I'm a little disappointed here. This is definitely not the best book I've read on granny squares and the ones in this book skew more towards pictorial than geometric. Reading through this book made me realize I like those more "traditional" granny squares. Each square is represented by a photo, a stitch chart or graphic, and written out row/round directions. If you haven't done many granny squares this book would be one, of many, to take a look at.

My girlfriend got this for me for my birthday (Aug.) and I’m now finished reading/practicing these patterns. It is easy to follow and the patterns are explicitly written. The variety of themes and styles are the cherry on top!
