Eternal Oath Saga #2

The Alpha's Crimson Vow

Rate this book
I needed a fake boyfriend. He needed revenge. Neither of us expected a baby.

Katherine
Becoming CEO was my victory—until my family handed me over to a greedy businessman.
But clearly, I have my own "Romeo" plan—Alex, the quiet janitor with sculpted abs—the perfect fake boyfriend.

Safe... Simple... A perfect lie.
Until the elevator lost power.
Until he pressed my back against steel, his breath scorching my ear. “Mate.”

Kiss...Touch...A carefully laid trap.
I thought our game turned into something real.
Until the cold truth hit To him, I’m a chess piece. Leverage.

So I tore up our contract and carved him out of my life.

Alex
I had a plan.
Step infiltrate her empire.
Step use her company for my revenge.
Then she bit my lip, and the taste of blood ignited my fangs.

Her fury was sweeter than any crown. Her breathless gasps turned me into something feral.
I could’ve claimed her, kept her—until I saw the enemy waiting outside.
Leaving wasn’t a choice. It was the only way to rip them apart before they tore her to pieces.

Reclaiming my throne? That was just a distraction.
Now she builds walls between us, but the cracks bleed
The way her fingers shield her stomach in boardrooms.

My wolf is howling.
She’s hiding the one thing I was never meant to lose.

Just got really depressed over a competent woman in business getting destroyed by the patriarchy.
And, one of the old f**ts who survives the happy ending clear out of the worst at the end is doing white collar crimes in a follow up book and getting threatened with exposure but getting away with it.

And when I read a book like this I think maybe you aren’t actually good at your job being the boss because you failed to recognise that you couldn’t get anything done without buy in from your senior people, and why do I want to read a business romance anyway?

I’m mostly enjoying this author but this book fell very flat.

3.5/5: a low-stakes follow up

One word: Underwhelming.

I tried. I really did, but unfortunately I did find myself skimming this one. Alex and Katherine’s chemistry was lacking and their “fall out”even more so. The first book just had more fleshed out characters and storyline. This feels like a transitional book or a novella. Maybe it’s because it’s set in a corporate setting that made it easier to detach from the story. You expect romantasy and over half of the book is just corporate politics, schemes, and intrigue. It read like a contemporary romance completely defeating the purpose of romance fantasy.

Katherine and Alex are a perfect example of unequal level of playing field. Even though she’s “CEO” Katherine really had her man fix everything for her. Hard as she did try to be all “girlboss” I’ve not read a single instance in which she was able to accomplish something on her own. So, by the time she was betrayed with a new mysterious revelation and a company in trouble, she was already deeply disadvantaged compared to Alex and even more so when he swoops in and saves her company from bankruptcy.

Her attempts at pushing him away was meek, half-hearted and at times annoying (terminating a partnership that saved your company just because the guy hurt your feelings and you don’t want to see him? Grow up.) Yes, her board of directors were misogynistic as heck, but some of the decisions she was making were kind of proving their point that she was in need of guidance since she was making irrational business decisions based on her heightened emotions. Don’t get me wrong, her family elders and uncle can all suck lemons for being pruny relics stuck in the past, but I just wish she was more logical and ruthless in her approach.

I wasn’t able to connect with Katherine as a character. She showed pride where she really couldn’t afford it so the impact was a lot less than what she intended. I mean I feel bad she was used as a pawn unbeknownst to her, but in my opinion the degree of “betrayal” didn’t really warrant the unnecessarily dramatic reaction she had three months later. As for Alex, he was being the typical disappointing man so nothing new there. Generic dialogue, storyline, and characters is the trifecta that can really bury a book. I will say that my fave are cameos from characters from the first book. Love me some Alice Kassel (née Lane.)

Lost in a World of Shifters and Betrayal: Another Jaymin Snow Masterpiece
Having devoured two of Jaymin Snow's books, I can confidently say she has a knack for pulling readers into captivating worlds brimming with danger, romance, and complex characters. Her stories are more than just entertainment; they're immersive experiences that keep you guessing until the very last page. This latest read was no exception.

The story plunges us into the life of Katherine, a woman who, while aware of the existence of shifters, never imagined they would directly impact her life. Suddenly, she's not just observing from afar; she's entangled in their world, thrust into danger she never anticipated. The stakes are high, with her very life threatened by the intricate power struggles within the shifter community.

But the plot thickens beyond the supernatural realm. Katherine also faces a terrifying prospect within her own family business: the possibility that someone close to her wants her dead. This twin threat creates a whirlwind of paranoia and uncertainty. Who can she trust? How can she navigate the treacherous landscape of both the shifter world and her own family without becoming a casualty?

Snow masterfully crafts a narrative filled with unexpected twists and turns. Just when you think you have a handle on the situation, a new betrayal or attack throws everything into chaos. The constant suspense is addictive, fueling an insatiable desire to keep reading. I found myself eagerly flipping pages late into the night, completely absorbed in Katherine's struggle and reluctant to return to the "real world."

The brilliance of this book lies not just in its exciting plot, but also in its ability to keep the reader guessing. The author skillfully plants seeds of doubt, making you question the motives of every character. This constant feeling of unease elevates the reading experience, making it all the more compelling.

In conclusion, this Jaymin Snow novel is a thrilling ride from beginning to end. It's a testament to her talent for crafting engaging stories with complex characters, intriguing plots, and a healthy dose of suspense. Now, with the final page turned, I find myself eagerly anticipating my next journey into the worlds created by Jaymin Snow! I can't wait to dive into another one of her books and lose myself in a new adventure.

Good

This second book in the series, is a standalone story featuring one of the best friends of Alice, the heroine from book one. We actually get several cameo appearances from her too, which was fun.
This book deals with Katherine and Alex, a CEO in her father’s firm, and a janitor who is more than he seems to be.
Katherine is struggling as the CEO, not because she’s incapable, but because her family and the board members, are forever trying to cause problems. It’s the machinations of her uncle Lawrence, that convince Kate to ask Alex, a kindly janitor, to pose as her fake boyfriend, and it’s the plotting of her cousin Frank that cause her difficulties.
Meanwhile, Alex has his own reasons for being where he is, and he has plenty of secrets he’s trying to keep too. It doesn’t help that his attraction towards Kate is a natural and fated one!
Although we get to see Alice in her role as queen of the American wolves, the main wolves in this book are actually from the European branch, though they are just as corrupted and deceiving- but then again, so are the humans in the story.

This is an enjoyable, and quite twisty paranormal romance, and an excellent follow up to the first book in the series. It’s fairly fast paced, with some action, a little romance, and lots of secrets, lies, and unnecessary actions taken trying to protect the other person- perfect for those PNR readers who enjoy a little angst, and controlling alphas!

DNF at 63%. Katherine and Alex.
I really enjoyed the first book of the series and was looking forward to this one. I had to stop at 63%. At this point we don’t know much of Alex or his point of view. There have been two maybe three chapters from his POV. They spent time together, but the reader doesn’t really witness the connection. It was from Katherine’s point of view, and she stated that they sat and talked and had easy flowing conversation and a good connection. I don’t feel invested in the couple. Right now, Alex feels like a robot to me due to them minimal POV and speaking from him. He keeps asking to speak to her to explain and she keeps saying no and walking away. And the company that she has is almost laughable. There’s no explanation on why there’s a group of elders beside the fact that they’re from her family. Then CFO outright steals from the company with evidence to the fact and the board and elders still want him there. And then the fact that they address her as Ms. CEO. Then she makes rash decisions for her company because she’s mad at Alex. To me their relationship and the company is portrayed as a very immature situation.

Secrets and second chance fated mates

A wonderful slow-build shifter romance, with wolves, witches, drama, action, secrets, betrayals, second chances, love and a HEA.

Katherine is aware of shifters, having helped Alice (The Alpha's Cursed Queen) but after her father dies she becomes the CEO of the family business. Her problem is that her cousin, uncle and family elders are all against her being in charge and make things difficult, trying to match her off to a businessman with plans to take over, so she asks Alex to be a fake boyfriend to help get them off her back.

Alex has been working as the janitor to get into the business and close to Katherine and is pleased to be her fake boyfriend; though his wolf is telling him she's his fated mate. But after she learns he's just using her he leaves.

When her family almost bankrupt her business though Alex returns in his true persona, but Katherine still can't forgive him. Can they repair what they had between them?

At some point I just started skimming.
There was no explanation on who the elders are. Yes, they are family but who are they? Why do they have a say on who she gets to marry?
Katherine seemed very immature at times even her pulling a contract that would have been best for her business because she was upset with Alex. Even why she doesn’t like her birthday
We barely got any Alex POV.
The fight scene was laughable. You are out numbered, so instead of waiting for back up or go in silently, you announce your presence?
Him dying and coming back to life made no sense and why was he the only injured between him, Alice, & Jack?
Frank getting away with fraud and being selected to CEO was so unbelievable
The ending was so rushed. They say humans couldn’t give birth to wolf shifters but it seemed she gave birth just fine, I am assuming they got married? How did the transition go to her moving to the castle.

Meh. This book felt like the author worked super hard to get it out as quickly as possible and it just didn't work. There were wrong/missing words used, we would randomly skip weeks (or maybe even months, I honestly got confused on that) where their relationship apparently developed according to the FMC, but we didn't see any hint of it, and even then it didn't really feel like they had chemistry. The family thing was weird too, why do you have an organized group of "elders" telling you how to live your life and why is there also a board when the elders seem to play that role? None of the story made sense to me, tbh.

But to be honest, I knew I wasn't going to be able to take this book too seriously when one sex scene said "looked down like a puppy above a bowl of milk" about looking at her p***, "like a dog with a bone" about eating her out, and called his p*nis a "pleasure stick" all within half a page. That just took me out of the story completely and it went downhill from there.

The Alpha's Crimson Vow, by Jaymin Snow is action packed and full of twists and mysteries. In chapter one, the reader is presented with the death of Katherine's parents, her taking over as CEO, and conflict among her and the board. Enter Alex, the mysterious janitor who doesn't act like a janitor, and is so kind to Katherine. We are introduced to Alice, the Queen of American Wolf Shifters and Katherine's best friend. Alex and Katherine enter's into a pretend relationship that swiftly turns real and chaos ensues rapidly. I found myself fussing at Katherine and Alex, like they were real, trying to guess what would happen next, and loving enjoying the reading journey.

Bit too wordy and predictable

I really wanted to love this book, after reading the first in the saga, but i found it extremely disappointing. There are pages where you could literally cut out a third of it and just have what the characters are actually saying, and you wouldn't lose any of the storyline.
For me, it was just one of those stories where a whole lot of hassle could have been avoided if the characters just spoke their minds and didn't keep holding back their thoughts. I can take that a couple of times, but it continually happens and made it extremely frustrating with plenty eye roll moments.

Katherine and Alex’s story is a fated mates trope with a hidden prince and murder mystery attached. The characters are well written and the storyline is captivating. The twists keep things interesting. Seeing Queen Alice from book 1 was also fun. The only problem’s I see are some of the Author’s word choices could be better, as well as a couple of sentence structures needing fixing. Nothing interferes with the overall enjoyment of the book. 4✨’s. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

I promise to be a very engaging story. Maybe a little long winded in some areas. I did get frustrated with Katherine. After being attacked and after finding out that her parents crash was not an accident she sends away the guards that Alex left to watch over her talking about she's not a damsel and distress and then gets kidnapped that same night. And I take issue with the lack of communication between the two of them.

DNF @ 73%. I really tried to power through but it wasn’t as good as the first one. Character personalities didn’t match (Alice suddenly starts hiding things from Katherine and not telling her the truth despite her obviously knowing all about shifters), writing mistakes that made it hard to read and the storyline kept jumping without explaining anything (I.e. she’s nearly 4 months pregnant and we only suddenly find out she was feeling nauseous and missed her period after kids come up in conversation with the MMC).

⭐️ 4 | 🌶️ 3.5

This was an enjoyable standalone sequel. I loved the characters; Katherine is a saavy boss babe & I love how Alex falls hard for her & tries to protect her.

I thought the book was a little fast paced. The transitions in scenes were a little abrupt but it didn’t take away from the romance and mystery! I also loved the cameos of Alice, from Book 1!

Meh

I just couldn't get behind any of the characters. Alex refuses to communicate and Alice, who could have and should have spoken up several times, didn't for no reason other than contrived angst, which led me to find it tiresome. Also, it just felt like the author had no idea what a CEO does or how meetings or businesses in general are run so it felt ridiculously absurd as they described an incredibly toxic and dysfunctional work environment.

A wonderful shifter romance

I read this book in two days. It’s so hard for a woman in a corporate world but a Katherine made it. The only thing I would liked for the author to bring Jimmy and Katherine together. I would have liked to see his surprise. Did Jinny know of the werewolf world. It was kind of dropped. Others wise Alex and Katherine’s chemistry was good. Very good book.

Assumptions

This book has a plot that shows why making assumptions can stir you to the wrong conclusion and why open communication is important in a relationship. The plot keeps you engaged in the story. I like how it shares characters from the previous book.

Great story!!

I loved Alex and Katherine together. They were sweet and had this bond you are just comfortable with from the very beginning.
I couldn’t stand her cousin and uncle and the elders of her company. Great to see what happened to them.
This was tamer than the first but still kept me interested.

4.5 ⭐️. I liked the story. Kinda typical shifter but I enjoyed the way it smoothed into Alex and Katherine being mates. You knew there was more to him.
Then there were some weird word plays
Do it raw???

I liked the 1st book better. I liked that Alice was in and out as Katherine’s friend.

Great story

This is another great reign. The next story about Catherine with her company. She meets a janitor thinking he's a janitor but he's not. He's actually the Prince king to be of a European country. He's there trying to he's on the cover. He's trying to prove that his. Uncle has trying to take over the throne

needs minor edits but human wrote it

I like the plot, the different POV than the first book. Does have spelling errors like “to” should be “two” or “she” should be “her” but it’s minor compared to what I have seen out there.

very nice -

I liked that the main characters friend was included in the book - however I wish the author had shown greater depth to the powers that friend had shown in the first part of the trilogy - can’t say more without spoiling alerts and ruining the narrative for others

Excellent read. A complex plot with near impossible situations that Ms. Snow gets them out of. I enjoyed this and the first book. I'm reading the 3rd book, but it's got errors and formatting issues. Good story thus far, though.
