll be working elsewhere during the summer in her friend Erin Bishop’s fancy pop-up shops.
When a body is found, fortunately none of the residents, Trenton is the primary suspect. Trenton obviously is hiding something, but Meg believes he is innocent of this murder. Meg and Laurie start investigating to clear Trenton of the crime while Meg also continues helping the ghosts Ripley and Jade as they try to figure out the truth of Jade’s death 20 years ago. Police at the time had blamed it on a drug overdose and closed the case. But other information would indicate it might be murder. Will justice be served for everyone? Or will they never find out what happened?
Another wonderful visit to the Morrissey and all its residents. Meg is gonna be super busy she’s helping Ripley’s foster sister find justice or trying anyway, a friend has a pop up art shop in the park which ps sounds super cool and she’s helping and painting there all summer also Laurie’s cousin is coming to visit which brings another case her way. If that wasn’t enough she and her father are trying to build a relationship. Phew just listing it all made me tired lol. Love the dual mysteries it’s busy but fun. Trenton the cousin is special and I want just like a tenth of his luck. Seriously. Super bummed that Det. Anthony is still freezing Meg out. As always I love the shenanigans and the genuine love that is the Morrissey family. Love that Meg is embracing all that she is and not so afraid to share. What an ending!! Every one of these I read straight through and then can’t wait for more this one was no exception. Love the series it’s got a super nostalgic 90’s vibe which is so right up my alley. Just a fun, funny and always entertaining read!
I absolutely adore this series by Erin Scott ,it’s got the lot. Great writing in an immersive style that always emits a smile as I read with greed . Getting up to speed with the shenanigans going on in very corner and now the rooftop . I wish this series will never stop . It’s magical and tragical and romantic too ,it has everything for the avid mystery sleuth. It’s quirk but it does work. Meg Dawson works at an artist pop up booth and when there’s a murder she’s all out to prove someone who’s shady ,innocent of this particular crime . The storytelling is sublime and compelling too . This storyline by Eryn Scott is divine . Sublime ! Well worthy of my time . I read with relish and was in my element as I read . Even though of course someone was dead the cosy feel is there and there’s some awesome characters in this too as well as all the others in the building .Cant wait to read more soon
Meg has a busy summer, but that doesn't mean she's able to avoid another mysterious death at the Morrissey. She's already trying to solve one mystery for her ghost best friend Ripley, but is drawn into a new crime that might involve her boyfriend Laurie's cousin.
Eryn did such a great job weaving the two mysteries together without making things confusing. Meg is a fun character and I really enjoy her amateur sleuthing, and it's been so nice to see how she has grown as the series progressed.
You could jump into the series with this book and 100% enjoy the cozy mystery, but I highly recommend the whole series!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
I love the Morrisey stories. Lots of threads woven together to create a tapestry of mystery, surprise and deep family connections. I love how the residents are family and the relationships are meaningful. A really happy ending!
this has to be my favourite Morrisey book yet. I stayed up wayy past my bedtime to finish reading. so much has happened but i cant form proper thoughts so hopefully a full review will come soon.
We're back with Meg and her crew at the Morrisey and our girl is taking some big steps. While telling Detective Anthony about her ability to see ghosts didn't go well (and kind of broke Meg's heart a little since she considered the detective an almost-friend), Meg has realized that hiding that big a part of herself isn't helping her. If someone can't handle her ability, it's really on them, not her. So the circle of people who know what she can do is getting bigger.
On top of that, Meg's complicated feelings about her father are finally addressed. Which is to say that Meg blurts out her fears to Wyatt and he admits that he's terrified he's going to mess things up with her. Which AWWWW. So, yeah, those two are finally talking and seem to have found their groove.
MEANWHILE, Laurie's cousin is using Meg's studio while he's in town and he's charming and lucky and somehow ends up in the middle of what could be a murder investigation. Which is how Meg's ability comes to light with him since there's no one better to help investigate a sticky death than a lady who can talk to ghosts. PLUS, Meg is working to help Jade (Ripley's ghostly foster sister) figure out the details of her death. Which is dangerous in its own right.
A charming cousin, a whole lot of spilled secrets, Laurie's unwavering support, a few new ghosts, and a lady who is right in the middle of it all. *thumbs up*
I don’t think I have the right words to convey how much I love the A Murder at the Morrisey Mystery series by author Eryn Scott. I know I’m in for something special each time I pick up an installment. A Rooftop Ransom (book 6 in the series) was no exception.
This story was a bit different from the previous books in the series. In A Rooftop Ransom, there were 2 independent mysteries to solve! Additionally, the mürders didn’t introduce a new ghost MC, but new secondary ghost characters are featured as well as some of my favorite ghost besties from past installments. I was guessing whodunnit for both mysteries until the big reveals in the final chapters!
As always, I particularly enjoy reading about FMC, Meg, and her ongoing relationship with a certain Morrisey resident. I also can’t get enough of Meg’s ghost bff Ripley and her continuing quest to discover the unfinished business keeping her Earth-side. The book ends with something that has huge implications for Meg going forward. I absolutely cannot wait to read about how it all plays out in the next story!
In the pages, you will find:
🍀A very lucky temporary resident ✌️2 mysteries to solve 🏢An apartment building with close knit residents 👻A FMC that can speak to ghosts (in a cozy way) 🚫No spice 🐶Adorable furry companions 🤯Shocking twists 📖Book 6 in the A Murder at the Morrisey Series
It's just about impossible for me to imagine a book by Eryn Scott that I don't feel is worth at least 5 stars.
This is book 6 in this series, and it just keeps getting better and better!
Meg has a lot going on - reconnecting with her dad, helping Ripley solve Jade's death, and helping a friend running an art booth on the waterfront. Meanwhile, Laurie's cousin Trenton arrives, staying in Meg's old apartment (now her studio) and becomes a suspect in a murder. Now, Meg's having to add solving THAT to her list. There's a lot going on, and parts of it are definite nail-biters!
As with the other books in the series, it's a wonderfully told story you don't want to put down, with great characters who are very relatable (even the ghosts!), and a fascinating mystery. The relationships between the characters is so well done, and there are twists and turns in the story-line as it goes on.
I am always sad to finish one of Erin's books, and am always left looking forward to the next one.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This entire series is fantastic! There are a few story lines in this book, but not in an overwhelming way. Meg meets Laurie's cousin, who winds up at the center of a mystery and some prejudice. I think this book does a good job of highlighting prejudice that does exist while focusing on other aspects of the story as well. Ripley and Jade are helping Meg with multiple cases and I really enjoy getting to know more about Jade and her background. There are also elements of the Pacific Northwest infused throughout the series. I feel like I learn a little more about the area with each book. A lot of emotions throughout this book; I cried, laughed, and really enjoyed the threading of the story lines. The ending was really good. There was a motive involved that really highlighted another issue - no spoilers- but I just love the spotlight on issues that occur in real life. I thought it was really well done with highlighting real issues without making it the entire story. I'm enjoying the newer characters and seeing how this series continues to unfold. The next book can't come soon enough!
Nutmeg and her band of mystery-solving friends, living and ghost, are back to work. Each book builds on the last, incorporating the friends and family she met in the last book into the new one. Eryn Scott includes at least two plots in every story, so while we're following one murder mystery of a dead man at her front door, Meg is also researching a cold case to help her ghost friends find closure. There is always a good chase, a near-death experience, and celebration in every book. For some reason, I found this novel to have more current topic details than those before; for instance, I never realized Meg was in a mixed-race relationship (how did I miss that?), and the looming West Coast fires impact their daily activities. It makes this fantasy-fiction seems more historical fiction with those kinds of details.
Eryn Scott writes books that are a joy to read. There are two plot lines, and both are intriguing. So there is a new character to love, two deadly villains, one really bad cop, and two instances of our hero saving our favorite characters on one day, and at least three days of paperwork and creative writing for one particular detective.
Oh, and three cheers for diligent editors, and beta readers who meticulously remove distracting errors and typos, and polish every sentence till it shines
Laurie's cousin has more good luck than most people. When he lucks his way into a sweet deal, a body is found, and he is suspect number one. Meg and Laurie work to clear his name, which has more complications than usual. There are a number of twists and turns and danger. Also, old secrets are revealed, which adds a layer of complexity to the story. This can be read as a standalone, but is an excellent series.
Love, 🧡 🧡 this series! I enjoy reading this series. Meg, Laurie, and Ripley are a great mystery team. This one broke my heart, scared 😱 me, and made me happy 😃. So much resolution for Meg and a couple of really scary moments as well. I will be anxiously waiting for the next one. “Watching a spirit pass on always felt like that moment at the end of an inhale, when your lungs are full of oxygen and your brain is a little fuzzy with the euphoria of it all.”
When Laurie’s cousin Trenton comes to visit, he seems to be either the luckiest person ever or carrying on nefarious schemes to get what he wants. When one of his benefactors is murdered outside the Morrisey, Meg begins to suspect Trenton may be involved in illegal activities. Meg’s involvement in proving Trenton innocent and helping her ghost friend solve a murder puts Meg into jeopardy.
4,5/5⭐️ I'm in love with this series! I really need to get physical versions of all of them and display them on my bookshelves. Meg and Laurie are my comfort character, they go for a walk and I feel warmth in my heart because I want such mundane things with my soulmate. And the stories are full of mystery but still cozy and cute. Can't wait for the next book!
Meg is an artist working in a pop-up booth on the waterfront in Seattle, Oregon. She is helping her friend Ripley solve the murder of Ripley's foster sister Jade. Megs father is now in her life and she is getting to know more about him. Exciting ending. Highly recommend reading.
I enjoyed meeting Meg and her friends. Loved the spirit friends! Interesting to have more than one twisty mystery to puzzle out. They really kept me guessing! These are my thoughts after enjoying an advance copy of the book.
Yes, this was the first of this series that was slow reading and took a bit to get interesting. Nevertheless, it ended with a bang! Wonderful characters and a surprising ending. Looking forward to the next in the series!
