The Law of the Elementari

Rate this book
Annabelle Argyle isn’t just unstable—she’s dangerous.

As one of the few omniwalkers who can wield all four elements, she’s been confined to the Aldoren base her entire life, training under the oppressive rule of Elementari law. To the Kingdom, her power is a threat that must be controlled. To the rebels in Zedara, she’s a weapon worth dying for.

When her unstable powers spark an accident, Annabelle is forced to train with Theo, an infuriatingly arrogant firewalker. But Theo has his own secrets, and when rebellion explodes across the land, Annabelle finds herself ambushed and thrust into a conflict she never asked for.

Caught between the ruthless Kingdom and the rebels who claim to fight for freedom, Annabelle discovers that both sides are hiding dangerous truths. With enemies closing in and allies she can’t trust, she faces a choice: use her power to support the rebellion, ally with the King, or forge her own path—even if it means turning against everyone she loves.

I was an ARC reader. I’m going with 4 stars because that’s what I think this book objectively deserves, but because of some personal preferences I’m leaning more towards 3 and a half stars. Let me explain.

First of all I have to say that I’m sure with a little editing some things I’m going to mention can be easily fixed - like a couple of typos I found throughout the book and some passages with useless repetitions and/or not very clear overall.

I really loved the fantasy element of the story. Even if the idea of wielding the four elements is nothing new, the way in which it was thought and the world building are really interesting. The bond with the elverkins (companions of some sort of the characters) is the most fascinating part of the book in my opinion. They are these mysterious beings that nor the reader nor the actual characters know a lot about, which is why they keep you intrigued throughout the whole book.

The author wrote amazing physical descriptions, you can really visualize what you are reading, and that’s something coming from me, as if there’s one thing I can’t stand in books are useless, long and super detailed descriptions. I usually just get bored and skip them, but in this book they are so well made that I had to read every single word. Unfortunately, this artistry in describing places and objects only made me realize more how some dialogues fall short in terms of writing instead. I’m not saying they are bad, just that the descriptions are way better than dialogues, which I think can use some more work to get on the same level.

Now, here starts the part of my review that is very much influenced by personal preferences more than actual objective critique to the book.

I liked the second half of the book way more than the first half. The chapters in the first part of the book are “”random””moments of the main character’s life, not really connected one to the other in terms of timeline: one chapter can happen like 3 weeks after the previous one. I understand that there are some moments that deserve to be explored more than others, I also understand that the world has to be built piece by piece somehow, but this choice made the storytelling in the first part of the book very fragmented to my eyes, not smooth, which didn’t help my reading experience.

Also, I think that there are some pieces of the story that are initially difficult to grasp. I get that the main character - who’s telling the story - knows and is used to some things and doesn’t feel the need to explain them thoroughly, but I, as the reader, don’t know anything about that. I need someone to tell me somehow. This made the first half of the book more difficult to read for me, as I was often left confused and had to stop to reflect and go back, wondering if I missed something. I didn’t, anyway. It’s just that the main character gives for granted a lot of pieces of information that are not so obvious to me as the reader. But then again, I understand: as I was saying before she has lived all her life with some knowledge and it makes sense that she doesn’t question or explain some things. This left me wondering if telling the whole story in first person was the right choice. Maybe it could have benefited from some chapters being told from a third person - or at least a different - POV.

Then we get to the second half of the book, and things change for the better. The pace of the story quickens, the chapters are more connected to each other, the storytelling becomes more fluent and the events start to unfold. From the moment they left Aldoren I got hooked. And I think that’s mainly because from this point onwards I didn’t feel the need to stop every few paragraphs to ask myself what was happening anymore. I followed the events along with the main character.

Overall it was a nice ride, and I’m looking forward to seeing what will happen next!

This has been the best experience ever reading this book and I'm so disappointed that this is over, but on a happier note this is only book 1 so I know there is much more to come, that there will be another chance to re-visit Annabelle and my personal favourite Theo. There are so many questions left unanswered, I just hope the wait isn't too long.

This is a debut book by Vera Cavalieri and honestly you wouldn't know it.

It's been fantastic to escape into another world, the descriptions of the world and landscape that author has created really bring the story to life.

The characters the author has created are unique and well thoughtout. They all have a backstory, which are explored in this book.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

"You've laid me to rest, and I belong to the grave you made. So you're the guest of honour, Annabelle."

A cozier version of Avatar: The Last Airbender but still packed with action and some gasping moments. The slow tension between Annabelle and Theo had me giggling because their connection was there and the conversations and slow vulnerability warmed my heart. I could well imagine how she started to feel comfortable in her own skin for once. The small 🌶️ scenes were also a bonus!

I did get a bit confused at some parts only because I felt that in some scenes there wasn't enough context jumping in, but the storyline in all was really well written and I was so invested especially in the second half.

To begin, a thank you to Booksirens and Vera for a copy of this arc. I recieved it for free and am willingly leaving the following review of my true and honest opinions.

The Law of the Elementari is a book that has an interesting premise and a magic system I quite enjoyed reading about but there were just some flaws I could not look past that prevented me from rating it higher.

Firstly, the prologue was great. It really hooked me in and got me interested in what was happening. The descriptions within set the scene well and I liked this peek of a young Annabelle who seemed mischievous even whilst alone and scared. I think this chapter best shows Vera has great skill at setting a scene.

I wish the book had continued in third person throughout as I actually found the shift to first person really took away from the writing. I didn't feel like the world or scenes being given to us were as well described or as good as that opening prologue.

There were numerous errors with phrasing, mistyped sentences and reptitive descriptions throughout that really detracted from the reading experience. There were also moments of contradiction that made it awkward to determine how a scene was actually playing out. For example, Annabelle knowing her face was giving everything away, yet less than one paragraph later saying her face was blank and she wouldn't be able to hold it much longer. Thing's like that really took me out of the story.

The dialogue between characters at times felt a bit stilted and like it was never quite flowing right. Mostly in group scenes where there were multiple characters talking. Which was a shame as I think if it was smoother, it would have shown off the characters better.

Speaking of the characters, let's delve into them a bit.

I struggled to connect to Annabelle. I found it very hard to bring myself to care for her. She is a FMC who feels like she's being moved through the story by everyone else the majority of the time and this lack of agency and her almost indifferent attitude to it made it hard to find reasons to root for her. And by the time she finally did start taking agency and planning things for herself we were over 65% into the book and I just did not care at all for her change of heart. It came so abruptly that it felt against everything we had seen from her to that point.

Delia was an interesting character. I appreciated how she clearly cared for Annabelle and wanted to avoid her feeling guilty for things she couldn't control. Seeing true friendships like that in books is always nice. I also thought other than Iris she had the most defined character motivation which I could root for, in wanting to break from her family's expectations.

Nico was someone I had no major opinions on either which way.

Theo was an MMC I actually wish we had seen more of. For someone training Annabelle it felt like we didn't see him very often or actually get to read much interaction between them in regards to training at all. Again, if the book had been in third person I think it would have been really beneficial for getting to see him truly shine but the way Annnabelle percieved him was interesting. I particularly liked this bit about him at about 21% into the book:

"Drawn and disheveled, he was both wrecked and gorgeous. Looking at him, I saw a majestic wolf, his warmth masking a deadly edge, and only trouble would come to the red hood who ventured too close."

This was a nice wee bit of writing and a good way to set what type of character he is.

Though even with those things about Theo, I didn't care for him and Annabelles relationship at all. Their conversations were stitlted and because we get what felt like very little time of them actively together, I had no excitement for the romance as it progressed.

Iris was by far my favourite character to see pop up. She was a breath of fresh air everytime she was on page. I adore reading characters like her, who are so open minded and a bit odd. And of course my heart broke for her during her pivotal moment. I would love to see a tale from her perspective.

Finally we have the world building, plot, and magic system.

I think the magic system is by far the most interesting thing about the story. The idea of cold blooded and warm blooded magic users. The partnering to an elemental being to strengthen your powers and it being the Everkin that pick you. It was a refreshingly different magic system, admist the sea of shadow powers most books nowadays contain.

The world building left a lot to be desired. It took until 43% into the story before we got a proper description of the lands, how they work and what caused changes. Which is to far into a book to get a decent decription of things in my opinion.

And this was something I struggled with throughout the book. By the 60% mark I still felt like I knew next to nothing about this world and it was only at 62% we finally got to the The Laws that kept being mentioned throughout the story. Something, yet again, I wish we had seen much earlier.

The plot was okay? It kept me reading but overall it was a bit all over the place and there were several times throughout the story where I just forgot what the point of what was happening was. Even now I can't really adequately break down this entire book as a cohesive story, more mini scenes that jumped about a lot between training and then very late game political manuvering that kind of came from no where. It mostly felt like one giant build up to the second book.

Overall I enjoyed aspects of this story for what it was, and am sad I couldn't rate it higher. I think it has a great chance of success for others, and that perhaps myself and this author just don't fully mesh in style.

Oh elements!! This was an incredible read! It is a captivating journey of self discovery, friendship, love and power dynamics — set in an original, dark academia world. Annabelle - as beautiful and haunting as her name, is a great strong female main character and her inner dialogue is super relatable. Her love interest? To die for.

This is a page turner and I need the sequel NOW!!!!

FYI I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily - I just LOVED it so much. Do yourself a favour and read it!!!

The Law of Elementari by Vera Cavalieri

Annabelle Argyle isn’t your typical heroine—she’s volatile, powerful, and absolutely magnetic. One of the rare omniwalkers who can control all four elements, she's been caged her whole life under Elementari law. But when rebellion brews and a fiery (and maddeningly attractive) new trainer named Theo enters her life, everything begins to unravel.

From secret alliances to elemental chaos, this story is full of high stakes, dark magic, and a heroine who refuses to be tamed. I loved the found family vibes, the witchy atmosphere, and the slow-burn romance that burned in all the right places. Theo + Annabelle’s forced proximity gave me life!

This is for the dark academia girlies who want danger, dorms, bonded familiars, and a strong-willed FMC with black cat energy. Think: elemental magic meets rebellion with a dash of "he falls first" and an FMC who refuses to play by the rules.

I’m so glad I picked this one up—cannot wait to see what’s next from Vera Cavalieri!

Annabelle has been an outcast and feared for her entire life until the heir to the throne, Theo, comes to train her to control her powers. He show no fear at her somewhat volatile nature. Then, when the dangers of the rebellion come for her, he is there at her side helping her escape to continue her training. However the politics of the court and fear of her nature threaten to destroy all that they are working to achieve. This book draws you in right from the start! It has a fantastical storyline with a deep and complex plot. Getting to see Theo and Annabelle being drawn together in the midst of all the schemes was so satisfying! It is a slow burn romantasy that is so exciting to watch unfold! I cannot wait to see what this series brings next!

Vera Cavalieri creates a world full of grey with a great balance between a light, easy read and some more serious notes.

Honest rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75
Spice: 🌶️.5

Read this as an ARC read and I really liked it! There were definitely some parts that I got confused with and it felt that the story went very fast at some points, but overall I love the plot.

I would suggest maybe adding a little more background because I was always confused about the elverkins and I didn’t entirely understand them, and felt that it kinda jumped the gun quickest at some parts.

I am obsessed with the storyline and it reminds me of avatar the last air bender mixed with divergent vibes! Super original writing and loved everything!!

Overall I really liked it but the jumps made it kind of hard for me to stay engaged and I found it took a lot longer to read than I would’ve liked because I was confused at some points!

A great fantasy standout. I found the story to be interesting and the magic system interesting. I would have enjoyed a bit more world building but it was solidly written and I appreciated the FMC journey.

I really wanted to like this story, I mean really, really wanted to like it. This was my first ARC and I was excited to dive in to the story.

The story itself is disjointed, and was difficult to follow at times. I'm not sure if I received a corrupted e-file of the story, or if the writing and editing was genuinely that careless. In every chapter there were inconsistences, repetitive information, and a lack of detail and depth. It felt more like reading a rough draft than a final version of a book. There are so many opportunities for the author to expand and explain the characters, motives, plot, setting, and universe and they are mostly ignored. Some examples include(minor spoilers ahead - none reveal any major plot or character development):
1. Based on geography and place names this is a made up universe, not an alternate real world. However, early on in the story a reference is made that in the "human world" Annabelle refers to a haunted doll. This suggests some link between our reality and the world of the Elementari never mentioned again.
2. In addition to controlling elements there are also indications that magic is also used, but this is never fully explained. These instances pop-up and are forgotten almost as quickly.
3. It's mentioned in the story that each Elementari get their own scent (in the form of a perfume). This is also not fully explained. What is the purpose of this? Does the timing of receiving their scent coincide with a specific event (coming into their power, finding a soulmate, etc.? Does it enhance their powers?

There are several other examples of this, but they relate more to specific plot points or character building and I don't want to ruin the plot for anyone.

There were some bright points for me throughout the story. While stilted, I liked the overall grown of the main FMC, Annabelle. I also enjoyed the few glimpses you get into the human world and how it differed from the Elementari world. Overall, reading this story felt like the author had a great idea for a story but didn't quite know how to translate the world in her head onto the page. If you are looking to support new authors, by all means pick yourself up a copy, but if you're looking for a compelling story, richly told, this book is not for you.

Cavalieri’s worldbuilding is immersive, painting a vivid society where Elementari—people bound to elemental forces—navigate a structured, often oppressive system. The novel deftly balances intricate magical mechanics with an exploration of identity, control, and the weight of expectation. Annabelle’s character is deeply compelling; she is sharp, defiant, and burdened by the fear of becoming a monster. Her inner turmoil resonates, making her more than just a prodigy of destruction—she is a young woman searching for agency in a world that sees her as both an asset and a threat.

One of the novel’s strengths is its relationships. Annabelle’s reluctant mentorship under Theo is rife with tension, their dynamic crackling with friction and a simmering intrigue. Meanwhile, her bonds with her friends, particularly the fierce and loyal Delia, add emotional depth, grounding the story in moments of levity and warmth.

The plot unfolds at a measured pace, blending intense training sequences with political maneuvering and ominous foreshadowing. The creeping threat of power surges—where Elementari lose control of their abilities, often fatally—adds a layer of urgency. The novel’s climax is particularly gripping, as Annabelle is thrust into a confrontation that forces her to reckon with both her strengths and her fears.

Cavalieri’s prose is lush and atmospheric, steeped in a gothic sensibility that enhances the novel’s moody, almost claustrophobic setting. While some exposition-heavy moments slow the pacing, they also enrich the lore and provide a strong foundation for what seems to be a larger saga.

Overall, The Law of the Elementari is a thrilling and thought-provoking read, perfect for fans of The Atlas Six and The Name of the Wind.

This book was happy, sad, exciting, eye opening, and all around such a good book. The pacing was perfect, I was never bored and was immediately sucked in from the very first page. The world building was so so good and i love the world the Cavalieri has built. I know i said this in my last review but I take it back, I would sell my soul to be able to live in this world. It was refreshing to have the FMC be the cold, brooding, standoff-ish type, while the MMC was more light-hearted and pulled her out of her shell. The only reason I took one star away was because I often had a hard time imagining the sences. I very much loved that, even though this is a debut novel for the author, she didn't shy away from controversial topics (I will get more into this in the character breakdown).

Annabelle
Our FMC, I absolutely love her so much. I have come to notice that a lot of FMC's in romantasy books and fantasy books in general have almost the exact same character flaw, the complain about their situation constantly, saying how their not strong enough or that their simply a nobody and don't have proper nobility to have influence. That is not the case for Annebelle and it so refreshing, she is a fighter and she steps up to every occasion and she rarely, if ever, complains about her situation.

Delia and Nico
These two are such good friends to Annebelle, while everyone else treats her with prejudice and fear her, these two stick by her side and protect her. Delia is such an amazing friend and honestly every single FMC deserves such a loyal, strong, and capable best friend by their side. Now for our first controversial topic, the misogyny in Delia's family masked as her brother and father trying to protect her was beautifully portrayed. It wasn't the usual way most portray misogyny and i think its so important for people to read and understand that the way in which they were trying to "protect" her was Delia's form of a gilded cage.

Iris
I connect with Iris so much. I read another review and I agree with this sentiment so much, Iris gives the vibes of luna lovegood from harry potter in all the best ways. She is very atypical and nerodivergent, but she is so so smart and has so much courage. The controversy behind her character is the stigma and prejudice towards atypical and nerodivergent people, we even see this prejudice from our FMC. I love that the author wrote more REAL character and gave this community the representation they deserve and to highlight this stigma categorized with this group of people and use her character to prove that these people are so much more than their stereotype.

Theo
Our MMC, I love that the rolls were reversed in this book and that he was actually willing to open up and share himself with the FMC. Though we still get slight touched of a dark shadow daddy side to him, we also get a man who is willing to share himself and not be super closed off and mysterious. Im trying to keep thing review spoiler free, but the sacrifices he makes for her and his understanding for what she is fighting for makes this story so much more heartbreaking.

Potax
This is where we get to discuss the topic of how someone and love another and still allow them to her hurt. I empathize with him, I think he is a great representation of a good person stuck in the cross-hairs of a corrupt government.

The magic system/political system
I am obsess with how Cavalieri has represented these and interwoven them. I love how their power connects them to the earth and how the political environment reflects the physical environment and visvera. I also loved the idea of balance and how no being is above another and how this balance is not only affected by the political sphere but also affects the environment to keep everyone and everything in check. The elverkins was such a unique idea that really add to the story and the history of the world that was created. These beings really set really set Cavalieri's world apart from any other.

I would like to thank Vera Cavalieri for allowing me to ARC her debut novel. I never mentioned this but this is my first ARC read and I couldn't be more lucky or happy for my first to be this story! Also I so desperately need the second book!!!!

Edit: I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review! Thank you to Vera Cavalieri for giving me this opportunity.

This book kept me guessing! I was hooked right away, and the fast-paced storytelling was incredible. What I really loved was the slow-burn tension between Annabelle and Theo, the few 🌶️ scenes were a bonus! Their growing relationship warmed my heart! I hope we see that relationship grow more in the next book.

The world building was immersive, but there were moments where I felt a little confused. At times, it felt like there wasn't enough context jumping into the next scene, which is why I'm giving this book 4 stars. That said, it wasn't hard to get back on track once I kept reading.

Overall, I'm a big fan of this story line and the characters. Annabelle’s character development stood out the most and was one of my favorite parts. The whole concept of this story is incredible, with strong Avatar and Fourth Wing vibes. This book left me wanting more, and I think it's a fantastic start to a new series. I'll definitely be picking up the next one as soon as it's available!

I‘ve received this ARC for free in exchange for my honest review. It‘s the first ARC I‘ve ever read, so big thank you to Vera!

So let‘s dive in! / 3 ⭐️
There were parts of the book i really enjoyed. The story felt refreshing, I haven‘t read something quite like it before. The magic system felt very unique to me and I was also a fan of the law system and generally the world it‘s set in. However the law‘s and a lot of world building were only explained / shown further into the story, which left me quite confused at some points of the story, because I felt like i was missing information to fully grasp what is happening. I felt the same with the magic system, especially in the first half of the book.
Sometimes there were repetitive descriptions, which interrupted my reading flow.

Personally I had a hard time connecting with Anabelle and Theo. For the first half of the book stuff was just happening to and with Anabelle, but it felt like she wasn‘t really actively participating in her own story, which made it quite hard for me to feel for her. For both Theo and Anabelle I wished to have a big realization moment, about how what was done to them was wrong and in fact very abusive. Maybe that will happen in the next book?
However I loved Delia and Iris, especially Iris was a very refreshing character to me!

I think the book and the story definitely have potential, but might still need a little work. If you‘re looking for a polished, perfected read this one might not be for you, but if you‘re on the look for something that‘s different from things you‘ve read before you might enjoy this one!

Don’t get me wrong! A 3 star is a GOOD book for me and I would recommend it! But since I fear not everyone share this with me it’ll probably correspond with a 4 for others, so I will give it 3,75⭐️

I was gifted this book but the author to ARC read, but it is definitely a book I would have bought myself if it was recommended to me.

First impression: I was actually really sad going into the prologue written in third person. Because I AM NOT A THIRD PERSON READER. So imagine to my surprise turning the page for the first chapter seeing it was actually a first person book. I must admit it was a nice touch having the prologue in third person. It had a nice effect setting the story up.

Having finished the book I actually think it might have been better in third person. For it to be a 4 on my rating system, I feel like some insight to the FMC was lacking and I was left wanting more. Because Annabelle was such an interesting character and the banter between her and Theo made my day.

The story and plot itself ahead so much potential and I actually feel like it lived up to it. I haven’t read a story like this before and it had me hooked right from the start. The author’s world building was GREAT. This is a really good book for readers getting into fantasy!

I would absolutely recommend this book! And Vera has promised me a second one, so you can’t find me here waiting until it releases.

Go preorder The Law Of Elementari and be a part of a world with element wielding abilities and angst.

This was an enjoyable book for me. I love the exceptional worldbuilding. The author included enough information to create this world but not enough you'll need a guidebook. It's a unique world she builds that's believable, beautiful, and dark. It's a mashup between Fourth Wing and Avatar, minus the fun-loving creatures (emphasis on the fun-loving). I liked all the characters and it is a slow burn, very slow burn but the tension and flirtations keep it entertaining. It's strangers to lovers to faux enemies? The storyline and twists were unexpected and there was so much that I didn't expect my brain to make ludicrous guesses and hopefully predictions for the next book. I do hope that most of the characters will be there, too.

Thank you Book Sirens for this Advance Reader's Copy of The Law of the Elementari. This fun, fast YA read was very enjoyable and reminded me of what is so fun about Sarah J Maas' stories. (Switch out Elementari for Fae in your mind.) It does not have all the sex or the human and Fae interactions of Maas' stories, but there are a few intimate moments. If you are looking for something fun - check your brain at the door - orphan adopted and trained by foster parent, then this book is for you.

Mix Avatar: the Last Airbender with Fourth Wing. Add some Stormlight Archive and a sprinkling of Lord of the Rings and you’ve got the fantasy world that Ms Cavaleri has created in The Law of the Elementari. Epic world building is a momentous task that takes time and attention to detail and Ms Cavaleri clearly understood the assignment.

This debut novel is impressive - there’s a bunch of subverted tropes (like grumpy x sunshine), SO much intrigue and plotting, a whole lot of characters who are clearly up to no good, and mystical forces that have their own agendas. It’s a wild ride through an exciting world - this is a trip you won’t regret.

As a long-time lover of YA fantasy, I went into The Law of the Elementari with sky-high hopes, and I can honestly say this book delivered something unique, thrilling, and incredibly immersive. Think Avatar: The Last Airbender meets Divergent, but with its own fresh magic system and an atmosphere that’s all Vera Cavalieri’s own.

The world-building is where this story immediately shines. Cavalieri’s take on elemental power—called “omniwalking” for those rare few who can wield all four—is imaginative and steeped in rich lore. The setting, the Aldoren base, felt both claustrophobic and charged with tension, perfectly mirroring the protagonist’s inner turmoil. The strict hierarchy and “Elementari law” added a dystopian edge that gave me major Divergent vibes in the best way.

The writing itself is vibrant and cinematic. There’s a flow to Cavalieri’s prose that makes the action scenes pulse with life, while the emotional moments land with real depth. Her style strikes a satisfying balance between poetic and accessible—perfect for YA readers who want a story that doesn’t talk down to them.

As for the characters—wow. The main character (no spoilers!) is layered, determined, and relatable in her struggle to understand her power and challenge the rigid society she’s grown up in. I was especially drawn to the dynamic between her and the other trainees. The relationships felt natural, full of tension, loyalty, betrayal, and even sparks of romance without overpowering the main storyline. Each supporting character had their own arc, which helped the world feel truly lived-in.

The plot kept me turning pages. While some pacing lulls appeared in the mid-section, they were quickly redeemed by explosive twists and reveals that left me stunned. The ending—no spoilers—sets things up beautifully for Book 2, and I’m already desperate to see where Cavalieri takes us next.

That said, I went into this as my first ARC from Cavalieri's and really wanted to love it—and thankfully, I did. It exceeded expectations in so many ways. If you’re into elemental magic, high-stakes training grounds, and protagonists who dare to question everything they’ve been taught, The Law of the Elementari is a must-read.

"To those forced to walk a path thy did not choose."

You know that feeling when you're 10 pages from the end of a good book, and you find yourself stalling so that the story won't be over just yet? I have spent the last two days curled up with these characters in this fantasy realm and have enjoyed every minute of it.

This debut indie novel by Vera Cavalieri is a nice retreat from everyday stresses - an escape into another world, with vivid descriptions of landscapes and intricately constructed characters that bring the story to life.

The MC - Annabelle - comes with a tragic backstory and an even more tragic current-day situation, a young orphan unceremoniously dumped into a pseudo-training encampment for those with magic. And, unfortunately, her particular brand of magic is wanted by no one. Isolated with only a couple of people she can rely upon, her world changes and she embarks on an adventure as she swaps one caged reality for another in a series of dramatic events. Friendship, betrayal, insecurities, love, loyalty, and plenty of tears and scars await readers.

"When I was alone with my thoughts, I wondered what it would be like to have an easy smile, to be glorified. But my very existence was an abomination, a wound to the soul of this society." - Annabelle

The depth found in the descriptions of the characters throughout the story leaves you feeling like 'a fly on the wall', quietly observing close by, and the worldbuilding Cavalieri put onto the pages is beautiful. The writing style was consistent and focused, drawing the scenes out in precision, though lacking in editing/proofreading prior to publication.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this fantasy adventure and look forward to sequels and other works by Cavalieri. This book is perfect for those looking for: fantasy adventure, romance, the chosen one, the secret heir, good vs. evil, reluctant hero, quest, magical systems, fantastical realms and creatures, sword & sorcery, alpha female, women's adventure, and villains.

Side note - I'm a huge fan of side characters - those that don't play a large part in the story directly but contribute to the overall understanding of the fantasy world, and I fell in love with the author's use of side characters in this book.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

“You should be wary. For those who are easily noticed, it’s wiser to appear harmless.”

The Law of the Elementari is the Fourth Wing x Avatar crossover that you didn’t even realize you were missing! While a majority of people in the kingdom can only wield one element, those who can wield all four are oppressed under Elementari law. When a rebellion surfaces, our FMC, Annabelle, must decide which side she is on. Will she betray the crown - and the prince who she has become so fond of? Will she turn rebel hoping for a better life for those like her?

I really enjoyed the magic system of this book. We don’t get a whole lot of elemental books, so this felt unique. Additionally, the author wrote a deeply nuanced MMC, who you can’t help but adore by the end of the story. The chemistry is *chef’s kiss*. Cavalieri also did a great job sprinkling in hints about Annabelle’s father, which add mystery and intrigue.

One criticism I have is the lack of character development from the FMC. By the end of the book, she still seems to not know which side she is on, what she is doing, and why. Additionally, having never killed before, Annabelle just murders someone without any internal debate or forethought. I do know there will be a second book to help with some of these things.

The bonded fairies also made me uncomfortable. The characters do not get a choice in bonding, and the fairies are morally grey at best, nefarious at worst. Basically, the FMC is stalked by a screechy little creature who tries to get her to agree to bargains.

Overall, if you loved Avatar and Fourth Wing, give this book a shot! 🔥💧🍃💨

I was given an ARC, and thank you Vera Cavalieri for it. I'm going with 4 stars. I will explain. There were many parts where I thought sentences were missing. Vera writes lovely sentences (kudos to her for that), but it's like some are missing to explain a bit more what is going on. I had to go back to see if I missed something, and then I would reread, etc. This is why it's 4 stars. The side characters are good. The magic is unique and very interesting, so way to go author for bringing something new to readers! The plot is good, and a lot happens. There is a structure to the story, so that is fine. Do I like where it is going? Probably not, but that is just my preference. The FMC is morally grey. I actually liked her in the first half of the book, and I truly was sad for everything that happened to her. I was cheering for her, and then she becomes this morally grey person with this lust for power. Wow. Fooled me. She sees the MMC being tortured at one point and does that worry her? No, because she is on a mission...to be powerful and in control of her life. Ok. I'm a sap for love stories. The MMC is shady and mysterious, and God knows what will happen with/to him. I suspect he will betray her, but she betrayed him, so I have no clue. I have never read a book in which both characters are shady, and both would betray each other, and both would do things to annoy me, the reader. So, go figure. There are readers who will love this, and this is for you. Is there spice? Not in my copy (just two short scenes). It ends on a cliffhanger.

ARC reader here :)

Soooooo "The Law of the Elementari" introduces a creative magic system and an intriguing world, but it had some flaws that held it back for me. The concept of warm- and cold-blooded magic users and their bond with elemental beings was refreshing and different. However, the world-building took too long to unfold, leaving me feeling lost at times. The laws and political structures, which play a crucial role, should have been introduced earlier and more clearly.

I struggled to connect with Annabelle as a protagonist. She often felt passive, as if she was being carried through the story rather than actively making choices. Her development came very late and felt abrupt. Similarly, her dynamic with Theo didn’t really work for me—he lacked depth, and their interactions felt somewhat stiff. In contrast, Delia and Iris stood out as strong characters, with Iris being a particular highlight. Her open-minded and unconventional personality made her a joy to read.

The writing had its strengths and weaknesses. The prologue was atmospheric and engaging, but the shift from third- to first-person narration later in the book took away some of that depth. Additionally, there were repetitive descriptions and occasional awkward phrasing that disrupted the reading flow.

Overall, this book has innovative ideas but still needs some refinement. I think the author has potential, and I’d be open to reading more from her in the future. If you're looking for something unique and don’t mind a few rough edges, it might be worth a read😄

I really enjoyed the magic system, I thought it was a very fresh new take on Avatar-esqe elemental bending, especially the hot vs cold blood. I'm excited to see how it is expanded further in the series.

The storyline is also very promising but I think the first part of the book before the location switch could have been fleshed out more, and a really good world/backstory building first intro book to the series on its own, leading into a more politics heavy second book once we have a better grasp on the world and characters as the two parts truly did feel like two different books and might be why I struggled to really connect with the FMC before the second part. I loved the MMC and can't wait to see their relationship develop further.

I think it also could have done with a very thorough edit before publishing. There were conversations between the FMC and other characters that felt abrupt or unfinished, the switch between locations felt jarring and the pacing was very rushed. There were also some spelling/punctuation/formatting mistakes and sentences that were repeated twice that could have used another set of eyes to quickly patch up.

Overall, I give this book 3 stars - it has a really good premise and a very interesting twist on a widely beloved magic system but it's inconsistent editing let it down. However I'm invested enough that I'm looking forward to seeing how the series continues.

I am grateful to have received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review based on my own honest opinions voluntarily.

Need a new book recommendation??? Check this out

As an ARC reader I had the opportunity to devour this book… I have questions and I need more. I need book 2. Which is crazy because book 1 just went live !

Absolutely amazing read, I was engaged and curius about what was to happen next. Lovers turned Enemies … simply beautiful.

I was a little confused at first as the storyline progressed. There were moments when I wanted more than what was on the pages from pure curiosity. The book is good and there is attention to details, scenery is described so beautifully I was able to conjure the imagines in my head with no problem.

The romance in the book was sweet, very vanilla. However, I do wish there was more … build up? I feel like it was expected but the building wasn’t there, one moment there was just undeniable tension and chemistry. Definitely not a slow burn but I can’t wait to see what happens.

The cover is gorgeous and gives literally nothing away but perks your interest.

I am very indifferent towards this book. I had a hard time getting into it, it took me towards chapter 12 to get fully into it. Towards the end I started skimming it.

The characters:
In the beginning I didn’t like the main character, she is an average student that while the book keeps telling you is stronger then she seems, absolutely doesn’t feel like it. Personally i thought her to be a bit boring and disinterested in the world around her.
I liked the best friend much more, but that is because she is more of a talkative person that seems way more strong and supportive the the mc.
The main love interest was well written and i liked him, he seems to play by the rules a lot.

The story:
In my opinion most of it is setting up for the next book and it is a lot of worldbuilding, with in the middle a bit of “downtime” that allows for the romance subplot.

Overall it felt like an average read to me, with some interesting moments.

This is a romantasy about chosen family, a unique magic system, and political intrigue.

Our FMC, Annabelle, is a young woman who was taken in at a young age by the leader of a training island for elemental magic users. She is strong and i found her a likable character. She at times, is swept along being a victim but slowly finds her footing.

Our MMC Theo is a young man, the son of the ruler sent to help train her when no one else was succeeding. I would love to have seen more from his perspective, but he was a really interesting character, torn between the crown and its expectations and what he knows is right.

The magic system was really interesting. It revolves around cold-blooded and warm-blooded magic that harnesses an elemental system and can eventually bond to a creature called an Everkin that picks you. It was a unique magic system.

Delia is Annabelle's best friend i liked the dynamic she brought, but Iris was a favourite. I loved every time she was on the page, such an open-minded, quirky character. I'd love to read a book about her story one day.

I read this later than some other reviewers so i suspect some more editing had been done as i didnt notice many glaring spelling or repetitive statements.

Thank you for this ARC edition, all opinions are my own.
