Unseelie are vicious, heartless, and cruel, or so Merin believes. Then Tarel, an Unseelie warrior, comes to his rescue, and turns his view of the world upside down.

To escape the effects of his curse, Tarel exiled himself to the forest. He has enough issues with his own people, but he never thought he’d share his bed with a Seelie either, even if only by medical necessity. If Merin and Tarel can overcome their prejudices, they might see what a gift fate has given them.

An avid reader, E.T. finds inspiration in all her favorite genres, from mainstream romance by her favorite authors to Japanese manga and anime. To her, even the classic fairytales hold that spark of motivation and if there is one thing she has learned from her many years of writing solely for herself, it’s this: never deny the Muse, she gets cranky and pulls out the bullwhip. E.T. Malinowski is the youngest of seven girls. It was her love of reading that eventually led her to attempt writing. From there, a passion was born. She began writing romance in her early teens and, at that time, never dreamed of sharing her work with anyone. With the help of several dear friends, not to mention her ex-husband, she found the courage to take that last step towards publication. As the single mother of three rambunctious boys, finding time to write is a bit difficult. Yet E.T. manages to do it, even if it’s on break or lunch at a regular day job. She has found her place in homoerotic romance. To her, love doesn’t recognize gender boundaries and is always special. The feud, if you can call it that, between Seelie and Unseelie elves is legendary. In this story two of them meet, one wounded and close to death, and suddenly both of them are trying to deal with what they think they know about the other versus what they can see and feel. The sparks are sure to fly!

Marin is the one who stumbles into Tarel's forest, chased by goblins and heavily wounded. when he wakes up and find out his savior is an Unseelie, he freaks out. But then he starts to realize that he would have died without Tarel's help, and besides, the guy is really attractive, so where does that leave him?

Tarel has no idea why he feels so drawn to Marin. He simply had to help, and now that the stranger is better, Tarel begins to see not all may be as it seems. His curse is why he withdrew from life, but it doesn't seem to stop Marin - could his supposed arch-enemy be the solution to his problem?

If you like enemies-to-lovers stories, if you enjoy reading about men who have to confront their prejudices if they want to survive, and if you're looking for a read full of magic and heat, then you will probably like this short story.

The Free Dictionary defines unexpected as: “Coming without warning; unforeseen.” In 'Unexpected' by E.T. Malinowski, Tarel, in his wildest imagination, could never have imagined him being in love with an Seelie, a sworn enemy, but, apparently, fate does.

Taren has resigned himself to living in the forest alone where he will not have contact with anyone. He's a good guy, but he has this nasty curse which makes it very difficult to live in society. That doesn't mean he's not lonely though. His solace is broken in a dramatic way, when Taren rescues a man who is under attack, not caring who he is, that is, until he gets a good look at him. Even though the wounded man is someone he's supposed to hate, his conscience will not let Taren leave him there to die. He takes the man home with him, caring for him until he's conscious. When Marin wakes up and realizes where he is and who he is with, the real action begins with the conflict not between the two men per se, but because of the venom each has been mislead to believe about each other.

Marin, the wounded man, has been brought up with the same prejudices as Taren, to fear and hate each other's race. They are both confused, not only about their roles, i.e., Taren as caregiver and Marin as the one being taken care of, since their actions are contrary to everything they have been lead to believe. They are supposed to hate each other, but find it difficult to do so. Both feel an undeniable spark between them, an attraction they can't ignore. They try to fight it, but it's stronger than either of them. There's a lot riding on their association, but first they have to decide if it's something they want. In working out their differences, Taren and Marin find one area in which they are compatible; sex. When they begin to explore this common interest, it makes separating from each other seem impossible and they need to come up with a way to be together.

This is a short, sexy, well-written love story, in a fairy tale like setting with lots of unusual characters. There is also a moral message which is as pertinent today as it was in their world. You can't hate someone just because they are different. It pays to have an open mind. I recommend this story to anyone who likes fantasy with lots of hot sexual encounters, and a happy ending. Thanks, E.T., for this delightful tale.

Running for his life and injured, Merin stumbles upon a cabin in the middle of the forest and passes out. Tarel, an Unseelie warrior, rescues Merin and nurses him back to health. Unfortunately, when Merin wakens, he’s far from grateful to learn his mortal enemy is caring for him. He’s also confused and strangely attracted to the reclusive Tarel. Saving a Seelie isn’t something Tarel wants to do but he must and it comes with an unexpected gift when he does.

In my opinion, there just aren’t enough M/M stories out there about the Seelie and Unseelie. I LOVE this trope because there’s the enemies to lovers aspect but also because the Fey are extremely intriguing to someone like me. Either way, I liked that this story dealt with that especially since it was an Unseelie originally doing a good deed. There’s not much depth to the characters so it’s hard to really connect with them but I loved that they both discovered something during their time together. Tarel finds a cure for his curse and Merin realizes that his destiny lies in Tarel. It’s sweet and I really enjoyed that.

However, while this one had soooooooo much potential, it was hindered by the length of the story. I constantly felt like I was missing something while reading it. Like there was another story that took place before this one and we were expected to read that first. If the story would have been longer, maybe then there would have been more depth to what was going on. Besides that, since it WAS so short, there was too much sex for my tastes.

In the end, this was a good enough story. It’s short and sweet and for those who like the Fey, they’ll probably enjoy this one. It has a lot of potential and if anything, I wish it could be expanded into a novella or novel! It would be interesting to really explore the characters, their backgrounds, their biracial relationship and the tension between the two races.

Marin is chased into Tarel's woods by a pack of goblins. Just before the goblins kill him, Tarel saves Marin and obliterates the pack of goblins. Marin is a Seelie Sidhe and Tarel is Unseelie. They are sworn enemies but are instantly attracted to each other. Tarel feels compelled to heal Marin and takes him home.
This is lust at first sight. Once Marin is healed from his wounds, they proceed to go at it like bunnies. It's mentioned that Tarel is under a curse and it's broken by their soulbond. However, I still don't know the effects of the curse or why Marin is attacked by goblins in the first place. There is a lot of "telling," not "showing." I am told that Marin and Tarel hates each other but then seriously desires each other, which leads to them falling in love with each other. Their relationship is just not very believable and they are given a fairytale ending without drama. The story would benefit from a stronger background for the characters and a more polished plot.

This should have made me happy, I love fantasy, but the bad sex scenes, and not enough room for a plot meant it fell really flat and died a slow death. DNF

Fine for a short story but the author tried to pack too much in and it didn't work very well.
