She was the saint of the neighborhood. Then somebody knocked her off.
Charlie North thought he was living in a quiet, safe suburban neighborhood—the kind with nice lawns, helpful neighbors, and the occasional bake sale. But then, neighbors get knocked off left and right.
The cops are baffled. The neighbors panic. The HOA forms a watch patrol. They raise money for their version of Paladin. Charlie, Ben, Pettise, and the crew set out to nail the killer. Just when they think they’ve got their man, he ends up on a slab at the morgue.
If you happen to be the friendly neighbor type or, heaven forbid, a miserable, cranky one, it doesn’t really make much difference in Charlie’s neighborhood—you could be next.
There is a rousing showdown in an old lady’s musty basement with old furniture and a room full of new packages of toilet paper where everything becomes clear and safe, at least for the moment.
This is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud mystery with heart, sass, and just enough danger to keep you guessing. Perfect for fans of Richard Osman, Robert Thorogood, Peter Boland, and Janet Evanovich.
This is a fast read. Old guys like things fast.

"I can't believe I've turned into a typical old man. I can't believe it. I was young just minutes ago."
I wish I had uttered that. I didn't, but I feel it. (Attribute that quote to an American illustrator, Maurice Sendak.)
So, not accepting that I've turned into a typical old man, I wrote a mystery involving some nifty old guys, "Who's Killing All My Old Girlfriends."
I sent the manuscript to a bunch of test readers—all old men and a few old women. They loved it. They wanted to read the sequel. Even before publishing "Who's Killing All My Old Girlfriends," I wrote a sequel. "Who's Killing the Fountain of Youth."
More rave reviews came from my test readers, all oldsters.
If you're over 50 years old, I suspect that you'd enjoy these two novels. If you're under the age of 50 and have a favorite grandpa, you'd also probably like these adventures.
You might as well get started. I'm now writing the third book in the series, "Who's Killing All the Good Old Bank Robbers." So, get crackin', you'll have fun.
This was a Goodreads Giveaway for me. A humorous mystery with a fun cast of characters. Charlie, Ben, and Jane find themselves wrapped up in a messy, murderous neighborhood scheme. This is the 8th book in the "The Old Guys Murder Mystery" series, and I have not read any others. It seems that Charlie, Ben, and Jane have met over previous mysteries and formed a strong friendship. This book is entertaining and quirky with topics of golf, dinosaurs, antiques, Nicolas Cage (always a plus in my book), and oddly The Wizard of Oz.
If you are looking for a fast-paced, funny, mystery for an older guy in your life, I would recommend this series. My dad would enjoy reading this and would relate to a lot of the references and thoughts! I enjoyed it! I always enjoy being surprised by something different!
As an "old lady" myself (at 74), I've enjoyed all the books in this series. I was looking forward to this one and the author didn't disappoint! I absolutely love Charlie and Ben and all their friends. The banter between these two guys is charming and hilarious and we can only hope we'll have a wonderful person by our side as we age. Thanks again, Mr. Spoelstra, for all the beautiful and funny quotes at the beginning of each chapter. I especially like the quotes from Chapter 12 and 17. I've already copied them onto my notebook on my computer screen as a constant reminder. Looking forward to learning more about "Mushroom Houses" in the next book!
Reminds me of Agatha Cristie's work. A cozy if you will murder mystery. Only quite a few Murders of the elderly in a small neighborhood. Some know each other, play golf or visit, others are estranged. One is a Murder Mystery Author, another an ex-detective. And a few just nosey get together and try to solve these Murders that even have the local police at a slump. All of them are shot between the eyes, so it's apparent the same suspect and they are all tied in some how as to the why. It's interesting what this group gets away with in their sleuthing. Did not guess who the killer was till it was reviewed. The end was a kicker. Goodreads.
"Who's Killing My Old Neighbors?" felt like stepping into one of those classic comedy/mystery capers, with a lighthearted tone layered over a whodunit. I enjoyed following Charlie, Ben, and Jane as they bumbled their way toward uncovering the truth. While it was fun and nostalgic, it didn’t quite hook me the whole way through, but it still made for an entertaining read.
Jon Spoelstra Never Disappoints When it Comes to an Exciting Mystery
I love Jon Spoelstra's books. This is number 8 and they are never boring or even close to the same. The characters are amazing and very well developed. The murderer is always a complete surprise. One of my favorite authors, I can't wait to get the next book in the series. Thanks for the adventure. Don't miss this excellent series!
Thanks again to Goodreads for my complimentary copy of this enjoyable book. It’s a light-hearted geezer mystery with heart and humor full of likable characters. I usually like to read a series from the beginning but had no trouble jumping in with this, which is #8, and I feel sure I would enjoy picking up some of the earlier titles as well. The quotes at the start of each chapter were real gems that just added to the fun.
This book was so engaging I flew right through it. I was very surprised by the murder reveal. I had been getting better at who did it lately. Every chapter started with a quote ( by someone famous and probably old themselves ) on aging or old age. There is another book in the series coming out in 2026. I’m hoping to read that one also.
Another charming book from this author. The mysteries are always good…I was surprised at “ who done it “, and am looking forward to the next installment in the series. As a senior myself, I feel like I’ve met these guys. Lol.
Love This Series! This has been one of my favorite series! Most enjoyable! For some reason, this one didn't seem to flow as well as the previous books - there were some awkward phrasings that made it seem stilted or repetitive. Looking forward to the next one, though!
This is the first Old Guys Murder Mystery book I’ve read and I really enjoyed it. It took me a little while to get used to the writing style as I hadn’t read one so conversational before.
I love the two main characters and how well they know each other, their predictability and habits. I found myself laughing at them as their behavior and actions are relatable particularly, if you are or know someone who is older. Lol
It was entertaining and although it’s my first book in collection it won’t be my last.
