After abandoning her quest for vengeance, all Ember wants is to live a peaceful life with her mother in Florida. She's haunted by what she suffered at The Artist's Gallery, but she's ready to embrace life again.
But the past isn't through with Ember, and she finds herself in the crosshairs of a very dangerous man whose reach knows no bounds.
This is, as the title states, the finale of Chase’s Entombed series. But it can be read as a standalone, as I have just proved, because I haven't read any of the first 3 books….yet!
After suffering deep trauma at the hands of The Artists Gallery, an underground society that thrives on murder as art, where she'd been lured by her depression, anxieties and desperation, Ember is out for some serious revenge. But, she soon ends up a pawn in a deadly and sinister game.
Bret kills only the sick and damaged, makes sure they can't do any more harm. He dishes out brutal punishments, deserved punishments in his eyes, until his life is turned upside down...and he's given some artistic licence.
Two killers with different motives, come together and wreak death, destruction and gnarly revenge on those who have wronged them or those who may try to stand in the way of them doing so.
Exciting and intriguing from the off, this is a high adrenaline page turner that is bloody, gore soaked, brutal, and brilliant!
It's like The Running Man, if it was hosted by Jigsaw! And ‘The Abstract’ gave me real Barker vibes!
I wish I hadn't waited so long to read Chase, I really enjoyed his writing style. A true work of art! 🖤
So I decided to do a Where Dreams are Entombed back to back read. Mainly to make sure I was in the Groove and didn't miss anything. So, I have the Creator in my TBR so I can see how this all began. At the end of Book Ember escaped the Artist’s Gallery, going back to live a normal life with her mother. Let's face it, can you blame her? She lost her nan, watched her one and only friend die horribly. Then unlocked something powerful and terrifying within herself that changed her view of art forever. That of course didn't last, I love that with every book in the series, Chase gives us a quick recap of the previous volume. Which considering the complexity of the stories is a great strategy and an amazing refresher if you are coming back to the series after a breather. We come back to Ember on a mission of Revenge, as she tracks down the remaining members of the Artist Gallery. It's clear that this whole experience has brought her entire existence and purpose into question. Ember's identity crisis is completely understandable given the trauma and tragedies she has endured in her young life. So, it was only a matter of time before the consequences of her actions finally hit home. Needless to say, the Artists Gallery are not impressed with her hit list. Targeting their members means they are losing clientele with money. So they find Brett, who I would describe as a freelance vigilante? They blackmail him into sending a message for them. One that will have a last effect on Ember, in hopes that she will either give up her crusade or come running back to them. We learn more about Brett and realise that he has a troubled past. Seeing multiple triggers that have led him to become an injustice collector. Committing murder, torture and explaining them away as retribution for a broken system. But the more we learn about Brett the more the ick sets in. As we explore a new meaning of the word mummy's boy. But there is something completely twisted about his motives for pursuing Ember. Who is going through more trauma from what she has witnessed and now has new grief staking on top of the previous. Ember now having to bury the notion of moving on, she circles back to revenge. Thinking to hell with the consequences, even with the recent warning from the Abstract. Then of course there is the appearance of Art, love the name choice by the way Chase. Bella and other characters that thicken the plot up nicely as the Artist Gallery makes one last play for Ember. She makes it clear she is not going down without a fight. Sadly it turns out that even though she has lost so much already, she has more to lose. As the final curtain call looms for this immersive and creative series. I can promise you one thing, it's a HELL of a finale.
"I have...something to show you. All the bright lights. All the beautiful glory
This is by far the most surreal, trippiest installment with the WDAE series. If you're new to the series, rest assure that reading all other installments is not a prerequisite. There are recaps. So may twists and turns with this one! I sincerely hope that this isn' the grand finale.
