Can you handle six at once? If so, buy the full series! Erika’s spent her entire post-graduate career searching for it. The elusive dragon stronghold her archaeologist professors scoffed at as being only a myth. Now she has the perfect team and has led them into the deepest reaches of the Sumatran jungle. At the edge of the discovery of the century, she’s finally about to prove to everyone how wrong they were.
But when the seven intrepid explorers pass through the doors, they’re barely prepared for the conflict of lust versus logic they’re faced with on the inside. Ages-old magic lingers in the stronghold, dictating that they perform a ritual to awaken the long-slumbering beasts within. And beasts that beautiful only awaken to one the unbridled release of humans in the throes of ecstasy.
Ophelia Bell is the author of the super steamy Sleeping Dragons series. Ophelia loves hot alpha heroes, especially if they’re dragons, but believes the world needs more alpha heroines, so has made it her mission to make that happen. Ophelia grew up on a rural farm in North Carolina and now lives in Los Angeles with her sexy tattooed alpha husband and five-and-a-half attention-whoring cats (one of them is exceptionally large and might actually be a dragon in disguise).
The Sleeping Dragons series is hot, hot, hot. This is definitely not a series for the faint of heart or people with prudish tendencies. Each book focuses on an individual and what part they play in the awakening of the dragon Queen. During their story you get an in depth look at one singular event that has rally impacted that person, which explains their role in the group and why they act as they do. I'm not gonna sugar coat it, this is definitely a sexy-times book, which is well written. I love dragons, and I'm a dragon slut, what can I say other then I enjoyed it.
Seriously though, don't read this book in public, unless your into that sorta thing cause this may be your reaction:
Very steamy, very very steamy. Interesting stories and I get that dragon shifters so the positions and situations of course will be out there, but losing v on stone statue….. ok instead hot I thought poor girl ouch! Yes fine and steamy but it was a little hard to get there. Still good read!
... But what really draws me in is the World Ms Bell has created, and the stories of the characters... What drives them, other than their libidoes, but I am always interested in why people do what they do, like in the final story, why did Corey not give in? What in his backstory made him choose to work against the magic?
It is such a complex and involved World and setup, and Ms Bell has got her talons deep in me.... Even though I was stuck a bit in story number five, Nexus, I couldn't quite wrap my head around it last week because of personal stuff, but that has nothing to do with the book...
Of all the stories I liked the second one, Tabula Rasa, the best, but in truth, I quite liked the whole set, it seemed like a pretty much cohesive story, even though it were six little stories...
It was good fun, and the writing draws me in, the World is very intriguing to me and I want to know more about the lore, and lucky for me, Ms Bell has written more stories in this World so I can just dive in...
I've been watching an anime called Fairy Tail lately so I've got dragons on the brain. I searched 'dragon' and this popped up.
This story is the most smutty thing I've ever read. If that's what you're looking for; you've found it. That isn't to say this story is bad, quite the contrary. The lore within this story is interesting and if you know me, you'll know I love a good lore driven story.
If you blush easily and sex makes you uncomfortable, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK.
If not, buckle in. (I would make a joke about how you're in for a wild 'ride' but I feel that's a bit much😂)
I misread and was under the impression that there was another book in this series, how happy I am to have been wrong and find out there is only 6. Having read all 6 of these books in the series I have to say I am very disappointed and saddened that I even took the time to read them. But then the more that I read the less intrigued I was and the more I found them to be silly. Yes the sex and all of them is very hot and steamy and I'm sure it'll get somebody up and running, but for me even though the sex was hot it pretty much just lost me with the rest of the story. I know that the series is probably really good for some people and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings but you know everyone has different taste and for me this just wasn't a good series.
Ophelia Bell manages to steam up the pages while still providing a story that is fun to follow. Although each of her books in the sleeping dragon series are short, they are sizzling and overall provide a great segue into the rising dragons series.
I appreciate the lengths Ophelia goes to for her fans. I was unable to purchase this series via amazon & she went to great lengths to help me, eventually sending me the books for free! What an amazing author, both in her writing and in her personal support of her fans.
This was the porniest erotica I have ever read. There is no plot. Everyone has sex all the time. Everyone is high. There are erections everywhere. Sex with the statues, sex with the dragons, sex everywhere. All it was missing to be a real porn is some description of a preliminary scene of a chick pouring water or oil all over herself prior to the scenes actually starting. I like erotica sometimes, but I want a story. That's why I'm reading a book. So, if you want a porn in the form of a book, get this. Otherwise, just go get a flick.
Sleeping Dragons Omnibus – Books 1 – 6 – Ophelia Bell I love, love, love this author! She jumps straight into the story so there’s no messing about trying to work out who is who. Ms Bell tells you exactly the nature of each player with her excellent character development from the start. This is a collection of the six books which make up the Sleeping Dragons series. 1) AMINUS – The story of Erika (Team Leader and mega adventurist spirit) and her awakening of the Red Dragon, Geva. She is joined by her casual lover Eben during the first of the rituals to awaken the Brood when they find Geva and Issa (a Lavender dragon female) who was tasked with watching over Geva during their 500-year stasis (MFMF) 2) TABULA RASA – In this segment of the series we meet Camille, the virgin sacrifice, but we don’t see her life sacrificed thank goodness. She chooses a White guardian dragon and is swiftly drawn into a mating of three when Eben decides he truly cannot live without her after ignoring her crush for so many months. (MFM) 3) GEMINI – here we meet Dimitri. A beautiful, bisexual Adonis of a man, and a twin who has recently lost his brother in a tragic car accident and hence the woman they shared. He encounters twin Golden dragons Aurin and Aurik and promptly settles into an amazing threesome with them once he awakens them. (MFM) 4) SHADOWS – possibly my favourite of this series. Here we find Hallie, the only person in the expedition who has faked her credentials in order to tag along and escape a horrible break up with her ex who just happens to have mafia connections. She’s street savvy and goes after what she wants, but she values honesty above all else. Her Dragon is a shadow (Black Dragon) Kol, who’s body is in stasis but whose consciousness has remained awake and alert, guarding the Brood while they hibernated over the centuries. Kol and Hallie quickly form a beautiful and sensual bond the likes of which neither feel inclined to share. (MF) 5) NEXUS – Kris, our guide throughout the expedition is in fact the purebred dragon who will be the conduit that relays all the power from the Court Dragon awakenings to the Queen. It is the Dragon Queen who will then awaken the Brood. Kris must taste all the couplings in order to channel the power they contain to the Dragon Queen and he does this first with Issa who has decided to make a claim on him, even though this is highly irregular. Kris has also formed an attachment to Issa who has watched the awakening rituals with him. They are the first to couple in this fifth book and this is also Kris’ first ever coupling being kept a virgin himself by dragon magic making it impossible for him to reach any climax of his own until this part of the ritual begins. The result of which is beautiful in the telling. (MMMFFF) 6) ASCEND – Corey, tech head of the group and oldest team member. He’s a little bit moralistic due to his catholic upbringing but is soon swept away by the dragon magic in the temple. He finally concedes and mates with the Jade Dragon Queen once he realises that her sacrifice to awaken the Brood will be her life if she remains untouched. (MF) It’s fast paced and a fast burn. The steam factor shoots you to the stars, then the moon, then back to earth with a thud. If you like raunchy this series is for you. Never disappointing. I loved it! Five stars Ms Bell.
This entire thing was a giant clusterf. It read like a "liberal" (closet conservative) old school swinger wrote her self as Indiana Jones going to a modern monsterf sex cult while keeping all the misogyny and racism of OG Indiana Jones films. The concepts of "free love" in the book are more of the old school concepts where jealously, misogyny, consent violation, grooming, and racial fetishizing are acceptable when modern polycules would condemn those very things.
And the crazy thing is it's monster effing so I was already willing to forgive certain amounts of jealously, grooming, and consent questionability for the sake of effing dragons but this was so cringe I wanted to vomit most times.
Book one This is the start off all the dragon series Ophelia Bell writes and even though I’ve read the series backwards I still enjoyed the first awakening of the incredibly horny dragons. If you not into very open sexuality and a lot of sex and male on male actions then definitely wouldn’t be the book for you but if your exploring in RH and other possibilities the Ophelia Bell is a great place to start. Book 2 Wow this book is sooo hot and pretty much made up of a whole lot of sex. So Erika eben and kris enter dragon chamber and realise they need to give them there ‘nirvana’ to wake them up. So as you can imagine a lot of sex and not much dialogue so if this offends you I’d skip it but you’d be missing out. Book 3 So Dimitri has opened the twin dragon room with Aurik and Aurin in it and is suppose to pick one dragon but when time to choose came he picked booth. Very hot sexy scenes and really sad story of Dimitri losing his twin Alex which is in Rising Dragon series as well. Definitely check out after Sleeping Dragons Book 4 Hallie has many secrets especially about the fact she’s not doing a PhD or a student of any kind but running from a distressing past. Kol is the keeper of the temple which means he’s been looking after all the sleeping dragons for five centuries. Kol is a darker dragon and has a upsetting past too so you can tell they hit it off straight away. More story in this one and less sex but great as always Book 5 Ok this was just a massive orgy really. Kris has finally come into play and is no longer a virgin and finally met Issa. Kris has also found out that The Queen is his sister. Finally onto Corey and The Queen Book 6 Corey finally comes into play with him been defiant about dragons and rituals he took some convincing from Kris to meet the Queen Racha. I like that they didn’t just jump straight into sex and have a orgy like the other but Racha gave Corey a choice and got to know each other more. Great series but MUST BE READ FIRST
OMG! I loved it! I am in awe of Ms. Bell's talent and her imagination is off the charts! She is a true wordsmith! This series is a work of art! The story is original, imaginative, powerful and compelling. The dialog is smart, eloquent and simply beautiful. Ms. Bell has given us a large, wonderful cast of characters that are intriguing, engaging and quite simply, out of this world! And the love scenes are exquisite and so dreamy! Sigh.........I have read all seven books of the Rising Dragons Series and all the Sleeping Dragons Series Books as well and I was completely enthralled by each and every one! Each book of this series chronicles the lives of a dragon(or in some cases dragons) and their mates and their struggle to survive and adapt in this modern world in which they have now awakened. Sexy male and female dragons-check! Mystery, suspense and intrigue-check! Romance, sweet love and very steamy sex-check! Oh yeah! Hubba! Hubba! I was completely blown away. So deliciously wicked! Do yourself a solid and read them all!
If you want to read a fantastic story along with lots of hot sweaty couplings with dragon shifters, then this is the book for you. Every five hundred years a new brood of dragon's must be awaken but to do the it takes the nirvana from the humans. Well written and extremely entertaining to read.
Before I begin, lets talk a moment, this review in its entirety is for adults, if you are not an adult, turn back now, this is a mature conversation about spicy books and erotica…
I do not object to spice in my books, I do not have moral objection to it, it is not however what I am seeking in reading. I do not judge those who seek spice or even porn/erotica in their reading, to each their own.
Sleeping Dragons is erotica/porn. It has a beautiful hardcover and stenciled sprayed edges. It has a fantasy premise/concept. But it is erotica more than story. And again I don’t judge if that is what you are looking for.
This book should have come with a vibrator.
Just saying maybe Ophelia Bell should look at collaborating with an adult toy company because that is a marketing plan.
I would normally at this point give a spoiler warning but there really isnt much to spoil as the plot is not that deep.
I will be using the term “mate” in place of the “F” word because I dont know how the internet sites will handle this content so I am erring on the cautious side but understand that I absolutely mean the “F” word
The extent of the story is explaining the cast of characters human “explorers” (including some back story on each) and how/why they are here, and which dragon they are going to “mate” with.
The dragons are in stasis/sleeping in the form of statues. In order to wake them you have to “mate” with them. That is the WHOLE plot…
Some of the explorers are more interested in this process and some are more hesitant/disbelieving or not as interested in casual “mating”, and take a little bit to come around to the idea, but it is all consensual.
The spice starts from the very beginning, and it is pretty much every page whether it is a mentioning or a full “mating” scene..
So here is the other warning.
This book explores every avenue of “mating” (no holes barred) including orgies, male-male, male-female-male, female-female-male, male-male-female, female-male-female, and DP-one hole. There is human-dragon statue, human-dragon shifter, and human-dragon, and sure there was human-human there somewhere… If any of this bothers you, this is not the book for you…
Was the book enjoyable, sure, if you are looking for hot and bothered autoerotic material.
If however you are looking for the story, you wont find much here.
It is what it is, and if that is what you seek, enjoy.
I mean no disrespect to the author, it is a good fantastical erotica.
But I believe the second book is going to sit unread for a while, I have lots of good stories to read on my TBR, and my wrist is sore 😉 jk
They will look gorgeous on my shelf though…have you seen the pictures
Magic, dragons, temples, ritual awakenings, and oodles of sex... the underlying story carries the reader along, and is interesting enough. No great epic tale to be shared generations from now, but light adventure in the pursuit of erotica. Effective writing, that tells the story rather well.
If found the first three novellas to be lightest on story and heaviest on sex, and while they accomplish what the author likely intended there wasn't as much "romance" until we get to "Shadows" and Kor's story... and it's not until we get to Corey and Racha's story that we get the best of it all. I'm curious to see if there's more to come for this generation of dragons, but the endings are good where these six stories stop.
Straight up, this type of story is going to appeal more to some than it will for others. It's not for the young, or those who prefer closed door romance, or those who do not enjoy elements of magic or paranormal fantasy. It's not the most complex or deepest of stories, but I found the larger story interesting and easy to read. Plus they're short novellas and don't take days to get thru...
Book 1 - Animus: ⭐⭐⭐ All the inuendo's and the needlessly breathy narration and the mindless lust (seriously? How is randomly stripping just cuz you need sexual relief PRONTO, make any sense in a civilized society? XD)
Book 2 - Tabula Rasa: ⭐⭐ The novelty wore off. This was no longer funny, just ridiculous.
It seems like each short story follows a member of the research group as they fuck jade statues back to life. Everyone is horny af, and anything goes. Good for them. I have zero interest in experiencing their story first-hand; my curiosity has been sated lol
P.S.: Do people read smut to get themselves off? Here I am casually reading and reviewing these as if they're regular books, but clearly I'm not the target audience 😅 P.P.S: These books getting on my radar through ads on instagram, should be illegal😅. There are kids there 🫢😱. Considering none of my interests (other than interacting with dubious ads) are remotely related to erotica, I can't be the only one getting these...
OMG...these are the horniest group of people ever! Sex from the beginning all through the end, oh with some of the story in between..lol!
Tabula Rasa 2.5 Stars
I'm confused, wasn't Camille supposed to awaken the twins? How did she end up with Roka instead?
Gemini 3 Stars
Hmmm...I guess you could never go wrong with twins!
Shadows 3 Stars
Black dragons are always so broody...I actually enjoy that about them!
Nexus 2.5 Stars
Damn this was like a smorgasbord of sex...nothing but wild, kinky sex..yikes..
Ascend 3 Stars
I guess this series is what started it all? It was a nice change when the male lead isn't only interested in having meaningless sex. Corey was after something real and true, even though he eventually gives in to the crazy sex with Racha, he does so because not doing so would have killed her. Still it was nice that she really was as into him as he deserved because he was actually a nice guy who was burned pretty bad in the past..
I realize that I'm predisposed to dislike erotica on audio because they tend to sound really ridiculous out loud. Even if I like the story in print, I can't handle it being told out loud. Most of the time, it's because the voices aren't done well for all of the characters.
I have to say that I listened to about an hour of this one before I stopped. It made me laugh a lot at the utter ridiculousness of the story as a whole. It's not really a plot so much as a ticket to write a story with dragons and to have sex on life-like statues. =P
If I come across the book at some point, I'm sure I'll read it and grin at the goofball antics of the team and dragons. For audio, no way Jose! I can't do it. That's nothing against the narrator. She was actually pretty good. I don't think anyone could make this story sound good out loud.
Make no mistake, this is an grown-up time book. My eyes are still smoldering and my husband is on life support. LOL The story is, Erika and 5 archeologist and their jungle guide find the ancient temple of the Dragon. Once inside the temple, a strange sexual vibe overtakes everyone. According to ancient script, the only way to awaken the Dragons is to give them your nirvana. Sex, mainly orgasmic energy. Do I need to say more. A very hot and naughty to the triple X. It was originally several novella's, and I guess if I read the separately, it would of stayed hot, but after reading all the exploits, to be honest, I got a little bored.
Started well with a good backstory and reasons behind everything that happens. There is a LOT of sex, which was well written and interesting at first. Then it became a bit monotonous and boring. Both threesomes that happen are supposed to be against the rules and I hate when virgins turn out to be fantastic sexual partners, even though it's their first time! Then everyone began having sex with everyone else and the story took a back seat. I know it's erotica though so maybe this one's just not for me?
Worth reading if you want sex with dragons at the forefront and you're not bothered about the story.
Corey and Eben can fuck all the way off. Eben especially. I couldn’t tolerate a single piece of that. Like you’re pissed your little pretty Virgin slept with someone else because you wanted a woman “who takes the initiative?” Are you fucking dumb????
And Corey please babe. Letting your ex control you this much still is embarrassing.
As for the rest of the book …. I think I could’ve done without the plot lmao. Like I get it yall wanted to fuck a bunch of dragons. Kris’s role I guess is what my brain refuses to accept LOL and that’s fine! Clearly everyone had a good time. Except Corey with his head up his fucking ass
A group of archaeologists find, and open, a temple that has been sealed for ages waiting for just the right group to arrive. Inside are statues of dragons in various states of repose. It is the duty of each member to awaken one of these statues. But, are they up to the task? The dragons have waited 500 years to live again but can they wait one more minute now that their mattress have arrived. One of the better series by Ophelia Bell. You'd better get a cold drink, it's about to get steamy.
Book 3 - Gemini - twin dragon sibs (brother and sister) The narration is driving me nuts. Too many poorly done accents, and character voices that are by turns, creepy, snotty, annoying, etc.
Book 4 - Shadows
Book 5 - Nexus
Book 6 - Ascend Eh. Lots of sex. Dragon mythology that is okay. I couldn’t really get into it. I think partly because of the narrator.
📖 Book Review: Sleeping Dragons by Ophelia Bell 🐉🔥 Get ready for a wild ride with Sleeping Dragons! This steamy paranormal romance pulls you into a world where ancient dragon shifters are awakening and finding their fated mates. Ophelia Bell delivers a mesmerizing mix of high-stakes adventure, sizzling romance, and unforgettable characters. The chemistry between these dragon shifters and their destined partners is explosive, making it a must-read for fans of fantasy romance. 🐲💖
If you want a book full of spice and smutt and dragons, this is the one. Seven people have been Fated to awaken the dragons who have been waiting in a sort of stasis for 500 years.
For something kinda ridiculous and smutty, it was quick to read and lose myself in for a couple of hours. I would have liked to have seen more hesitation from most of the humans involved in the ritual, just to make them more realistic. The dragons are singularly focused, and I'm okay with it.
I'll continue the series just to see if more character development and world building comes.
A group of archaeologists discovers and opens a temple that has been sealed for ages, waiting for just the right team to arrive. Inside, they find statues of dragons in various states of repose. Each member of the team has the duty to awaken one of these statues. However, are they truly up to the task? The dragons have waited 500 years to come back to life, but can they hold off for just one more minute now that their moment has finally arrived?
This is a captivating series by Ophelia Bell. Make sure to grab a cold drink; things are about to get steamy!
