Aledrya lives in the human realm with her foster family. She hates the dark, has an ability to make mystic lights, and is tethered to a Phoenix named Artemis. She finds herself with a dire need to escape and follows a man she does not know into the fae realm. She joins an academy to train to become one of the Ravels, a fierce fae fighting force, but she has a steep learning curve. Aledrya must learn physical combat as well as identify her magic and learn to control it in order to help protect her new home.
"Remember that you make f*cking light in the darkness. You don't need saving"
The steady building of the pacing of this book, the cast of characters, the slow burn... ya'll... I was completely enthralled. ESPECIALLY the back half (It went from 4 starts to 5 stars because of the second half) It consumed my life and my thoughts. There is banter, dark/horror elements, found family vibes... STRONG villains.
"Winning your heart means more than an afterlife in the Above. You are the destination, not a stopping point" **SWOON** I have a new book boyfriend.
I see you Hattie Rose... I see you and I'm shook about you shoving me off a cliff... this wasn't a cliff hanger... this was someone shoving you off and no that parachute you threw me disguised as a fluffy bonus chapter, doesn't help. hahaha. (I need book 2 like I need oxygen)
Bravo on your debut book and thank you for the opportunity to read it to help the world understand they need this in their life.
What have I just read? A Tether of Ember Flame is an amazing book that is like if Forth Wing, ACOTAR and Spark of the Everflame had a baby. But it is still so different. It has all the amazing aspects of those books, but still stands on its own. And it was just so much fun to read! Honestly I cannot wait for book 2. ⠀ So in this AMAZING book we are following Aledrya, a normal girl (or so she thought) up until the moment that she ends up following a strange man into the fae realm. And this new wold feels like home. She will be enrolled in a military Academy that will teach her to master her powers as well as to fight in tandem with her Phoenix (who might be the sassiest character ever). But war is coming, and her new found family is at risk, but things might be even bigger than what she knows and the stakes quite a bit higher than expected. ⠀ What have I like about this book? Absolutely everything. ⠀ Is there anything I have not liked? NO! I have absolutely adored this book. ⠀ Honestly this is such a fun read. And I am pretty sure that this will be one of those super beloved books on Bookstagram. It has all the ingredients to be very well beloved: amazing characters, incredible plot, unbelievable world building, and a romance to die for. ⠀ Honestly I don’t know what you are doing reading this post. Just go and pick the book, but please be advised that you won’t be able to put it down until you have read it all. And then you’ll be left wondering what to do next and most importantly wanting to have book 2 like yesterday.
📚✨ A Tether of Ember Flame by Hattie Rose ⭐️ 4.5/5 | 🌶️ 3/5
I received a copy ahead of the release and the author asked me to tell you what I thought of it.
So let me scream it from the rooftops: I WAS OBSESSED. This book gave me everything I needed while I’m still in mourning over some recent fantasy reads that wrecked me in the best way. If you’re craving something to completely pull you in—this is it.
The MMC and FMC??? Actual soulmates. I loved them individually, but together? Ugh, perfection. Their connection is soft and raw and explosive and so worth the slow burn. (Spice is a 3/5 but that tension?? chef's kiss.)
The world and magic system may start off feeling a little familiar, but Hattie Rose made it entirely her own. There’s something beautifully fresh about the way everything unfolds—it’s layered, emotional, and honestly just so well done.
I devoured it. I need the next book. Like yesterday. This is me being not okay until then.

"Hune leans over and drops his voice to a volume only I can hear. 'I know what you are. You need to get out of here. You know where to go. I can't go to Eon until you leave. Please.'"
Aledrya has spent her life in the human realm never quite feeling at home or understanding her own magic. When she follows a fae male into the fae realm, her entire world gets turned upside down, and everything she's known changes. But not everyone is happy that Aledrya is in the fae realm, and she'll have to fight hard to keep the life she's beginning to love.
What I loved: The phoenixes and world building. The magic system was so unique.
Who should read this: People who love classic NA-style Romantasy.
This book captured my attention at chapter 1 and held it throughout the entire book. The characters are all well written so that you are able to empathize and relate to them all. This is the story of an orphan fae female who has spent her life thinking she was human but yet constantly felt like an outsider in her family, city, and even her own body. Upon learning what she truly is, she begins to blossom and learn her true potential and that she does belong. Love the development of characters and the twist and turns that kept coming right up to the last page. Can’t wait for book 2!!!
Thank you to the author for giving me an early copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
One of my top reads of 2025 so far, and a guaranteed 5 star read!! I'll keep this to the point because this is a book you should go in blind and the story speaks for itself.
This book has a strong start and an even stronger finish, leaving you wanting more! The plot and characters are incredibly well written, and it’s amazing to see the main character grow as the story goes on. There is action, drama, a sprinkle of horror, and humor interwoven beautifully. Definitely anticipating book 2!!!
Finally! A MMC who is reasonable and expresses his emotions! As well as being protective, broody, and mysterious; all the things we love in a MMC. And FINALLY, a FMC who allows herself to cry. Not only is she badass, capable, and sassy; she lets herself cry and go through her emotions. And don’t get me started on the found family! I felt like I was being given a much needed warm hug. I love the unique takes on the fantasy world as well. Aledrya and the team have my heart and soul, I can’t wait for book two!
This is my first time reading a story with phoenixes, which I enjoyed. Loved the FMCs phoenix. Loved the side characters and their fun dynamics. The world building was done well and had nice touches of terminology that felt really immersive. I really enjoyed learning about the world through the FMCs pov and I tend to gravitate towards those stories. Of course we love the MCs relationship and their dynamic, too.
Thank you Desert Ink for the ARC and happy release day to Hattie Rose! 3.5 rounded up for me!
Finally, a fantasy book with something other than dragon fliers! 😅 Pheonix fliers reign supreme in this world, and I am here for all of the sass that the pheonixes provide!
Potential spoilers: SHE wields the shadows in this one, along with fire and other goodies. She isn't instantly super strong but still beats all of her opponents in sparring. I've never loved an overpowered FMC, and although the author tries to balance her out, she still comes off as being too strong too soon.
Overall, I enjoyed this read, and I'm excited to see what becomes of this trilogy.
I had this book advertised to me in a group chat on Instagram, and it seemed interesting it's not every day you read a book about Phoenix riders and that what sold me on it. I loooooovvveeedd this book! The way it started with Aledrya not even knowing what she was or who she is to get swept up into this world of phoenix bonds and wars and a man that is supposed to be forbidden to her. I devoured this book so quickly!
Instantly hooked. This was fast paced and kept giving everything that I love in a story. I also found myself getting scared and needing to put the book down after reading certain parts, so this was obviously a winner of a book 🤭😮💨
Only reason that it wasn’t a total 5 stars was bc I love more buildup and angst between the fmc and mmc, but boy do I love them together 🙂↕️
Thank you Hattie and Desert Ink Editorial for this ARC, I loved it so much 🫶🏻
ARC review. A fun debut Romantasy read! There’s no waiting for the action, Hattie does a beautiful job of jumping straight in and incorporating the world building along the way. A simple set up of human world vs fae, a training academy & a sexy, mysterious MMC. He trains her, found family, touch her & die tropes with a powerful FMC. I’m definitely looking forward to where this trilogy will go!
Got the pleasure of reading this book early and LOVED it!! Has all the things you want in a good romantasy book. Love the characters and the plot. I honestly can’t wait to read it again. Hope book 2 comes out soon!!
Oouuuu I just finished this book and all I can say is holy smokes.😩 For a debut book, this one surely wasn’t lacking in any department. Aledrya grew up always feeling like something was lacking, but could never understand what. She lived with her foster parents and brother in a time where ANY kind of magic use was frowned upon. As dictators come into her town to ruin anyone with a whiff of magic, Aledrya blindly follows a man into the unknown world of magic, phoenix’s, and fae where she gets thrust into a world she could only dream of. This book has 2 possible love interests (I won’t ruin it for you, but later fated mates🥵), found family, and above all, the bond and love of a phoenix. If you love elemental magic, strong world building, and powerful and sassy female main characters (and sassy birds ofc), then this book is for you. 5/5, can’t wait to keep reading the series
It’s hard to give an opinion, it reminds me of Direbound but I liked the romance more here. I wish there was more focus on some of the other things like the side characters because I wasn’t very invested in them. Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this book.
This was one of the most magical books I have read. It was a roller coaster of emotions but in a good way. I loved the FMC and how wonderfully attractive all of the characters were. The world building and the use of mythological creatures was amazing! I absolutely cannot wait for book 2. This is one of my favorite books and is now becoming a favorite author of mine!!!
I was so lucky to have received an ARC copy of this!
This book gave me Quicksilver, meets Fourth Wing, meets The Veiled Kingdom vibes. This author did a wonderful job touching on multiple tropes we all know and love, while also putting an individual spin on them that makes this book stand out in my mind when compared to other fantast novels.
You want fated mates? ✅ You want a possessive MMC?✅ You want a dark broody man?✅ You want "riders"?✅ You want an unreliable narrator?✅ You want a found family? (literally)✅
... this book has ALL of those but tossed at you in a unique way. I finished this book in 24 hours and will not hesitate to snag the next book in the trilogy when it's ready.
